Fast-Casual Anita’s Kitchen Spinoff AK Takeaway Opens Monday in Detroit | Eater Detroit

"This fast-casual, counter-service spot in downtown Detroit at 150 W. Jefferson is geared toward carryout customers but also offers seating for about 20 indoors and roughly 20 on the patio, with an interior designed by D Met Studio. The lunch menu brings many popular carryout items from its Ferndale Lebanese predecessor, featuring chicken shawarma, a chicken feta fattoush salad, and quinoa tabbouleh; many offerings are vegetarian, vegan, halal, antibiotic-free, or gluten-free. The restaurant introduces seven different grain bowls — including a falafel bowl with tabbouleh, hummus, and mujadra (a mixture of lentils, groats, rice, and onions) — and also serves soups and sides such as kafta meatballs and wings; most meals are priced between $6 and $13. It opens for weekday lunch (11 a.m.–7 p.m., Monday–Friday) and plans to add breakfast service shortly after launch (planned 7 a.m.–10:30 a.m. weekdays)." - Brenna Houck

Honestly, I ate a lot from there. The taste is amazing, the portions are great, and the price is good. This food truck makes food tastier than restaurants, and I definitely recommend everyone try their delicious food without hesitation.

We had a great experience with AK Mix Grill! After an hour-long drive back home, we dug into the food and were thoroughly impressed. We ordered two large mix plates and two large chicken plates, and the portions were generous, especially since we opted for the large plates. Everything was packed neatly in aluminum foil round plates, keeping it fresh and warm. The food was well-cooked, flavorful, and satisfying. The red sauce had just the right level of heat—not too overpowering—and the white sauce had a delightful tangy kick. Even though we were the only ones there, the service was quick, and we got our food in no time. Overall, AK Mix Grill delivered on taste, quality, and portion size. If you haven’t tried it yet, I’d highly recommend giving it a shot!

First off this is a food truck that was parked at a gas station so I didn’t have high hopes! But I’m glad they proved me wrong! The chicken gyro and the chicken over rice were very delicious! Husband got the lamb over rice and he was content with his dinner! My brother ordered the Philly, he said it wasn’t anything special(he didn’t like how empty it looked) and he wouldn’t get it again! Overall it was a good experience, and I would definitely go back!

Was excited to check this place out due to the really good reviews. The food wasn’t bad, but wasn’t anything memorable—I’ve been to a decent amount of halal food trucks/restaurants and this place wouldn’t rank in my top 5. I ordered the chicken plate and it was decent but had way too much sauce on it—felt more like a soup. Tasted fine but wasn’t great. It’s a food truck located at a gas station. Servers were nice and prepared our food quickly. Cost was reasonable for the quantity of food. Not a bad place by any means but not the best halal food I’ve had.

Google
sooo good! i don’t usually like chicken but theirs is the exception. it’s so juicy and tender and not fatty at all! the sauce is so yummy too, ask for extra sauce. i also don’t like lettuce but i took a chance and it was super yummy and i liked the lettuce because it was fresh and crunchy 🤍 5/5! i wish it were closer to campus 🥺

All the food is halal. Top notch service. A food truck with reasonable prices and healthy portions are served. Each time, the food consistently tastes amazing. The chicken over rice for the win. They have items from lamb to patties. Check them out.

Google
We ordered 2 small chicken over rice and the portions were perfect. The food and sauces were delicious and well seasoned, I have no complaints! I’m not from the area but I would definitely eat here regularly if I was. It’s better than some of the NY halal I’ve tried, definitely recommend!

Yelp
Oh wow!!! Didn't know what to expect from this place but listen to me, this is a gem hidden in plain site. I lived in the area for the majority of my life and always road past this place and never tried it. I ordered the lamb gyro and mix platter over rice!!! Both meats were flavorful and tender. In my opinion, if it came with the option to add some fresh or pickled red onion to put on both of my items and some type of spiciness, it would have taken these items to the next level. Outside of that I was well pleased, impressed and satisfied!!!

Yelp
I found this place on uber eats and thought it was a ghost kitchen or something until I googled it and saw it was a halal food truck with amazing reviews. There is no better meal to me than a good halal chicken and lamb over rice plate so I knew I had to try it and I am SO happy I did. If you like city style halal carts (New York, Charlotte, etc.) you will love this place. The portion is huge. I got a large, but it would've filled up 2 people. The meat was extremely seasoned and there was a very generous portion of everything. The plate itself was just great to me and I can't wait to actually drive up to the truck and get a plate one day. I saw they have cheesesteaks, chopped cheeses, and gyros and I don't doubt it'll be just as good so I will definitely be trying everything.

Yelp
Very delicious food was not expecting that from a food truck. The vibrant colors of the dishes caught my eye as I approached the window, each plate looking more enticing than the last. I decided to try the signature dish, a fusion of flavors that danced on my palate with every bite. As I savored the meal, I realized that sometimes the best culinary delights can be found in the most unexpected places.

Yelp
Nice little treat after Sunday church. Has that NY street meat flavor, got the small of the lamb bowl with spicy rice and was more than enough to keep me full for most of the day. Portions and flavor will leave you pleased.

Yelp
$17.15 for a chicken rice bowl that has no flavor! this by far is the worst halal food i've tried

Yelp
Best food truck in Raleigh! This has become my go to place to eat when I am in the area. We ordered a large chicken over rice, and 10 pieces of wings with fries. It was delicious! The guys making the food are super friendly. Awesome place and unbeatable prices.
