33 Best Restaurants in Toronto, From Québécois to Sushi | Condé Nast Traveler

"It shouldn’t come as a surprise that this restaurant is a bit of a scene: It’s run by renowned local chef Patrick Kriss (of Alo Restaurant), and it’s part of the Ace Hotel, which opened in 2022. That being said, don’t mistake this for some forgettable see-and-be-seen spot, or just another nondescript hotel restaurant. In the relatively short time it’s been open, Alder has ensconced itself as a neighborhood fixture and local favorite, attracting some of Toronto’s coolest residents with its sleek design (think soaring concrete and polished wood) and Mediterranean menu (which benefits from a wood-fired grill). Come here in a group, order some shareable plates for the table (the potato flatbread is a highlight), pout over an Ace Martini, and you’ll be blending in with the Torontonians in no time." - Todd Plummer

"The stylish Ace hotel scored big when the industrious Chef Patrick Kriss moved into the ground level. The restaurant is a cool mix of dark brick floors, sleek wood finishes and large windows that usher in radiant beams of sunlight. And true to everything that the Alo Food Group does, expect a serious kitchen brigade and equally serious cooking. There’s a lot to like on this Mediterranean menu. Beef carpaccio is a crowd-pleaser, while the cucumber salad is a sleeper hit festooned with shaved fennel, dukkah, and hazelnuts. Stacks of firewood in the dining room is a clue to hone-in on proteins like roast chicken, Australian lamb, and a bone-in strip loin. Dessert is a must, especially if the astoundingly light coconut cream pie is still around." - Michelin Inspector

MICHELIN Guide Inspectors 9 Favorite Desserts of 2023

"We didn’t think we’d make much of a dent but the whole thing disappeared like a magic trick. The macadamia crust is buttery, crumbly and light, as is the coconut cream, chantilly cream and the garnish, which is a torrent of shaved white chocolate and dark chocolate that has been pressed with hazelnut crust. This is impressively light. We hope it never leaves the menu!" - The MICHELIN Guide
