"In the middle of Xaghra lies this outwardly inconspicuous restaurant that extends over two floors and boasts a small terrace out front. The Chef-Owner hails from Toronto and forged his independent business here in the middle of the pandemic, showing just how much heart and soul is behind his cooking! If you love simple cuisine based on fresh produce – especially when it comes to meat and seafood – try the prawn & scallop-filled ravioli with prawn bisque, or the delicious veal rack with salsa verde. Everything is uncomplicated, ingredient-led and freshly prepared. An international wine list and the friendly, attentive yet unstuffy service round off the overall experience." - Michelin Inspector

We stumbled onto this place by accident last year and had a wonderful experience. Today, we decided to return and have my last lunch there - I leave for home tomorrow. There were 5 of us. We were seated upstairs. Our meal was amazing - from starters to entree. The wait was a tad long, but we were chatting and enjoying wine, so it was okay. Very enjoyable, food cooked perfectly, waitstaff very attentive and friendly. At times it was a bit loud, but not the entire time.It was a Sunday - very busy. They won a Michelin Star last year - congrats!! Well deserved. Will be back next time I am in Malta.

Thankfully I managed to find this gem of a restaurant while visiting Gozo on a mid-week day in January when most things that were posted as being open were indeed closed. I was greeted by John who provided just the right measure of attentiveness and space. I ordered the fresh calamari to start which I was told was local, freshly cleaned and marinated. It was absolutely tender and delicious. That was followed by the salt crusted sea bream which while delicious I should have waited to order as by the time I finished the complementary Gozo cheese and tomato starter I was too full to truly enjoy. The wine was wonderful and I can see why they have earned their Michelin star accreditation. I certainly would love to visit again when I return to Gozo. Thank you for an absolutely lovely evening.

Al Sale, located in the heart of Xagħra, Gozo, offers a delightful dining experience. I had dinner there and started with their seafood and shrimp soup, one of the day’s specialties, which was rich and flavorful—a perfect start to the meal. For the main course, I enjoyed the sea bream cooked in salt, expertly prepared and deliciously fresh. The service was excellent, with attentive and friendly staff ensuring a pleasant evening. Overall, Al Sale is a great choice for anyone seeking high-quality seafood in a welcoming atmosphere.

Stunning food, with great service and view of the beautiful church and square. They also have a lovely terrace (wasn't open when we went in the afternoon but the staff took us up to see the view). Friendly staff and good value for money.

We enjoyed a delicious meal here last night. We ate outside and were able to soak up the atmosphere of a local festival right outside the church. We recommend the rabbit ravioli, prawn, crab & scallop ravioli, pistachio & burrata parpardelle and the dolphin fish. We also enjoyed a bottle of the Gozo Merlot. The pasta dishes can be ordered as starters or mains - portions were big! Bread with olive oil, tomato and Gozan cheese was given as a starter along with a free limoncello with the bill! Excellent value & excellent friendly service - our meal came in at a little over €100.

Walking into Al Sale Restaurant, it became apparent why it has become Gozo’s latest Michelin Star bistro. The comfortable surroundings inside this centuries-old building were as inviting as the staff. Our table on the second-floor terrace overlooked Xaghra’s lively and historic square. Each dish, a masterpiece of freshness and innovation, was a delight for both the palate and the eye. The eight-course fish-based tasting menu, priced at a reasonable €45 per person, and the €35 five-wine pairing left us completely satisfied as if we had received a generous gift. Chef-Patron, Christopher Pace, took a mountainous chance when he opened this taste-tingling restaurant in 2020 during the middle of the pandemic. His efforts have paid off. Nothing will disappoint you in this Michelin Star establishment. This was my partner's birthday. An meal at Al Sale, with a glass of wine will run about €25.

Truly exceptional in every way. Excellent quality ingredients; friendly, knowledgable and attentive staff; and really delicious food. We had the 8 course seafood tasting menu with wine pairing and it was sublime. The tuna tartare first course was a particular highlight, as was the prawn bisque. The Gozotan Chardonnay was delicious too. It was busy (Friday eve) and had a good atmosphere, but not too many tables packed in. A real gem. Will be back!
