Texas-Based Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Chain to Expand to Boston Early 2023 - Eater Boston

"Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a wildly popular, Texas-based movie theater chain with three dozen locations, is opening a new location in the Seaport District of Boston, taking over the former ShowPlace Icon Theatre space on Seaport Boulevard. Known for offering full meals during screenings, a solid selection of beer and cocktails, and a strict no-tolerance code of conduct, this will be the company's first New England location. The new venue will have 10 screens, seating nearly 800 patrons. Additionally, it will include a separate full-service bar named the Press Room, decorated with vintage movie ad plates. The company's expansion comes after a period of restructuring following a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and leadership changes." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Love this place! Never been to an Alamo quite like this one. When I lived in Northern VA that I went to but it’s location isn’t as integrated with nice restaurants and definitely didn’t have the nice bar/restaurant and foyer that dramatically displays an imposing figure as you go up the escalator! My daughter and I were there to watch “How to Train your Dragon”. Theatre 9 was huge with all tiers of seats clear view to the giant screen. The. We were able to seat ourselves 30 me it’s before screening, the pre-shows were original and entertaining (visualize animated dinosaurs dancing to Latino music). There were large comfortable heated seats where you can choose the heat level. Each had a tray which has menu and drink list tucked away, a pen and note paper where you write your menu selection and a button for you to press for wait staff to come to read your order. We ordered popcorn with churros. Other variations were savory and sounded delicious , something for me to go back to, to try them all! The order came out quickly and it was really great with generous churro crumbles! And what’s great? For $13, it’s free refills!!

The best popcorn, ever! What a great place to watch a movie and eat some tasty food. Popcorn at the movies is a must for me - and they serve it in a big metal bowl butter well!! Wifey gets the same loaded French fries when we go. Did I mention they have heated seat!? Yes, heated seats for those who get cold in the theater. Service has always been prompt and kind. The pre show clips gave me laughing out loud every time!!

This was my first time going to the Alamo, and overall, the experience was great! The atmosphere feels a bit fancy in a fun way, and the seats are super comfortable. The service was also very good, everyone was friendly and helpful. The only hiccup was that my pizza and drink were forgotten at first. It seemed like they were pretty busy, but they apologized for the delay, which I appreciated. I’ll definitely give it another try I’m sure next time will be even better!

I wanted to love Alamo Drafthouse Seaport, but this experience was an absolute disaster. This was my first visit, and unfortunately, it will be my last. I came excited to enjoy the movie + dine-in concept, but what I got was terrible service, a mystery $6 charge, and a complete lack of accountability. I waited 20 minutes for butter after asking my server twice. It never came. The service was so poor I left the movie early, disappointed and irritated. Then, today, I noticed a $6 tip charged to my card—which I did not authorize. No check was ever brought to me. No tip screen. No signature. Nothing. When I called, I was told that Alamo auto-charges a 20% tip for all “unsigned checks”—but I never got a check. How can you claim “policy” when a guest wasn’t even given the basic courtesy of reviewing their bill? I was then told the policy is listed on the menu… because of course, everyone reads fine print at a movie theater. This is not just bad service—it’s shady business. A guest leaving early due to poor service should not be punished with a silent charge. This is how you lose trust. And loyal customers. Until this policy is fixed and staff are properly trained, I strongly advise others to think twice before spending money here. You’re better off at a standard cinema or literally any restaurant with integrity.

I had a great experience at Alamo Drafthouse today. It was my first time visiting. The lobby was clean and easy to navigate. The staff were friendly and pointed out which theater I would be in. The chairs in theater 6 are excellent. The leather is not ripped, and they do recline a bit. I did not see any mice and the room was clean when I arrived. The ordering process was easy. My server took my order during the 30 minute pre-show and My food came out quickly. I ordered fried pickles, water, and a cookie shake. The fried pickles were thick spears served with ranch dressing. The cookie shake was thick with cookie pieces big enough to chew. I love the concept of people being expected to be quiet during the film. I went on a Sunday afternoon at 12:15.

As someone who has gone to the afternoon showings and the late night showings, it definitely seems like they prioritize the experience of the people going to the earlier/afternoon showings, as opposed to the late night showings. When you go in the morning, staff come by more frequently, And the kitchen will stay open until about 15 to 30 minutes before the end of your movie. I went to 2 of the late night showings, one at 10 PM and one at 10:30 PM. Both times when I went, they called last call 30 minutes in, even when the movie had an hour or an hour and 30 minutes of runtime left. It’s also a case where the staff will come in once to Hear your order, once To give you your food, and then once to tell you last call. Versus in the morning/Afternoon showings you can order up until about 15 to 30 minutes before the end of the movie. The staff comes in more frequently and It feels like you can really get the most out of your experience. Which makes you wonder, what’s the point of paying for their unlimited refills options (non-alcoholic drinks, popcorn, etc) at night when in practice, you can really only get one. It seems like, Despite the late night shows, they close the kitchen early. And it’s not like they tell you this before you sit down/order. So you feel extra cheated. What’s the point of having late night shows if you don’t wanna keep the kitchen open after a certain amount of time. The thing that makes Alamo, Alamo is that you can eat a meal during and throughout your movie. They should keep the kitchen open later or if they don’t want to do that, Just don’t have the late night showings at all.

Google
Seems like it was going to be a great experience but the chairs don't recline well and so your head is forced in a forward position which is so uncomfortable that it made it hard to enjoy the movie. I couldn't stop fidgeting trying to get comfortable. It was a lost cause. Also, it was way too loud.

Google
I watched Disney's Ellio in theater 10 and unfortunately a mouse came out in the middle of the movie and scared my kids and caused them to spill their popcorn. The site told us that there are no ads before the movie but there were ads for 20 minutes as well. There was an annoying man in the back eating and belching very loudly and annoyingly. Why am I writing all this so that you know that he is not worth the trouble. Any other cinema does the job, especially with the presence of a mouse. My kids and I stopped eating our snacks and you ruined my surprise for them.

Yelp
First time at this Alamo cinema in Seaport! Nice theater, has 10 screens with good capacity in each one - was 94 seats in theater 7 that we were in. Also has dine-in service inside with menus at your seats and they come take your order and bring you food to your seats. Although we ate before coming so didn't use the service. Watched Sonic the hedgehog 3 movie here. Comfortable seats with recliners. Good screen size, visuals and sound quality. The theater has an outer bar/restaurant area as well and they normally serve food there too but today likely being a semi holiday for Christmas Eve didn't have that. The decor is very nice, cool art on the walls, movie posters. A giant replica of the Iron giant is at the head of the escalators looks great when you walk in! Fun to check it out! Service was friendly and efficient. Overall nice experience!

Yelp
This could have been a better experience. The place is cool, but the service is bad. I usually don't trust the food or drink when I experience nasty service. The theater was clean. The food was good. Terrible service. Nasty attitude for no reason at all. Then, forgot our order so we went through most of the movie, hungry.
google avatar

Yelp
The service was terrible. Not so friendly. Forgot my food. When I was asked if I wanted anything else halfway through the movie, I let them know my order was never brought out to me. No apologies, nothing. The theater is nice. It's clean. The chicken was good. Bad service, tho.

Yelp
Fun day out at the movies in Boston's seaport. Matinee was reasonable at $11 for reserved seating. Adjustable Seats were super comfy with table-side waitress service. We had tasty burgers and chicken for lunch with warm chocolate cookies for snack. The building has bowling and darts so plenty to do to make a day of it. Shopping Or restaurants steps away. Will definitely go back.

Yelp
We went to see the movie Twister . Walking in you just take the elevator up . You are greeted with a friendly salutation as you enter . The ambiance is very friendly and welcoming . The parking is tough but we found meter parking close . I ordered a burger . It came with fries and it was delicious . The price was reasonable. The food tasted fresh as well . My husband ordered the chicken wings he said they were great . The price is not bad . To drink we ordered a Diet Coke & Coke this had unlimited refills . For dessert we split a strawberry milkshake it was delicious. I really enjoyed my experience here . I hope you do as well !

Yelp
The good: This place is definitely more geared towards movie lovers. The pre show videos are highly entertaining, the food & drink options is better than any theatre I have been too & often include some sort of movie theme adding a fun twist. The hallways are unique & play homage to the press room it used to be in another life. Most theatres have a problem with talking patrons or people looking at their phone but their zero tolerance policy works. The sound was out of this world good for a digital theatre. The seats also recline & are heated. The bad: the Iron Giant takes place in Maine, surely they could have come up with a Boston centric movie plot for the lobby. The seats are certainly not new. Does that affect the comfort? No, not really but it doesn't look the best for a new theatre. There are waiters that walk around taking silent order & delivering food & drinks. This could also be a good thing depending on what you want. The screen is pretty standard but could be better. Lastly, The Seaport is probably the worst place in Boston I could think of for a movie theatre but I hope it works out for them. This is a place for you if you want the movie you're seeing to be more like an event & fun time.

Yelp
My expectations for this place were pretty high thanks to Alamo Drafthouaes rep and the relative new building the theatre is in. Getting to thr theatre is confusing because it's up three levels through the front of a couple restaurants on the way. The I got to the theatre seats were all really tattered (see pic), and don't recline that far back . The tray tables also make things a little Claustrophobic While I appreciate decent food, eating in a darkened theatre is very difficult and potentially messy. And the servers walking around are distracting. Chicken tenders and fries were good though. I was in a Tuesday evening show with maybe 10 people - I can't imagine how chaotic it would be with a full house. Unequivocal no talking no texting rules are clearly out and seem very strict which I love

Yelp
My expectations for this theater were set pretty high thanks to Showplace Icon (the theater before) but admittedly, I was not impressed. Regardless, I will still be back because for me the pros outweigh the cons. Pros: super friendly staff (a little bit of water feel onto our friend's popcorn and they brought out a new one), good food and drinks (a couple vegan options too), and interesting showings Cons: the theater was not as clean as I expected (understand may be short on staff and it was late), the bathroom was a complete mess (they share the bathroom with Grace by Nia, so lots of foot traffic), seats don't recline and seemed really tattered (see pic), and while I appreciate the servers walking around to say last call-it was distracting. I want to come back during the day to give this place another shot. The vibes are cool and everyone was so friendly. Owners should consider getting upgraded chairs to really enhance the experience.

Yelp
Went here last night for the advanced screening of Back to Black, the Amy Winehouse biopic. It was a fantastic show and they even hooked us up with free popcorn and drinks as well as a special private performance by amazing vocalist, Nicole Michelle. The servers were attentive and friendly and really made our experience very special. I had some fried pickle spears as a snack as well as an espresso martini and ranch water. The waiters do a fantastic job of helping patrons put in their orders without disturbing the other moviegoers. In terms of the actual theater itself, I like how the reclining seats are far enough apart that you don't have to worry about people behind you accidentally kicking you or vice versa. I like the vintage movie posters that line the walls as well as the full service bar by the entrance. Overall, I would definitely come to see a movie here again!

Yelp
I've been to the Alamo Drafthouse in LA multiple times with great experiences, so I expected the same from this location. Sadly I was mistaken. Here's what went wrong (it's a pretty long list). 1) Our movie started at 830, and the ticket said we could arrive at 8 to be seated and order food before the movie. No one was allowed into the theater until 815. 2) The waiter didn't come to our seat until 825. 3) At 845, we finally got our drinks. We'd also ordered chicken tenders and fries, which didn't show up. Every other person in the theater got their food. We never were going to get ours. 4) We had to ask three different times, and two different people, to finally get our food. We didn't get it until 915. If we hadn't kept asking, it never would have come. FYI, we could have skipped the food altogether. It tasted terrible. 5) We got charged for popcorn that we never ordered. There wasn't even anyone to talk to in order to rectify this. It was from a different person in our party who used a different credit card for his order (we never even ate his popcorn) so he had to Venmo me. 6) After we got our food, two different waiters came to our seats trying to drop off food and drinks we didn't order. This happened almost 20 minutes after getting our food and again with like 20 minutes left in the movie. Why?? 7) The sound was pretty lacking. It definitely was not as loud as it should be or as surround as it could be. The one in Los Angeles is much better. The only good part about this theater is the heated seats. Otherwise, I'm not impressed.

Yelp
Met up with some professional colleagues for a networking event here. They used the bar area very effectively for mingling. Bartenders were friendly and attentive. I asked to try a hard cider before ordering- the sample was a heavy pour - not a tiny sip. Bar bites food was average- nothing memorable other than the popcorn. Good place to check out for a private happy hour gathering.

Yelp
Alamo got bought out by Sony and immediately had layoffs. Cancelled my season pass. It was nice while it lasted, but behaving that way has a noticeable impact on both their employees lives and the product they're selling.

Yelp
Personally I did not have a good experience here but I know others who did have good experiences! Went here to see challengers, and the theater it was playing in had really scratched up seats on the seat bottom and back and dirty seats. There was a bunch of popcorn and other food remnants in our seats and on the floor from whoever sat there for the previous movie. Food was typical for theater food, really liked the truffle popcorn though!
google avatar

Neha D.

Yelp
3.5 stars - Fun movie going experience! Our movie tickets were about $13 after the fees which we bought online. Menu has a variety of drink options and food including bottomless popcorn. At times the servers running around in the theatre got distracting and food can take about 20-25 minutes to arrive. You can put your feet up but seats didn't fully recline (not sure if it was just ours since we sat in the back row)
google avatar

Yelp
If you're a movie lover like me this is a lovely experience, the service was friendly, the seats reclined( and are heated) and they validate parking!

Yelp
First time at this location! I've only visited their Texas locations prior. The staff were very attentive and efficient. We got the chicken tenders and chicken sandwich, along with lemonade and loaded fries. Everything was good, however the popcorn seemed to lack the classic butter and salt amount that you would get at a normal theater. I've noticed this at the TX locations, too though so not a big deal! The tenders tasted a little off to me, but the chicken sandwich and other food was great. I attempted to order a pitcher of water, as to not bother the staff with refilling everyone's water again and again but was told that was not possible. Altogether a great experience. Thanks guys!
google avatar

Gabi A.

Yelp
One word!! MICE!! There were mice running up and down the whole movie. The only reason I didn't give this place one star is because the staff was great but I would NEVER come back here again. I was freaking out the whole time!

Matt B.

Yelp
Terrible service. Rude and very slow. Snapped at us for turning off our phones at beginning of the movie. Took over an hour to get soft drinks, popcorn, and a pretzel. Servers mixed up drinks and when we asked for the right ones, there was no urgency to fix the problem. They also were out of certain house specialties on the menu. Parking lot that they validate was a 15 minute walk from the theater. There's no mention of this distance on their website. Seats don't recline even though the website says they do. Super disappointing experience especially since I had heard good things. Will not be coming back.

Yelp
Came to try the order food to your seat movie theater! I highly recommend coming 20-30 mins early so you can get settled in and order what you need. Prices are reasonable but unfortunately, my button didn't work so well so took me awhile to get the order I want and the refill on my popcorn. Wish service was a little bit faster so I wasn't as distracted by trying to get food vs. watching the movie.
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
Very nice theatre with all the features you should expect from an Alamo - good food, drinks, cool movies (new and old), special intros to movies based on director. I saw The Zone of Interest (2023) and it featured all the music videos the director filmed prior. I had a Philly cheesesteak sandwich, chips w queso and vegan chocolate chip cookies. Id probably get a different main meal (burger or pizza?) but rest were good. Will be back forsure.
google avatar

Brooke C.

Yelp
I saw mean girls movie musical here. I attended the "sing a long movie party" and was surprised that the event included little gifts! Nobody sang along (thankfully) but the vibes were good. I got the raspberry cocktail which was delicious and the Margherita pizza which was okay. The service to our seats was a rocky. I don't think the service button on my boyfriend's seat was working, we waited almost 30 minutes for our order card to be picked up. The waiter only came when the button on my seat was pressed. I hope they work through these links because everything was otherwise great!
google avatar

Peggy C.

Yelp
They charged me $180.16 which was definitely not what I ordered and not the receipt that I signed. I called multiple times over the past two weeks and they kept saying that someone will call me back but they never did. $180 is not a small amount. I don't understand how a business can straight up steal money like this. If it were an honest mistake then the least you can do is fix the mistake. Instead I'm being lied to over and over again each time I call.

Yelp
A nice departure from the familiar vibe of old and new movie going experiences. Customer service is above and beyond any other theater chain I've been too. The branding is subtlety retro, but also innovative from a user experience perspective. The food and drink options were also better than other theaters and they serve you right to the seat, including beer/wine/alcohol. AND the service was on point. My only complain is I'd say the theatre we were in (#5), had a bit of a funky layout. The screen either felt a bit too far away or too close. The handicap row, which was empty during our show, seemed to be the only sweet spot distance from the screen. I'm not sure about the layout in other rooms, but its almost like the screen needed to be bigger/wider for the seat configuration to truly work for the majority of the rows.

Yelp
Last Saturday I visited the theatre to see the latest Dead pool and Woverline movie, I've been to this theatre several times and have not had any problem. The theatre is kept clean but someone of the recliner look worn and need to be replaced. This time I was disappointed with the food, I ordered the Chicken fingers and sweet tea. The chicken fingers sounded awesome what was described on the menu, when I received the item it was whole different story. The chicken and fries were cold like it being sitting out for a while waiting for someone to pick it up, the chicken was chewy and not moist, the fries were okay over salted. This is not worth the 16.00 I paid for, I have written a complaint to the business but yet to hear back from them. I expected this type of food from AMC Boston 19 not from Alamo that pry it self on services

Yelp
This place recently opened in the Seaport and I went to see Saltburn here a week ago. I went at 7ish and my ticket was 14.99 but if you go at the 4:30pm showing it's only 10.99 which is a good price. It's a great location and they have recliner seats but unfortunately the back does not recline, just the legs do, so it was not as comfortable compared to your standard reclining movie theater chair. It also has seat warmers but in my chair the medium setting didn't work and the warmer was very concentrated so every time I'd put it on it was way too hot on my butt after a few minutes and I'd have to turn it off. You are able to order food and drinks to your seat here which is quite nice but it's not virtual ordering-- someone comes to your seat to take your order so there was a lot of scurrying in and out throughout the movie. I prefer theaters where you can order online and so people only come in to drop off the food and it's less of an ordeal while watching the movie. The drinks were reasonably priced. I would go again if I wanted to see a movie at 4:30pm and was in the area.

Yelp
New favorite theater! Visited for an evening showing during opening week. The full service was on point. There's a call light on the theater seat for food and drink orders. The server also goes around for last call. The food exceeded my expectations. I had the chicken club, fries and, a Downeast Cider. The chicken club was perfect, highly recommend! Great vibe, will definitely go back.

Yelp
We attended a showing for "Iron Giant" during one of the training days. I am local to Seaport and have been waiting for this place to open. This is my first time at an Alamo Drafthouse. I'll definitely go back again. There were some quirks, probably due to training of staff. There were also some things that I just didn't like. Great experience overall, not as good as Showcase Superlux but given the location this will be our cinema of choice. Stand-out points: - I love the nod to classic cinema at the press bar and at the theatre before the showing begins. - Movie selections are great here, a mix of old and new. Enough to make me want to get the monthly pass. - Screen audio and visuals were quality. - Staff are friendly overall. - Food quality was "fine" (it's a cinema) The not-so-great: - Seat backs don't recline but the legs do extend, this was kind of weird. - The ordering system is paper-based which feels clumsy during the movie. I feel sorry for the staff having to translate paper tickets onto an iPad in the corner for ordering. Why not just make this app based? - Similarly, there is a "last call" where staff come up to you during the movie to let you know it's your last chance to order. They'll also come by to give you the check, and then again to cash you out. We didn't get our credit card back until after the movie was finished so we had to sit around a bit. Totally empathetic to training and didn't mind at all but beyond that I am not a fan of the ordering system. It's like taking the worst parts of restaurant dining and adding it on to the cinema experience. - I thought enjoying a meal while I watch a movie would be great. I had chicken wings and fries. In reality I couldn't really see what I was eating and that made it a bit weird for me. In the future I'll probably stick to popcorn. The bad: - ordered two old fashioned's - one at press bar and one from the cinema menu. Both were garbage. From the chipped ice to the weak overly sweet taste - total let down. Next time I'll stick to wine or beer. Alamo was a good time overall though and I'm sure some of these will be ironed out. My suggestions to management would be improve the cocktail quality. My advice for drafthouse corporate - please add in-app ordering!

Yelp
Honestly it was a mess from when we showed up. Our food took almost 40 minutes to arrive (we got a pretzel and loaded fries) and at that time it was last call. The server asked if we needed anything else - we haven't even finished our drinks or started eating, how could we decide anything? Everything was also ice cold. The seats barely recline and stop at an odd angle so it's not even very comfortable. When it was time to leave our server was nowhere to be found, the bar couldn't help, and we finally tracked down someone who said they just automatically charge the card on file and we sign, which was not explained. Also, there's no parking validation so it's $42 to park (and that was a separate nightmare - park elsewhere, NOT at One Seaport).

Yelp
What an amazing movie experience. 10/10 recommend! I can't wait to come back!! Can't say anything negative!!

Yelp
It's brand new, so it's hard to rate is so highly based on cleanliness, but it's really nice to go to a clean theater. However, what I really liked was the method of ordering food. You write your order on a piece of paper and press a button to alert the staff. This meant I wasn't being bothered when I didn't want to be, and was able to order when I wanted to. Also by writing it down instead of saying it out loud, it didn't disrupt the movie or others. The seats were comfortable, I wish they reclined, but not a deal breaker. This will definitely be my #1 choice to see movies at. I hope they maintain the level of cleanliness for a long time.

Zidane F.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the "validated" parking. Not only is the parking lot further away, there is a tone of fine print. There is no offset during prime viewing times. Meaning, you will have a shockingly massive parking bill waiting for you after your boring movie. Corporate scam.

Yelp
I attended the opening night "party" for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice." I got an email asking what I thought of the theater. 1) The theater is great, but it's not convenient to get to. 2) The staff were nice, but not very good at getting your order to you quickly. 3) One person, Nigel, was very helpful when my friend and I were supposed to get the Beetlejuice popcorn buckets, but we were told they were sold out. I made a point of telling Nigel when we arrived and he said he would get them for me. After a long wait, I was told by another person they were all gone, when I saw other staff bringing multiples out to other people. Nigel and I spoke to someone who he said was the manager and this guy pretty much yelled at him and other staff members. It was a weird moment. I did finally get buckets for my friend and I, but it was a very confusing and frustrating moment. 4) The staff seemed to be having a rough night. It felt like the theater had just opened because the staff didn't appear practiced enough at their jobs. It took a long time to get our orders and they brought one appetizer twice which I had to get removed from my bill. 5) The movie "party" hostess was nice and did her best to be "entertaining", but this event, as advertised, didn't live up to the supposed hype from the advertising. This "party" cost me an additional $10 for an event fee, but it wasn't much of an event. I've been to two Alamo theaters in Austin and one in lower Manhattan where everything went perfectly. This was the worst experience I've had in an Alamo.

This was my first experience at an Alamo Drafthouse and it definitely won't be my last! I visited on a Tuesday evening and it wasn't too crowded (the theater was about half full). Since we arrived about 20 mins before our movie started, one of the servers introduced herself and told us how everything worked. We were able to place our food orders before the movie started and it arrived a few minutes into the movie. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich, which honestly tasted really great. It was a bit strange eating dinner in the dark, but it was all delicious so I can't complain. I also really loved how comfy the seats were.. not only did they recline but they had a heated seat option! The only real area of improvement I think they could have is simplifying the payment process. Our server had to come over to our seats about 45 mins before the movie ended and asked us for a credit card.. a process that was slightly distracting and meant I missed a bit of the movie. Still, it's obvious that the staff are learning and improving, and Alamo is a really friendly, luxurious movie theater experience if you don't mind paying a slight premium.

Yelp
I don't usually write Yelp reviews but I theoretically really like Alamo, especially it's strict "no being an asshole during the movie" policy. But good god are the seats in this theater terrible. And not just because they upholstery is already wearing away. Mostly because they DO NOT RECLINE! How does a new 2020s theater have seats that don't recline? It was really pretty uncomfortable watching a movie in them compared to essentially any other theater in Boston. Please replace these seats, Alamo, and I'll see all my movies at your house. Thanks!

Yelp
Great first time at Alamo Drafthouse! We wanted Dune 2 at a Saturday afternoon 4pm showtime and found the tickets to be very affordable. When we arrived, a server assigned to our row explained how to order (pressing a button at your seat and writing your order on a card for the server to take). Overall a very easy system, with orders being taken from 30 mins before the show to 45 minutes before it ends. The menu is extensive with various food and drink items, but we just stuck to bottomless popcorn and Coke Zero for this day. The seats also recline and are heated. Excited to have discovered this spot- will be back!

Yelp
Mice running all over the theater! Super hard to relax and enjoy a movie you paid a lot when you're on edge because of mice running up and down the aisles. So gross!!!!!

Yelp
Great theater, really nice set up. I've been to Alamo Drafthouse locations in Texas previously and they do a great job. The food is good (it's a little pricey, but if you're complaining about that in the Boston Seaport, a neighborhood entirely created from nothing in 12 years, GET A LIFE) and they have drinks, you can get refills on soda, the staff is friendly, the audio and screens are great. Maybe the only slight complaint is that the chairs don't fully recline like AMC chairs (and they are a little worn in some areas, due to this previously being a different cinema chain). If you're complaining about the no talking or no phone rules, also, GET A LIFE. And if you are complaining about parking? GET A BIKE.

Yelp
Awesome concept. Poor execution. A fairly new theater and the seats are worn out and they don't recline? Also, the food was close to atrocious. Ordered a pizza and it was disgusting. The staff got all the orders wrong. And we were asked...did you order this? Maybe write the seat number down. This is not difficult. There is no parking unless you want to fork out $40-60 for the building parking. I have plenty of ideas to get this place going in the right direction. Hit me up for a consultation.

Yelp
They had to figure out somethings at first, but now they are the best movie experience Boston has to offer. (outside of jordans furniture in reading) Great food (this place has the best popcorn), great service, and a really great atmosphere.

Yelp
Was thrilled when Alamo arrived in Boston. Probably went at least 15 times between November and April. The service has always been solid-to-great considering the level of difficulty. Film selection is excellent (the only theater in Boston to show the new Radu Jude)! Ace sound and projection. Love the cleverly curated preshows. So what if the worn seats are left over from the old Icon, and the boozy milkshake machine is always on the fritz? And then...the mice showed up. After the first time, I politely DMed the theater to no response. After the second, I reported the issue to an employee who shrugged and said, "We bring it up all the time. Management says there's nothing they can do." In that case, I'm left with no choice but to warn other moviegoers. A shame--this place was great to have for about four months.

Yelp
Asked 3 times for a cocktail. Once when i ordered my food during previews. Another on a card halfway through the movie that a team member picked up 30 mins after hitting the button. Then I asked again on another card 20 mins before the movie ended. The drink never came but it was on the bill. My wife didnt get her meal until beyond halfway through the movie, about an hour and 20 minutes in, and didnt get her wine until near the end of the movie. Terrible experience, and i still dont understand that if the kitchen was behind, why it was such a challenge to get drinks for us. The guy next to me ordered a popcorn that never came. Do not go to alamo even when a theatre is 3 quarters capacity. They dont staff it appropriately, and theres a serious issue with communication. Sucks to have to write this on christmas, especially when my first trip to this alamo a while back was such an enjoyable one. Dont know what's happening to this place lately.

Yelp
We had a nice evening out as a family. The space is brand spanking new and has a really cozy vibe. Armchairs are luxuriously comfortable, equipped with motorized leg lifts and seat warmers. The dinner trays pivot towards the seat, but we found them a bit too close when we pulled them to the max position. The menus, order cards, and pens are neatly tucked into the dinner tray contraption, and there's a light on the arm (to help you read the menu etc). However, I did wish there was also a reading light that shone onto the tray itself, as it was almost too dark to see what you were eating. Utensils (knives in particular) become a bit redundant when you can't see what you're cutting, and the rectangular plastic plates slide a bit too easily when you're trying to cut into something bulky (we were trying to split a sandwich, and cut into the fish and chips) - wish there was a lip on one side of the dinner tray to prevent plates from sliding. I'd suggest only ordering finger foods or things that come in bite-sized pieces for this reason. Food is okay, typical bar fare; we didn't try any of the adult beverages. The Hellfire Burger was actually quite good though, the Philly cheesesteak too, and the chocolate chip cookies did arrive warm- so those were pluses. The fish and chips was so-so. Service was great; our server was very nice- explained the ordering system, replaced a fountain soda we ordered (it had came sans syrup), and they come round with last call signs 3/4 of the way into the movie. Food came out quick. All in all, a great experience. Next time I might just do a cocktail and apps/snacks, instead of trying to fit in a full dinner here.

Yelp
I've been to Alamo's before in NY and this is by far my favorite. There were some hiccups along the way in regards to seating but the staff handled it very well. Cody (I believe his name is) was quick to solving the issue & ensuring everyone had a great movie experience. Our waiter JT (I believe is his name) was also very kind & quick with service. The people working at the counter by the entrance were also extremely happy & helpful (didn't catch their names unfortunately), even going as far as to looking for movie memorabilia to give us! Comfortable seats (that both recline & are heated), nice & friendly staff, wonderful environment, decent food; the list goes on. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the Boston area! 5/5 from me!

Yelp
Are you serious that the seats don't recline? Also what's with this condition in a brand new theater?

Yelp
They still have some service kinks to work out but in seat dining is pretty cool. Wish seats reclined

Yelp
This place was... a mess. I went with a friend last night to see Wicked, it was both of our first times at this movie theater. My friend picked it specifically because she had read good reviews. Our movie was starting at 7:15, so we arrived at about 6:30 to get a light bite and drinks first (we both hadn't eaten dinner and were starving). First, we tried to get a bite at a bar on the second floor (I don't remember the name but it was attached to the bowling alley). We sat at the bar for 10 minutes and nobody ever came to take our order even though it wasn't busy (there were 4 other people besides us sitting at the bar). We decided to leave since we were starving and go order upstairs at the theater. When we got upstairs to the theater we were informed that "due to unforseen circumstances" the kitchen had just closed for the night and the only thing available was popcorn, candy, and drinks. We said fine, we'll order some popcorn, and then we were informed that we couldn't order popcorn at the front and could ONLY place our orders INSIDE the theater at our seats. I thought it was odd that we couldn't just order popcorn ourselves at the front, but, fine. We get to our seats, write down our order, press the button, and wait. And wait, and wait, and wait. After 10 minutes or so of waiting, my friend went to go find somebody. She was told somebody would come take our order shortly. We wait another 10 minutes. Someone finally comes to take our order. We ordered one popcorn, 2 cocktails, one bottle of wine, and 2 waters. It took 30 minutes to finally get our popcorn. But no drinks. After 45 minutes I had to get up and leave the movie to go find a manager. We had popcorn and nothing to drink, not even water, and had ordered 45 minutes ago. The manager was not apologetic in the slightest. He asked "do you still want your drinks or do you want me to take it off the bill". I said we still wanted our drinks. 5 minutes later, bottle of wine comes, but no water or cocktails. An HOUR AND A HALF after we ordered, the waters come, still no cocktails. 2 HOURS after we ordered, the cocktails came. We sat down in our seats to order at 6:45, and it was about 8:20 before we finally had everything we ordered. The movie was almost over by then. The cocktails were completely watery at that point, so not sure if they had been sitting at the service bar for an hour and a half just waiting for our server to run them, or they were just poorly made. Waiting 2 hours for a cocktail is ridiculous. Nobody ever apologized, the manager never checked in on us again or took anything off the bill. We felt bad for our server so still left him a tip, but I doubt I will ever come back here again.

Yelp
Went out for a nice movie night, ordered food and drink, looked over in the aisle during the show and there was a parade of mice running through the theatre. They were *very* comfortable with people, which says the infestation is deep. When I mentioned this to staff, I got a laugh and an "oh, we're working on it.", which tells me it's not really being addressed all that seriously. Gross!

Yelp
The concept of having food brought to you is fun! However the service is bad. We waited for over 20 minutes to get our popcorn and drink as we watched people who arrived after us get all of their orders.

Yelp
I have been waiting a long time for Alamo to come to Boston. It does not dissapoint. The presentation of the film and sound is first rate. The seats are comfortable. The food and drink are above average in this enviroment. I like the pre show alot. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I love the rules of the cinema about cell phones and talking. This place is for real movie lovers. I would go more often but the parking is terrible in the water front area. I wish the street meters in that area were more than 2 hours. Alamo does have discounted parking in a hotel 15 minutes walk away. It's 3 hours for 11 dollars. To sum it up: movie presentation, sound and decor: A, staff : A, Food: B, Drinks: A ..Location: this one is hard for me.. great location, yet stressful parking..I had a great time..
