We had a great dinner at Alcanfor. The space feels simple and personal, with candles, wood tables, and an open kitchen where you can watch the team work. Service was fantastic and they even handled a rude neighboring diner quickly and kindly, which I appreciated more than I can say.
The food sticks to a zero-waste philosophy without feeling gimmicky. We started with the sourdough and brown butter and the langostinos with avocado, kimchi mayo, and crispy cabbage. It was one of my favorite dishes of the night. I had the lamb, served in a few different ways with sweet grilled quince and a fresh fennel salad, and Mariano had the perfectly cooked chernia with citrus bok choy and miso beurre blanc. We finished with a refreshing candied pomelo sorbet.
The menu is small, seasonal, and smartly done. Cash gets you a 10% discount, and English menus are available. Overall, a memorable night with solid food, wonderful service, and a beautiful mission.
