The 31 Best Places To Eat & Stay In Sydney - Sydney - The Infatuation

"There are a lot of great Italian restaurants in Sydney, but Alberto’s Lounge—which works just as well for a quick cocktail as it does for an all-night date—feels unique. Located between two city laneways, the leather banquette seating and close quarters ooze with ‘70s cool, but what really makes this place special is the Australian-influenced Italian menu. Kingfish crudo might come with fermented tomato, rainbow trout gets served up with pippies, and it all goes well with a wine list of local and Italian options. The same people are behind a bunch of other buzzing spots around town: underground French spot Restaurant Hubert, Sydney’s OG speakeasy Shady Pines, basement bar The Baxter Inn, and late-night pizza joint Frankie’s." - caroline clements 33

Google
Such a great find. Menu is limited but done really well. Service was excellent as well. I would highly recommend ordering the focaccia with olive oil, buffalo mozzarella, raw kingfish, Lumache al Forno pasta dish and the tiramisu.

To celebrate another anniversary with my partner, I treated him to Alberto’s, tucked away on a quiet street in the heart of Sydney. The ambience was cosy and vibrant, with great music and a funky touch that we both loved. Unfortunately, our table felt quite small, even for two people, which took a little away from the experience. The staff were excellent, they’re all friendly, attentive, and always happy to help. A special mention to James, who looked after us so well throughout the night. We also really enjoyed the Dottore Pepe cocktail and ended up ordering it twice. The food was good and full of flavour but didn’t quite have the wow factor we were hoping for. The Lumache al Forno was a letdown, with a smaller portion than expected and a spice level that overpowered the dish. Dessert was the standout. The tiramisu was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced, making up for the main course.

Alberto’s is the best Italian restaurant I have been to in a while! The spanner crab pasta was succulent, topped flaky flavourful crab. Pasta was al dente and coated with a lighty umami sauce. The raw fish starter was fresh and delightful. The ambience was low lit and relaxing, perfect for weekend evening. There was a brief wait before we were seated, but Phoebe handled it very promptly and was very kind and helpful. Would definitely come again with dear friends or a date night!

Really cute spot with a great vibe. Pretty busy for a Monday night, full of young people, and the music gives the place such a good atmosphere. The fish crudité was super fresh, but the rest of the food felt a bit overrated. Tiramisu though… easily the best we’ve had in Sydney so far. Our Italian waitress (from Milan/Piedmont) was super detail-oriented, explained every dish, and made us feel really comfortable. Overall, a fun and lively place!

One of the nicest overall dining experiences i’ve had in a very long time. The food was great, and they were very accomodating to one of my party who was gluten free! The bistecca was an incredible standout and so was the was the warm foccacia (not pictured, sadly!) The spicy Nduja pasta was also delicious. There was four of us so we ordered a selection plus the wine list was great. 9/10 overall.

Alberto’s Lounge never misses. The candlelight, the records, the slightly cramped tables, the vibe like someone’s Italian living room exploded in the best way possible. It’s loud, it’s warm, it’s messy, it’s exactly where you want to be. And if you’re going to treat yourself, forget everything else and pre-order the lobster. It is insane. Sweet, smoky, buttery, ridiculous, the kind of thing that makes you stop mid conversation. The summer menu is absolutely killer too, full of fresh, bright dishes that land like a punch in all the right ways. The crew are legends, floating between tables, cracking jokes, making you feel welcome, invited, and like you’re part of a family. It’s indulgent, it’s fun, it’s Sydney’s best romantic, slightly dangerous dinner night. If you’re splurging, this is the one.

Google
A hidden gem! Bravissimi!! One of Sydney’s top Italian restaurants, no doubt. The service is immaculate. The attention to detail and the anticipation of your needs is really white glove. You only find this lounge if you know… and given by the long queue of people wanting a table when we left, the secret is out. The atmosphere is perfect for a date or an important business dinner. The seating is cosy and at the same time intimate. The pasta is outstanding and the steak was melt in your mouth. Book early or you’ll be disappointed.

Google
Date night vibes for sure! Very intimate and cosy. Service was extremely attentive and the dishes were all fantastic. Wish the tiramisu had a bit more coffee flavour though.

Yelp
The menu choices are very good for this restaurant. The opening hours are convenient, however the restaurant is in a somewhat difficult location. Overall great European food and atmosphere. The atmosphere brings a welcoming ambiance.

Yelp
A very cozy Italian restaurant with lovely staff amazing dishes. It does get crowded and reservations are a must in advance. Way in advance... Enjoy!

Yelp
Happening place, vibrant, alive and the food was scrumptious! Service was awesome. It's a little hard to find but totally worth the search! Once you find the door and enter a long skinny hallway it's amazing small, and alive! The food was incredible. Obvious that there were loads of regular customers there!

Yelp
This is my kinda place - walls covered in the Big Lebowski movie posters (in Italian no less) and music pumping way too loud - the place is jammed with every seat taken. Great wine list and a small but interesting food menu. Started with the Caprese di Pesca - peaches and mozzarella evaluated with a basil ginger vinaigrette giving it a real freshness and zing. I followed that with the Spaghetti al Pomodoro more basil and chilli and fresh mini tomotoes with piping hot pasta. This has just the right level of spice decent heat but not overpowering. Service was friendly, welcoming and efficient. Great vibe and great food to match.

Yelp
We came to Alberto's lounge on a Sunday evening with a prior booking and the place was slammed. as we walked in it felt like a club more than as restaurant as the music was loud and there was hardly any room to maneuver. If you are not familiar with this particular spot, you might even be inclined to believe you walked in through the back door but rest assured, it's the only way in. We were quickly seated at our table at the time of our booking and the staff was quite attentive for how busy it was. I am unable to tell if it's always this busy and/or if the music is always playing this loud. The dishes are not very large and are best shared The menu is also fairly short which I can appreciate; a restaurant with too many options is usually one that's trying to please rather than focusing on the quality and execution of theirs dishes. Overall I would recommend Alberto's Lounge with a fair warning: it's loud and crowded. So, if you are looking for intimacy on a date, look else where.

Yelp
Overpriced with ordinary food. It was $12 for 2 pieces of focaccia and $25 to $30 for small plates of pasta. The wine was very expensive $97 for the cheapest red wine (Le Ragnaie Troncone Sangiovese $30 online). Desserts were also ordinary - The Panna cotta was like a light milk custard.

Yelp
Believe the hype. Hard to get a booking, and man-oh-man, I see why. This small club-like restautant serves mainly small dishes, best shared. Delicious, inventive food, a great wine list, caring staff and great music. What more could you want?

Yelp
Not again - Claustrophobic ambience, overcrowded, noisy and tried to overcharge us with an incorrect bill. Food was just satisfactory with the mains not arriving until after 1.5hrs. The satisfactory food was deserving of 1 star. Dining tables too small to fit the dishes comfortably, spacing between other tables reminded me of peak hour Sydney trains (when there are school kids) - bit odd that the toilets were much more generous with space?! Even the waiters and waitresses struggled to walk through the cramped space where back-to-back chairs were less than 20cm apart.
