How an Expert Fisherman Catches Alaskan King Salmon | Eater

"Founded by Kyle Lee, this fishing operation is built around intercepting peak-value salmon at the start of their upriver migration. Lee demonstrates a fast, hands-on approach—throwing a buoy as close to shore as regulations allow, then rapidly setting a straight net so it holds shape in ripping tides—followed by long periods of watching for the telltale bobbing that indicates a catch. He stresses speed, attention to changing conditions, and constant vigilance against local wildlife such as seals that try to pilfer fish from nets." - Avery Dalal

What a great establishment, glad I can get some incredible fish from Duffy and team here. Highly recommend for quality seafood and fish, this gets the See Deep approval being used to fresh fish from the deep sea growing up. Great service and keeping things healthy during this time. Extensive selection of fish to take away.

Google
Amazingly fresh salmon and great selection of frozen fish. We couldn’t leave without also getting some grouper too! I didn’t catch his name, I’m assuming he was the owner, but he was kind and picked us out the 3 best grouper filets to go along with the beautiful salmon filets we came for.

I got tired of buying the tiny 4oz packages of smoked salmon at the grocery store so I started checking around local Denver area if there was a local seafood shop. I found Alaskan here but was a little skeptical because the most recent reviews were kinda old, website out of date, and I worried about the pandemic maybe they closed. Well it didn't hurt to do a drive by and sure enough saw an Open sign. They're inside the Town and Country market. The folks were friendly and they had what I was looking for: pre-vacuum sealed frozen smoked salmon. I walked out with several packages and they were very reasonably priced. Thawed one in the fridge overnight and popped the rest in the freezer. I opened the thawed package this morning and was absolutely delighted. Better than the stuff in the store. Great flavor. I've had a LOT of smoked salmon over the years and this is definitely up there in quality. I'll definitely be going back and I'm looking forward to trying more of the seafood offerings they have. The other reviews I read here were helpful.

My husband and I stumbled upon this spot a couple weeks ago while looking for some veggies to plant. We picked up a huge salmon fillet for $10/lb. I brined it (50/50 salt and brown sugar), smoked it, and it ended up being the best salmon we’ve ever had. Not fishy tasting in the least which is great bc we recently got one from Sam’s that was pretty fishy. This will be our only stop for salmon from now on. So glad to support this small business!

Google
Best salmon ever! They offer many other seafood options as well. We have been shopping here for years and will continue to do so.

Wow! I have been on the hunt for quality fish here in landlocked Colorado. The prices and taste beat everything I’ve tried—from other fish markets to Whole Foods. Happy to have found this gem after 15 years of living in the city.

Came here a year or so ago & forgot to leave a review, but the salmon quality here is great!! They also have a variation of offerings on different days, and they are extremely friendly!

Google
Too bad you can't put up 6 stars....best and most eclectic place in Denver - fabulous salmon and other fish but some of the most extraordinary things on the side....today, chives and tarragon plants - all the other places were out...if you want incredible fish at a good price and maybe something else to go with your own yellow submarine (see inside store), get thee there.

Yelp
I am so impressed with this store! This was the best salmon I've ever had. The fish was so fresh and such high quality. This is the only place I will be buying seafood from!

Yelp
You have to look hard to find this place but an excellent selection of salmon and other seafood, including shellfish. Support your local businesses.

Yelp
I'm visiting from California and this is the by far best salmon I have ever eaten. Wild caught and so reasonable. Give it a try.

Yelp
I was going to wait after trying a few more items from here before writing a review, but I'm just too excited! You guys, Alaskan Salmon Company is a hidden gem that I wish I learned about much, much earlier. It's a seafood wholesaler that usually supplies to restaurants, and it turns out that restaurants have been getting better quality seafood than we were able to find in grocery stores. We ordered two pounds of Canadian salmon and two pounds of what is just described as "jumbo scallops" but ended up being these beautiful U-8 scallops. (I weighed them after drying them off, and there were seven in a pound.) The salmon was fresh and we turned it into a delicious meal with little effort, but can we just talk about the scallops some more? While it wasn't indicated whether they were wet or dry, I think they may be dry scallops. Prior to cooking, the scallops had a pinkish hue. I didn't have to do much to draw the moisture out before searing, and the sear turned out perfectly. In addition, my husband said that the scallops reminded him of ice cream because it had a sweet and creamy taste to it. This local business is now at the top of our list of seafood. We're already putting together another order for more salmon, the tuna poke cubes, and...you guessed it. Scallops.

Yelp
How have i lived this close to such amazing Salmon at such an amazing price? Not sure is the answer. I went in first thing on a Monday am. I was told fish comes in twice a week...one of those days is Sunday. So Monday fish is prefect. I ended up pan searing and serving with homemade chimichurri. I am a huge fan and will be back VERY OFTEN.

Yelp
I have been buying salmon from Duffy at Alaskan Salmon Co for 26 years now. The quality has never varied and the fish is always delicious. It would be very hard to get a fresher piece of salmon in Denver. In the last few years I have also been buying frozen shrimp from him and they are also great. Stu

Yelp
Coors banquet sign**** is the land mark to find this place! It's a little sketchy in the sense you wouldn't normally stop here to get salmon, but very obviously fresh wild salmon without any of that fishy taste! Look for the white wood sign that says "FRESH SALMON"!!

Yelp
It's not a fancy-looking place but don't let that fool you - this is an amazing seafood store! We always get our salmon here, it's always fresh and not expensive. I especially appreciate that when I make salmon soup they will throw in some salmon heads and bones for next to nothing or free. They have a great assortment of frozen seafood, haven't tried it all but the large shrimp are amazing. They also make their own smoked salmon, it's really good. The service is friendly and personal and they are also very good at adapting to the pandemic - you can order online and get curbside delivery if you wish and they are good about wearing masks. This is truly a neighborhood gem!

Yelp
This was by far the best, freshest, most delicious salmon I've ever had. Wild salmon caught from Canada, Oregon, Alaska and Washington, Duffy knows everything there is to know about his wonderful, delicious SALMON! From now on, this will be the only place I go to for all my salmon purchases.

Yelp
Great Salmon. Bare bones establishment but fish was fresh, delicious and reasonable. A little hard to find and not well "signed".

Yelp
Great find in a very unassuming store off Colfax. Duffy gets the salmon flown in fresh a few times a week from Alaska and other places. Many restaurants in Denver get their fish from here. Very reasonable prices for the quality.
