Viral Sandwich Shop Carla Cafe Opens a Permanent Location in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Returning to Los Angeles on March 9 in partnership with the Bruce Lee Foundation to celebrate the Lunar New Year, I’m looking forward to a night market featuring over 20 vendors (including the recently closed Pearl River Deli, Soban, and the Brothers Sushi), plus a mahjong arena, martial arts demonstrations, and more; tickets are available for purchase through MAMA’s website." - Rebecca Roland

⭐️ 0/10 — A COMPLETE HEALTH HAZARD ⭐️ I don’t even know where to begin with the DTLA Night Market, but let’s start with this: The health department should’ve been called a long time ago. First off, the sanitation? Absolutely unacceptable! I've been a customer for a long time, gotten close to many of the vendors, in my opinion, it appears that some vendors may not be following proper food-handling or permitting standards. I've driven by multiple nights recently, and noticed food, drinks and supplies are literally left out overnight, just sitting there collecting dust, bugs running all around and whatever else wandering by. I personally saw the alley behind the market is basically a rat freeway, with rodents running around like they own the place. Inside the market? From what I saw roaches scattering everywhere, from the filth that is left behind, totally unbothered because clearly, this is their permanent residence. After hearing their experiences, and me asking around about what is going on, turns out even the vendors themselves have said the new owner is ridiculous — money hungry, disorganized, unreasonable, lacks empathy, has no remorse and completely unbothered by any of the chaos happening on-site. Let’s talk about the vibe: it is DEAD. This market used to have life, energy, and crowds. Now? It's basically a ghost town with overpriced booths, and barely any foot traffic. No excitement, no atmosphere — nothing that makes the trip worth it. It's depressing because I've always loved coming here with my family but now, STAY AWAY! Add in the blaring loud music, cars revving like it’s an illegal street show, and people openly using weed and beer, and the whole environment becomes unsafe and absolutely NOT family-friendly. Especially the promotional content of barely dressed models gives desperate vibes. This isn’t a night market — this is a health code disaster with zero management and a dying crowd. It is SAD seeing some of the great vendors needing to endure such, in my view, a dehumanizing Owner, just to get by. Save yourself the time and the disappointment. HUGE RIP-OFF!!! DTLA Night Market is an absolute NO from me!

It’s really not how they put in the videos. The food is alright , the people are Super Friendly tho. Great Customer Service, but really will never be going back. Everyone has different opinions but in mine , there is way better night markets out there!

I had a great time here in the evening. The market had a fun mix of food vendors, music, and small local shops to explore. The atmosphere felt lively but still comfortable to walk around and enjoy. I tried a couple of food stalls and everything was tasty with friendly vendors. A nice place to spend a night out in DTLA.

Love the atmosphere at this location ! They have delicious sweets and great food ! You must try though the pastas from The Brothers Bistro 👌🏻 the way how they make their pastas literally reminds me of a restaurant I would go to in Malibu.

This place has a wide variety of different kinds of food stands and food for sale and many different items. Loud music. It feels like a carnival. It’s definitely a vibe. I recommend the Fat Wolf Baked Potato Tent. I like to bring my Doberman pinscher with to the night market. It’s definitely a vibe.

Friday to Sunday. Parking is $5 if you can find any. Pay cash or qr code. Street parking available. Plenty of vendors with lots of variety. From your sweets, aguas, coffe to your bbq, pork, pupusas, teriyaki and so much more. You can find something good here.

This is another night market that I've been meaning to go to and I've finally got the chance to experience the food! This time I started by trying out the tlayuda from Vicky's Quesadillas all of the ingredients are freshly made from the sauces to the meats all the way to the corn dough! The salsa verde was amazing! Spicy but not overpowering the flavors of the other ingredients. Did I mention the tortilla was hand made and had a filling of grounded beans on the inside! Overall I highly recommend Vicky's Quesadillas. Next I tried some asada and pastor tacos. I can't recall the name of the vendor but it is Puebla style tacos. The tortillas were fresh and handmade. The tacos were filled with a generous amount of guacamole sauce my favorite! They were pretty tasty with red and green salsa. They were also offering some fresh boiled beans on the side as well, perfect for the cold weather! Last but not least I tried out the freshly handmade empanadas over at Empanadas la Flor. I ordered the cheese and potatoes empanadas. The dough is hand pressed into the shape of an empanada and filled with cheese and potatoes then it is submerged into hot boiling oil to make a nice and crispy empanada! Then it is garnished with some lettuce, cheese and cream along with red salsa this elevates the flavor to where it's fresh and zesty on the outside followed by a light and crispy flavor from the outside shell of the empanada. Followed by a soft, chewy and doughy flavor as you eat through the center! Overall I highly recommend this spot if you're hungry for freshly made Mexican food. There's also other foods like funnel cakes, mini doughnuts, pastas, BBQ ribs, hibachi so there's plenty of dishes for everyone! Street parking on Main St is also free on Sundays!

This place has zero respect for anyone living nearby. They blast music every night, ignore every noise complaint, and act like the neighborhood doesn’t exist. Running a business is one thing, behaving like you own the whole block is another. Absolutely unbelievable. Seriously who even goes here?
