Al Chile - Review - Sunset - San Francisco - The Infatuation

Google
Really solid local spot specializing in El Salvadorian food (and tacos too haha). The atmosphere is very casual and a good choice for any time of the day. You order at the counter and they will serve you if you choose to eat there. We were really impressed with the yucca fries. Very delicious, and it satiated our yuca frita craving from when we went to Costa Rica recently. I had the al pastor and fish tacos which I thought were okay. I enjoyed the fish taco the most. I must try the pupusas next time. I bet they are fire.

Google
A very welcome addition to the inner sunset and probably the best burrito in this part of the city: grilled, flavorful, and a nice mix of pickled peppers inside. Really liked the shrimp and fish tacos. Looking forward to trying the rice plates and chilaquiles next time. Horchata was excellent.

Google
Best pupusa of my life outside of one spot in El Salvador Like woah. Wow. Perfection. Plush dough, generous bean and cheese filling the cheese has a delicate tang to it that cuts through the beans The curtido is my fav ive ever had , i imagine they make it in house ive never seen ghis beautiful pickled purple cabbage Im mind blown truly. Get the pupusa plate with black beans and spanish rice I like the habanero hot sauce for my rice and beans and i LOVE the chipotle on my pupusa. Unreal need to come back ASAP

Google
Delicious pupusas!! This is what the Inner Sunset has being missing. So glad we have quality and affordable Salvadoran food in the Sunset. I will definitely be back. Also, they have a really spicy and flavorful habanero salsa. Can’t wait to try more of their menu

Really good food!!! The taste is amazing, so fresh. It feels like home made food! Highly recommend this place! Definitely will be back. And the staff is also amazing.

Ate at Al Chile yesterday and really enjoyed it! We ordered the quesabirria, two pupusas, and the flautas. Everything was delicious — my partner said the quesabirria was a big standout for him. The owner is super friendly and attentive. This is an excellent new place to support and hopefully it does very well; this neighborhood could’ve used some good Mexican food!

Google
Such a great addition to the Inner Sunset. The food is delicious, and the owner is very attentive! Got the pupusa plate for $12.99

Google
The food is delicious and generously portioned. The staff is super nice and ordering is a breeze. The pupusas are pricey but they are so STUFFED with ingredients that it balances out. They give you a HUGE red sauce and curtido too. Many places will only give a big bag of curtido and tiny tiny red sauces. Welcome to the sunset!!!!! Took one star off because when the sun is setting the restaurant has 100% direct sunlight and is very warm. Maybe come midday or after sunset if you want to sit down :)

Yelp
Best California Burrito that I've had in the Bay Area! The Carnitas was incredible. This is my new favorite Mexican spot in Inner Sunset.

Yelp
This Mexican joint is right between UCSF and Inner Irving's food strip, serving breakfast, tacos, pupusas, fajitas and more. I had a regular burrito with beef and black beans to go. The free chips and the salsas (red ones got a kick to it!) were appreciated. I ate half of it and save the other half for tomorrow, cos it's BIG! Service was efficient and this corner spot is currently decorated to celebrate Halloween!

Yelp
Yummy fish tacos and good chips and guacamole. Their menu is full of tasty looking items and I will definitely be back. The only negatives - the two salsas provided with the chips, not a great flavor, but whatever, the guac more than makes up for that. The bigger negative for me is that the tortilla for the tacos falls apart completely. A hard taco, or double soft tortillas, or a thicker soft tortilla could've prevented the entire taco basically falling apart in my hand.

Yelp
The staff here is so nice. Not too busy on a Tuesday around 12:30pm. I had to circle a bit and found 2 hour parking a couple blocks away. My friend and I got a couple pupusas and a super burrito, it was all very tasty and a solid 4 stars!

Yelp
Looking for lunch and this place popped up on Yelp. Parking was impossible so I dropped off my wife and waited in car. Ordered a total of 4 pupusas and dessert empanadas (not knowing what to expect with the empanadas). Waited about 30 minutes. 10 minute drive home and food was still warm. My bean and cheese pupusa did not have any cheese, bummer. The other pupusas would have been better with more cheese. There was no "cheese stretch". The green sauce was thin, not much flavor. Curtido and red sauce were decent. Overall, passable. Would return for the pupusas but will pass on the empanadas next time (not the pastry I'd thought and not much flavor).

Yelp
The food is a like a warm hug. I got papusa, burrito, and horchata. I know... Too ambitious. Half burrito to go. You order first and then take a seat.

Yelp
Yummy tacos and pupusas. Pupusas were more filled than other pupusas I've had. Al pastor was different than others I've had (maybe because this is a Salvadorian restaurant?), but it was still really good.

Yelp
The food is very good, fresh , tasty and delicious. The service is great but the girls in the cashier don't understand English well. I ordered a burrito and it became a taco.,It was really good and tasty so I didn't mind .? The Taco was really. Cheesy and big . The place is clean and very light inside, I would recommend it to anyone who wants delicious and Fresh food.

Yelp
New spot in the inner sunset that's walkable from UCSF and close to Golden Gate Park. We came for a late lunch on Saturday and decided to try a pupusa (the one with meat and cheese beans) and their appetizer enchiladas to share. You order first and then grab seating. It's a small spot with 4-6 tables inside. Food didn't take long and you can hear and smell all the great food noises coming from the kitchen! Food was delicious and my tummy was quite happy!! Will definitely be back to help support small local business

Yelp
Fast service, great staff, pupusas were really really good. Generous portions, fwiw. Here are a few more words so I can post this review is a solid neighborhood restaurant.

Yelp
Everything was amazing, all the flavors and dishes were so fresh, and homemade. The service is amazing, all the people who work there are very nice and happy to help you with any recommendations. Will definitely go back.

Yelp
Katalina was our culinary superhero, rescuing us from a flavorless fate by ordering the best stuff on the menu. The 2 meat super burrito - carnitas and chicken were explosive flavor combos and their large carne asada taco was a real champion. Al Chile's barely out of diapers at four months old, but it's already rocking five-star reviews like a boss. They're on top of things, and their grub isn't the only awesome thing - their service is laughably good. The joint's clean, but the bare walls could use some pics or paint to jazz it up.

Yelp
I had dinner today with my husband for the first time the food was so fresh and delicious!!! The service was great!! I really recommend this place.

Yelp
I came for lunch two days in a row and had super tacos, pastor and, carne asada and they were very yummy.

Yelp
I was in the neighborhood on errands and my friend and I were ready for lunch. This place popped up in her search and she loves pupusas, so it was an easy yes. We were warmly greeted by the staff. The menu was simple yet plentiful - not in the mood for pupusas? Try a burrito, taco, or enchilada... off the beaten path from the 9th/Irving center of the hood, but affordable and well worth the side quest. I got a pupusa and a super taco with shrimp, and my friend got 2 pupusas. Both the pupusas and tortillas are handmade and delicious. I told another friend who lives in the neighborhood they've gotta come check it out!

Yelp
Good quality, every time I drive by it's empty though in the late afternoon. I hope they survive.

Yelp
Good food but terrible service. Took them 30 minutes to make 2 tacos and nearly as long to bring out any water. No utensils and I had to request a napkin.

Jason W.

Yelp
I got the Super Burrito, and it was delicious! I was only going to eat half and save the rest for later, but it was so good, I ate it all in one sitting. The mild green salsa was also tasty. Friendly and quick service. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
A neighbor's friend said this was the best Mexican foods he's tried in the Bay area. I was so excited to try... so VERY disappointed. We ordered the steak fajitas $18.99 which came with a salad with thousand island dressing, choice of beans and rice. We ordered black beans not too salty... good. The beef was not grilled on an open flame nor cooked on a cast iron skillet which would have given the beef a nice caramelization. The beef was on the tougher side. Taste was okay...nothing special and the tortilla served with the fajitas were not tortillas, instead the pupusas. Definitely we have had much much better at most other places. I would not order again. The revuelta pupusas $5.48 was good but I don't have a bench mark to compare since it was the first time I tried a pupusas. Super chicken taco $5.99. The chicken was cold, the sour cream was luke warm instead of cold the guacamole was good and they forgot to add salsa fresca. Over all the taste was good but the temperatures were wrong. Service was pleasant, order at the counter, they brought chips and 2 salsa. Chips were on the thicker side. Had to ask for flatware. Decor was white walls with some decorations. Overall clean but the walls did have scuff marks and each table had hand sanitizer. I would not recommend this place based on what we ordered . Very mediocre at best.

Yelp
The pupusas are excellent. House made salsa, beans and rice all delicious! Service is excellent. I wasn't a huge fan of the flautas, which the server recommended. So excited to have a yummy pupusa spot in this neighborhood. Definitely plan to come back.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place out as the neighborhood desperately needs a decent taqueria / burrito joint. Additionally, having worked with a lot of Salvadorenos, I also enjoy a good pupusa, so Salvy Mex seemed like the best of both worlds. To try it out, I got a burrito and a couple pupusas. The service was quick and kind and the place was clean if empty with plenty of small tables. The pupusas were solid, esp. for the location. There weren't a lot of variations, but they had some classics. I will definitely get these again and can recommend them. So far so good. However, the burrito was pretty disappointing. First off it was full of soggy shredded lettuce, which to be frank, just does not belong in a burrito. Secondly the refried beans were underseasoned and the asada wasn't what I'd expect from a mexican taqueria. Lastly, the salsas were very vinegery, not spicy and distinctly watery. Ultimately I'm glad to have Al Chile in the neighborhood, but I personally can only recommend them for the Salvy and not the Mex.

Yelp
The food here was excellent! And the pricing was great too. Don't sleep on this place, even though it's not in the Mission. Go eat here now!

Yelp
Great new neighborhood family restaurant! On the corner of 6th and Parnassus - finally a restaurant there that can last! I love the super tacos - fresh, delicious, and with a twist. My son loves the tenders and fries. Something there for everyone. Owned and operated by a great friendly guy who will make sure you get everything you need.

Dina L.

Yelp
Loved the pupasa!!!! I also ordered a meat taco that was delicious. Lastly, plantains that were cooked beautifully. Can't wait to go back. And the service was excellent
