Metro Detroit’s Best Lebanese Restaurants | Eater Detroit

"This classic, family-run Lebanese restaurant specializes in grilled meats like shish, kafta, lamb chops, and boneless grilled chicken. The plates themselves are works of art, with colorful, painted strokes of pickled beets, parsley, dark beef, and turmeric-spiced chicken everywhere. The restaurant accepts online orders through third-party sites including Uber Eats." - Danny Palumbo

Sometimes, you just want a simple, fresh, and respectful dining experience—especially when ordering something as basic as a salad. Unfortunately, that wasn’t our experience here. My wife ordered a chicken salad from this establishment, but didn’t get the chance to eat it right away. When she noticed the quality had drastically declined—soggy lettuce, questionable appearance—she reached out to share her concerns. Instead of understanding or accountability, she received a verbal reprimand. Not once, but twice—over the phone and in person. We understand that not every dish will be perfect, and we weren’t expecting miracles—just kindness and professionalism. Instead, we left feeling dismissed and disappointed. So if you’re looking for a place that not only prepares food with care, but also treats you with respect, we kindly recommend Bucharest Grill. With multiple locations around Detroit, their salads are fresh, their chicken is flavorful, and their team seems to understand the art of hospitality. Dressing comes on the side—because they actually anticipate real-life scenarios. No hard feelings—just choosing better next time.

Came here for Ramadan special deal for two persons. Good staff and service. it was $56.75 for two persons that we paid. Food was delicious.

Google
Absolutely incredible experience! This is hands down the best Mediterranean food I’ve ever had—everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. From the hummus to the grilled meats and sides, every bite was amazing. The staff was so kind and welcoming, and the service was top-notch—attentive without being overbearing. You can really tell they care about their food and their customers. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this place to everyone I know!

Google
My sister loved this restaurant. She moved across the country 10 years ago and always craves Al Sultan. I was going to visit n she begged me to bring her some and don't touch it on the way!! Lol We all ate it once we got there and it truly was the BEST Arabic food I have ever had!!! I never listened before when she would tell me I should go there. Now I see what she was talking about!! It really is the best from Detroit to Ann Arbor that our family has had!!! You will not be disappointed!!! And the people are very nice!!

Amazing food, great staff, and a clean, welcoming atmosphere! Everything was well-prepared, and the service was excellent. Definitely a place worth visiting!

Google
This place is so cute. My first time and everything was so good. The service was so friendly. They were busy for take out dinners but not to busy inside. I had a bowl of hummus 😋 and a chicken sandwich. It was so affordable. Really nice.

The food was very good. My family enjoyed coming here for lunch.

Google
I've been coming to this location for nearly 20 years and would choose this place over ALL other middle eastern restaurants. Not sure what has happened but the past several times of going the food has changed. Don't get me wrong, the staff is always friendly and calming atmosphere but the food has been incredibly slacking. Sadly becoming more tasteless (including the garlic sauce) and small simple cooking requests are unfulfilled. I've given them several tries before calling it quits, however, the likelihood of going again is very doubtful. Unfortunately, my search to other locations will begin.

Yelp
I have visited this amazing place about five times in the last ten years when I visit my hometown Detroit. Every single time we have ordered the Sultan Combo and it was absolutely perfect. Someday I might try an individual plate, but it is more likely going to be one more Sultan Combo with a smile on my face ear to ear. Go eat here. You will not regret it, I promise.

Yelp
My husband and I ordered chicken shawarma meat yesterday, fattoush dressing and a side of garlic sauce (carryout). We were very pleased, the food is good quality, the garlic sauce is wonderful. The reason my star review is low, is because we returned tonight to order the chicken shawarma meat again. Yesterday the cost for the chicken shawarma meat itself was $10, and today it was $16. I am not sure why the price changed, it is disappointing because the establishment is nice, however must be a lack of communication between the staff.

Yelp
Food was excellent! The grilled chicken with that sauce on it was superb.. chefs kiss

Yelp
I remember coming here a few years ago, and the toum was really salty, and when I mentioned it to the cashier, he got very offended. I gave the waitress a big tip because she was amazing but I have never gone back since, and I never will!

Yelp
I'm sure I have reviewed them before but this a during COVID review lol! There is only one thing that I can say about this restaurant and that is "It is always on point!" This is one of my favorite places to grab food from even through all of this COVID mess. The food is good and the service is always served with a smile and quick. This time I got a take out order because their dine in service was closed due to COVID(lack of staff). If you have never been here you can miss it because it's tucked back in a small strip center but it sits right on Inkster road off Cherry Hill. I normally get the mixed Shawrma entree with rice and a salad with extra garlic spread..oh and extra sauce for my chicken yummy!! I also got my husband the grilled chicken entree with rice also and added pink sauce(I'm sure there is an actually name for it). Be prepared for the large portions, I mean it's enough to share with another person or have it for a two day meal. Beware of my pictures because it was smelling so good I forgot to snap pictures before we started eating but you will get the point lol!

Yelp
Wanna see what a small "can't wait for dinner" slice of heaven looks like in a plate??? This! EVERYTHING is ALWAYS good here! If you are looking for authentic Arabic food that tastes like you were invited over to a family potluck... where all the grandmas recipes are in one place? THIS! THIS IS IT! I grew up in Garden City but moved away. Every time I'm in the area I stop here. Take out or dine in... it's all fabulous fresh yumminess! Lots of choices in and around Dearborn but if you are looking for THĒ BEST? Come here. I cannot say enough. Well, yes I can. I had open heart surgery a few years back and this is where I sent my family to get me food. Was. Is. Hopefully will always be my favorite!!! Thank you for always being exactly what I remember!!

Yelp
I'll start off by saying that the service was decent, polite and friendly staff, but Falafel sandwich, although the ingredients seemed fresh, was super bland, and quite mediocre. Perhaps it's just the falafel, idk? Lentil soup was also okay, but a bit on the bland side, and no lemon wedges offered either.

Yelp
First time Ive had ck shawarma wraps in forever an not disappointed. Greeted with warmth an friendliness always-clean an crispy there. love my local spot

Yelp
Great Food at a great value and wonderful service. I love the mixed grill for one. Their garlic is also amazing.

Yelp
I've been to Al Sultan a number of times now for carry out. Super friendly owner, and staff as well. The food has always been amazing, and it's worth passing a handful of similar restaurants to get the food stuff. The combos for 2 and 4 have been plentiful every time, with plenty to feed our family of 5. The only minor hiccup I've encountered is with some irregularities in the sizes of things like salad and hummus that have come with the combos. Sometimes they're small, sometimes they're large, and once I didn't get hummus at all. Overall I think Al Sultan is a quality meal at a reasonable price.

Yelp
Must order grilled chicken sauce is amazing and excellent family friendly service. Clean and delicious hummus and try lentil soup

Yelp
The best shawarma in the area HANDS DOWN. We have places closer to us in canton but my wife and I will make the trip here instead just because the food is so great.
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
Oh my that marinated chicken breast with garlic sauce is just too good. I can eat that every day. The secret is the tanginess of the chicken that is marinated overnight. Their steak with garlic sauce is also a winner. I have yet to visit this place without seeing the dedicated owner serving it up or behind the register, speaks volume to the quality of service and food. Salad and hummus not my favorite, gotta say that, but the main dishes are fantastic. This small business has been around for ages and has consistently served up great meals, so give them a try I recommend it.

Yelp
Excellent flavor and freshness, the chicken kefta sandwich haunts me days later. It is grilled in-house with a tasty char. Garlic sauce is short-cut style (with eggs for emulsification, instead of adding the oil slowly at a trickle) so it is technically a mayonnaise and not true toom garlic sauce. Tasted good on the sandwich. Not too drippy and not soggy at the end. The fried kibbeh had a warm, familiar flavor (I grew up with this food) and smooth ground meat texture. The stuffed grape leaves were huge! They were easy to bite into with no fork, the rice and meat filling didn't spill out. A plus while eating in the car. The hummus is super smooth, has a great flavor and tastes good on everything. You will have plenty left over to dip every chip into at home, too. You get nice, fresh locally made chewy Syrian bread (and you get a lot of it) to use instead of utensils. Take out was easy, they were super busy, lots of non-middle eastern people coming in to get their delicious food. I was very happy with everything, the service was friendly, too. Then we drove out of the parking lot and saw the owner, who was standing indoors WITHOUT A MASK ON, talking to someone he seemed to know. BUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The 4 stars is for the quality of the food, aside from the owner's non-mask wearing. I think once he sees this review from a highly qualified person with Lebanese heritage and a pretty good standing with Yelp, he will not be seen without a mask on until the pandemic is over.....RIGHT?!

Yelp
I'm not going to lie I wasn't impressed. It's so hard to pick food when you aren't in your local area. I order something super simple with chicken and the chicken has no flavor. Like I don't even see seasoning on it. The service was good and they were pleasant the food just didn't match.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this restaurant! Friendly & accommodating staff. The owner is wonderful. Always a pleasant time.Decent prices and plenty of food for their pricing! I have ordered take out many times and have eaten in this restaurant twice. I've only had an issue one time (small salad wasn't in the bag on a carryout order), and they were very accommodating and corrected it right away (actually credited me for a large salad on my next order). The only criticism I have (keeping me from giving a full 5 stars): in the back hallway where the bathrooms are, they need to wash the walls and doors, as they are EXTREMELY dirty from fingerprints, etc.. The remainder of the restaurant is very clean, it's just that back hallway that's dirty.

Yelp
This place always serves the freshest and delicious Middle Eastern food (1/2 boneless chicken with rice with soup or salad is our personal fave!) Owner and servers are always nice and friendly. My friends and I are always eating here at least twice a month. My hubby and I order to go at least once a week. We love to support local businesses

Yelp
Metro Detroit has a vast varieties of food but one of the best Middle Eastern places to eat is Al-Sultan on Inkster. It's a small place but the food is good. I know it's clean and safe because when I worked in Public Health the Sanitarians ate here snd Wayne County Sheriff Deputies.

Amanda A.

Yelp
Go to place for some amazing food !!! Customer service is A+ and the portions are big !! Best hummus around too !! We usually order a platter they say feeds 3-4 but honestly 6 people can easily eat from it and you get such a nice variety of food !!!
google avatar

Yelp
This review is solely based on the boneless grilled chicken. I'm sitting here, in the middle of the night, picking through the rice that was under the chicken that I ate 5 hours ago. I never eat the rice. Rice is rice (boring). But this rice has some of the sauce that they put on the chicken. I moved out of Dearborn 10 years ago. And the stuff that passes for middle eastern food around where I live.....to put it nicely....it's GARBAGE! I wouldn't feed it to my dog. Why wouldn't I feed it to my dog? Because he lived in dearborn for 3 years too and HE knows what middle eastern food should taste like! So I get back to my mecca of middle eastern food and I head straight to Al Sultan's, which is in Garden City, for the boneless grilled chicken. It's better than I remember. I don't say this lightly, so listen up..... The boneless grilled chicken at Al Sultans is the Best middle eastern dish in South East Michigan. I've drawn the line, let's fight about it. I've been to Al Ameers, La Pita, La Shish, Al Shallal, Golden Bakery, Beirut by night, sajo, and many many more. I've eaten lamb chops and shawarma almost as many times as I've had pizza. I know more about middle eastern food than ANYONE who has a last name that's Irish. All I'm sayin is, try the chicken. Thank you for listening. This was a little like therapy for me

Yelp
My go to spot! They have catered events for me and my family & I often get takeout. We most recently got a carry out during the Covid-19 Stay at Home order. We were very relieved to see how much they adjusted to make customers and employees feel safe, great job! Recommend ALWAYS getting hummus, their salads are great, grape leaves on point, and we love the cilantro chicken. Everything is very flavorful and the presentation is flawless!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious food, great service. Family friendly. The portions are fantastic, always feeds my whole family with leftovers.

Yelp
I recently had to change my entire life. It started here, with an amazing meal and an awesome waiter. Coming back every time i see my brother. Get the falafel, order extra. Come by and see their amazing hoste alihachem and asmat

Yelp
Whole deboned chicken SLAPS. My favorite place to order Arabic food. Tastes how my family would make it. I recommend this place to every one!

Yelp
Boneless chiClem with white sauce is the best meal ever!! The sauce is tangy and delicious! love this place and staff so friendly.

Yelp
Super awesome owners and staff!! Amazing food and service every time I have gone! Never any issues!! Great place to get the most delicious food!

Yelp
It was hard to decide...3 or 4 stars?? This has always been our go to place when visiting family in the area. I would crave their food & looked forward to ordering from them every visit. The last time we ordered, their hummus & fattoush salad just didn't seem the same. That was about three to four weeks ago. We ordered again today. Hummus still doesn't seem right & the chicken Shawarma was very dry. Also, the pita bread seemed old. I'm very disappointed to say we will be looking for a new go to spot. Consistency is key & something has happened here! COVID maybe??
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Very good food. The owner is very hands on and checks every table to make sure the food came out, to the expectations of its diners. The dinner for two is exceptional. The food is fresh. The hummus is the best of any eatery in the area. The salads are ridiculously, fantastic. Go there!
google avatar

Alina A.

Yelp
Zesty shawarma and great location! This place has exited for more than 10 years, but I started going to Al Sultan recently. The restaurant is kept nice and clean with very unique Lebanese decor! I have tried sandwiches and deboned chicken from Al sultan. Both are good but I prefer the sandwiches for $3:99
google avatar

Feras S.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, prices are reasonable compared to other Middle Eastern full menu dine-ins. Food is overall fresh and delicious, especially the boneless grilled chicken, you must try their boneless chicken dishes. The meat kabob was not so great. Slight improvements maybe on the salad, its too so ur and the parsley is overload. Adding some hot fresh bread like other resturants would be a plus! Would definitely revisit again. One thing I noticed every time we go is the smell of bleach. I understand they probably constantly clean tables and all, but the smell is so strong it turns off your appetite! And some background noise would be nice. The manager is her approachable I should mention these things next time. I would give a 3.5 star but that was not an option so they get a 4.

Kim G.

Yelp
Decent food but if you pay for carry out double check your order before you leave ! They don't include everything and when you call their response is to come back up for it. Not possible when you aren't in the area any longer.
google avatar

Peter H.

Yelp
I ordered from Al Sultan using Doordash. I ordered the lamb chops. It was pretty expensive for a pound of lamb chops. The chops were cooked to medium but the quality of the meat was terrible. They were very tough to chew and dried out almost. They were not tender at all. I gave 2 stars because the hummus was some of the best hummus I've ever had. Unfortunately, the hummus was not the star of the dish. I ate one full chop because I was starving which didn't have much meat being a chop. I tried a bite of all of the other chops and they were just too tough and dry. I had to throw them out. I've never had chops that dry before. Usually when lamb chops are cooked medium and I eat them, they almost melt in my mouth because of how tender lamb is. Don't know what happened here, but not sure I want to try again to find out.

Yelp
By far the worst middle eastern food in the area. Spent $70 on carry out, they got my order wrong, and everything we got was so salty it was almost inedible. I consider myself a good judge of middle eastern food, as I've grown up on this cuisine, and I do like my food on the salty side, so it's rare that I call any food too salty. The falafel here are the worst we've ever eaten, they seemingly contain more salt than they do chick peas. We ordered a whole fish dinner with rice, somehow instead of rice, I got soggy potatoes that they call fries. Who serves fries with a whole fish dinner? After all this disappointment, I thought okay at least the soup had to be good, as I've never had a lentil soup that's been terrible. Well, now I can certainly say that I have. The lentil soup was again incredibly salty, and didn't have any discernible flavor aside from SALT. I don't know how this place has got the reviews that they have. Maybe the lid on their salt shaker just happened to break wide open today and they inadvertently doused everything in a blanket of salt. Regardless, the food was disgusting, over priced, and just plain not worth it, especially with all the food options around here. Revised: added one star because their hummus was actually pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty good.
google avatar

Markie C.

Yelp
I am very surprised to see all the glowing reviews of this place. When my friend ordered his lamb dish he noticed how dry and old the meat tasted. My falafel tasted like it would had been top notched if I had eat it yesterday. The service was great, it was the food that needs work.
google avatar

Dave K.

Yelp
Placed a carryout order to give them a try. Ordered a Large Fattoush Salad, a Large Hummus, 2 Chicken Shawarma sandwiches and 1 Chicken Tawook without pickles and garlic. I made sure to repeat no pickles and garlic twice... Picked up the food which was ready right when theubsaid it would be, and asked once again, the Tawook has no pickles and no garlic, correct? The same girl who answered the phone, quickly and kind of snobby, said Yes! Well, got home, which is about 20 minutes away, and guess what?!?!? YES, THE CHICKEN TAWOOK HAD PICKLES AND GARLIC IN IT! I just don't get it... All the other food was good, but having repeated myself over and over about the chicken Tawook, it should of never been screwed up. I knew when ordering it was going to be messed up as the girl was speaking 100 miles an hour and was in a rush to get me off the phone. We may try them again, but since they didn't get the wife's order right, it may be a very long time before we do...

Yelp
Great food! Fast friendly service! Very clean restaurant and following all the covid restrictions.

Yelp
The best boneless chicken I've ever had. One of my favorite restaurants! We drive half an hour for this food.
google avatar

Mo A.

Yelp
Best shawarma around!!! They were my go to for carry out! Even dine in it was great me and my ex used to go allll the time. But ever since the cook Ali left the place is missing something. The pickles are also great i don't like pickles but they make them great!
google avatar

Marie C.

Yelp
This is my favorite Lebanese restaurant. Best food and service in the area. The owners are amazing and always my go to despite all the 100's of other mideastern restaurants in the area.
google avatar

Joseph C.

Yelp
This rating is explicitly for Al Sultan's Falafel sandwich. They don't know the first thing about making a falafel patty or making the classic Falafel sandwich. Wrong ingredients for both products.
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
I'm not sure what everyone else is eating here but I recently gave Al Sultan a second chance after a terrible first impression and they failed miserably once again. I heard so many great things about this place and was excited to finally try it for the first time about a month ago and got a shish tawook and shish kabob sandwhich. The shish tawook was alright I suppose but dry and nothing special but the "shish kabob" tasted like a burger from McDonalds , absolutely terrible. I always like to give places a second chance after a bad first impression, maybe their normal cook was out, maybe their spice rack went missing that day, maybe the chef assigned cooking duties to his 13yo daughter. Nope the food just isn't all that good... I gave them a second chance on just a plain fattoush salad to see where they were going wrong, that's pretty much the most basic middle eastern dish and something EVERY middle eastern restaurant should make perfectly delicious, right? Wrong. It was without a doubt the worst fattoush salad I have had in my life and I have had thousands. I couldn't even eat it that's how bad it was, I wasted $9 or however overpriced it was and threw it straight in the trash where it belonged. It really makes me wonder where and who these reviews are coming from because this place has almost double the rating of Famous Shawarma in Westland yet Famous Shawarmas is 10x's better AT LEAST, especially their garlic sauce, So Good. I only gave two stars because the shish tawook meat in particular wasn't absolute trash, it had a nice backyard bbq flavor that was interesting. But it was cooked wrong, otherwise they get one star because everything else was just plain terrible.
google avatar

Lindsay F.

Yelp
Hands down the best chicken shwarma I've ever had! I'm from the area and moved to Chicago and every time I'm visiting home I have to stop here and grab a chicken shwarma "with French fries inside" Funny story I went here with a friend one time and we both ordered chicken shwarmas with fries, the waitress looked at us kinda funny and said "are you sure?" we both just stared at each other since that was our normal order and said yes. A few minutes later our shwarmas come out, but no fries. When we asked her about our fries she said oh I thought you wanted them inside. It was so good thats how I always order them now Make sure to ask for a side of garlic with your pita, best garlic in town! Go check out Al Sultans! You won't regret it!

Kisha M.

Yelp
Went here for Mother's Day. Got the food to go. The place was packed with Middle Eastern folk, looked almost like a family reunion up in there. Everybody was happy, eating, laughing, socializing together. Because of this I was very optimistic about the food, thinking I'm about to get some real-deal, delicious, authentic food. WRONG! Got 2 Chicken Shawarma. The chicken inside the Shawarma was as pale as Wonder Bread and tasted just as plain, I mean negative seasoning. You can see in the picture the chicken is camouflaged into the wrap. Huge chunks of tomato and a ridiculous amount of pickle that I had picked out pre-picture. The amount of pickle and tomato made the wrap just melt. Sujuk Sandwich. The meat was very bland and not spicy at all. Once again, ridiculous amount of pickle and tomato which made the wrap mushy and fall apart. Came here before a little over a year ago and got this same sandwich. It was spicy and had no pickle, so this was very surprising and disappointing. Hubby got French fries. They packed them on the bottom which made major condensation inside of the paper bag they put it in. The paper bag had fallen apart and that was inside of a plastic bag. That also helped with the sogginess of the wraps since they put the wraps on top of the fries. To add insult to injury, the fries were not at all cooked. They were greasy and sort of translucent the way fries can be when pulled way too early. They were basically raw. I would have a picture of those but he tried to save them by putting them in the toaster oven but that was another total disaster. Lastly, we also got a garlic bowl. It was so light I'm surprised it didn't start floating away like a Three Musketeers bar in the commercials when I set it on the counter and so bland I could mistake it for mayonnaise. I wish I could say something positive about this place cuz we have gone here before about a year ago and the food was good. I hate to say this but I do feel if we looked like them we would've received better food. Will not be going back sorry to say.

Yelp
Really good food. Price is not bad either. The portions are generous. Everything I've had there has been good.

Heavenly F.

Yelp
Ali the waiter said the chicken is not halal. Sad if this is true! It does taste good though, but the restaurant says their chicken is halal but their employee says another. If that's true, I wonder what else in the restaurant is not halal.
google avatar

Kashif B.

Yelp
I ordered carryout from this restaurant. The food was soggy and had a very bad taste to it!!! The food seemed like it was at least 3 to 4 days or more old!!! Called the restaurant to let them know ,and the guy admitted the the food was old, but he said it doesn't taste bad because he made it himself. This person was very rude. Please please please if you read this review don't go there!!!! Waste of money !!!! Food is NASTY!!!!!

Yelp
There is a lot of competition for this type of cuisine in this area. Many of the places do some things really well, but I find them to be average or below in other areas. The first thing I notice about Al Sultan is I am always treated very well by all of their employees wether I get carry out or dine in. Whenever I walk in the door I am always greeted warmly and usually by multiple employees. Right off the bat it gives me the feeling they are happy I am spending my money there and they want to keep it that way. They have a lot of people I would consider to be young or just starting in the work force. The difference between them and most places is they never seem to prioritize cell phone use or personal conversations above taking care of me. They always have had my carry outs ready on or before the quoted times. The service when I dine in has always been attentive. For me the food is the main draw. In my opinion they serve my favorite hummus around. The garlic sauce is always on point. The fattoush is always great. These are some of the basics of the cuisine and not everyone does them as well. Most often I order a boneless chicken dinner or a sandwich. I have also enjoyed a few combo plates. The party trays are very good and convenient for having company as well. Prices are very fair. The building and the interior have a very basic dinner feel, but that has little impact on my experiences there.

Chris E.

Yelp
Watched them do 10+ NEW orders in front of mine while I stood their 40 minutes as they laughed and joked touching each other's hair then food with no gloves

Yelp
I've never actually dined in before at this place but do grab some carry out for lunch and dinner. This place doesn't seem like much on the outside, but their food is great! They're reasonably priced and have very generous plate sizes (or in my case, carry out box size) I always get their grilled chicken and rice with their signature sauce and Hummus. Very nice staff and always get the order right. I definitely recommend this place if you're craving some Good Arab food.
