Portland’s New California-Mexican Restaurant Impala Is Open on NW 27th | Eater Portland
"I found Impala, a new California Mexican bar in Northwest Portland that opened in the former Rae’s space, serving house-made taquitos, chili-cheese fries, and braised beef enchiladas. From the folks behind the Triple Lindy in the Pearl District and owner Mike Miller, it’s designed to showcase the Mexican American foods of Miller’s childhood—think five-layer dip and ground beef hard-shell tacos—while also offering vintage cantina classics like enchiladas, carne asada plates with rice and beans, and burritos with optional fillings such as grilled chicken or seasoned tofu. The cocktail program leans into Mid-90s skate culture: the Tony Hawk is a classic margarita, the Tommy Guerrero combines Vida mezcal with chocolate bitters and lime, and the bar offers shot-and-beer combinations named for skaters like Rodney Mullen and Lance Mountain. Brunch (Saturdays and Sundays, 9:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.) joins Portland’s breakfast-taco trend with an assortment of three breakfast tacos on flour tortillas (scrambled egg, pork verde, cheese, and hash browns), a “brunchwrap supreme” folding scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, and beans into a large flour tortilla, plus huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, and a French toast made with Texas toast soaked in orange, vanilla, and cinnamon custard." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
