Where to Eat Middle Eastern Food in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Aladdin’s award-winning menu has many delicious offerings, from shared mezze, and charcoal meat dishes, to wood-fired pizzas. The casual spot also serves authentic Turkish coffee and mint tea (perfect with a slice of knafeh) and is an excellent option for lunch (try a shawarma sandwich) or takeout." - Keri Bridgwater

I had ordered catering from Aladdin Cafe for a group of friends before, so I knew they were great. I wanted to take my wife here. We had an engagement right down the street so this was the perfect time. We had the grape leaves, hummus, tabouli and kifta plate. It was all great! We both agreed the hummus is among the best we’ve ever had. We prefer it to be tahini heavy (rather than garlic or spices) and this one is. It’s creamy and perfect. Beautifully presented! The tabouli was HUGE! I wish they had a half portion. It was too much for 2 of us. But absolutely delicious! The grape leaves were good, but nothing special. The kifta plate was excellent!! Wonderful ground beef mixture and just what one expects with this classic dish. Steamed vegetables and rice with a mousses on top were a perfect complement to the beef. Service was quick and efficient. Glad we went early as the neighborhood gem fills up quickly on a Friday night. 5 stars. We will return and try more of the extensive menu.

Perfect and relaxed! Kifta and hummus sandwich was delicious and hummus was so creamy. Lentil soup was also tasty and smooth

I ordered the cauliflower appetizer. The cauliflower was squishy, oily, and mushy. I was expecting it to be crisp for dipping Because it was breaded and fried, but there was no crispness at all. I also ordered the grilled shrimp with rosemary. There was no rosemary parsley was used, which I like as well but the shrimp was not grilled. They appeared to be pan seared and very salty. I also made the mistake of ordering the Greek salad and not putting the dressing on the side. The dressing made the lettuce soggy mushy and I just really didn’t enjoy the flavor either.

Mixed Experience at Alladin Cafe I recently visited Alladin Cafe, drawn in by its rave reviews and the promise of a delightful Mediterranean dining experience. Upon arrival, the cool and inviting ambiance immediately set a positive tone. The decor is chic and modern, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The meal began on a high note with a selection of appetizers that were truly exceptional. Each bite was bursting with flavor, leaving us eager for the main course. However, our enthusiasm waned when the main dishes and the salad arrived. To our surprise, they fell far short of expectations. The flavors were underwhelming, and the dishes lacked the deliciousness we anticipated. Service was another disappointment. Our waitress seemed preoccupied and inattentive. Despite requesting plates, they never arrived, which further dampened our dining experience. Overall, while the appetizers and ambiance were commendable, the main courses and service left much to be desired. It might have been an off day for the restaurant. Based on our experience, I would recommend visiting this place perhaps once, but with tempered expectations.

We had the chicken shawarma platter and lamb shank curry. Both were delicious.

Our second trip here was just as fantastic as the first. Everything we have tried has been fresh, tasty, and high-quality food. I especially loved the shawarma.

We found this restaurant on our way during our trip from Seattle to South Carolina. I was looking for gluten-free options on the menu and couldn't find any, which was the only thing that bothered me. But the food was fantastic. I ordered mushroom chicken and my husband had BBQ. The food came very hot and fresh.
