Al Andalus - Review - Centro Histórico - Mexico City - The Infatuation

"One of Mexico City’s oldest Lebanese restaurants is also ideal for slowing down the pace and enjoying a generous meal after museum hopping in Centro Histórico (they have a newer, over-the-top outpost in San Ángel). We love them for the classics, served in family-style portions in an unpretentious space with white tablecloths and not much décor. There’s a thick version of labneh drizzled with olive oil, hummus, and shanklish, plus one of the best crudo kibbeh you’ll find in the city. It’s a generous portion of raw meat (with a bright pink color, shaped like a flower petal), garnished with onion, radishes, and chile for mixing and scooping with crunchy pita bread triangles. Since they’re grilling masters, go with anything with meat, like the shawarma or grilled lamb chops." - Mariana Camacho

Lebanese food in an oasis upstairs from the hustle and bustle downstairs on level 1. As you walk by you will see the glimpse of the tranquility through the front door courtyard with nice curated plants. It’s such a juxtapose from the hustle of Centro. Enter the historic old house and walk upstairs into the dining area with elevated ceilings and well cross ventilation. If you really want to people watch find a table by a window. Expect a portable coat stand for civility to hang your backpack and coat before placing your order. There are vegetarian offerings and also a wide variety of dishes from salads to skewers and side dishes. It’s a healthy offering especially if you’ve had many heavy meals since arriving.

Great Turkish Coffee! We ordered a medium"Una Jarra de Café Árabe " and that was more than enough for two. The olives were fantastic! We ordered a chicken Shawarma & a Chorizo Shawarma, Falafels, and everything was exquisite! Only a 15 minute walk from our hotel near "El Zocalo", and it was definitely worth it! Highly recommend!

Google
Fantastic food, traditional Lebanese made with amazing produce. The portions are very generous, perfect for sharing, the service is quick and kind, the prices are fair. This is a place that you’ll be coming back, everything is delicious.

Lamb was very meaty, it’s not fresh. It was cooked quite old too, very chewy. I don’t recommend this place. Great service tho.

Google
This a very good place to have lunch, and try something different. This is a fusion but I really like the concept and everything here is delicious, the service is great, all the staff is worried you have the best experience and that enjoy your time here. Try the huevos a la cazuela con chorizo árabes this one was my favorite.

Mind blowing to find an authentic and delicious lebanese feast right in the heart of Mexico city. Beautiful food. And the house limon water is so refreshing.

Yelp
Ordered: Jarra de Café Arabe Chica (MX $75) Pan con Queso y Zaatar (MX $120) Pastel de Dátil (MX $100) Aya's take: Being Lebanese myself, I was pleased to hear that there was a Lebanese neighborhood in Mexico City and after hearing about the famous Date Pie aka Pastel de Dátil in a New York Times article, we decided to take a break from Mexican cuisine to try out Al Andalus. We started with the Jarra de Café Arabe which was made just right. It reminded me of Lebanon and gave me that midday caffeine kick I needed. The Pan con Queso y Zaatar was surprisingly not authentic. It was essentially just cheese with dry zaatar on the side. I was expecting it to be baked with half Cheese and half Zaatar. They essentially gave us the zaatar to sprinkle on our own. The Pastel de Dátil was rich, naturally sweet from the dates, and a bit dense. I picked up on other spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom which gave it some warmth while the crust was more crunchy and nutty. Good try, overall!

Yelp
I was a little taco-ed out in Mexico City and craving middle eastern food. This place did NOT disappoint. I'm Persian and have traveled all over the Middle East. This food was truly identical to what you would find abroad. Fresh, delicious, and located in the heart of historic Mexico City. I didn't see any tourists which was pretty cool. I definitely recommend.

Yelp
This place was great--very accommodating for kids! I had 'taco arabe' (a giro) and they made an equivalent of a Philly cheesesteak for my five year old.

Yelp
The place is right in the middle of downtown Mexico City, with all its commerce and people walking by. Its an old colonial house, with many tables. The food is just the best Lebanese food in Mexico City. Great quality and amazing taste. You better come hungry and with lots of friends so you can enjoy many dishes. We had everything, from all types of kepe to shawarmas. The eggplant hummus is crazy good... plus the kepe bolls are amazing. Desserts are incredible if you still have room for them. Worth the traffic to get there.

Yelp
Holy wow, absolutely delicious! Best meal in Mexico so far. Amazing felafel and the baba ganoush was off the chart. Lovely service. 100% recommend.

Yelp
The food is magnificent and the prices unbelievable. A real gem in Mexico city. Traditional Arab food prepared to perfection. The atmosphere says that they have been there for many years. the owner was there making sure that everything was fine. Leave room for the desserts and coffee.

Yelp
A hard to get to place with great food. We enjoyed a bike ride on Sunday then headed to the centro to look for this place. Streets were crowded but worth the effort. Started with the Lebanese sampler platter, wine, veggies, then schwarma and a meatball dish. Good service, good portions. There is a charge for the chips and starters, and the desserts are a must!

Yelp
A Mexican Lebanese friend took me here once to try "authentic Libanes" food. The colonial mansion in which the restaurant is located is gorgeous and the place's off-the-beaten track location in the centro make it feel like a nice find. But I thought the food was dry and lacked flavor at times. Plus the menu is relatively expensive for this part of the centro.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in town. Incredibly delicious. Order the platos libanes with tacos arabe. It is a bunch of different plates: taboulie, jocoque, hummus, baba garnish, a beef tartare that people go wild for but I think it's just ok (not really my thing), two kinds of rice, stuffed grape leaves, a cheese thing, and kepe bola which are amazing. The tacos arabe are to die for too and they bring you tons of hot, fresh potato. Get the limonada with mint and the baklava too. All incredibly tasty
