"Above anything else, the concept at Al Margen champions "taste through simplicity". This relaxed and informal restaurant alongside the estuary next to San Antón bridge, features a decor of highly original stone columns and hydraulic floor tiles that give it plenty of character, alongside bare tables and a semi-open kitchen at the entrance. The young chefs at the helm here, Adrián Leonelli and Pablo Valdearcos, have created a concise à la carte that showcases updated traditional cuisine that is technically accomplished yet fun and always built around the freshest seasonal produce. A tasting menu is also an option." - Michelin Inspector

Another Michelin recommendation on our trip across Northern Spain this time in one of our favorite cities, Bilbao. We reserved a table for 2 and were seated promptly. The food was excellent with the vegetable dishes in particular packed full of flavor. The broccoli dish is a must! Service was good, with our sever explaining the menu options to us in great detail. That said they were busy and didn’t check in as often as I would have expected and I had to go and find someone to pay the bill to.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A real hidden gem in Bilbao! ✨ The atmosphere is cozy yet modern, with a creative touch in both the interior and the menu. Every dish we tried was beautifully presented and full of flavor — from the broccoli starter to the risotto with shrimp, everything felt carefully thought out. The desserts deserve a special mention — delicate, balanced, and a perfect ending to the meal. Service was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. Highly recommended if you’re looking for something a bit different from the typical Basque pintxos. Worth every minute! 👌

We tried the tasting menu and it was so good. The staff was very friendly and they explained every dish professionaly. We loved their signiture dish broccoli and tuna. The atmosphere was minimalist. It is definitely a must to make a reservation a week before!!!

Incredible tasting menu experience! A very filling menu, with great variety and unique flavours. They had a lot of fish and seafood dishes that were lovely, and they also accommodated to my no-meat diet very well. Each dish that would typically contain meat was substituted with new but equally interesting components, did not feel at all like an afterthought!! As dessert, the kefir tartelette was a standout for sure. Also great atmosphere - the music was incredible, the waiters were all welcoming and explained the dishes well. We left very happy, definitely a place to visit!

Al Margen in Bilbao is an absolute gem, offering an incredible dining experience with a delightful atmosphere. The staff were attentive, professional, and eager to ensure everything was perfect throughout the meal. The food was outstanding, with every dish thoughtfully prepared and presented. The broccoli dish was a standout — so much so that we ordered it twice! Its flavors were both unique and comforting. Another highlight was the lobster rice dish, which was perfectly seasoned and full of rich flavors. In my opinion, Al Margen is Michelin star-worthy, thanks to its combination of exceptional food, impeccable service, and welcoming ambiance. A must-visit for food lovers in Bilbao!

We went here for the Bib Gourmand menu on a Thursday. Staff was very welcoming and explained the options well. It’s obvious that the broccoli is going to be awesome, as the walls are basically coated in broccoli, and it indeed was. We really liked the fact that flavours were so surprising without using any meat. We’re meat eaters and only noticed at the end that (besides a fish dish) we basically ate vegetarian. I did the drink pairing and didn’t care much for the non alcoholic drinks. It was interesting to try, but I would just stick to wine next time. Price is fair and you’ll definitely have a great evening. I would recommend going here.

Lovely tasting menu. Nicely paced. Excellent service and unique and interesting food. Wine parings were local and adeptly chosen. Warm color pallet of the restaurant really worked with the rainy winter day we came to eat.

Food was really underwhelming. No seasoning and tasteless. Not at all Michelin guide level.we couldn’t finish as we didn’t enjoy unfortunately . The broccoli starter was the best dish of all. Rest was bland and so so.
