Old Delhi is not just a place. It is a mood, a memory, and, if you are lucky, a meal. For me, that meal lives at Al Jawahar, just a few steps from the grand Jama Masjid. You do not just eat here. You step into Mughlai history, one bite at a time.
I went with one goal: to sink my teeth into their famous seekh kebabs and khamiri roti. The second you walk in, the air hits you, spiced and smoky and completely irresistible. The kebabs arrive glistening, soft enough to melt at a nudge, carrying a spice blend so perfect you almost do not want to analyse it. You just close your eyes and savour.
Then comes the khamiri roti, warm and pillowy, with a slight tang that plays beautifully with the richness of the meat. Together, they are not just a pairing. They are a love story.
The place buzzes with chatter, clinking plates, and the hum of hungry people getting exactly what they came for. Friendly staff, no-frills charm, and food that speaks Delhi’s love language. If you want to know the real city, skip the tourist brochures. Come here, take that first bite, and you will understand everything.
