The Best MICHELIN Guide Hotels in Istanbul

"What’s new is old again at Ajwa Sultanahmet. Though it’s a brand new hotel, Ajwa strives to blend effortlessly into this most historic of Istanbul’s neighborhoods. To that end, it steers well clear of the modern boutique minimalism that’s on display elsewhere in town. This is pure Ottoman style, albeit a contemporary vision thereof — alongside the finely wrought woodwork and the meticulous traditional crafts you’ll find all the services and amenities of a contemporary five-star luxury hotel." - MICHELIN Guide

Where to Stay in Istanbul When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"At this five-star hotel I appreciated the traditional Ottoman décor—hand-painted ceilings, hardwood floors, mother-of-pearl furniture, and handmade silk carpets—along with amenities like a luxurious spa with steam room and sauna, an indoor pool, two eateries (one that serves a great breakfast), rooms with heated floors and complimentary minibars, and bathrooms with custom tilework and marble baths." - Matthew Kepnes

I had an amazing stay at Ajwa Hotel! The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, making me feel at home right away. The breakfast was outstanding with plenty of delicious choices, and the spa treatments were absolutely wonderful — so relaxing and rejuvenating. A perfect mix of comfort, hospitality, and luxury. Highly recommend!

Comfortable rooms in a beautiful old restored building. Soundproofing is very good, making it quiet internaly, despite the busy surroundings. Staff is very nice, particularly the Bell Captains and restaurant teams. A few hundred meters away from main attractions, which is positive. Stayed four nights in September 2025.

What a great experience. We arrived early to Istanbul, like 7AM early, obviously way before check-in. Long story short, without even requesting anything, while the super-friendly concierge was arranging our Hamam (Turkish Bath), the accommodating gentlemen at the front desk upgraded our room to a high floor, corner suite, with a spectacular view overlooking the Sea of Marmara. Not only that, but knowing we'd just arrived and hadn't slept after a ten-hour flight, they allowed us early check-in to refresh and relax. Truly first class! The restaurant alone is worth the room rate. Spectacular views of the city in the charming yet lively neighborhood of old Sultanmat. We're happy that after we do a bit of travel in country, we end our trip with three more nights at the AJWA prior to departure. You won't be disappointed!

Stayed in August 2024. Exceptional hotel. I felt privileged to be staying at the Ajwa. We had two connecting rooms that were perfect in every way. The wood furniture is exquisite; there are handmade rugs in every room; the bathrooms made me feel likely royalty with their rich mosaics; beds were very comfortable; rooms were spacious and beautifully appointed. Service was impeccable. Breakfast at the restaurant and dinner are not be missed. The restaurant has beautiful views and delicious food (the morning buffet is a must) and, in the evening, the fabulous dinner made for a very fond memory of Istanbul.

Ajwa Hotel Sultanahmet is a true gem in the heart of Istanbul. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome – always warm, courteous, and eager to help. The rooms are nothing short of opulent – elegantly designed, impeccably clean, and filled with thoughtful touches that reflect traditional craftsmanship and luxury. We also appreciated the hotel’s no alcohol policy, which created a calm, family-friendly atmosphere. The location is unbeatable – just a short walk to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and other key attractions. A perfect blend of comfort, culture, and hospitality. Highly recommended!

Geat hotel with wonderfully decorated, comfortable rooms and lots of nice 5 star touches. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very good position for the sights of the old quarter. Breakfast in the top floor restauran is good. Note the hotel is dry and the spa segregated so men up to 3pm and women only thereafter.

This is a five star hotel in every way. We had a corner suite overlooking the Blue Mosque and the Bosphorus. The location in the Sultanahmet area meant that we could walk to all of the major sights and experiences without the need for any taxis. The hotel staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. I would call out particularly the concierge who couldn’t do enough for us. The hotel is opulence and elegance personified.
