AKA Central Park

While this hotel boasts a great location and charming decoration, the experience left much to be desired. The staff, though technically correct, were detached, lacking the warmth you’d expect from a hospitality-focused establishment. Breakfast was a letdown, with a meager display that was rarely replenished—croissants and bagels vanished quickly, and the only cheese on offer came without any accompanying vegetables. The atmosphere was further dampened by loud, unpleasant music from the kitchen, audible in the dining area. Adding to the frustration, one of the two elevators, shared by guests and staff, broke down and remained out of service for more than five days (not fixed by the time we left), leading to unbearable wait times. When we asked the manager for a tool to help with our luggage, our request was flatly refused, further highlighting the poor customer service. To make matters worse, the door to our room was comically short, leaving a gap of 3–4cm (approximately 1–1.5 inches) between the floor and the door. This resulted in us hearing everything happening in the hallway. The saving grace of this hotel was the housekeeping team, who were the kindest and most helpful people on-site. Unfortunately, their efforts couldn’t compensate for the shortcomings elsewhere. The manager would benefit from revisiting basic hospitality principles. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

By New York standards our room was huuuge! We had a king size bed, kitchenette, dining table and chairs, walk-in wardrobe and a big bathroom with bathtub/shower combination. The hotel also has washers and driers available for use free of charge and they even provide the washing powder free too.|Location wise we were exactly where we wanted to be .....very close to Central Park without having to pay the ridiculous prices of the hotels literally just across the road from us. We have stayed once at The Plaza and several times at The Park Lane overlooking Central Park so we've been lucky enough to have the spectacular views but the prices have gone up so dramatically we decided it wasn't worth paying that price and opted instead for the AKA which is literally half a dozen steps across the road from the back entrances of both The Park Lane and The Plaza.|There are subway stations nearby making travelling around very easy and, if you want to make your own meals in the room there is a Wholefoods at Columbus Circle just a few minutes walk away.|When we return to New York we will be staying again at the AKA. The decor isn't as lavish and there is no spectacular view but at a much more reasonable price you get the same great location, an enormous room and more useful facilities than we had in either of the other hotels we have stayed in.

We have very spacious suit with kitchen. Bathroom could be bigger Reasonably priced . Excellent location . Staff is very friendly . It is not first time when I stay here .

The location is excellent, just a few meters from Central Park, the Apple store on 5th Avenue and all the shops in the area. The facilities are good, but the kitchen utensils and cabinets need to be updated immediately, as they are worn out and have unacceptable defects for a hotel of the quality of the Aka. The room was reasonably clean. The kitchen was very greasy and had apparently not been cleaned properly. I was charged incorrectly at check-in and had some difficulty explaining the mistake to the manager. After a tiring explanation and sending an email with the previously agreed reservation, he finally understood and said he would reimburse me promptly. The reception staff are cold and inattentive, and even when I or my children greeted them, they did not respond, apparently more concerned with handling their cell phones.

Good location. Ac stopped working multiple times. Bathroom wouldn't drain. Nightstands don't have light switches!!!! Light blaring through our window from a vanity light pointing up at the window. Aagghhhh. Location though. Complimentary umbrellas were nice on rainy days.

Don't really understand a few negative reviews. Our stay was excellent, and the room was spacious and clean. The room we selected had a balcony, kitchenette, and soaking bath. Since this is a 5 day stay the room services are offered mid stay which was fine. They have also partnered with a parking garage which is right next door, extremely convenient. The location is great; safe, next to 5th Ave shops, Central Park, and plenty of restaurants and great staff. We definitely enjoyed our stay...

I love staying at the AKA Central Park. We discovered it as a last-minute booking two years ago and have since become members. The staff is outstanding. They do their very best to make you feel at home and welcome. Each unit we stayed in had immense natural light, and the beds were extremely comfortable. When we travel for work, it's always difficult to settle in. At the AKA, it was easy. |We look forward to our next stay.

Stayed over a week at AKA central park. We had to be split between two rooms. Rooms were good - Carlos the night manager was super nice. Location was perfect for us. However, the issue with the 2nd room was lack of hot water. We complained every day for several days and switched to showering in the afternoon. The last morning we showered it was cold and they acknowledged the problem but refused to do anything about it. Paid almost 5 grand and they wouldn't even offer anything off the bill. Do not recommend staying here unless you enjoy cold or luke warm showers.

Nice corporate apartments in midtown. Units are spacious, clean, and well appointed. Staff are nice, mattress and linens are nice, and the location is great. Wifi is pretty slow. And I'm not talking about streaming Netflix just reading and browsing. And the air conditioners are pretty loud and clunky. But it's still a nice place.

The first night I checked in no water was available, the water came back and went back out. I did not stay the night. The second day I came back and there was a terrible smell in the room I noticed it the first night but didn't stay long. The water, although it had been run, resumed a brief discoloration on that day. The front desk said they were working on it. It only gets worse from there.

I don't understand how a propert sitting on a billion dollars of real estate does not have a dental kit readily available

I stayed with my boyfriend here for a week on a staycation despite living in New York. On the plus side, the staff is super friendly. Everyone is polite and helpful. When we wanted to extend our stay an extra day, they did so without question. And they have a pretty cool bar. On the minus side, you get a lot less for what you pay for than at other hotels, even other AKA hotels. Still, the location is great and the staff is friendly.

Kind of hard to judge this place considering they are really only offering pastries, coffees, and drinks at the moment. The coffee was good and the pastries were OK. I would spend your money elsewhere until they have a full menu again.

Worst customer service ever. Called five days in a row to get more information or rooms or even a tour of available rooms and never received any follow up. Clearly they're not interested in helping potential customers. Avoid at all costs unless you like being ignored and brushed off.

We had such a great time here. Fantastic location. Huge rooms which are a necessity when you have a toddler and are staying in the city for a week. Great customer service and lobby staff. Walking distance from the Plaza Hotel (easy place to eat), Central Park (you have to get your morning walks in) and the new NOrdstrom (a must shop) and a ton of other stuff. La guardia is a lot closer than JFK if picking an airport based off location. And a subway stop away from everything. I would definitely stay here again.

Attn President LARRY KORMAN: This is an official message for the President of AKA Serviced Residencies, LARRY KORMAN. First of all let me say with great regret that this is the ABSOLUTE WORSE hotel in NYC. Please advise for a CLASS ACTION suit of similar cases of discrimination and harassment as mine to AKA Corporate if my issue is not resolved immediately. At the height of covid-19 during March, when there were 1000 deaths everyday in NYC, management treated us like unpaid CRIMINALS and absolute garbage. Never in my life was my family treated with such disgrace and animosity, particularly racial discrimination and class prejudice. There are many instances of unfair treatment but I will give just a few examples to save the rest for a potential lawsuit. With severe toilet paper shortages at the height of the pandemic, we decided to take TWO toilet papers with us upon checkout (instead of throwing it). We had nowhere to go as all hotels just closed due to covid-19 except for AKA since they are considered an "extended stay". But instead of letting us leave in peace, we were vehemently accused of theft. We were told by the sales manager Marco, "You are not welcome here and give us back our toilet paper." And the most despicable part of this was that it was only TWO rolls of toilet paper. Keep in mind: we paid over $392 per night plus hotel taxes and fees. Initially it was $320 per night, and then when we requested to extend for one week, we were ambushed by management saying that the price went up to $392 per night last minute and without any prior notice. Instead of $3600 (still extremely high for such a dirty, dark and bleak hotel full of covid-19 disease), it was $4500 for a seven night stay. Management should have thanked us everyday for filling their filthy, dusty hotel when they had to close all their other NY locations and transfer them into their building to continue running their terrible operations. Instead, management tried everything they could to KICK US OUT at all costs for no justifiable reason. It is a blatant action of prejudice and discrimination. We were told at 10 AM this new price increase. Upon our unnoticed and increased price extension, we were then told that we have ONE HOUR until 11 AM to pay this entire amount, or they will call the authorities for our immediately removal. Keep in mind that NO other hotels were open during the height of covid, except this one because it is considered an extended stay. They then said that if we have nowhere to stay, perhaps we can go to the local precinct and I quote from the pretentious security guard: "At least you will get free meals there." Excuse me, we just paid $4500 for a week stay; I'm sure that's more than his paycheck. We were treated like CRIMINALS. I am absolutely disgusted and appalled just writing this report. Despite the utter worse experience of my life in this covid-infested, dirty carpet midtown hotel, I am only asking one simple request for the major inconvenience. I would like a warranted refund of $166.06 for a false and unwarranted "pet fee" charge for my service animal. Without notice when billing, the female manager Cesarina, who I just learned no longer works here, KNOWINGLY charged for having my service animal. When I clarified that this is a service animal, and if I showed her the paperwork that she could kindly drop the charge, the manager responded sarcastically and emphatically, "Even if you show me the paperwork, I will still not waive the pet/miscellaneous fee." Not only is this illegal according to federal law of the ADA, but she had the audacity to then threaten and say that if the full balance with the unwarranted pet fee is not paid, then we have no rights to stay within 15 minutes. She then threatened us again with the legal authorities. Also, I want to make it clear: we paid for our stay the entire time and none of this illicit behavior was warranted by management. President Korman has stated in a CSQ article: "It's important to continue prioritizing frequent and consistent communication with my team and residents to ensure everyone can feel a sense of comfort, order and confidence in their surroundings." If this is remotely true, kindly contact me immediately. And refund what is simply owed for an unwarranted $166.05 charge for my service animal. Now that I know Cesarina no longer works for your hotel, I hope this indicates your responsibility and why this situation should be easily rectified. Or else, please advise for a class action suit for discrimination and harassment as I'm sure this is not the first time, judging by some poor reviews regarding management. Again, I do not want the management team to deal with this because they are the main culprit. It starts with the top and I want President Korman to contact me and refund me immediately. This is an extremely well located property a short walk from Central Park, Columbus Circle, numerous subway lines, the Plaza Hotel, Fifth Avenue shopping, lots of dining from fine to casual. It is a great property for families, with several multi room suites that include a well equipped kitchen with stove, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher; and living rooms with a dining area and a couch. There is a laundry room on the second floor that is equipped with modern washers and dryers for guest rood, an amazing media room/theater to watch movies with your family, a conference room and business center facilities, and a gym. The staff is friendly, warm, kid-friendly and helpful, making it an awesome place to spend a few days in the city, a longer term stay, or a stay with family,

The hotel room is comfy . Location is great . However if you can deal with their poor management service such as you may find so much dirty hair in the bed from someone who just check out. Oops ! The house keeping forgot change the sheets! That's what the hotel management will explain to you without apologize . And if you want to have your white shirt to get dry cleaned ? Please expected a gray shirt comes back. And the management will tell you , they have followed the instruction to do your dry clean , color change is not damaged. Also , don't ever try to find the manager , they just don't return your calls . Guess they are just too busy to take complains . Other than that , the hotel is ok.

Had a great experience at AKA. We stayed in both a studio and in a one bedroom. I would recommend the one bedroom if you have someone that takes a midday nap. They were accommodating enough to let us change after a night in the studio. The one bedroom is worth the extra cost. It has a second TV and the seating area has ample furniture for guests. It's kitchen has a full fridge instead of a mini, and also a stove and dishwasher. It's bathroom is also slightly larger. The gym is an open space with machines I haven't used before. Instead of the normal bars, it utilizes straps and a more mobile attachment point. The location is ideal as well. A short walk away from Central Park. Great hotel. Will stay here again.

be prepared to be disappointed. the room is about the same as a very basic hotel room. with a very small kitchenette. notwithstanding the description on line the room had one chair. very uncomfortable and disappointing.

Last week I nannied for one of the co-executive producers of Law and Order: SVU. SHE and I are pretty close friends, and her 2-year-old son is amazingly adorable. While shooting for the show last week, they stayed at the AKA and I had the luxury of watching the 2-year-old while she and her husband schmoozed at some evening gala fundraiser that Mariska Hargitay organized. Newsflash: Watching a 2-year-old in a hotel room in the middle of Manhattan sucks balls. Particularly when the 2-year-old has a lot of energy and just wants to either a) play/throw cars and trains, b) play/throw his dinner all over the place and c) doesn't have the self-control to sit and watch tv/movie to put him to sleep. Despite these babysitting brawls, the hotel room or shall I say apartment, was SPECTACULAR. Great view of the city. Comfortable furniture. Chic interior design. Stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher! Comfortable bed. Free WI-FI in each individual apartment. According to mom and dad though, the hotel fails in the service department. No full service bar or restaurant. But you can order using menupages or their menu section on the hotel's main page. I indulged in some Chinese food. Quick and easy. If I had the mula to stay in apartment hotels like this...man, that would be the life. One day, Monica, one day.

It's sad that things went downhill after my stay there b/c I truly did enjoy my time there. Let me explain... Initially, I reserved my room for 29 nights. They gave me an estimate based on a rate per night. During my last week there, I received an email asking if I was going to be checking out on my final day or if I would like to extend. I decided to extend for one night, and asked if the same nightly rate would apply. (Very Important Part) I was told yes, it would be the same. I agreed. Upon checking out, I found that I was charged for 2 additional nights rather than 1. When I called to fix this, I was told that when you stay for 30 nights, you are charged for each day that you are there. So by checking in on the 1st and out on the 31st I was charged for 31 days, not 30 nights. I argued that this different rate was never explained to me in advance, and if it was I would not have extended b/c why would someone pay double for one night. They were extremely unhelpful and rude. I was provided incorrect information by the woman who said I would be granted the same rate if I extended for one night and aka never apologized for this. I would strongly recommend not staying here. There are too many other nice hotels in New York where you wouldn't have to deal with such awful customer service.

Review of a. cafe (within AKA hotel) A good coffee in Midtown is an exciting discovery. But a good coffee in Midtown near my dentist is cause for minor celebration. Because after 45 minutes of concentrated abuse at the hands of sharp metal implements, nothing cheers me and my sulky mouth up like a nice cortado, which the good people at a. cafe are able to provide. The cafe belongs to the AKA Hotel, a swish establishment with a penchant for minimalist design. The cafe looks a bit like a designer space station -- all angles, chrome and white light -- and has fancy touches like white linen napkins and sugar cubes with little silver tongs that remind you you're in an upmarket hotel. But nothing drives it home more than the service, of the quality usually reserved for restaurants and places where you're likely to tip more than a dollar. One could really get used to this on one's coffee hunting expeditions. But to the crux of the matter: the coffee. Although they've repackaged it to better suit their futuristic decor, inside the bags you'll find Counter Culture roasted beans. It's a darkly roasted blend and they make it strong, but well. Both visits have produced very drinkable cortados that I managed to enjoy despite a partially numb mouth, although the strength is such that I would consider getting a cappuccino next time. So grateful to have found gem. The staff could not have been more accommodating and wonderful. The suite was lovely and very spacious! Kitchen had everything necessary! I highly recommend and can't wait to go back.

This hotel used to be the Wyndham. It has been totally remodeled to be short stay apartments. So far, this review is just a stub. I have a lot to write. We stayed here for 10 days in August. Great Location. Huge apartment, well furnished. Kind of expensive (10 days just over $4500.00) But the apartment easily slept a family of 3. And there was a full kitchen with stainless steel Whirlpool Appliances, A 24 hour free laundry room (only 1 working washer), a small gym, a 24 hour business center - also free in room wi-fi (when it works) Ok, there it is, bare bones - I'll write more later.

First time with AKA and will be back. It's a great place and the attention to detail is really nice (like a Breville hot water thing and toaster). Voss water in the room when you arrive is a nice touch. But I wish they'd replace the water as you use it. The only downside was construction out our window - on Monday morning that was a noisy surprise (hello, jackhammer). Fortunately we were not there most of the day but would have been nice to know that was going to happen. Staff is friendly, and helpful. If you enjoy having windows that look out at something be sure to inquire before you book, or when you arrive or you might have a view of the alley and an army of a/c units. If we'd been there longer, that would be an issue but for a couple of nights, no big deal. It's a convenient location, about a mile from Grand Central and so close to the park, easy walking everywhere. Thanks, AKA. We will be back.

The lounge is awesome! They have a fireplace that is perfect for a glass of red wine and good conversation during fall and winter. Marco is amazing and their homemade sangria is dangerously delicious. The lounge is no longer just for guests so definitely recommend going!

Great atmosphere and service. Order drinks from Marco and try their very own vodka, A Vod. INCREDIBLE.

I don't normally rate hotels on Yelp but felt moved to do so after six nights at AKA Central Park. I give this hotel five starts and two thumbs way up. The Staff is friendly, courteous, and accommodating (special shout out to Franklin and Romelle!) and my one bedroom suite was clean, nicely decorated, and had very current finishes in the kitchen and bathroom. The mattress was a dream and they use good quality linens. Even the bath products were good. I've stayed in NYC before at several Marriotts and several stays at the Waldorf Astoria and the room I had at AKA was WAY more spacious. Downstairs is a little cafe for breakfast or lunch and free coffee (until 10 am) for hotel guests. Access in and out from room to street took about a minute, whereas in the larger hotels it's a ten minute journey. And the location can't be beat, it's just the best. Being one block off Central Park is perfect for walking in Central Park or to attractions nearby including the American Folk Art Museum, The Met, The Guggenheim, or the Frick. Also within walking distance is Magnolia Bakery, Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Opera, Tavern on the Green, Strawberry Fields, Rockefeller Center, Carnegie Hall, Broadway shows, and the Russian Tea Room. High end shopping is two buildings away at Bergdorf Goodman and Cartier, but if you're shopping there, you'll probably be staying at the Plaza Hotel, which is across the street from AKA. The subway stops going downtown are both a block away. Eat at Loi, a wonderful Greek restaurant a couple blocks west, you might get lucky and see Tony Bennett there like we did. I can't say enough good things about this hotel; I will definitely be back.

Like others we come to NYC at the end of summer each year so we understand what to look for and avoid. We have done a few extended stays so not knew to the concept, but they take it to a whole new level. In the past we stay at more upscale boutique hotels, Kimpton Park Ave and Affinia and the W's We thought the area for there price was great and got very excited about the possibilities ... Here is where the misses start happening and get worse as our stay/vacation which ended yesterday (9 days) We arrived very late, 12 midnight, NO doorman..Hotel has no lighted signage? Doorman in New York can be very helpful at the end of a long day, added protection for my Wife and friends on late night etc. (this is still NYC) The room we booked was a premiere studio, room size was big and roomy, nice kitchen and bathroom lots of area, view was typical building view but ok. When we explained the room would not work for us the clerk called the night manager and was a bit abutted nothing could be rectified other then a $450 upgrade? Never heard again from management till we got feed up on all the issues on day 8 we had enough. So I talked to one of the managers on all the issues and we still never had house keeping. Here is where we become frustrated...we paid $1000+ more for this hotel then Kimpton Park Ave and got much less. No room service even though they have a small cafe on property, which only is open till 5? no ice machines, you have to call to have trashed pick up, fresh towels, etc. They dont even supply coffee but you do have a coffee maker? To some this may not be a big deal but when your paying $3000 you want to not have to do these things, you want to some what be taken care of. From other hotels you can get daily housekeeping, turn down services, free happy and or social hours, daily re stocking of amenities, fresh sheets, etc. The plus to the hotel was the area was close to Central Park, like all of NYC lots of markets, and we did like others and stocked up at Whole Foods. Simple 10 min walk to Broadway, Bryant Park, Radio City (5min) 5th Ave 2 min walk, Subways all around. Doorman very nice and help full but only till 11p, area is good, safe and lots of foot traffic all hours of day and night. Thought it was a very strange policy if you check out early your charged like and ETF? Being in the entertainment business the lounge is the most interesting thing of the whole place. In 9 days we never saw anyone in there staff included which is sad because it would be a nice place to sit and reflect on your day, grab a drink and bar food and make you want to enjoy the hotel vs rushing in and out. A major revenue stream but the management obviously is missing that connection. Would we stay again, we would not as much as the room was so very nice set up all the others misses to the staff and amenities we can get for much more and pay much less and feel we got our moneys worth. The biggest slap in the face is Management ignored our concerns via email... Save your money and look at Kimpton 70 Park and or Affina 50 Hotel

So lucky we stumbled across this amazing gem! Just stayed here with my young family. The staff where we'll informed and really friendly. The location is incredible and the rooms are lovely and the kitchen had everything you would need. The smart TVs had Hulu, Prime, Netflix and all the rest so we just logged in and we had everything we needed. They did a small shop for us which was amazing as our flight was delayed. Massive thanks to everyone at AKA central park, we will see you again soon!

It's rooms are spacious, the service is unobtrusive and seems friendly, and it's nice to have a coffeemaker. But I've stayed here twice now and both times the wifi service here has been bad. It cuts out randomly. Very frustrating. They're all very nice about it and talk about fixing the problem but no solutions have happened over the month of my two visits. Use the ethernet cord they provide (which makes me think they know something's wrong with it and that's their fix), or resign yourself to intermittent internet.

the A cafe was a poor choice for breakfast. Service was painful, gave half our meals to the table beside us by accident and then 2 guests ate while the other watched and waited another 15min for food. Slow on the draw with coffee/luke warm water. Would not recommend sitting down here for breakfast.

AKA Central Park - the A Cafe great spot - we had a wonderful leisurely brunch while waiting for weather to clear up before taking a carriage horse ride in Central Park. Very good food, service. Not crowded in the rain. Minimalist decor and cool atmosphere. Will go back when we return to NYC.

Wonderful experience as we stumbled upon this sleek venue. Received a tour from the F&B manager. Will definitely look into staying here the next time! Don't miss the breakfast/brunch/lunch! The best coffee and latte. Caring and conscientious staff! Would recommend for a modern and welcoming environment. Great for all!

Very good hotel with very nice attendants. The room is pretty big and has a kitchen on it. The only part I hated was that my basket with food that you can order didn't come on time The bathroom is big with a great bath tub, a great sink and a great toilet

Always knew the cafe was here but decided to give it a try today and it was the best decision I've made all week. Ordered the corn crepes and watermelon salad- it was absolutely delicious!! The hibiscus iced tea was also on point. Loved the staff-- so personable and friendly! I work on 5th ave and will definitely return. It's my new favorite place for lunch now!

(This review is for a party I organized in the a.lounge at the AKA Central Park hotel.) I used the a.lounge at the AKA Central Park hotel for a birthday party reception for my wife. It was a huge success - a great space, wonderful service and a very reasonable price. Before the event, my wife had played a piano recital nearby (just steps away from Carnegie Hall!), so I was looking for a space in the area that could serve drinks and heavy hors d'oeuvres in a good atmosphere for about 30 to 40 people. I called around a few places, got some quotes (some of them outrageous) and eventually chose the AKA Central Park. Apart from the price, I was very impressed with the space and with the can-do attitude of the lounge's manager, Marta. I was not disappointed. I discussed a menu with her, including a welcome cocktail and how the room would be set up. When we arrived, there was a very tasty champagne drink, which included a berry floating on the top. It was excellent. Meanwhile, the barperson was dishing up excellent cocktails, including my wife's favorite, a brandy sidecar, which was the best we had ever had. They certainly know how to make their drinks here. In addition, the wine served was of very good quality, when they could easily have poured stuff from a jug. They had set up the room with a roaring fire and candles, so there was a very nice and intimate atmosphere, and had set up some nibbles for guests when they arrived. After that, servers circulated with the hors d'oeuvres we had ordered. Most were very good, some not so, but overall we were very pleased. They certainly didn't skimp on quantity and the servers were very pleasant and attentive. Meanwhile, Marta was available to take care of a couple of requests (storing some gifts and setting up a laptop to display some photos) and was always available to make sure things were running smoothly. She also made sure the cake we had ordered to be delivered was accepted efficiently, armed with candles and served to the guests. In total, it was a great success. We had many compliments from attendees, some of whom said they would be interested in using the space in the future.

I travel frequently to NYC on business - typically for a month at a time. I wish that I had found out about this property sooner! Its absolutely great for extended stays in Manhattan. The kitchen was beautiful - stainless steel appliances, deep sink, granite counter tops, and a refrigerator/freezer, stainless steel dishwasher(!), microwave, and stove/oven! This place is so much better than any of the other hotels that I have tried (like Affinia). The kitchen is so well stocked with pots, pans, dishware, glasses, and utensils - I could not believe it. The fitness center is HUGE and all of the equipment is up to date. AMAZING LOCATION, TOO! - Central Park just steps away... Not only was the kitchen outstanding, but the bathroom (while small - not too small) was beautifully decorated. The whole apartment was tastefully decorated and the bed was comfortable. The closet was spacious. There were 2 TVs, DVD player, sound system - anything you could want while away from home. I will definitely stay here again if they can accommodate me - when in NYC - I wouldn't stay anywhere else from now on. I can't wait to try their other properties in the Manhattan area!
