The 31 Best Places To Eat & Stay In Sydney - The Infatuation

"There are a lot of great Italian restaurants in Sydney, but Alberto’s Lounge—which works just as well for a quick cocktail as it does for an all-night date—feels unique. Located between two city laneways, the leather banquette seating and close quarters ooze with ‘70s cool, but what really makes this place special is the Australian-influenced Italian menu. Kingfish crudo might come with fermented tomato, rainbow trout gets served up with pippies, and it all goes well with a wine list of local and Italian options. The same people are behind a bunch of other buzzing spots around town: underground French spot Restaurant Hubert, Sydney’s OG speakeasy Shady Pines, basement bar The Baxter Inn, and late-night pizza joint Frankie’s." - Caroline Clements 33

We came to Alberto’s Lounge for a special birthday lunch for my daughter, and it was perfect from start to finish. The food was outstanding — fresh, flavourful, and beautifully prepared (the pasta was a favourite!). The service was exceptional — warm, professional, and so thoughtful. The staff really made us feel welcome and helped make the day feel special. My daughter had the best time and loved every moment. The vibe was fun and relaxed, just right for a family celebration. We’ll definitely be back!

We visited this place for a special occasion, hoping for an authentic Italian vibe – and we were not disappointed by choosing Alberto's Lounge. The food was absolutely delicious – special shoutout to the lobster pasta… divine! The service was great. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. We were looked after by Eleonora, who was lovely and very knowledgeable. The rest of the team were also attentive and worked well together, which made the whole evening enjoyable. Definitely a spot to add to your list if you are after genuine Italian food and a warm, lively atmosphere

Yesterday I had dinner here, the food was very delicious, soft and melted in the mouth. I felt that every dish was delicious, but my favorite dish was Polpette, this dish was the best. And the atmosphere was very romantic, lights, music, and most importantly, the staff provided good service. Their eyes were attentive to every table of customers in case they needed anything more. They were friendly. Overall, it was very good, I love it.

The food and ambience are great, especially the music vibe, which sets the mood. However, I’ve noticed a decline in the overall food quality since my last visit. The anchovy toast remains a standout (still delicious!), but it was definitely the highlight this time. The prawn with mullet roe and the buffalo mozzarella were decent, but lacked the wow factor and felt a bit underwhelming.

Google
Quite a hidden restaurant to find which is like looking for a hidden bar. Great ambience and vibe to this place. Service was excellent, staff were very attentive and accommodating. The pastas are the highlight of this place, really enjoyed the Rigatoni alla sorrentina, Gigli al ragu di anatra, the kingfish crudo was really fresh. The only little disappointment was the Negroni, was quite light and felt watered down I find. However quite smooth.

Super cool vibes with good quality food and drinks! Crostini with tomatoes was a tasty two-bite dish. We also had two different pastas and both dishes were AMAZING! The meatballs with polenta dish was also delicious. Desserts consisted of cannoli and tiramisu, and it was such a treat! Overall, I will definitely be back for the crostini, pasta and cannoli!

overall, the food was amazing. We ordered the raw king fish, smoky roasted ramp cap, and lobster pasta. The raw king fish was fresh with a slightly sour taste, balancing the flavor and reducing the fishy aftertaste. Personally, I think it would have been even better if the king fish was served colder for a better texture. The lobster pasta had a sweeter flavor, with perfectly cooked pasta that had just the right firmness. The lobster meat was cooked to perfection. However, it does require a reservation and costs $180 for half a lobster. Considering the current lobster prices in Sydney, it’s not the most cost-effective option, but the flavor definitely makes up for it. Cake service fee is 10 per person, but they can wave it if you order dessert.

I went to eat burrata, but it wasn't on the menu anymore🥹 But everything was delicious! There is no photo.. But pasta and steak were delicious too:)))

Yelp
The menu choices are very good for this restaurant. The opening hours are convenient, however the restaurant is in a somewhat difficult location. Overall great European food and atmosphere. The atmosphere brings a welcoming ambiance.

Yelp
A very cozy Italian restaurant with lovely staff amazing dishes. It does get crowded and reservations are a must in advance. Way in advance... Enjoy!

Yelp
Happening place, vibrant, alive and the food was scrumptious! Service was awesome. It's a little hard to find but totally worth the search! Once you find the door and enter a long skinny hallway it's amazing small, and alive! The food was incredible. Obvious that there were loads of regular customers there!

Yelp
This is my kinda place - walls covered in the Big Lebowski movie posters (in Italian no less) and music pumping way too loud - the place is jammed with every seat taken. Great wine list and a small but interesting food menu. Started with the Caprese di Pesca - peaches and mozzarella evaluated with a basil ginger vinaigrette giving it a real freshness and zing. I followed that with the Spaghetti al Pomodoro more basil and chilli and fresh mini tomotoes with piping hot pasta. This has just the right level of spice decent heat but not overpowering. Service was friendly, welcoming and efficient. Great vibe and great food to match.

Yelp
We came to Alberto's lounge on a Sunday evening with a prior booking and the place was slammed. as we walked in it felt like a club more than as restaurant as the music was loud and there was hardly any room to maneuver. If you are not familiar with this particular spot, you might even be inclined to believe you walked in through the back door but rest assured, it's the only way in. We were quickly seated at our table at the time of our booking and the staff was quite attentive for how busy it was. I am unable to tell if it's always this busy and/or if the music is always playing this loud. The dishes are not very large and are best shared The menu is also fairly short which I can appreciate; a restaurant with too many options is usually one that's trying to please rather than focusing on the quality and execution of theirs dishes. Overall I would recommend Alberto's Lounge with a fair warning: it's loud and crowded. So, if you are looking for intimacy on a date, look else where.

Yelp
Overpriced with ordinary food. It was $12 for 2 pieces of focaccia and $25 to $30 for small plates of pasta. The wine was very expensive $97 for the cheapest red wine (Le Ragnaie Troncone Sangiovese $30 online). Desserts were also ordinary - The Panna cotta was like a light milk custard.

Yelp
Believe the hype. Hard to get a booking, and man-oh-man, I see why. This small club-like restautant serves mainly small dishes, best shared. Delicious, inventive food, a great wine list, caring staff and great music. What more could you want?

Yelp
Not again - Claustrophobic ambience, overcrowded, noisy and tried to overcharge us with an incorrect bill. Food was just satisfactory with the mains not arriving until after 1.5hrs. The satisfactory food was deserving of 1 star. Dining tables too small to fit the dishes comfortably, spacing between other tables reminded me of peak hour Sydney trains (when there are school kids) - bit odd that the toilets were much more generous with space?! Even the waiters and waitresses struggled to walk through the cramped space where back-to-back chairs were less than 20cm apart.
