Alameda Food Bank

Went here for the 1st time today with my son. Great selection and amazing staff. I was worried my son would annoy the staff because he's autistic and really studies what foods he's willing to eat. Well he found a couple fruits that had mold on it and he asked a staff member what to do. Well the lovely gentleman told my son he could throw away any food he found molded. So sure enough each bin we stopped at he did just that if while he was looking he found one with mold he'd run off and toss it. I did redirect him to just worry about us but he was so excited to be being helpful. He then asked once we got home if there was a way for him to volunteer here. I had to let him know that him being 11 he probably can't volunteer here but he's welcomed to come with me when I visit. I'd like to thank the staff for being so kind and friendly especially to my son. As a mom to a special needs kid taking them anywhere can be scary especially new places and y'all just made my heart so warm with the interactions we had today. So again thank you and we look forward to seeing you next time 🫶🫶

As a first time customer @ this food pantry, the customer service received by volunteers and staff was truly impressive ! ☺️ Linda, who checked me in was friendly and kind! I'd like to give a special thanks to Richard ( the manager I believe ? ) Who went above and beyond to not only return my previous phone call but also greeted me once I arrived and explained how the Alameda food pantry worked as it's similar to a grocery store with shopping carts and you handpick the items you need depending on availability. Thanks to all volunteers and Richard , & MS.Patty! I most definitely will be back to shop again sometime soon ! 5 *'s for sure 😊

5 stars because of staff and the food but the public people just WOW! I don't know how people volunteer there. Rude customers need to be banned to ease the stress on these volunteers. Today for example one of the volunteers was stocking the fridge. Not one adult was patient and kept trying to go through the tapes. I had a baby in my arms and this rude lady was on top me so I yelled at her to give me space. Ridiculous that a baby had more patience than most of these adults. The stress level on the volunteers are probably through the roof. I wanted to volunteer but no thank. No rules at all for this kind of behavior.

Provides essential service to the community Staff is very helpful and almost entirely volunteer. Process for donors and recipients is well organized and virtually contactless. If you are picking up, be sure to enter Alameda Point from the gate on Main Street and follow the left side of the mall where the line queues up. Bring your driver's license or state Identity card which is used to insure you are not picking up more than once per week.

The car charging stations don't work because the food bank won't call the charging station company to register the stations.

Their very organized, no excessive long lines, and you can reserve a time to shop.. I always found some nice things in the refrigerated section..love the fruits and veggies

It's best to go early - by 12 is good. I am always impressed by the selection of produce - so fresh, not just what other stores don't want! Ample parking. Shopping carts inside. Best to bring your own bags. All the volunteers are eager to help. If you are in need, your visit will help you through the week.
