I've heard so much about this place from friends and also from social media and when I had the opportunity to go with coworkers recently, I just had to!
Akasaka is a small and quaint restaurant and it's amazing how the exterior doesn't match the interior. On the outside it looks like a hole in the wall, but when you walk inside it's as if you've been transported to a restaurant in Japan.
Our group of three were seated quickly because we were one of the first ones there in the morning and we were quickly served with miso soup and edamame. We ordered the takoyaki to share, the viral chirashi bowl, a sashimi/tempura lunch combo, and a sashimi/grilled salmon lunch combo.
When the food came out, we were all impressed because the value of the food was already justified by the quantity. There was so much sashimi with the combos. The salmon was very large. The chirashi was massive.
I'll be focusing mainly on the chirashi bowl because I had to tackle it all myself, in which I did somehow finish myself except for some rice. The chirashi bowl was $50 and it came with a large assortment of sashimi. I had many pieces of salmon, yellowtail, and seared albacore as well as some seaweed salad, poke, ikura, chuka jja salad. There was also a piece of eel, a scallop, a sweet shrimp & its fried head, and also some monkfish liver. Everything was delicious, but my only 1 wish was that the rice was seasoned. For my first bite of the rice after tackling the sashimi for a bit, I was expecting a nice sweet vinegary bite of rice but it ended up being plain rice which disappointed me a bit. I would come again, but would also definitely bring a friend to split the chirashi.
