Where To Eat Indian Food In Chicago - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Ajwaah Sweets is a great snack and sweets shop in Rogers Park. It has an assortment of desserts like gulab jamun and halwa, along with a menu full of chaats. They don't have tables, so come here expecting takeout. Still, on a summer day, it’s a great spot to pop in, order a sweet and spicy samosa chaat and some cham cham to-go, and stroll down Devon." - adrian kane, veda kilaru, john ringor, nick allen

Google
The sweets were really yummy . All the snacks and sweets we tasted were amazing

Google
Ajwa Sweets Chicago is a paradise for anyone craving authentic Desi sweets and snacks! Their mithai is always fresh, rich in flavor, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. Beyond sweets, their selection of savory snacks is equally impressive crispy samosas, flavorful chaat, and other traditional treats that remind you of home. The quality and authenticity of their food truly set them apart. I love their burgers (simple yet yummy). They have chicken tandoori pizza also which is very good. The staff is friendly, the shop is clean, and the service is quick. If you’re in Chicago and looking for top-notch South Asian sweets and snacks, Ajwa Sweets is a must-visit!

Google
Food: Overpriced, Little and not much, and mid. Takes so much time to make a bag of fries. Keeps changing all their popular foods Service: Customer service is really bad. They complain about customers. When we want to call on the phone and inquire about something, they talk rudely. They have an attitude. They don't provide whatever is on the menu sometimes and things are not updated. For example, we wanted fries we would call, they would say to us (rudely) that they don't have fries. Atmosphere: Removed the water place. Less seats, if it's full you would have to stand or just walk out with your order. Overall, very rude to people.

Stopped by AJWAAH SWEETS for lunch last week. Grabbed a chicken tikka burger, samosa chaat, and mango lassi. The burger was decent—juicy but nothing to write home about. The chaat was tasty and refreshing, but the samosas were a bit limp. The lassi hit the spot, though. Service was quick, spot’s clean but felt kinda grab‑and‑go—not much seating. We spent around $20 total.

Google
Just tried the Chicken Tikka Burger from Ajwaah Sweets and honestly, it was vvvvvvvvvvvv good! Full of flavor, juicy, and perfectly spiced. Totally loved it! 😍 Also, big shoutout to the staff – their service was super friendly and respectful. Definitely coming back again! 👌🍔

Google
Beautiful family-owned sweet house. They keep their promises and truly deliver. If they say they use asli ghee, I assure you they really do. Everything is made fresh, and you can tell they operate with sincerity, faith, and a fear of Allah. The hygiene is excellent, and the sweets are absolutely delicious. I highly recommend trying their Habshi Halwa a must-have!

We were traveling from Boston to Minneapolis on 29th May, and my wife wanted to buy Indian sweets. As I entered Ajwaah Sweets, two people stood at the counter, ignoring what we were looking for. There weren't many choices of sweets, but I asked if those sweets were freshly made. The guy at the counter was rude and asked, "If you don't like it, you can leave." I won't recommend this store to my friends and family.

Google
I loved the marbled tables so much. But the sweets were below average. I had way better and fresher gulab Jamun. Maybe because I’m not native so I didn’t know what to order. But I was with my friends and we ordered more than seven items. All of them were disappointing.

Yelp
Amazing desserts. I had never tried South Asian pastries before coming here and this place elevated my standards for pastry shops in general. I have had the gulab jamun several times here and every time the quality and flavor is so good, I cannot do it justice with words. They are like donut holes but 100x better. Both the coconut and classic options are available - I like both but am partial to the classic ones, pictured here. There is a 30 minute limit for snacking inside the restaurant, but that's fairly reasonable. The staff are also friendly and quick to get you what you want. Try to go earlier in the day so you get a shot at the more popular pastries - barfi runs out sometimes before mid-afternoon.

Yelp
I stopped in while waiting for my car up the street. Ordered tea and 3 different sweets. It came to $6.50 which seems expensive to me. I was the only one in the entire place.

Yelp
Ajwaah Sweets is a nice sweet shop that has all kinds of desi sweets, snacks, savories, candy and good European pastry selection. They also have warm egg rolls, samosas and puffs. They serve puri halwa on the weekends until around 12 noon. We only tried their ladu's as we just stopped in after dinner but everything displayed was well organized and looked really delicious. The ladoo's were super fresh, made with pure ghee and were the best I've tasted in a very long time! Service was fast and friendly. They had plenty of seating inside too. We'll be back another time to try other items on an empty stomach. I hear their falooda drinks are a drink sensation!
google avatar

Yaseen A.

Yelp
I usually go to Ajwaah Sweets for vegetarian samosas, I think they taste delicious and are a great price! They have many different sweet options and other south Asian desserts.
google avatar

Mohammad K.

Yelp
Quality day by day is bad, I ordered halva pori pori was so overcooked I complained but even did not say sorry, little rude
google avatar

Nazia S.

Yelp
Beef samosas had no meat, it was filled with chopped green onion and what looked like more regular onion, spring roll had some frozen veggies with invisible Chicken.
google avatar

Dan W.

Yelp
The rose falooda is sensational! It has all the trimmings--rose syrup, vanilla ice cream, basil seeds, and vermicelli. Perfect on a summer day in Chicago, and we all know how sweltering and miserable one of those can be.
google avatar

Adityanarayan S.

Yelp
The review only speaks about rose falooda at Ajwaah Sweets. The rose falooda is awesome. Perfectly made with syrup, flavour, ice cream, basil seeds, noodles. Everything in the falooda is the right proportion. The falooda taste true to flavour and is as authentic as it gets. It'd be a 10/10 if they'd add a little bit of dry fruits to it but hey, I'm not complaining! There's not much to say about this place in terms of ambience. You order upfront and they call out your order. About 6-7 tables for seating. Clean marble floor and interiors! If you are looking to eat some falooda to satisfy your craving, look no further!

Yelp
I have been to Ajwaah Sweets before. It's a large location, lots of seating. In the past I've ordered several pastries and mango lassis. I think the service is average. I've never had to wait long for my food. The food is fairly average as well. You won't be disappointed but you won't be wowed either. This shop is located on Devon St. it's in a very busy area. There is street parking but it's generally difficult to park. There are lots of restaurants and places to shop in the area. If you are looking for a place to stop in and grab a cup of coffee or a pastry this is your place on Devon - the prices are reasonable.
google avatar

Umair H.

Yelp
Devon is known for a handful of dessert and sweets spots and Ajwaah is certainly one of the better choices. I tend to drop by after a meal when in the area and grab a rose falooda (ice cream, rose milk, vermicelli) - probably one of the best in the area and the ingredients are high quality. In addition, the traditional and American themed sweets tend to be well made. We have ordered boxes of sweets as well and I commend them for their detail oriented nature as they place dividers and covers for the sweets. Overall, a standard spot for me when in the area and look forward to dropping by in the near future.
google avatar

Humza M.

Yelp
Wonderful little sweet shop with a great falooda. If you're looking to grab a traditional Pakistani pastry, come to this location! The service is very polite, fast, and upfront. As with most stores in this area, be prepared to see a lot of colors in the sweet section. If you've never had Pakistani food before I would recommend 3 items to sample; 1. the vegetable samosa 2. the pink cham cham and 3. the falooda. The vegetable samosa is a ball of spicy potatoes and peas wrapped in dough and deep fried. The cham cham is a milk, flour, and cream mix that is soaked in syrup and sugar and is one of my favorite desserts. Its soft and firm and has a great texture. Lastly, the falooda is a pistachio ice cream mixed into milk and some traditional noodles and indian seeds. I'd definitely recommend checking out this location for sweets and snacks if you're in town or looking to try new cuisine!

Yelp
This is one of those establishments that reminds you why writing reviews is so important especially when it comes to small neighborhood family owned businesses. Even before you all in, Ajwaah sweets had a very well designed exterior with intricate marble pillars combined with a very welcoming sign board. Walking in, I was not welcomed with any odors of oil or Lysol which is usually the norm for fast food & sweets restaurants like these on Devon Ave. The tables were squeaky clean and the sitting area is surrounded on all side by marble wall with Ajwaah sweets enrage one two massive marble slabs on each side. Now as you walk you walk towards the counter area, you are greeted with well food that is presented in a neat fashion with proper computer printed labels. All the counter tops were clean and all the food displayed was properly filled and had an excellent impression of freshness as seen in the pictures I took. I was quickly received and placed my smaller dine in order and alarms Take out order. The chicken Patties I ordered was quickly given to me and most places on Devon bake these in advance and want them up in a microwave. Here, my parties were serves right out of a warmer and they were delicious. Now I am not saying they were the best chicken patties I have ever had but they were far better especially when combined with the cleanliness and serve of this establishment than anything I have had at any other desi restaurant on Devon Ave. Shortly after completing my quick meal my take out order was ready and before heading I out I stepped in to a well maintained restroom. Over all my dine in experience was better than any other fast food restaurant on Devon. What made this entire experience so much better was how well my carry out ordered was packed. In particular everyone enjoyed their Chicken burgers and Beef Samaosa. I will surely be back and would highly recommended this restaurant to any and everyone.

Yelp
Clean, air conditioned, and speedy service. Came here during Ramadan time..so may be why it was less busy than other places. But the sweets were tasty and the both the veggie & beef samosas were tasty...especially the beef.
google avatar

Gurwant K.

Yelp
Awesome service, clean, very reasonable price , we got chat of samosa and papadi for 3.5$. Jalebi and dhoda( mild and almond sweets) were so yummy that we got packed for one of our friends and for us. We were visiting from St. Louis to Chicago and we were so full that we didn't even need dinner after this . They are from Bombay India. The guy at checkout was so pleasant and helpful in suggesting things to eat and describing the sweets in his shop. It made our trip to Chicago a memorable experience. We have added this to our must go place while visiting Chicago next time . My mom was visiting from India and she also loved it .

Yelp
Was really craving a rose falooda so came here.....absolutely delicious and definitely hit the spot! We also got some gulab jamun and samosas, all of which were so good! I will definitely be back, especially for the falooda!

Yelp
Wow, ice cream in milk with pistachios, never had such a thing before but it was fantastic. Very nice design and fun place to stop by. Will check it out again for sure to see what else they got on the menu.
google avatar

Rashid A.

Yelp
Get the tandori chicken pizza with jalapenos- it's spicy, cheesy and delicious. The veg samosas are way better than the beef ones. And it's 100% Zabiha. The owners and staff are some of the nicest people you'll meet and really is what made me give this place 5 star. Great addition to Devon ave.
google avatar

Yelp
What a lovely experience I had at this place, very Clean, good service, excellent food must go there once in your lifetime,HALWA PURI highly recommended.

Yelp
We decided to check Ajwaah Sweets one day when our meat order at Nayaab Mart was taking longer than usual. We like coming here for snacks like samosa chaat or a quick burger. We had the pizza here and I love the topping and the spicy flavor but I'm not a fan of thick crust I prefer thin crust. The sweets here are really nice too, their carrot cake is actually some of the best that I've had. I like that the owner is friendly and really cares about those that he serves and the place is always very very clean. This is a stark contrast to many of the places in Devon, and has even made our Nayaab Mart experience more enjoyable.
google avatar

Mohammad S.

Yelp
Halwa Puri order is a giant and can serve two people. Probably one of the better places to go if you are on Devon for that. Sweets are def underrated compared to other well known establishments on Devon. You can tell they either use better ingredients or just make them fresh. Recently started serving pizza which is also on point.
google avatar

Zeba S.

Yelp
Close to Tahoora sweets, we found this place and decided to check it out. The cashier was nice enough to allow us to taste the sweets before buying them. We got almond barfi and kaju katli both were good.
google avatar

Cyndi D.

Yelp
What a nice little spot for tea and snacks on Devon Ave. The cardamom tea is excellent. I've never had it before, but I loved it. I tried the carrot halwa and the gulab jamun. The gulab jamun was better in my opinion. It is kind of like a doughnut ball soaked in delicious syrup. I've had better carrot halwa at other restaurants in the past, but this one was ok. Next time I'll come back with more friends so we can sample samosas and some other snacks.
google avatar

Rizwan H.

Yelp
Had their Beef Burgers (Spicy), Yummmmy! Minced meet packed with flavor and only $3.50, what a steal! Also had their Samosa Chat, very much to my liking. Would definitely recommend both items. Other times, I default to their Pizza, has a bakery style touch to it with flavorful cheese. If you like spice make sure to ask for Jalapeños to be added to the veggie mix. Both Beef and Chicken/Veggie were a win.
google avatar

Huda S.

Yelp
Our whole family, friends and relative are hooked on to their Halal Chicken burgers and their Beef Pizza. The bread of the pizza is so good. Crunchy from the outside and soft but not soggy from the inside with a great amount of flavor. Would be great if they can have Grub Hub or a delivery option because so many people I know are waiting in line for a delivery option. Their service and food is on point. I will keep coming back.
google avatar

Prajakta Y.

Yelp
Too sweet and not fresh. Falooda is very basic, I took a rose falooda and mine had no rose flavour.
google avatar

Nomie N.

Yelp
This place is great. Super clean, friendly staff and great snacks! The pizza is good, the samosa chat is great and the mithai is also delicious. I've also had samosas from there and they are yummy. If you're on Devon and looking for a place to eat or have some snacks, Ajwaah Sweets wont let you down.
google avatar

Salwa H.

Yelp
Very good food and service Tried Other hyped up places on Devon but was disappointed. This was good for sweets as well as chai and halwa puri. Will definitely order sweets online too. Especially gulab jamun and habshi halwa
google avatar

Saf P.

Yelp
Best sweet and service! Must try the pizza! Best deals! Take my name you'll get discount always! Seriously
google avatar

Doctor Q.

Yelp
Excellent customer service! Great taste! Clean environment! Super affordable! Will never go back to any other sweet shop. Tried halwa poori, gulab jamun, mango qalaqand. All tasted excellent. Chai is good.
google avatar

Ahmed A.

Yelp
By far the most humble, genuine and kind owners. The food is phenomenal as well, they add creative dishes on the menu all the time (paan ice cream). The inside is very clean and the food is cooked fresh daily. Inshallah they continue to grow and maintain what the have built.
google avatar

Nidhi P.

Yelp
Decent place to get some traditional dessert! Customer service is great. I would highly recommend this place :)
google avatar

Ahsen W.

Yelp
The best sweet store on Devon and it isn't even close, they use fresh ingredients, taste is impeccable, the chai is to die for and the appetizers are just amazing.

Christopher P.

Yelp
No dine in available at this time during covid but quick service for carry out. Great stop for sweets and samosas.
google avatar

Sundar S.

Yelp
By bar the best sweets on Devon. I'm from Toronto and usually nothing compares here in Chicago. This place definitely can compete over there. Give this place a try when looking for good, authentic mittai.
google avatar

Lauren F.

Yelp
Very kind and helpful service. I'm pretty unfamiliar with Indian desserts. The gentleman behind the counter patiently helped me pick the Almond Barfee. It was so rich and flavorful, milky with hints of cardamom. The chai and vegetable samosa were both delicious. Inexpensive, too!

Taha M.

Yelp
If you like Indian/Paki sweets and snacks. This is the place to go. Every time I go there they have fresh snacks n sweets. Unlike other places I WONT NAME NAMES ;)... Just tried there Chilli Chicken PIZZA.. AMAZING!! FRESH and TASTY! Dont write many reviews but when I LOVE something Have TOO.
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
Walked in here for the grand opening not sure what to expect. This is some kind of Pakistani pastry place. I got some sugary cake things and some crunchy fried chow mien noodles. It was interesting but I don't think I would come back for anything.
google avatar

Javeria K.

Yelp
Oh my! Amazing burger and chicken tikka pizza. The food is fresh, affordable, quickly made and absolutely delicious. Chicken burger is a must try! Chicken tikka pizza, extremely flavorful and surpasses Italian express . Will definitely come back
google avatar

Adeel S.

Yelp
Best place to eat refreshments and lovely chiken puffs. Great owner and associates. Halwa puri.... no words. Best halwa puri in town. Must try on Saturday and sunday. I love to go there because this place is very clean and great environment.
google avatar

Eddie B.

Yelp
Amazin place for sweets... Even the guy behind the counter was very friendly, which seem to be rare in devon shops.
google avatar

Taha K.

Yelp
I have tried their burgers, pizza, lassi and falooda and I'm yet to be disappointed. The burgers remind you of the burgers from back home. The burger is simple and inexpensive. Their pizza is also pretty good. It's simple, has the right amount of toppings, the chicken is very well flavored and is a true treat for your taste buds. They also have flavored lassis, strawberry being my favorite. It has the right amount of sweet, it's not overly strawberry flavored nor bland, just what I like. I would try more things from them in the future!

Mohamed A.

Yelp
ASWK A perfect place to have sweets, Food, Pizza, burgers and gift items. pricing very competitive compare to Tahoora and quality top. I order this on weekly basis and ship to people in California. For large orders gets special pricing and discounts Pizza very good compare to Italian Express. Love it Bun kabab you have to try it Famous Gujarati Chat. you will love it and will come back Allhamdullilah very nice people to work compare to other stores M.

Janet M.

Yelp
Great service!! Everything clean witch is hard to find on Devon Food is good I wish they had more items.
google avatar

Pri D.

Yelp
Visited Devon St. During my vacay in Chicago. I only got couple of indian sweets from them but I have to say they were the best store bought sweets hands down! And, this is coming from someone who has a sweet tooth. If only they were located here in Seattle *sigh*
google avatar

Daniyal M.

Yelp
Best sweets in Chicago hands down. Amazing service and food of high quality. Definitely recommend this place when you're in Chicago!
google avatar

Muhammed F.

Yelp
Great service, tried the samosa chat which was decent, Ras malai was good, the liquid had a hint of almond which was interesting.

Sammie S.

Yelp
I started going here after my sister told me about the place. It's amazing! Their indian/pakistani sweets are not too sweet but perfect to my taste. I love love love their cakes because they don't taste stale like the ones at tahoora. The samosas I think are the best on devon. The beef samosas taste A LOT like tahoora's except that they have more beef in them, tahoora's has more onion. I've taken my entire family here and they absolutely love it! They customer service is also amazing! I wasn't sure if I would like certain sweets or the samosas so they allowed me to sample them. Everything I tasted there has been great! I come very often with my family so they recognize us now lol It's never crazy crowded and everything taste fresh and not stale. I think tahoora just lost a customer.

Ray H.

Yelp
Our neighbor dropped of a delicious box of assorted sweats for the Holidays. We had never tasted sweets of this type....and I must say they were above FANTASTIC....will make this a stop for sure when in the Windy. Just fantastic goodies, fresh, well made...a great find!!

ryan k.

Yelp
The service is beyond excellent. I had never tried any of the sweets before, but the man behind the counter was very helpful. He was excited to take the time to explain the details of each item and ensure that I was taken care of. If you're in the neighborhood, you should definitely stop by this place.
