The Best Coffee Bars in Los Angeles, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"Alana’s Coffee Roasters is a solid cafe because it sources excellent beans and a vast selection of loose-leaf teas. Head to West Hollywood or Mar Vista to enjoy a chipotle mocha and Nutella croissant with outdoor seating at both locations. The shaded back patio at the Mar Vista location, in particular, is a favorite of the Westside creative class, who spend languid afternoons writing and sipping on its mismatched chairs and couches." - Mona Holmes

Great place to come and chill or do some work. I had a latte and a breakfast sandwich everything was delicious! I came in by myself and the environment felt like a community that I didn’t even felt alone. Will definitely come back.

Just stopped in for a coffee. Great service and loved the pictures of doggies on the wall. The Latte was very tasty!

Google
Truly, one of the best coffee shops in LA. I always get the vanilla latte and it’s perfect every single time. They also have delicious pastries… My favorites are the tomato and mushroom Savory ones. Service is always super friendly and quick. It’s my favorite place. A nice bonus is I always see cute pups there.

Google
I really love this location of Alana’s, the service was so friendly and the drinks were delicious. I was so thankful they had plenty of gluten free pastry options. I tried the GF coffee cake and we also tried a mushroom and cheese croissant. Both were great! The atmosphere is one you can work in or chat with a friend in. There’s a plethora of plants and natural lighting making it a bright and cozy hangout with a variety of seating.

I love Alana's! They're the best coffee shop in the neighborhood. The staff is friendly & fast, and the quality of their drinks & food is worth the spend (far cheaper than others in the area).

Google
Amazing experience with the coffee that I ordered ☕️ (hot latte with oat-milk) and the environment (color, plants and much more plants 🪴 🌱 ). I had ordered a vegan pizza and a cake piece 🍰 (coffe flavored) as well. The pizza is wonderful taste with fresh roasted mini tomatoes, and I had never saw the pizza as a puff pastry dough 🥐 so good 😋, that makes the edge crust unbelievable flavorful and delicious. I tell recommend that place and the pizza 😁and of course any caffe as well 🙌🏼

Yelp
Had a 10/10 experience here on a Sunday afternoon. Parking was easy - there were 3 street spots when I arrived, and plenty more were regularly opening up. I was welcomed by two very kind baristas, and I ordered a their Maple drink. It was balanced, tasty, and didn't have an overwhelming sweetness or spiciness. I also enjoyed their vegan pumpkin muffin. The space is cute and welcoming. I spent 3 hours here reading, drinking coffee, and enjoying my muffin. At one point I stopped to ask about their decaf beans, and the team couldn't stop gushing about how tasty they were and how unique they are. I bought some to enjoy at home (brewed this morning, they are delish!). I really enjoyed my time here. I would absolutely go back!

Yelp
Adorable coffee shop on Robertson Blvd, the vibe inside and mellow and relaxing could picture myself here on a quiet morning. On the Saturday we stopped by a steady stream of customers but the service moved pretty quickly. We opted to sit and enjoy inside - there's a handful of seats, most customers were order to go. I tried the Matcha Chai Latte, I enjoyed it knowing Alana's speciality is coffee and I of course had to be difficult! We couldn't say no to the pastries though and tried out the mushroom cheese and nutella croissant. I was on the fence ordering the mushroom as i am not a huge fan but was so delighted to enjoy it the balance of the two together was the perfect combo. The Nutella croissant - was so beautiful that i didn't want to actually eat it, don't worry, i did and boy was it good - you have to take several bites to get into the "good stuff" aka the nutella filling. Loved trying the savory and then sweet croissant together! Perfect decision! Parking is on the street but we had no problem finding a spot, imagine later in the day would be a little tricky but plenty of side streets so really won't be a problem!

Yelp
Cute coffee shop on Robertson Boulevard in West Hollywood. In the winter, I drink their "Calm" hot tea with honey. In the warmer months, I drink their "Pacific Coast" herb iced tea. All of their teas are loose. They have a good selection of decaffeinated teas. I don't drink coffee, but my friends say their selection is good for a small local shop. They love the taste and like that Alana's roast their own beans. Nice selection of pastries, which go quickly on busy days. They have breakfast sandwiches, but not on the weekends. Bummer. Saturday and Sunday's are usually busy. Dog friendly with treats, too. Small sitting area in the front with a community table in the back. There's also a small patio with a handful of tables, and plants. Service is best when DiDi, Nathan, Megan, and Moth are there. They are very kind and helpful. They understand what kindness means.

Yelp
Came here today on Memorial Day Monday and had a really great experience! I got an iced vanilla latte and a warmed up chocolate croissant. Both were yummy! The coffee tasted high quality and fresh, and the small was a decent portion. The espresso was just great quality, as was the oat milk and vanilla syrup! Oh goodness, my partner changed his drink from hot to iced at the last second--literally right before they made it (ahh!)--and the staff was super kind about it. They didn't make a big deal at all and just made the iced version for him. I really appreciated that because oh jeez, I would be too mortified to ask if I had changed my mind like that haha. Anyway, this coffee shop is very homey and feels like a nice community spot! Good for studying, working, or catching up with a friend. A lot of the customers had laptops out. We sat outside on the patio, and when our drinks were ready, they actually came out and let us know instead of just leaving them on the counter, which was very nice... such above and beyond service! Overall, had a great experience here, and I'm thankful they were open on Memorial Day. It meant a lot, especially since those close to me have served. It was a really thoughtful and pleasant visit, and we'll definitely be back. Thanks again!!

Yelp
Met up with a bunch of people at Alana's Coffee Roasters on a Sunday afternoon. I don't drink coffee after 10AM, so I tried one of their unusual canned sodas, Pear and Elderflower ($4.42), which was a bit odd. Since very few of their pastries were left at 2PM, I'll have to try one next time. Our group was so large that we were creating a fire hazard, so they kindly asked us to use the shaded patio in the back, where there are a few seats and tables. Inside is clean, comfortable and air conditioned, There's also a small book corner where you can take one and/or leave one. Add this cute little place on Robertson to your rotation for a cup of Joe.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop and cute options! It was really busy at lunchtime this week but my cold brew came out fast and tasty. They have some indoor seats and a couple of sidewalk tables which is fun for people watching or working in WeHo. We were impressed by the staff at the shop. They spent extra time being very patient with a customer in front of who needed some extra attention. They handled the situation very well and even apologized to us, when it wasn't their fault. Well informed and friendly staff! Service is great and prices aren't bad, I'll be back!

Yelp
I have been coming to Alana's for several years now and I can confidently say they are easily in my top 3 rotation for reliable quality coffee in LA. Their original location is in Venice but I'm extremely grateful they also have this Weho branch. I have tried various drink items from Alana's ranging from my usual iced vanilla latte to their chipotle mocha (one of the best imo), to the chaggacino, to the pirate's chai and even their matcha latte (although, I think their matcha is ok...I'd really stick with the coffee here). They have a great pastry selection as well, with more options available at the Venice location; they also offer gluten-free goods and I love how they outsource from different small bakeries, showcasing they like to support other businesses in the community(: I really enjoy getting work done here too, especially with so many seating options whether it's inside with plentiful outlet sources or outside in the front or back patios. The staff remember their regulars and I'm always delighted with the welcoming interior of all the lovely plants! They have a restroom for patrons and lots of street parking available on Robertson. I will note that the noise level can vary and some days seem more chill than others. Lastly, Alana's truly has some of the best beans in town, which is no surprise given the owner--Eric--is obviously passionate about the craft (their website has some pretty insightful stories about the business too!) I've brought so many friends and several visiting family members here and everyone has loved it so far~

Yelp
Update. *The staff is actually friendly, I have been coming for a year and a half now. Was wrong. It's now my go to for doing some work or just chatting with friends.
google avatar

Erin P.

Yelp
WiFi and outlets are available. There are multiple seating areas both indoors and outdoors. Pastries, small bites and some breakfast items are available. Service is excellent. Parking is not provided by the coffee shop, but 2 hour metered street parking is available.
google avatar

Alex A.

Yelp
Beautiful little spot with kind service. I got a vanilla latte with oat milk and it was so excellent--clearly the vanilla syrup is house made. Didn't see any vegan pastry options--a bummer. The outdoor area is beautiful, but I wasn't that impressed with the seating. The tables are low to the ground and required me to hunch, and there's a lot of wasted space overall. It's nice inside. Overall: quality beverages and pretty good ambiance. Nothing crazy good, but no reason to critique it much, either.
google avatar

Angela K.

Yelp
I tried their cold brew and it wasn't that great, super acidic! I think I had too many expectations as it was really busy but maybe I should've tried something else for my first time. I wish I tried their pastries but they were out sadly. They have limited seating availabilities inside and outside in the back and front but were mostly full when I was there. The barista that took my order wasn't rude but wasn't particularly nice so I probably won't be back anytime soon.
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
The vanilla latte is very balanced, not overly sweet! The baristas seemed friendly, there's seating inside and and outside. There's also a shelf of books and games you can use and swap.
google avatar

Sonya H.

Yelp
I really enjoy the coffee and vibe here. Whenever in the area I'm stopping by for my iced americano w chocolate. Stays pretty busy. Service was ok today.
google avatar

Lauren X.

Yelp
Really like the small unassuming spot that opens up in the back to a lush green garden. The coffee is good, albeit the crème on top of the latte was too frothy. The strength is there if you like strong coffee. Their little dessert area was packed with a lot of goodness, and tasted really well with the cup of coffee! Parking is definitely difficult here and if you're lucky, you can find a spot on the street or most likely you just have to park further and walk. Service friendly and overall a great place to work (lots of outlet) or just to people watch. Hey, that's work itself for some people!
google avatar

Todd G.

Yelp
Acceptable oat milk cappuccino, interesting layout making best possible use of an awkward space. A bit too noisy to be a regular hangout for me. Who could possibly read with all this noise? Loud music piped in, fun of conversations, and clatter and chatter nonstop from behind the bar. Utterly eliminated the need for a take a book, leave a book shelf. Saving grace is the nice quiet garden area out back...
google avatar

Oscar L.

Yelp
Great place to study and get some work done or hang out and chat with a friend. There's outside seating in the back and it's very nice with lots of plants. However there was a weird smell when I was there this past weekend, but hopefully it was just a one time thing. The matcha latte was good, but not amazing by any means. Service was pretty quick.
google avatar

Hanh N.

Yelp
Love love. Ordered hot latte with oat milk and croissant and both were amazing. This was one of the better lattes, right ratio of espresso with milk, and you can taste the freshness of the beans. The croissant was deeelicious. Nice little flaky crunch, not too buttery, and just right. Little nice outdoor seating area with plenty of plants to enjoy in the back, cute seating inside as well. Megan, server, was very nice serving alone that morning. Kudos to her for her efficiency and nice service. Will definitely visit again! :)
google avatar

Mika C.

Yelp
Very cute cafe in Weho! A somewhat hidden gem for a relaxed, casual coffee shop to meet with friends and work. I got the Mint Bruce Lee tea and my friend got their latte. Drinks were solid. The croissants were delicious! So buttery and flakey. For a workspace it's pretty great with the numerous of outlets and the option for indoor and outdoor seating. Service is great. Music on aux was okay. It's in a great area so a walk break between working is really nice in that in this neighborhood.
google avatar

Kevin E.

Yelp
Came in for a quick hit of caffeine and was pleasantly surprised by everything. The shop was busy but at the same time there wasn't a big wait. The prices were fair and I even got to meet one of the owners. Parking isn't the best but this is West Hollywood after all. I also wasn't parking for a coffee so it was a plus that it was located smack in the middle of Robertson Blvd. I ordered a macchiato and it was everything I hoped it would be! Will definitely be back.

Gerry V.

Yelp
Employees complained about "unfortunately being busy" due to a near by coffee shop. They were annoyed with the customers. The employees seemed unwelcoming.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Wow such a cute place and great outdoor patio in the back with stag horns and nice green hedges. The oat cap is spot on a nice medium flavor and tasty foam and pretty latte art. Highly recommended! One of the best oat caps I've enjoyed in LA!
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
Love the location as it's on a really fun street in WeHo near the Abbey, SUR and Something About Her. Parking can be a bit of a challenge if it's packed but usually there's a lot of metered parking in front. I love getting my matcha latte or latte here and it's consistently delicious. There's also a surprising amount of space and tables to work in inside and the staff is friendly!
google avatar

Jenny E.

Yelp
Amazing coffee!!! Even better service. Everyone working is so nice and helpful. Great location too and plenty of seating. Free WiFi too! Can't wait to come back / try the other location.
google avatar

Yelp
Alana's is a nice little coffee shop near home that roasts their own coffee. We've purchased bags of Kenya Natural and Ethiopia Natural. The Ethiopia Natural was kind of like a classic Ethiopian natural process coffee with yummy notes of blueberries. Kenya Natural has strong berry notes as well. Both bags of beans have been great for pour overs and immersion brews, and they're also really good as espresso! So far, we're loving the beans and are excited to get more when we're out. The customer service has been hit or miss, but it's not a huge deal because I'm just there to have coffee, and they're great at it! I'm very happy to support a small local roaster that truly delivers, especially when they're located next to more well known/ established roasters like verve.

Yelp
I tried to go to the Robertson store, but there is absolutely NO PARKING! I finally gave up and drove to Peet's on Westwood Blvd...
google avatar

Lily D.

Yelp
Strong, good coffee. Fast service even though it's busy. Great playlist and nice working sitting areas.
google avatar

Wilfred Y.

Yelp
cute neighborhood coffee shop, like a oasis in the busy city. Has a tiny patio in the back, Good place to do some light work, though it is quite busy when I was there. An eclectic mix of customers make some good people watching.
google avatar

Shannon N.

Yelp
I actually dragged myself out of bed to join a friend here for coffee. I've never been, but Alana's was spoken highly of, and it wasn't too far from our work. Metered parking on Robertson works, and it's quite close to the large garage for the West Hollywood Park/Library in case street is too difficult to find. Alana's is a smaller space, but it extends to the back and even outside, although it was too chilly and windy to enjoy the patio the day we went. After ordering an oatmilk cocoa and iced coffee, we made our way to the community table in the back. We sat at tiny chairs to enjoy our drink and just catch up. Coming around 11a was a good time; since there were only a few people within the place so we only had one person sitting with us during the time we were there. As for the service, it wasn't friendly but certainly not rude; the guy at the register covered the basics, but when the barista asked what size for my drink, he never even gave me an option for this. I feel as though they didn't really want to be there, but it could have been worse. With that being said, I would return here for a future visit, maybe trying something different.
google avatar

Shelb E.

Yelp
AVOID for matcha lattes. The matcha is mixed in the morning, and sits out on the counter - at room temp. The flavor is a bit bitter and color a muddled green. Definitely not fresh. The proportion of matcha to milk wasn't right either.. very milky. Only got it because I was on-the-go. Three stars for relatively friendly staff and a clean, nice environment.
google avatar

Kat T.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop, very casual, European style, can borrow a book to read. Coffee and matcha lattes were great! Service as expected. There isn't a dedicated parking lot for this coffee shop.
google avatar

Leah W.

Yelp
An absolutely perfect location. The West Hollywood library and park is steps away. It's such a beautiful area with so much to do. The vanilla latte was perfect and they have always beautiful pastries. Everything is always great! They have a nice bathroom and a lovely patio outside too! Coffee came out fast and with a smile!
google avatar

Amy F.

Yelp
We came to see Something About Her, but it had not opened yet. We came here to get coffee and they were so nice to answer questions about SAH.

Tiera R.

Yelp
Great little spot in West Hollywood to meet a friend or a date, to read or study. The coffee was great and as a vegan I appreciated that there were pastry offerings a breakfast sandwich and chia and overnight oats

Eiman D.

Yelp
The coffee is okay. But the employees are questionable. They're not friendly, and they're kinda obnoxious. Including the owner. Every time I come, I greet them, they stand like logs, an actual tree trunk has more personality than all of them blended together. It's like you're inconveniencing them by adding money to their paychecks. You say hi, no response. You say thank you, no response and on top of all that you tip them and nothing. Save your money and go somewhere with better coffee and friendlier employees/owner. Like basics of business, teach your employees to be nice. I'm not kidding, a lady walked in all bubbly saying hi, and NOTHING. Also, if your barista is making coffee, maybe just maybe ask them to cover their hairy pits. I nearly threw up when they lifted their arm and that hairy pit was on full display. I don't need to see that.
google avatar

Mahwish R.

Yelp
I'd heard GREAT things about Alana's Venice so had to check out the WeHo spot since I was in town. It was such a pleasant surprise, very good coffee and excellent pastries, not your average/boring coffee shop! The chipotle latte was to my surprise so good, as was the almond croissant. The shop was quite spacious, with a back patio and ample seating through out. The service was good, nothing special but good! I saw another review that says the works were cold and sassy - I didn't experience "cold" but could definitely sense sassy. Overall/ great coffee, great space. 8/10!
google avatar

Shana H.

Yelp
Irritating experience. Extremely bitter , luke warm cappuccino sans foam, and the employee was talking SO loudly the entire time about what an idiot his boss is and how things should really work around there. I couldn't even concentrate on what I was trying to work on because he wouldn't stop with obnoxious and horribly loud banter . He proceeded to talk smack about every person that walked in. So, I'm returning the favor. Spare yourself .
google avatar

Rosemarie D.

Yelp
This was such a cute little coffee shop in the area. Perfect to kill time before a reservation to work in or grab coffee. This place was perfect to study or work from because of the abundant amount of charging outlets, back seating area, and back patio. We had a reservation for a restaurant in the area and was able to get some work done at this coffee shop. Was impressed with the quality of their coffee and tea. Also, there was so many people coming in and out which is definitely a good sign. Staff was very friendly, accommodating, and answered all our questions. They had a wide variety of coffee and tea! Definitely, pass by and grab a coffee or pasty if you're the area.

Yelp
Pro: Coffee quality, live music, friendly staff. Room for improvement: outdoor seating. Super excited to have one of my favorite coffee roasters open up in WEHO. The Venice location is still my favorite given they roast their own coffee their and the aroma is delicious. The service at this location is impeccable and I was so excited to have a live performance next to my table. The coffee itself makes this place deserving of a 5/5, however I found the outdoor patio a bit uncomfortable due to low seats and tables so I give it a 4.5/5. Once they spruce up the outdoor seating this place will be 5/5. The wifi was perfect and whole place was very clean. Tip: order chipotle mocha If you like spice and unique drinks. Drink rundown: I tried the chipotle mocha and the latte art literally made my day! I am still debating if it's a Pegasus or my little pony. However, the drink was true to its name as it has a little choco spice to it which I enjoyed. I am so glad they did not tone down the spice as many places in the US do. They also had pastries available but I did not try any (regrets). Overall, Alanah's is top of my list and this location did not disappoint. The coffee, service, and location are top notch.
google avatar

Kristen C.

Yelp
Cute and quaint coffee shop with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The almond croissant was delicious and a good portion. Also tried the pirates chai which was a matcha based chai that was a fun spin on a normal chai. The baristas were very helpful and knowledgeable of the menu.
google avatar

Michelangelo L.

Yelp
The service is quick and amazing to their customers, there's plenty of seating both inside and out. The drinks are amazing, especially the lattes. 10/10 would recommend for anyone in the area. Do keep in mind that it is not open all day.
google avatar

Mary P.

Yelp
Delicious Matcha and they know what breve is. If you're craving a cold drink on a hot day definitely come here.
google avatar

Gina L.

Yelp
Great beans for purchase. Variety of pastries for sale. Staff had a bit of a bad attitude but we all have bad days. Would visit again.
google avatar

Jay A.

Yelp
Was in my old neighborhood yesterday, plan was to stop by the Assembly for a good cup of coffee + savory pastry. Realized the coffee shop I loved was still there; however, was now called Alana's Coffee Roasters. While they did not have the variety of savory options I typically find I saw an interesting ham and cheese croissant in the case. The guy heated it up and it was delicious. Crust was light and flakey, nice grated cheese toasted atop. Served on a proper china plate. Perfection! My cappuccino was also 5 stars. It had the right coffee flavor/froth. I was pretty content with my coffee and pastry. Always sit on their outdoor patio. New owners have cleaned things up in the back. Outdoor seating area is very nice especially if you have a dog like we have. If you want a nice place to chill with coffee cut off from the hustle of West Hollywood Alana's is an exceptional option. The guys working here were very nice. Clearly a place I will be coming back to.
google avatar

Robbie H.

Yelp
Alana's is a spectacular space to get work done, have coffee with friends or coworkers, or just relax for a bit with a good cup of your favorite drink. It's my go-to in weho!

Andréa A.

Yelp
I loved going to this coffee shop! They also have different types of savories and pastries as well.
google avatar

Mae M.

Yelp
Super cute homey coffee and pastry spot in West Hollywood. It's the perfect place to meet up with clients or partners to work on a project. They have a mix of larger and smaller tables. The wifi is fast and the drinks and food are yummy. I am a croissant lover and loved their ham and cheese one. It's been over a month since I went and I'm still thinking about the croissant! Looking forward to going back and trying the other locations as well.
google avatar

Jewel H.

Yelp
Love this spot! Great coffee and fresh pastries (that they will warm up for you.) Indoor vibe is very nice with real hanging plants. Only bummer....was excited for a nice, off-the-street outdoor space (since that's so rare in LA) and the back patio IS nice and shaded...but loud. Some sort of loud mechanical noise. So, not the most enjoyable atmosphere for those who like to sit outside and are noise sensitive or generally aware of the atmosphere.

Bee O.

Yelp
was pretty disappointed, it didn't feel like a welcoming environment. service was lagged we ordered a regular iced oatmilk latte that came out watered down. looked like it was sitting out for a while. it also tasted as if they put almond milk instead of oat. wasn't the best coffee BUT i will say their chocolate croissant was good

T C.

Yelp
I had a latte with oat milk and to my surprise it is the best latte I have ever had. The coffee is smooth. The customer service is Excellent. The baristas are nice. The shop is cute and spacious.
