A Review of Finca Victoria, Spain | Hotels Above Par

"Set in the leafy central courtyard at Finca Victoria, this on-site restaurant from chef Jordi Vilà of Michelin-starred Alkimia centers its menu on open-fire cooking with local seafood, grilled meats, and produce from across the Empordà region. The food is exceptional—a perfectly grilled prawn of the famed fat, juicy gamba de Palamós variety; a savory, sweet, humble ratatouille with the Catalan sausage butifarra; and a meaty shank of monkfish in beurre blanc. “This is definitely the case of a restaurant with a hotel, not a hotel’s restaurant.”" - Catherine Tansey

An outstanding spot in Sa Riera. The setting is truly remarkable—warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed. The restaurant specializes in charcoal-grilled dishes, and the quality speaks for itself. Service was attentive and professional without being intrusive. A place that combines excellent cuisine with an exceptional atmosphere. Highly recommended

This is a really special place. The courtyard dining space is so elegant and beautiful. The food is fantastic. The service is really top level. Wine program is very well done also. A great addition to the Begur fine dining scene!

We visited Al Kostat del Mar to celebrate a special occasion. Having read mixed reviews beforehand, I was admittedly a little skeptical, but from the moment we arrived it was clear this place is something special. Originally, I imagine, a private residence, the building has been transformed into a boutique hotel full of character and charm. The restaurant, set in a quiet courtyard with an open kitchen where guests can watch the action, provided the perfect backdrop for our celebration. From the start, the Front of House team made us feel completely at ease. The gentleman who welcomed us was kind, funny, knowledgeable, and made us feel as if we were regulars—despite it being our first visit. As for the food, it was simply sublime. The bread service alone set the tone for the evening: warm, fresh bread paired with exquisite Arbequina olive oil and Maldon salt, attentively replenished throughout. The truffled bikini croquetas and Cesar croquetas were some of the best I’ve had in years—utterly memorable. Courgette flowers filled with langoustines drew praise all around the table, while the mollejas, rice, and entrecôte were prepared to absolute perfection. The à la carte menu is short, but don’t be discouraged—the kitchen knows exactly what it’s doing and excels in every dish. This is a restaurant where less truly is more. In every way, our evening was exceptional, and Al Kostat del Mar made our celebration one to remember.

We went to Al Kostat Del Mar with my wife because we received an email from LHW. The hotel is beautiful, with a stunning location, but the service at Al Kostat was the worst part of our experience. We ordered wine, and they poured the first glass but then left the bottle on the table. We asked if they had any specials, but the server was not aware of them. The biggest red flag for us was when we inquired about allergens in the dishes, they didn’t know and treated us as if we were a burden for asking. The manager in charge was running around, and when we complained about the service, he sent a server to offer us two shots of some Catalan liquor. He never came to the table to speak with us personally. After spending over €150 for lunch in Begur at a 5-star hotel, you expect at least a basic level of service. We felt like we were at a casual beach restaurant rather than in a 5* Hotel.

We had the fish of the day, which unfortunately was undercooked and completely lacking in flavor. The side of vegetables was so oversalted it was inedible — if it hadn’t been for the wine, I wouldn’t have been able to clear the salt from my palate. For a Michelin-starred restaurant, it’s hard to believe the cooks actually taste their food. Service was equally disappointing. Unless you were a familiar face, you were essentially invisible to the staff. Between the lack of attention and the poorly executed dishes, this was far from the refined dining experience one would expect at this level.

Expensive, extremely overpriced and poorly managed. The restaurant has 4 waiters for 20+ tables. Impossible to manage. We had to wait >20 minutes for every interaction with them and they often forgot what we ordered. The food was ok, but very limited and expensive. The waiters didn’t had any oversight of what we ordered, we had to check and find a wine and champagne in the ticket that we never ordered. Watch out!
