Alchemy Restaurant and Bar

Some dining adventures can be sheer magic. Such was our experience this past Saturday night when we took out of state family to Alchemy for dinner. it was a magical mix of wine, weather and a professional wait staff who took fantastic care of us. Kudo's to Christian, a great waiter, who saw to everything ... from dinner selections and a great wine pairing. The Caesar salad was a cut above, but the fig salad sent our taste buds into orbit. My filet was grilled as requested ... medium rare. Evan , the new chef found ae free minute to come out of the kitchen and introduce himself. His outward, embracing personality is reflected in his cooking. Reservations are a good idea.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I was dressed right. Place is a bit fancy but they didn’t treat us like outsiders. Had a glass of Pinot and the duck breast. Both hit. Service was a little stiff, but the food was really well done. Would come back if I wanted to impress someone.

We make the drive up to Portland twice a year and always stay in Ashland for two to three nights. Alchemy is one of our favorite restaurants on the entire trip. The food and service make you feel like you’re dining in St. Helena. Absolutely delicious!

My partner and I came in for dinner and our experience was great! The drinks and food were very delicious. The lamb tartare is a must try as our server Kidd was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. It was a busy night and our food came out promptly. Kidd’s recommendations were spot and he helped make our evening special. We would have preferred to sit outside but Mother Nature had other plans. We look forward to coming back.

We had a fantastic experience at Alchemy and we will be returning for sure. The food was amazing and worth going just for that but the service impressed us just as much. We made a last minute reservation for our anniversary and they were able to get us in which was great. The staff were attentive but not over bearing and they answered our questions and made sure we had what we needed. Our server was brilliant and he made our dining experience top notch. The atmosphere is quiet and intimate inside and the outdoor seating was spacious and peaceful. As we were leaving the deer were meandering up the hill. The aged ribeye was perfect and absolutely huge. The lamb shank was delicious and tender. Everything had amazing flavors without being overwhelming. The drinks were pleasant as well. I would recommend Alchemy for a special celebration or just a pleasant evening out.

The Alchemy restaurant in Ashland offers a wonderful blend of location and atmosphere — refined without feeling pretentious. Service was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall experience. The tuna carpaccio was excellent, fresh and delicate in flavor. I particularly enjoyed the foamed potatoes and the kale-and-mushroom side that accompanied my ribeye; both were prepared with care and full of character. The ribeye itself was cooked perfectly, but fell short in other respects — only about three-quarters of an inch thick, lacking marbling, and somewhat difficult to cut. On the brighter side, I had a “fun” gin and tonic made with locally sourced tonic, which brought an unexpected twist to a classic drink. Overall, a restaurant worth visiting for its setting, service, and inventive touches, with a few areas for improvement in the steak department.

Atmosphere was great as was the service. The food on the other hand had some issues. 1. The scallop appetizer comes with three scallops. There were four of us. We indicated we would be happy to pay a bit more to have a fourth scallop added. We were given a lame excuse about keeping the count correct. 2. The duck dish was good but not up to the price level. The breast portion was a bit tough. 3. The filet mignon had a hunk of gristle and too much fat. Not what I would expect at a dining establishment of this caliber.

A Local’s Scathing (and Unfortunately Accurate) Take on Alchemy in Ashland As someone who’s lived in Ashland long enough to know where the real food is, I went into Alchemy hoping they’d finally stepped up their game. Spoiler alert: they have not. If anything, my recent visit felt like a flashback to a restaurant clinging to its glory days like an old prom king who still brings up high school. The Steak: Look, I’m not asking for perfection. I’m just asking for a steak that doesn’t taste like it was punished for my sins. Mine arrived with the kind of texture you get when you forget something on the grill… and then remember it after a small crisis. Let’s just say if a steak knife had feelings, mine would’ve called its therapist afterward. The Salad: Calling it a “salad” feels generous. It was more like a handful of leaves experiencing drought conditions. If there was dressing, it must have evaporated during the walk from the kitchen. I’ve had more moisture come off the Rogue Valley air on a dry August day. The Decor: Every local knows Alchemy used to look nice. Now it just looks… tired. Outdated in that “hasn’t-been-touched-since-Obama’s-first-term” kind of way. The chairs slump like they’ve accepted their fate. The tables wobble like they’re trying to escape the restaurant entirely. And the tablecloths? Let’s just say flipping them upside down to hide stains is a trick we all recognize, and it’s not the kind that inspires confidence. The Vibe (A.K.A. My Partners’ Reactions): My business partners—who came in optimistic—left looking like they’d just discovered bad news about their credit scores. They were disappointed, confused, and questioning every positive thing I’d ever said about Ashland’s dining scene. Local Word Around Town (My Personal Take): As a local, my impression is that people aren’t exactly raving about the place lately. The whispers sound less like “Wow, amazing!” and more like “Oh… you went there?” It’s the kind of tone we usually reserve for tourists who accidentally join the Shakespeare Festival line thinking it’s a coffee queue. Salvation: Coco Rico Thankfully, we regrouped at Coco Rico, where the food actually tastes like someone cooked it on purpose. The dishes had flavor. They had energy. They had life. Coco Rico felt like the culinary equivalent of being rescued by a competent friend who knows how to fix every disaster. By the end of the night, we were full, happy, and reminded that Ashland does know how to do food—just not at Alchemy right now. If you’re a local, you already know where to go. If you’re visiting: learn from my mistakes. Start at Coco Rico and save yourself the emotional journey

Filet mignon with Truffle Jus was phenomenal. Bread with trio butter - couldn't decide in which butter tasted the best. Steak tartare was really good. Bartender who helped us was friendly and informative. The Manhattan was made perfectly. Really liked easy going ambiance at the where we sat.

Just Wow , Wow , Wow! Such an amazing restaurant. If you are a foodie and love dining for the love of new and exciting dishes, this is the place for you. Do not be turned away because of the prices. You will definitely be getting your moneys worth. I would much rather pay a high price and walk away blown away by such incredible meal than go some place for an average meal. I sat in the bar area and enjoyed speaking to the bartender who gave me excellent recommendations on what to eat. If you love mushrooms, get the mushroom flan appetizer. It was full of flavor . So good. Nothing like I had ever had. It was delicious.

ALCHEMY RESTAURANT ASHLAND, Oregon We went here for Nancy's birthday... This was the worst dining experience I've ever had. The food was pretentious, and the kitchen was overreaching and didn't have the skill to execute the menu properly. The service was very bad. Our waiter was unfriendly and inattentive. I will try to keep my comments as short as possible. ( ) Ordered the grilled octopus. And unfortunately, what was presented was not the same as was represented in the photograph when the dish arrived there were small slices of octopus tentacle, but no pieces of grilled octopus as was in the photograph mentioned above the sauce was an Asian style sauce, it was too spicy and overwhelmed the flavor of the octopus. Sadly, I had to return this dish back to the kitchen and did not re-order which apparently caused a problem and someone from the kitchen or somewhere came out and asked what the problem was I told them and they kind of just brushed it off and said oh there was a big piece of octopus tentacle underneath , the greens that were on the plate. Well if you're gonna have octopus, it should be the star of the plate not hidden so this was a poor beginning to got no better. My wife ordered the trout and I ordered the comfy. When the trout came, we were a little surprised. There was a small fillet of trout with some sauce and that was it on the plate as I have had in the past that usually is a whole trout not just a small piece so that was disappointing, but my wife did like the trout so that was good. As for the duck, it was a disaster. the duck breast was very tiny and probably because it was overcooked to the point of being well done caused the breast to shrink. It was so overcooked it was like eating a piece of leather. The duck comfy in puff pastry was horrendous. The comfy of duck was mushy and lukewarm, and it appeared as though the puff had not been put in the oven because it looked sad and limp And not a crispy, puff pastry, which again was sad. There was a sauce on the plate made from a chicken reduction, which made no sense since it was duck and not chicken. Who would do that? We decided to have dessert. My wife had a tart, which was nice. She enjoyed it but again nothing spectacular. I had what was touted to be a chocolate fondant. Fondant is usually used as a covering for cakes. This was a cylinder of what was more like a chocolate ganache. It was good, but it was not again with the menu described. Just another disappointment from this kitchen. Overall, it was a disappointing dining experience. The only upside was that I was with an amazing person. So in conclusion, the restaurant and food was pretentious. The kitchen was cooking beyond their capability and the meal was not worth $150. I can't recommend this restaurant and I would never go back. Just as a point of Reference, I am a retired executive chef and I know Food.

Located on the first floor of the historic hotel, the Winchester Inn.... The experience starts with historic charm. Reservations required, as word has gotten out about the magic. Sit outside at a bistro set surrounded by gardens, or inside next to windows that extend to the ceiling so you can still enjoy the beauty of the nature. The soft lighting sets the scene, the atmosphere is lively, and the service makes you feel like royalty. The steak tartare was the best I have ever had. Every bite demanded to be savored. We didn't want each mouth watering course to end, but we were genuinely excited for the next course. The food presentation was art, the flavors were thoughtfully put together, and just when we thought things couldn't get better - our server brought out the next dish. Well done. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

We visited Alchemy for a couple drinks and some snacks after work on a Thursday. The bar had a healthy amount of customers with still room for some more Drinks: the drinks were phenomenal. Very unique flavors, clearly not being stingy on the contents. Beautifully crafted and quick as well. Some of the cocktails were reasonably priced but some got a little higher than I believe a cocktail should be. (A few were $12, most were $16, and one was $18 if my memory serves but take that last one with a grain of salt) Food: the pomme frites were delicious with a ketchup that was clearly higher quality and a lemony dip for the second. These were $9 but they had truffles and garlic (?) in them and were very full of flavor so the price was worth it for a nice appetizer Located in a beautiful house like building, I look forward to trying dinner here

Cute restaurant and love the ambience. Service was great as well. The starters were really good but the main entrees were a disappointment. I got the curried mussels good but the congee was super salty that I couldn't go in for another bite. My friend got the duck. It was a little tough and she thought the noddles were salty as well. 100% recommend the starters-- mushroom mushroom, the cauliflower-roasted poblano soup, scallops and ravioli was good. Favorite was the mushroom, mushroom. The pineapple express drink was good too.

Sat above the bar. Cozy and amazing view of the cocktails being made. Bread and housemade butters were worth every carb. Best scallops we've ever had-cooked perfectly (Gordon Ramsay would not have been disappointed). Octopus was charred and dressed beautifully with vinaigrette and cucumbers.

We absolutely loved our date night here! Highly Recommend and can't wait to go back! The cocktails were delicious and we were impressed by the service.

We were really hoping for an wonderful experience, but were disappointed on several levels. First of all, our foodie playground is Napa/Sonoma, so we set the bar pretty high for an exceptional experience as many of the reviews implied. For $250, we expected fabulous results. We got there 10 minutes before our 6:15PM reservation and were shooed away by the bar tender to come back -- there was another employee drinking a glass of wine at the bar and plenty of room for the 2 of us. The bartender explained that they were serving a private party and were closed, but we assured him we did have a reservation. The restaurant is on a steep hill, and we were shocked to have been sent away when it would have been so easy to serve us a few drinks before dinner instead of walking down the hill to find a cocktail lounge. Small ding, but set the tone. The service was very good, no complaints there. Our table was well set in a cozy area, so the ambiance and environment created good containment for a great meal experience. I ordered the soup, and my husband ordered the mushroom appetizer. Both were made from the same consommé -- a beef stock with soy sauce and mushroom flavors. The soup had some julienned snap peas with pieces of turnip -- not anything to get excited about, and was rather dull. The mushroom dish had some very tasty porcini flan which we both enjoyed. The main dishes were both uneventful and sadly underwhelming. The halibut, prepared beautifully with a flavorful sauce was very much on the dry side, not moist at all, ugh. My husband's dish -- the duck fettuccini was in the same consommé broth as the soup and mushroom appetizer -- it was rather thin and soupy; although the pasta was good, the dish didn't offer a good reunion with the duck and failed to please our longing for a flavorful and eventful dish. I really was hopping for a better experience and won't be returning.

I have heard rave reviews from fellow Southern Oregon peeps about this place and I was disappointed. The ambiance is very charming and warm, which sets you up to think it will be a good dining experience. The service took a long time. The food was lacking in flavor. I had the "mushroom mushroom" for an appetizer: little to no flavor. I had the Osso buco for an entree. It was on the drier side and also lacked in flavor. I just did not see what the hype was all about.

Ashtonishing! Had a really awesome memorable dinner, primarily of "small plates" five appetisers with one entree among the three of us. Had a table in a 'two table' room and the other table finished shortly after we arrived...the waiter was outstanding in pacing the dishes on his own volition so we had the caesar salad and mushroom flan first, followed by bone marrow, morels and angel hair, steak tartare...and the salt island mussels entree last...each dish just wonderful...and the pacing was not rushed at all, just right there are many different rooms to the restaurant as well as outdoor options can't recommend enough from our one experience...best meal out overall I've had in some years based on food and ambience and the service

Not our first time, but the food was excellent! My husband ordered the Canary Rockfish. Decided to order something different and it was delicious. A nice white fish served on a bed of spatzle with a bure blanc sauce. I had the filet mignon (medium) that was topped with a chimchurri and it was done perfectly. Had a side of roasted cauliflower that was very good. We also had a simple salad with the homemade ranch dressing. The salad was very good, my only critique was that they pre-peppered the salad, which was quite a bit of pepper and I am not a fan of pepper. We also enjoyed a couple of dirty martinis, and they were very generous with the gin (perfect). They hit the mark again, thank you.

Fantastic cuisine. Perfectly prepared entrees with delicious appetizers. Gorgeous gardens to enjoy while you partake.

Very disappointed with nearly the whole experience at this reputable restaurant. Our hostess was lovely, but the rest of the evening was not. Service was very spotty, the pacing pretty horrible and the portions (for the price) were ridiculous. Thought 'nouvelle cuisine' had run its course, but not here. While the plates 'looked' pretty, the food seemed pretentious and certainly not filling. We're not snobs by any stretch, but would not recommend Alchemy.

IF you are a Foodie, this place is for YOU! Plan on ~2 hours from the time you are seated for a full dinner experience. The outdoor dining option worked out well for us on a warm summer night. Let's get down to the food: I cook A LOT! I pride myself of cooking a wide variety of dishes from all over the world and I like to use unique ingredients, proteins and spices not typically used in the average household. That being said, I don't mind paying a little more for such a unique dining experience done with high end ingredients and unmatched skill. 5 -stars for the FOOD, 4-stars because it's kinda pricey and not great for families or larger groups (in my opinion). A special treat for sure! Things that I could not easily replicate from home: From the charcuterie board: Every item was delicious, but the Chicken Liver & Foie Mousse topped with charred onion compote... Holy smokes! I used my finger to wipe the dish *Wow and YUM* The house-made marmalade also stood out as a table Favorite. Starter: If I had to pick just one thing, I would order the Foie Gras Thunderdome again. It was presented with a glass dome filled with smoke (instagram worthy). The Foie Gras was good (unique and hard to find), but I would say the pairing of the huckleberry sauce was what made this dish stand out for me. More huckleberry sauce please! :D Entrees: Crispy Duck Leg Confit served with oyster mushrooms was outstanding! The attention to detail and balance of flavors were perfect. Not sure what the sauce was, but if I had bread there would not have been so much as a smudge of sauce left on the plate. I'm a big fan of this dish and I would not change a thing. Dry Aged Ribeye Steak was freakin' delicious. I make a lot of ribeye steaks (my favorite cut of steak), but I can't recall any of my steaks having such a unique flavor profile and it was exceptionally tender (no knife needed); the Butcher Shop in Eagle Point comes kind of close, but you have to cook it yourself :P. The bone marrow butter was delicious and would be great as a side dish and served with warm bread. Dessert: After tasting a little of everything, I would re-order the Chocolate Fondant with passion-fruit sauce topped with bits of honeycomb. The description does NOT do this incredibly delectable dessert justice. Super rich, creamy and not overly sweet. I would most definitely pair this with their drip coffee (they use our local Rogue Valley roasting company). If you like chocolate, you will not want to share this dessert! In Summary: Outdoor garden at night is ideal of a warm summer night. Service by Amber was good, nice pace for a small group, might be too slow if you were going to OSF after. A little pricey for a regular night out, but most definitely where I would go for a special occasion, date night, to impress out of town guests OR to treat your foodie friends to a instagram worthy dining experience. *Special note the to pastry chef/artist: DAMN, you need to open your own shop!

This was the best dining experience I had on my Ashland vacation. Our server was amazing. All the food was perfect. We had multiple small dishes to share on a lovely date night and the server kept the pace slow and steady. Drinks were artful and delicious. I have mixed feelings about starting our trip there because nothing else measured up. I can't wait to go back!

Not enough superlatives to describe how exquisitely divine the dining experience is at Alchemy. I had a perfectly cooked halibut in a miso-based broth that I wanted to slurp up, manners be damned! Spouse had a perfectly cooked rare and tender filet mignon. Alchemy's Caesar 'stack' would be childishly comical in its frizziness were it not for the fact that it's also a really nicely prepared 'adult' Caesar salad. The wait staff has settled in after post-C199 shutdown and are the same knoweldgeable and attentive folks who have spoiled all of us with their nuanced service for many years. Oh yes, right now a delicious domestic champagne heads up the excellent wine list and was just the right way to being our wedding anniversary dinner. Yum!

The food, the service and the ambiance was impeccable. Our party of four enjoyed the charcuterie board , the artisan local bread, the clam chowder soup, the Chef's Alchemy which was a scrumptious quinoa and tabouleh dish, the miso marinated pacific cod, and the co glazed octopus. We walked away feeling like it was the perfect experience. We have been coming here for years and have never have been disappointed.

This is a true dining experience with multiple courses. Drinks are top notch and Service was what everyone should strive to be.

LOVED this place! Reservations are strongly recommended as it is clearly popular with locals and tourists alike. Bit slow to get the first cocktails out but they were very busy and well worth the wait. (Nice array of creative and delicious drinks--we tried 4 different drinks and loved them all.) Started with charcuterie plate which was yummy. I had the halibut and he had the salmon. Excellent preparation and plenty of food. Split a dessert and waddled out of there. But on the spendy side but worth every penny!

Food, Service, Ambiance... idk what's tops what. Excellent all around. Didn't take pics but had the soup special (bbq pork belly), XLB dumplings, XO octopus, and Ribeye... the last two dishes in particular were phenomenal. Drinks, definitely try the It takes 2 to Mango for flavor and the Sake 2 Me for something clean sweet and refreshing. And the amazing service brought food and drink and atmosphere all together. Pro tip: sat on the outside patio area and got to choose from restaurant and bar menu.

This gem is recommended as one of the best restaurants in Ashland, and for good reason! During a recent visit my dad and I had the pleasure of dining here before our play. We had a nice early reservation at 5:45 and got to sit at the cutest little outdoor table in a grotto above the patio. The setting is gorgeous, in a well-maintained garden outside a historic house that makes up the Winchester Inn. The Aw, Bell Naw! cocktail is one of the best I've ever had. We started with the Simple Salad, grilled pork belly and seasonal gazpacho. Everything was amazing and fresh, but the pork belly and gazpacho were stand-outs. For our main courses we had the cod and stuffed squash. It was such an amazing experience that I made reservations for an outdoor table when I took my husband back to Ashland a few months later. Unfortunately, they were running a limited menu on my second visit (not sure why), which was disappointing. No pork belly, which I had been looking forward to, and no scallops or duck leg, which I had hoped to try. Instead, we got the octopus to start - maybe the best octopus I've ever had, but a very tiny portion - and had the Simple Salad, cod and squash (it was just as good the second time around!) I also got to reacquaint myself with the Aw, Bell Naw! Unfortunately, perhaps because of the menu, my husband wasn't quite as blown away with Alchemy as my father and I had been. He felt that the portions were small and overpriced, which is valid - I just tend to blow money on vacation dinners without thinking about it Still, I would come back, if I could dine outside and confirm that the full menu was available! This place is tucked away in a B&B, The Winchester Inn, and it's a hidden jewel. To paraphrase Raymond Chandler, it's the kind of food a Bishop would put his foot through a stained glass window for. The flavors are exquisite, especially the burrata cheese/pickled beet appetizer. They have an innovatively-named collection of cocktails - I had the Katy Peary daiquiri - and again, the flavors were perfectly blended. In addition to the incredible flavors, the foods are plated like works of art. (See pictures.) This is not a Denny's - the entrees are in the $30 range - but this is extraordinary food, worth every penny. Service was over-the-top, making the meal that much more enjoyable. If you're coming to Ashland and love Michael Mina-level food, do not miss this place!

DATE NIGHT!!!! I've been here twice and each time is so special. The food is prepared so artistically and with TLC and it also tastes good! I came here recently to celebrate my guest's milestone and they went the extra mile to make him feel special. The staff were so kind and attentive. All of the dishes were impeccable and the desserts were all delicious.

Very creative menu, chose the restaurant because everything looked good and the wine list had great depth and a more than a few values. Service was top notch on a very busy night. Set in an old Victorian home, the dining room is very comfortable. We ordered 3 starter and 2 main course, paired each with something from the WBTG list and never felt rushed, each course was served at a very comfortable pace.

By far the best dinning experience during my 1-week visit to Ashland. As you may know, Ashland is a pretty low-key place. Compared to other restaurants in the area, Alchemy is a much fancier restaurant. The food was overall great, and the service polite and professional. Food Among the three entrées we ordered, the sous vide steak was definitely the best. Both the flavor and the texture were on point. The rack of lamb wasn't bad, but we found the sauce to be a bit too sweet to our liking. The pasta dish my son ordered, one of the specials, was ok. I thought both the cheese plate and the charcuterie plate were pretty good, but nothing to brag about. The cheese plate could use more cheese, though. Service Our waiter was polite and professional. He knew the menu very well and was knowledgable about wine. Seating and Reservation Tip + If you'd like to order from the dinner menu, you need to be seated inside. Since the restaurant is inside a big Victorian style house, the ambience would be very different depending on which room you'll be seated in. I recommend one of the rooms that look out the garden. That said, although you can make a reservation from the restaurant website (OpenTable), I suggest that you call and make a specific request. + If you're seated outside, you can only order from the bistro menu. So, it would be much more casual. COVID-19 Measures + As mandated by the state, all the restaurant employees and the guests must wear face coverings. + The tables are spaced out enough to keep social distance. - They do NOT check your temperature (if it matters to you). I've eaten here several times. I visit Ashland twice a year (with a big COVID gap) most years to attend OSF with friends and family. When I'm in town with friends, this is my single biggest solo vacation (away from Mom duty at home), and we tend to focus on great theatre and fine dining. In 2023, I was one member of a party of seven. Our server--a woman whose name I've forgotten--was very skilled. She handled our group with aplomb, from pre-dinner drinks to dessert. We had theatre tickets for 20:00, and, sometimes in the past, restaurants have struggled to feed us in a timely way. There was no timing issue in 2023. In fact, I noticed that I had consistently better servers at Ashland restaurants (Alchemy, Hearsay, and Larks, in particular) than I've been experiencing in the Boston area post-pandemic. Maybe Southern Oregon did a better job keeping its trained waitstaff between 2020 and today? I did note that the menu listed bread and butter as an extra charge item. It was clearly stated on the menu, so shouldn't have surprised another reviewer. Given the number of people who avoid gluten and carbs, I find this a reasonable approach. The bread provided was truly exceptional in taste, and the trio of butters supplied with it were a hit with our table. We re-ordered a second basket of bread in the middle of the meal as several people wanted it to sop up delicious sauces from entrees. I had the duck confit, and my serving was prepared to my liking. The tomato soup was divine! If dining at Larks during the same visit to Ashland, I'd recommend having a burrata and tomato appetizer there instead, but it was also very good at Alchemy. Seven of us enjoyed lovely meals at Alchemy over Labor Day weekend in 2023, including several veg-/pescetarians. This is a fine dining restaurant whose standards meet my expectations from before COVID ravaged service industries. I will eat here again, and I always think I might try the Inn, too, given how much I enjoy the restaurant...

$$$$$$$$$$$$ x a million... Please bring back the Happy Hour, so normal people can pretend like we can afford to eat at this place. I took my mom here for her birthday dinner, and she ordered the special without knowing the price: [2] scallops. Cost? $52. For two scallops. She was absolutely mortified when the bill came. I had the $20 smash burger (no sides) and the $9 green papaya salad, we each had a glass of white wine, and our total (before Ashland tax and tip) was $105. Yikes. Worst part is that we both left hungry. PS - a side of fries is $14.

Alchemy is one of our favorite restaurants in Ashland. The atmosphere, the drinks and the hospitality staff are amazing! The only thing that is a hit or miss is the food. My wife and I have tried several dishes and most are quite delicious but occasionally a dish would be brought out that we would just describe as mediocre. For example, I ordered the scallop appetizer. Paying $27 for 2 small, slightly burnt scallops made us question the kitchen staff that would allow this dish to be sent out. I understand that sometimes a restaurant kitchen can be hectic at times but every dish should be checked before leaving the kitchen. Maybe I've watched too many episodes of Hell's Kitchen but if I'm spending over $200 for dinner, I should expect my food to be right every time.

Beautiful bar, must make reservations! The food was delicious, we ordered the octopus, the ribeye and the miso cod. Everything was cooked to perfection and the staff was friendly. This is a slower environment so allow 2 hours for dinner. The bartenders are magicians, take a seat and be amazed!

Exquisite location, ambience, service, and wines by the glass! Unfortunately the duck confit was over cooked until wooden, dry and leathery. The chopped caesar salad was about 1 cup of lettuce. Haute Cuisine small portions, with not so tiny prices. They charged for bread and butter for the table, which should be a complimentary gesture of good will. They are trying too hard for special interpretations of traditional dishes (strawberry rhubarb parfait, anyone?) in the process, the flavor and value is lost in favor of preciousness and pretentiousness.

Entrees were overpriced and small. Service was spotty and after making a reservation months ago we were seated in the darkest room with no windows--table was broken. Better to sit in the windowed bar or outside in the summer, it appears. Ambiance was just ok---we won't be back given so many other options in town.

Amazing food with lackadaisical service. We had several delays over the course of our meal. Seating was not available until 30 minutes after our reservation time. We didn't meet our server for 20 minutes after being seated and she was otherwise MIA for much of the meal. Staff was courteous and kind but I would avoid eating here if you have other evening plans. The food was delicious. Foie gras starter was a highlight, as was the ribeye entree. The steak had an out-of-this-world crust that I have not encountered on other traditional steaks. It was accompanied by an au jus that took it to another level. Highly recommend. The menu had a lot of intriguing options that would normally draw me back for more dinners. However, I'm not too excited to return due to the quality of service, especially considering cost.

From the moment we walked in, exactly what we had hoped for for a special birthday dinner! Had the steak tartare & mini Wellingtons, along with an excellent and affordable bottle of local Cabernet - Pebblestone 2012. Shared both the salad & soup midway - they were both very good, but not as fabulous as other courses.

An incredible dining experience! Everything was absolute perfection, from the romantic outdoor patio on a cool early fall evening, to the creative cocktail menu, and of course, arguably the most delicious food in Ashland. Highly recommend the scallop appetizer if available. Main courses: the lightest, most flavorful cod ever, or the rich, flavorful osso bucco. Spectacular desserts- lemon tart or pumpkin flan. Service was perfect, super friendly and attentive. Special shout out to our server Walker, she was so sweet, friendly, funny and efficient. We will definitely be back!

I just recently moved hear but Alchemy restaurant and bar is an excellent place for dinner, I mean the food is great, the servers are very friendly, and it is just very relaxing in there!

The food was good, but the quality and caliber and flavors of the entrees was not the same level as the entree price point (i.e. $45 for lamb shank). Additionally, the ambiance was nice, but oddly some of the furnishings like table and chairs were not premium, but the food prices were very premium. Overall, I was expecting a lot, and left disappointed and still hungry as the portions were small.

Love this restaurant. Great food and service. The chef is amazing. One of our best meals ever. Loved our waiter.

So happy to be back at Alchemy. Excellent food plus excellent service what else could you have for. Enjoying the evening sitting outdoors with the breeze blowing softly and the hum of humans socializing around us.

One word: phenomenal. My compliments to the chef. Everything we had here was delicious and the plating was on point. Lamb was some of the best I've ever had and the desert... Well, a photo is worth a thousand words.

The food was so amazing! From the "simple" salad to the filet mignon! Delish! Our server was witty and attentive. And it's in an old Victorian house! Love!

This place has it all! Great food, service, and ambience. Every dish and drink from appetizer to dessert did not disappoint. When you only have a chance for one special night out while in Ashland, you want it to be superb and Alchemy will make your night golden.

My dad and I were very excited for the lamb and mussels. They were delicious and did not disappoint! The service was excellent as well, very friendly. They also had a gazpacho with a tomato base and it was amazing. Highly recommend. Great atmosphere in a bed and breakfast as well. We will be back!

This place used to have something good going for it. Last Time I went, I ordered fish, which came chewy (either it wasn't fresh, or it was overcooked) and lukewarm. Then I told the waiter, who acted as though nothing was wrong and then very weirdly asked if I would like to send it back, after I said that I wanted to send it back after I first notified him it was chewy. Then I ordered the burger, medium rare... The inside was pink on one half of it, and red and wet in the middle, and on the other half it was cooked medium with no pink, and the burger wasn't rested so it dumped all its juices onto the lower bun, literally turning it to mush, like when you go to a baseball game and the hot dogs they throw at you in aluminum foil was sitting too long so the bun was mush. Or maybe they saw I was ordering a second entree so they thought I was a speed eater and they thought to wet the bun for me so I could eat it faster. They comped the fish... but not without a weirdly tense convo with the waiter. I never thought I'd say this, but the burger was better years ago when they used American cheese, but not cus of the cheese, it was just because the burgers were Reliably tasty and cooked/prepared well. Like burger 101 is resting the burger so it doesn't dump all the juices, and i don't know how they managed to cook it unevenly, it's a burger I will say that the scallops were great, though the sauce was meh. The charcuterie board was blah, all I remember about it is that the jam was overbearing for both me and my date.

Didn't really like the burger (but that is more a personal thing - the worchestire just made it a bit too vinegar tasting) - but the fries are to die for! ... The lamb osso bucco is phenomenal (my husband says it's the best he's ever had!). We didn't order it, but the Caesar salad also looks amazing and we'll definitely order it the next time. The service and ambiance can't be beat!

This is for the bar only. Husband and I stopped in for a pre-dinner cocktail. I handed the bartender the challenge of creating a low-alcohol (as opposed to a mocktail) vodka cocktail that was lemon-forward and summery. He created a beautiful blush drink in a coupe glass that had just the right amount of strawberry and lemon twist to add a lovely flavor without turning it too sweet! Husband had a rye Old Fashioned that had a beautiful orange twist and Luxardo cherry. Beautiful ambience looking at the inn's garden and one of its cottages with wonderful dinner smells wafting through. We will be back to try the food as well next time!

Wow! This review is about the Bar. The craft cocktails are as good as it gets. ANYWHERE. To start out, my wife ordered a Neptune's New Suit and I got the Aphrodite's Delight. I wasn't sure about one of the ingredients in my cocktail and the bartender described the taste profile perfectly. (see picture) They had a dealers choice option on the menu which means that the bartender has a conversation with you about flavor profiles that you enjoy and then they come up with a drink for you. If a bar has this option, that means that the bartender takes a lot of pride in their craft and you should take advantage of it. I forget the names of the drinks that she then brought out but they were both spectacular! Since we still had a few minutes before our dinner reservation elsewhere, I partook in their Alchemist Martini which she described as a Fifty Fifty Martini. It was delicious. We went here on a Friday night and were allowed to sit anywhere there was a table with chairs. In the time of covid, the seating arrangements were nicely spaced and we felt comfortable. We've planned vacations around what bars we will visit. We've been to multiple best bar in the world winners. I have over 30 books on the subject of cocktails, more than 80 liquor & liqueur bottles, and at least 25 bitters at home so I would consider myself a cocktail enthusiast. If you don't like the cocktails here, you should stick to water.

The food is excellent here. You can tell that they take great care of how things are to be prepared as this has a French influence. Good wine selection although I'm not that far advanced in my wine knowledge, the Bordeaux was intense. I'm glad I experienced it. Cocktails are on point. Staff is friendly enough. The place is gorgeous in and out. I was here last summer. I had the steak and truffle pom frits. My date was hot, too so the overall experience was on point. Hehe
