Rooftop Restaurant Celebrating Peruvian-Japanese Cuisine Arrives on Fifth Avenue - Eater San Diego

"The highest-profile opening since the return of dine-in service in San Diego is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23 when Lumi by Akira Back touches down in the Gaslamp. Spanning a 5,000-square-foot rooftop, the restaurant is the first activation within a new 15,000-square-foot, multimillion hospitality development at the corner of Fifth Avenue and J Street, which is being operated by RMD Group. Lumi is the first local project for acclaimed chef Akira Back, whose portfolio of eateries runs the global gamut from San Francisco to Saudi Arabia and Dallas to Dubai; his restaurant Dosa, in Seoul, Korea, was awarded a Michelin star in 2018. Designed by Davis Ink., with an outdoor bar area constructed from large granite boulders with live greenery overhead, all of Lumi’s seats are in the open air. The restaurant and bar will be open for dinner nightly, with hours starting at noon on Saturday and Sunday and extending until 2 a.m. on weekends." - Candice Woo

Unique Japanese twist fusion food, very pretty dishes but wine list was expensive. Wonderful private room, good customer service and rather attentive too. Pizza was unique and well executed. As was the Taco shells too.

I would politely suggest that this restaurant gave the impression of being a more upscale establishment than it actually was. Initially, they promptly brought new dishes and removed those that were not entirely empty. The table wasn't cleared of crumbs until just before dessert. While I was attempting to order a second drink, I noticed that no one approached me to take my order, despite the wine menu being readily available and my empty glass having been removed. Finally, their toilet was malfunctioning.🙈

Each dish delights with impeccable taste, quality, and presentation, ensuring a memorable culinary journey. Cap off your meal with one of the most delicious desserts you'll ever indulge in. Excellent chef tasting experience for 2 (108,000 won per person). We had a credit at the hotel to use and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Initially thought it was going to be more Japanese inspired, but we were pleasantly surprised that was not the only inspiration. Unlike others mentioning the croquettes they were actually delicious.

This is amazing course menu and we really enjoyed it. Signature Tuna Pizza is fantastic taste combination with crispy bread and tendered fresh thin tuna slice. Truffle oil on top made this dish super great. I strongly recommend to go with Greatest Hit Set Menu. It looks not much but you can feel very full in the end.

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to! The service was great and the food was excellent. Our group did a tasting menu and it was all delicious, there was a mushroom course on there and we all usually don’t like mushrooms but it was prepared in a way that almost made it taste like bulgogi so that was actually pretty good! Our group actually got diverted here after we tried to get into Yu Yuan without a reservation (make a reservation online for either of these restaurants!) and we got lucky that they had a spot for us! We were not at all upset about being diverted here, place was excellent but expensive, as was expected. Average price for two drinks and the set menu was about $165 per person.

Akira Back is a restaurant I frequently visit; however, my attempt at selecting a menu was unsuccessful, as the recommended dish didn't suit my taste. Nevertheless, it is undoubtedly a place known for its pleasant ambiance and delicious food.
