It’s my birthday week, and since we’re staying at Solaz, we saved this Michelin restaurant for my birthday dinner. It ended up being the perfect choice. Not only was the food excellent, but our server, Sergio, gave us a mini masterclass on tequila, mezcal, and yes—even Jose Cuervo. It made the whole experience that much richer.
We started with two cocktails: La Rubarosa and La Damiana. The Rubarosa was surprisingly smooth and light - one of those drinks you don’t expect to enjoy as much as you do.
For starters, we ordered the bluefin tostada and the roasted beet salad. The corn tortilla on the tostada was honestly the tastiest I’ve ever had. Perfect texture, perfect flavor.
For our mains, we chose the bean tamale and the seafood rice. The tamale came with an exceptional mole - truly the star of the plate. The tamale itself was fine, but the mole absolutely stole the show. Did you know that true mole has over 40 ingredients? The seafood rice was flavorful, masterfully prepared, and a generous portion.
For dessert, we ordered the horchata ice cream, which was lovely. But the real surprise was the tres leches cake they brought out for my birthday. I was already stuffed, but I still managed to eat half and took the rest back to the room.
Would we return? Absolutely - especially if we’re back in the area. And if we had to pick just one restaurant at Solaz, this would be our top choice.
