"This fine-dining destination in Union celebrates all things Hood Canal, with gems like spot prawns, fish, Dungeness crab, and some oysters and clams from the resort's own beach just a few steps away. There’s an all-day menu, but dinner is the real draw, with its carefully composed plates and superb wine list. Recent renovations closed the restaurant (it reopens June 3), but in the meantime, check out the resort’s expanded dining options, like brunch or dinner served on the terrace." - Megan Hill, Mark Van Streefkerk

My family rented several cottages here in June 2024. First, the good: The location is beautiful! I love that you can swim in Hood Canal but that there's also a pool, and the pool is really amazing -- windows looking out on the water that can open, saline, lots of tropical plants, hours for families but also some reserved for just adults. I also loved that we could bring our dog (for a fee). The grounds are well-landscaped and well maintained. Staff are friendly, although not necessarily knowledgable -- we got different information depending on who we asked about things over and over again.||The less-good: The cottages were tidy, but I wouldn't call them clean. There were white splatters on the couch, I stepped on a rock on the carpet in the main living area, my dog found random chip crumbs on the floor, the stovetop/kitchen area stank of bacon, and it didn't look like the the top of the fridge, the microwave, or the stove were clean, plus there was a ton of food stuck between the stove/range and counters. There was dust and cobwebs on the light fixture hanging directly over the kitchen table.||Dishes are in the dishwasher when you arrive, and while they leave a note saying they'll put them away for you if you ask, it seems like they should just have it done, given how expensive these units are (around $2,300 for our cottage for 3 nights).||We had paid something like $30/day for a pet fee but had to go ask for a dog bowl and dog bed. We also had to go ask for a TV remote that worked. We had a rude awakening our first morning because someone had set an alarm for 6am on one of the clocks. Cables were hanging below TVs, when it only takes a little velcro to clean them up! Although the base rate was the same for pet cottages and regular cottages, the pet cottages had a queen and king bed, whereas the regular cottages had 2 king beds.||The restaurants are decent, but as others have noted, they're expensive for what you get -- on the patio, this means $8 for a beer and $17 basic cocktails that arrive in plastic cups, and $15-20 basic sandwiches; or a $9 bottle of kombucha and $10 gas station burritos from the Drinkery counter.||We stayed during the week but had to contend with a wedding on a Thursday evening that also had a breakfast for their guests on the cottage lawn on Friday morning (so large trucks blocked the water view part of this time, and we didn't have full use of the lawn in front of our cottages).||There was also a planned power outage with the public utility that was supposed to last "a matter of minutes," according to to Alderbrook, but that lasted 20 minutes one evening and 25 minutes the next morning; it also wiped out TV service and that wasn't corrected despite phone calls to the front desk, nor did they offer anything in return.||All of the above issues are relatively small -- and our experience was still overall really good -- but for the price to stay here, we expected a little better.

This place is beautiful. The views are gorgeous. The food is fabulous (if a bit pricey, but it's a resort, so that's to be expected). The staff is beyond friendly and helpful. The only thing keeping this resort from getting a five star rating from me is the toilet paper. Hear me out. It's cheap toilet paper that disintegrates when it comes into contact with fluids. It disintegrates while being used, if you get my drift. Obviously, a man handles this aspect of resort management. A woman would never choose this toilet paper, given how we use it.

We came to Alderbrook for a weekend getaway with our 5-month old puppy and I will say that I would definitely return. The property is just beautiful and small enough to feel like a boutique experience. We stayed in a first floor room with our pup and found the room to be very comfortable. The only suggestion I would make would be to put a small dining table in the first floor rooms, as they're typically designated for people bringing pets and since pets aren't allowed in the restaurant, you either have to get take out food from the restaurant and eat in the lobby or around the property, or room service, and the TV trays provided in the rooms don't make for a super-comfortable in-room dining experience. Also, the furniture felt a bid dated. In terms of cleanliness, the rooms could use some additional dusting around light fixtures but otherwise, the room felt clean and comfortable.||One more note on the rooms: if you're bringing a pet, please call in advance to check if there's anything going on in the ballroom that shares a hallway with the rooms. There was a fundraising gala the same night we were there and if you're hoping for an early bed time, you're not going to get it. We were kept up by the live auction and activity in the ballroom until about 10:30pm that Saturday night. Not a big deal but if you're hoping to get a lot of sleep, do check in advance that there's nothing planned for that ballroom.||The hotel staff were super-kind to our little puppy and you could feel the intentionality around dogs being welcome.||I would say in terms of dining, the food did feel overpriced but everything we ordered was decent. As an example: the meat and cheese plate featured only 2 different pre-sliced cheeses (with not all that different taste profiles) and the accompaniments were very basic: dried figs and dried cranberries. Again, not a huge deal but for the price point it would have been nice to have a little more "oomph" there. ||Otherwise, we'll definitely return for a quick getaway from Seattle!

This is such a beautiful resort. The location is amazing. The rooms are comfortable and the soaking tubs are amazing. Staff are friendly and professional. The food is delicious. Chef is even willing to make accommodations for those with dietary restrictions. The oyster are fresh and the desserts are yummy.

Amazing spa. Got an aloe wrap and it was well worth what i paid for it. Beautiful property on the water with beach view. Very relaxing dry and wet saunas available with every spa purchase. Such friendly staff, it was the relaxation i needed. I will be back to rent their cottages with my family.

Alderwood is an older resort. It was built during a time when people were smaller. The nostalgic architecture is amazing! Natural and man-made sound is used to create privacy in every nook and cranny. From the Forrest to the dock are paths to explore. There are balconies with chairs or lounge chairs on the lawn to enjoy the fresh air any time of the day. The employees are full of smiles and go over the top to serve. They spend time to listen and are quick to resolve any inconsistencies. Then there's the resort style food, bar service, gift shop, lots of parking, and handicap accommodation! My goodness! So many nicely designed considerations for the guests. Just come, give up your everyday stresses, and restore your bones by the water!

We moved to Olympia 3 years ago to be closer to our Grandchildren and had heard about Alderbrook, so we made a day trip there. The resort is spectacular. It is located on the water and has a great view of the Olympic Mountains. The buildings are beautiful and there are a ton of activities for all ages. The lodging is expensive, but the food and drinks seemed reasonable. We have a significant wedding anniversary approaching in a few months and plan on staying there for it.

Google
Beautiful resort with wonderful amenities located on the hood canal. We loved the pool/hot tub, the little events they had on site such as beer/wine tasting, resident cats, camp fire and more. One big challenge which was not resolved was the location of our cottage. It was never quiet or private as there were workers (staff as well as maintenance), neighbors partying late or who had dogs and then the parking lot which peered right into our rooms. If you have a baby or little one with you be prepared to have them awakened or startled. Particularly number 11. Hope to have a better stay next time.

Yelp
My wife and I went in for breakfast on a Friday morning. Very peaceful and not crowded at all. The breakfast tasted fresh and delicious. The Hood Canal Hash was very good, the fried oysters were perfectly cooked. The eggs Benni were perfectly cooked as well. Definitely will be coming back.

Yelp
We had a really lovely stay at the Alderbrook. We loved walking around the gorgeous grounds and sitting by the outside fire, having a few drinks. We swam in the pool and soaked in the hottub as well. Everything is super clean and well maintained. We didnt get a chance to eat there but we loved looking around the gift shop. Our room was gorgeous, well appointed, clean, comfortable, with a beautiful view. Every employee we encountered was friendly, attentive, and helpful.

Yelp
My best friend and I had a girls day at Alderbrook. We had a great time both having massages and hot oil scalp treatments. Let me tell you it was WELL worth it! My masseuse Roann was attentive and worked with me to give me the best possible experience. No complaints on the spa at all! We loved the sauna, steam room, and pool. We topped off or relaxing day with a meal at the waterfront restaurant with some truly delicious food. I cannot recommend Alderbrook more!

Yelp
Our 3 nights at Alderbrook were absolutely amazing - one of the best getaways we have had in a while! How have I not been to the Hood Canal before now? Unfortunately the outdoor patio was closed due to 95 degree heat, but that didn't deter us... we loved the east hikes through the woods up to the golf course... we had access to a boat, but the Hood Canal is spectacularly beautiful. So peaceful, glass smooth water that is 75 degrees! Who knew? If you don't have a boat like we did, they have all sorts of paddle boards, pedal boats, electric boats, etc to go exploring. The food at the restaurant was good but not great, but everything was top tier, especially service around the resort. The lobby is a fabulous place to hang out and play a game with huge windows and comfortable chairs. Did I mention harbor seals? We WILL be back

Yelp
Beautiful location and delicious restaurant, also has Beautiful trails . I highly recommend.

Yelp
Service was amazing, everyone was so nice and understanding of your privacy, food tasted amazing for breakfast lunch and dinner. Definitely recommend coming here

Yelp
Getting there: We were driving from downtown Seattle. With all the ferry issues, we decided to drive. It was a little over one hour and 40 minutes from Pioneer Square to Union, WA via Tacoma. Though it was rainy and a bit chilly, we had a wonderful relaxing weekend at the Alderbrook Resort & Spa. Check-in was efficient and everyone was friendly and welcoming. We spent 3 nights in a room facing the courtyard on the first floor near the spa in a pet friendly room. It was $30/night to have our furry kid. Two dog bowls and a bed were provided. There was a small in-room refrigerator where we stored his dog food. (no microwave) I did see an option to order dog food from the resort. It sounded pretty good! In less soggy weather, we would have enjoyed sitting just outside our room or near the outside gas fireplace adjacent to the spa to enjoy the chilly air and beautiful Fall colors. The room had a great deep soaking tub for relaxing (take bath salts or buy some in the gift shop if you forget). I thought the room was nicely furnished. I loved the window seat with big pillow cushions to snuggle up and read. There was a large screen TV, but we kept it mostly off to relax. I did appreciate all the electrical outlets and the clock with plug ins to charge up your electronics. We're used to living in a high-rise, so it was a "vacation" to just open the door to the courtyard so our little dog could do a quick pee in the middle of the night. There are gas fireplaces and fire pits to enjoy in non-rainy weather. Lots of kids/adults seemed to enjoy the indoor pool (don't forget your suit!). We did not make use of the spa amenities but I read that they have a steam room/sauna which sounded great. Staff: Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Food wise: There are lots of options. Solid mochas/carmel macchiatos from the Drinkery behind the front reception. We had takeout (chicken sandwich and a burger) that first night in our room to avoid our dog from freaking out at being left alone in the room. We had two very enjoyable meals at the restaurant. Steak the first night and I had a humongous and utterly delicious pork chop the next night. (Tip: good for 2 people with just enough left over as a treat for your furry baby.) Nearby: The Hook & Fork is associated with Alderbrook is a great lunch spot just a couple of miles up the road. A tip: We also drove 40 minutes to Hama Hama for lunch as a short excursion from the resort if you're looking for something to do. Overall: Very lovely for a low key weekend to give the brain a break from hectic city life or just life with all of the usual to-dos that never end.

Yelp
Alderbrook gives me 1960s Dirty Dancing resort vibes every time I visit and I am not mad about it. I have stayed at Alderbrook as a guest as well as a professional organizing a board retreat for my work. The staff from front of the back the house to front are always attentive, knowledgeable, kind, and quick to react and fulfill requests if possible. There are many areas for sitting, relaxing, and staring at the gorgeous scenery. The indoor pool and hot tub is one of my favorite features. You can be in the pool while staring out over the inlet and watching the sunset. The rooms are comfortable and meet all of the needs I usually have when visiting including the fabulously deep tub in the rooms. They have fantastic cocktails, wine selection, and the fire pits are made for chatting and hanging out in the dusk of the day. Asking front of house staff about any special events that may be going on is a must! They almost always have something fun on the activities calendar including a telescope to see the stars, yoga, and different hikes that the family might enjoy. I do recommend booking out as far as you are able to. Alderbrook DOES book out especially during the summer so book in March if you can!

Yelp
It is so relaxing to be at a beautiful and serene property. Check in n was smooth and easy. Room is absolutely divine and clean. We opted for the double pet room located on courtyard level. Weather wasn't sunny so I spent most of the time lounging at the lobby and pool. Would definitely recommend and come back again.

Yelp
Beautiful Place, terrible food but great cocktails. Love the property and all of the amenities rooms are very clean and beautiful, but your standards in making food for your customers needs alot of work. I have had fabulous meals here before and many times but in the past 12 months it has been really bad get some help .

Yelp
Alderbrook Resort has become a special place for my family over the years. As a landscape photography hobbyist, I loved the tranquil and beautiful scenery the resort provides. When the sky is blue and the mountains reveal their snow covered tops, the scenery you see absolutely gorgeous and the picture that I captured for one of those moments now hangs in my home. The foggy weather also provides dramatic scenery as well. There are so many photographic opportunities around the resort. Their pool is huge, enclosed, and amazing. Their hot tub is also wonderful. Rooms are modern, clean, and well maintained. We love their food in the dining room. We love Alder and Brook (resident cats). We love this place. And it's less than 2-hour-drive away from Seattle!

Yelp
We celebrated our one year anniversary and babymoon here on 1/1 and it was perfect. This resort is beautiful, clean, and had all the right touches to make us want to come back. The lobby has a big rustic fireplace with tons of seating. They had free hot cocoa and organs as well. We stayed in the Kings room with the water view and upon arrival we were greeted with a plate of chocolate covered strawberries for our celebration. The view was beautiful, the bed was comfy, the soaps were nice and they even had robes and slippers to borrow. Before dinner we had time to check out the grounds including the fire pits, and dock and even one of the little nature trails. We'd love to come back during the nicer weather to check out the water a bit more. They have multiple outdoor fire pits and tons of seating to enjoy the grounds. Dinner was lovely. I ordered the risotto and added prawns. My hubby had the duck and added mushrooms. To top it off we had the huckleberry lemon cake and cappuccino cheesecake. They even gave us some yummy ice cream with chocolate writing, "Happy Anniversary". Everything was super delicious. For breakfast, we had the mascarpone stuffed French toast, and seasonal waffles. Both excellent. We highly recommend this place! We'll be back

Yelp
We stayed at the dock so I can't attest to the quality of the hotel rooms, but we were able to enjoy the resort's many amenities: the restaurant (very good with a great view!); lovely indoor saltwater pool (hot tub, sauna and steam room too!); geocaching experience (so much fun with the kids - and a good way to experience the resort's lovely forest trail system); super cozy lobby with fireplace, board games, cats and free cocoa, hot cider and tea (this was our favorite hang out); fire pits; marine sign scavenger hunt; coffee shop etc etc. I mean, the amount of family friendly and complimentary fun, outdoorsy or cozy inside, was unparalleled in my experience. And what seriously stood apart was the genuine warm and welcoming feeling from the staff - Nick at the waterfront was ready to welcome our boat upon arrival, even calling the local marina to let them know in advance we were coming to fuel - multiple front desk staff offered help and smiles, and my daughter's lost hat was found - and they called us to tell us us they'd recovered it in the lost and found! Truly a luxurious yet unpretentious place that left us feeling relaxed and grateful. The scenery and wildlife included views of the snow-capped Olympics and birds and seals playing in the Hood Canal. A full moon and morning fog added to the atmosphere. A real PNW gem and kudos and thanks to the staff that make it so!

Yelp
Used to be a good place. Last visit the restaurant experience was lousy. Actually walked out after waiting at our table for 40+ minutes.l with no service. This time had a reservation to stay and it got all jacked up with reservation lost. Could not get a response or a call back from anyone. Like I said used to be a good place. Not sure we'll go back after a second experience like this.

Arleen E.

Yelp
This review is for a stay during the last winter season. My husband and I stayed in one of the pet friendly 2-bedroom cottages for 3 nights. Making our reservation was fairly easy and the agent who assisted was wonderful. We arrived and checked in on a slow afternoon. The agent who checked us in was not very welcoming. I felt hurried and dismissed. No worries, we just wanted to get in our cottage on a rainy day. The cottage was nice, clean and had everything we needed. We were disappointed to learn only one restaurant was open. We had dinner brought to our cottage. Dinner was good. We also picked up some sandwiches and snacks at The Drinkery, and shopped at the gift shop. We went outside the resort looking for places to eat and only one restaurant was open - 2 Margaritas (the one other restaurant in the area had closed permanently). We were hoping there would be indoor activities during the slower season, but there was absolutely nothing to do. I know this resort must be amazingly busy during the summer months with water activities, but rates are not much lower during the off season. What disappointed us the most was the cold reception and unfriendliness of the staff during our entire stay. Only the housekeeping staff were nice. Oh, the highlight of our stay? Meeting Alder and Brook in the lobby!

Josh S.

Yelp
A pleasant stop along the water in Union. The brunch menu for the restaurant is amazingly affordable. The restaurant atmosphere is great. If you want to take a date somewhere fancy earlier in the day, I recommend the restaurant. There's a pier which I tie up to during the summer to grab lunch. Each year there's a fireworks display there. I've never stayed at the resort itself, but I'm an avid user of the day services! I wouldn't recommend working here. I applied twice within the last decade and both times were a fright . . . Most recently, I applied for a room service attendant position. I was provided an interview, and at the end of the process (about 20 minutes) the interviewer stated that she'd like to have me on board. This is also when she stated that her full-time positions were filled. I had exclusively applied for the full-time position. I gathered my items and left. Earlier during this interview, which was performed outside, a disheveled room attendant interjected between us to ask an informational question that could have well waited until later. The whole room service department seems to be a wreck. In retrospect, I believe I'd really dodged a bullet. I was shocked that such a professional establishment presents itself in this way, especially with the clientele that are catered to. I won't even tell you about the front desk job offer years ago . . . Yikes!

Sharna E.

Yelp
This our 2nd time dinning here for a friends birthday, and for the 2nd time it was delicious. We were happy the menu was a little different from the last time we were here ( about 6 months ago) . Would definitely recommend for any occasion.

Stephen W.

Yelp
It's a bit of a drive from Seattle but once you arrive the resort itself is beautiful, situated on water with wonderful views of the mountains and forests. The grounds are beautiful for walking, with gardens and views galore Plus there are places to sit outside with or without a fireplace. The indoor heated pool is great and also has a bubbling hot tub. You can hang out in the lobby and have a drink and just sit, or play a game, or play with the cats. The staff has been super friendly and helpful, starting with check in and including taking care of room maintenance. Our room is spacious, clean, and has great views of the water. The beds are comfortable with lots of soft pillows. Free wi-fi. I don't have any complaints about the room or staff. The restaurant "Terrace" is also great. We had a wonderful dinner there the first night. The raw oysters were fresh and probably the best I ever had. Full, plump, and flavorful. The salmon entry was cooked perfectly, crispy skin and moist meat in the middle. It was an excellent dinner. We also had breakfast there the next morning and it also was excellent. I had the bagel with smoked salmon and the salmon was smoked perfectly. I would say that as far as resorts go, this is about as good as it gets.

Joan M.

Yelp
Service was very nice and welcoming. The food was extremely expensive ($22 for bowl of soup??) and very average. I had clam chowder and a shrimp salad. There were 3 shrimp on a large plate of lettuce. My fellow diners had fish and chips (no real flavor), and an overcooked hamburger. There is also a mandatory 20% surcharge on your meal..regardless of the size of your party. The menu explains that 14% of it goes to the wait staff, and the rest is divided between other dining room service staff. How about you pay your employees a fair wage, reflect it in your prices, and stop forcing these "surcharges" on your diners?

Tita R.

Yelp
Did someone at Luxury? This resort is the ultimate resort and spa. If you want to get away from the hectic craziness of life, you couldn't find a better spot. Situated on a lake and built 100 years ago, this resort offers you the best of luxury living. The grounds are beautifully kept and the views are spectacular. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are large, comfortable and have every amenity you may need in them. The cozy robes and slippers are perfect after a piping hot shower. The bedding is comfortable and you will be guaranteed a perfect night sleep. The restaurant overlooking the lake is another great part of this resort. We had a some delicious drinks and tasty meal overlooking.the lake. If you do eat there , make sure to ask for Alesha's table ....as she is an incredible server. The surroundings of this lodge are spectacular set along the Puget Sound. There are tons of beautiful trails that you can explore during the day and then the summer lots of swimming in the lake While you're up there, make sure to swing on up to Hoodsport to @Fjordoysterbank restaurant fir a great tasting meal. Oyster are picked fresh every morning from the beach in front of the restaurant.

Prakriti K.

Yelp
A beautiful weekend getaway spot. It's about 2 hours out from Seattle and is a pet friendly resort. They have a golf course right across their resort and it adds to the overall stay experience. There is also a spa(which is currently under renovation) but offers almost all services. I got the Swedish massage done and it was one of the best I've experienced so far. Ask for Paula! The pet friendly rooms are on the lowest floor and have direct access to the courtyard which is super convenient. There was a pet bed and two bowls ready for my dog which was super cute gesture. There is plenty of outdoor seating, a restaurant and a cafe onsite. The best part of the property is a boardwalk out to Spencer Lake. Hood canal is super close as well. However, the only thing that was disappointing were the food options. There are very few options for vegans/vegetarians in that huge menu of theirs. Doesn't feel great to check in to a place after a long day and not have enough food options to choose from. Also, I wouldn't want to eat just a salad when I'm on vacation, would I :)? Grateful for the dessert options though! Really hoping they'll add more vegan options soon :)

Rusty F.

Yelp
We were out in the area and decided to stop for lunch, there really isn't much in the area to choose from so this is a great option. We all enjoyed the lunch and service is friendly and attentive. They have a great cocktail list and highly recommend their espresso martini! I ordered the fish and chips...amazing. Such a great place to stop in for a drink or dinner, we'll be back!

Sally T.

Yelp
Beautiful (overpriced) location but their consideration for younger guests is nil. They have a crabby and dangerous cat who bites adults and children alike but the real hazard is to children who don't always understand that they can't reach out to a fluffy cat. I've had cats all my life but would never let an aggressive one around children. In one day, the cat drew blood on two different children. When the managers were asked to take the cat out of the lobby, their answer was no. My answer to that? Someone is going to sue you and would likely win. Frankly, I'd like to see it happen.

Martha K.

Yelp
Beautiful scenery but sadly that is the end of the experience. If you are looking for service and quality, look elsewhere. There are a couple of amazing employees but sadly most are dedicated to enforcing policies and not providing experiences that would bring repeat and meaningful business opportunities. I was brought to the property by pricey tv ads and had a mediocre service experience last year but the mediocre has sadly turned abysmal this year from inattentive staff to hour long boat cruises that clocked in at 35 minutes we will not be back in 2024 and don't recommend it to others. Hopeful current owners will sell because this property fully realized could truly be a world class gem

Lyn E.

Yelp
So love this Resort. I've stayed in the cabins on the beach and loved it. The food is exceptional and the wine selection is great. They offer so much to do in the summer months but I enjoy the winter storms on the canal. The spa is wonderful and please don't leave without having a hot rock massage! And if you play golf they have a beautiful course. Can't wait to go back.

Sally D.

Yelp
Elegantly rustic styled resort in a gorgeous setting. The food was delicious and the staff friendly. We loved the 5 miles of beautifully groomed, hiking trails.

Leanne E.

Yelp
Beautiful and tranquil setting! Highly recommend taking the Lady Alderbrook boat out for a tour if they are running. So many great hikes near.

Marian B.

Yelp
I used to LOVE to go here. Not anymore. Amenities I went to use were out of service. The steam room was broken, and smelled like mold. The hot tub was cold (Two days in a row) and the pool area was not clean (towels and garbage in multiple areas). We went to the bar to enjoy music only to find out they did not do that anymore. The breakfast was not good - I had coffee, a mimosa and veggie scramble $48! If they are going to charge those prices - with automatic 24% gratuity, then I expect above average food and service. I also expect the place to keep up on maintenance or at the very least, let people know before they book. When we informed the front desk about the problems, staff just said, "Sorry". Quality experience has definitely gone downhill.

Gina S.

Yelp
While we have enjoyed a few trips to Alderbrook Resort over the years, this trip was special, as it was the first time I was able to receive a massage in over a year (after a really unfortunate experience at another high end spa in Snoqualmie about a month ago). From the moment I arrived at Alderbrook, I felt safe and seen. The staff were caring, engaged, and fully committed to ensuring guests had the experience they were hoping for upon coming to the resort. Walking into the spa, I felt immediately at ease. Safety protocols were clear and politely presented. While all staff at Alderbrook spa are vaccinated, they were still wearing masks to remove any barriers that might negatively interfere with their client's experience. It was a great welcome. Then, the massage. It was perfection. Relaxing music, dim lights, expert massage strokes, and special extras, like aromatherapy and a glorious foot ritual. It was exactly what I wanted and so desperately needed after this last year of uncertainty and stress. In fact, it was so enjoyable, I did not want to leave :) But, I am so happy to already be planning a return visit soon, as this will definitely be my spa "go to" for the foreseeable future. Thank you, Alderbrook Spa, for the restful, reassuring, and rejuvenating experience.

Yelp
Fantastic spot. Amazon service up front, in the restaurant and on the dock. The epitome of a Northwest Resort. Each year there is something new to enjoy. My only disappointment this year (and the reason it's 4 stars instead of 5) was the Trail to Table that's offered on Thursdays, 2-4. We called ahead to confirm it was happening, came two hours early just for this experience , and it ended up not happening. Upon arrival we were told they were short staffed but that it will be starting at 3, with the "trail" portion omitted. We waited around (not much else you can do in an hour in Union), and 3pm came and went with nothing. Each time after 3pm that we asked, they kept saying "someone is coming." We finally moved on at 3:55.... I get that these things happen, but I would rather they just say it's not happening today than waste two hours of my time waiting around for it. Just a bit of a bummer.

Yelp
Wonderful stay at the Alderbrook resort for a friends wedding. Warning that they do have resort cats if you have allergies, I found out the hard way that I couldn't spend time in the lobby... aside from that, the catering staff for events were AWESOME. So so good. Special thank you to Aspen and Clay for taking good care of us. They helped to make my friends wedding events a seamless experience!

Yelp
Such amazing food! To start they brought out some bomb focaccia bread. Next we ordered some small plates, we got the Brussels sprouts and prawns, which didn't disappoint! I got the cauliflowers steak- and it was so good! As a vegetarian I was happy with my options (not a bunch but the ones they had were amazing!) my party also got the halibut, the lemon risotto (very cheesey) and the meatball marinara. We were all happy and full upon leaving! The cocktails were good as well! My only notes are to make a reservation if you can to get the best seats and not to eat too much bread before your food lol! Overall great experience for my moms bday :) Also, we were seated at the restaurant and not the outdoor patio, they have different menus.

Yelp
We stopped at the Alderbrook restaurant for after hike drinks and apps- was not disappointed! We shared the shrimp Louie and chowder- delicious!

Yelp
The culinary adventure tent was awesome! The dinner was delicious and well put together. The staff was so helpful and friendly! Wonderful experience for my wife on her birthday!

Yelp
Hands down this was an awesome getaway for my husband and I. Neither one of us knew much about the area and the resort itself but boy were we made believers after this visit! We wanted something that was a home away from home getaway vacation and it was perfect! We both left feeling like we had spent our time at an adult summer camp. From all the water activities (kayaking, paddling boarding) and local hikes in the area, you're bound to find something to get you moving. There's also a spa onsite to help you find that deep relaxation we all crave. Reservations are required. The restaurant on site was pretty fair but nothing blew me away (3/5 for the food and service). There were some renovations taking place during our stay but that didn't stop us from enjoying our time. If anything it assured us we have to come back and see all the new bells and whistles. The resort has two local historical figures and they are the most adorable people friendly cats, so be on the lookout.

Yelp
This brunch experience was AMAZING! We had a party of 21 who tend to bring the experience wherever we go.... but our server, Chey, was OUTSTANDING!! ( Hi Chey!). Polite, efficient, had an answer for every question, and kept up with our group... and that's no easy task. No wait time, great food, excellent service!! We appreciate you, Chey! Look forward to seeing you next year!

Yelp
Last minute getaway to a place we have passed several times over the past 25 yrs. It was wonderful. We had room 418 looking over the courtyard and directly above the waterfall. Amazing. We enjoyed the pool, steam room and sauna. Walked along the waterfront and a very good dinner was had at the bar overlooking the water. The only disappointing part is that the "spa" portion has a six month wait. Otherwise it's an amazing tranquil spot of heaven on hood canal. We will be back

Yelp
The grounds are beautiful. We had reservations on a Thursday for our 15th anniversary. My husband preordered a charcuterie plate to be delivered to our room. The check-in process was busy, long and it appeared that they were quite understaffed. (In fact, we overheard someone say that they were short staffed.) That was all fine because we explored the nearby trails. We had a courtyard room with a short walk to the pool, the beach and the restaurant. Our room wasn't the cleanest room. Many of the surfaces were dirty and the blinds were destroyed on the courtyard door, which I assume was from a dog. The smell wasn't great but we could deal with that. The charcuterie plate that my husband ordered wasn't in the room as promised and he was going to dismiss it altogether but all of a sudden our door opens, no knock. Just walked in. The poor girl was startled that I was standing there. Luckily, we still had clothes on. We had a nice time overall.

Yelp
Nice resort close to hiking trails and the Hood Canal. They have their own pool, which you can sign up for, and a restaurant on the premises which serves dine in or take out. There are some tables set up for outdoor take out dining and they have 2 fire pits. Restaurant reservations are best made in advance as they get booked pretty quickly once you are there. The food was decent and they asked you to wear a mask if the servers/waitresses are close. Support staff tip of 20% is added and if you want, you can give an additional tip. The property is beautiful and the setting is fantastic.

Yelp
Jon to the rescue. Somehow I screwed up the reservation I made online for a 2 night stay to celebrate anniversary When we arrived at desk they gently let us know we had not reserved a room and of course that meant our dinner reservation had not processed either. I thought I was going to pass out. As I knew they were fully booked. Jon spun around and like magic produced a just beautiful view room and called us later to let us know he had us booked for dinner at 6. Magic! The room, resort and restaurant are 5 star but Jon is over the top! Thanks.

Yelp
The wife surprise me with a quick get-away and booked us a room and they put us in the 3rd floor in room 319 The room is located next to stairwell and the noise coming from the stairs in unbearable. The room was kind of clean but there is MOLD in the shower tile and grout making this a motel level cleanliness not acceptable for the price. The restaurant accommodations were ok'd, the food was good and tasty but slow service from the kitchen. The grounds were ok but ones again disappointed with cleanliness and the elevator is extremely slow forcing patrons to use the stairs next to our room. I know Alderbrook can do better and hope If we go back, it will probably be in the summer time and hopefully things be better and cleanliness is a priority for Alderbrook.

Yelp
We discovered this place several years ago and stopped in for a cocktail. It's been on our "someday" list for a while now. We finally got to stay here, and I really wish it was for more than one night! The staff was amazing from the moment we arrived and were greeted at the front door. Checking in was great. He made sure to ask if we had Triple A, military, etc., so he could offer us applicable discounts. We stayed in one of the cottages, which was lovely having our patio with view. It had a fireplace and a kitchen. The only potential negative was the one bathroom for 4 adults (that's what happens when you book your trip at 2am and don't read all the details...haha). It worked out just fine, though, for one night. We enjoyed a excellent dinner AND breakfast (both with fabulous cocktails I might add). All of our servers were wonderful! The morning was an icy tundra. Everything was frozen, including the pathway, which made it very difficult to walk and we still saw staff bringing someone room service! We weren't sure if we were going to be stuck there another night and the staff generously gave us a late checkout and assured us there would be a room for us if we did stay. AND did I mention the kitties?! Seriously, you can sit by the fire while sipping a cozy beverage and pet cats all day! We can't wait to come back to enjoy the summer here too! Thank you to the wonderful staff that came to work in dangerous conditions so our stay could be perfect

Yelp
This review is for the patio restaurant and is 2 stars only for the location/view. We took some out of town guests to the area and stopped in for lunch. We waited nearly 45 minutes for our food to arrive, and the order for one person was completely wrong. No cutlery or napkins were provided either. It took another 10 minutes for her corrected item to be received. We have been to the Alderbrook multiple times and this outdoor dining experience was an embarrassment to us on behalf of what the Alderbrook represents. Restaurant management needs to take a better look at the staffing competence level.

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch, it was for a friends birthday and there were at least 9 of us. We sat outside on their informal patio. The service was very good, but this is a very limited kitchen and my food allergy confused them and I was served a very lacking meal. The others who didn't have allergies didn't enjoy their meals either. The blue cheese cole slaw was very good, but everything else was not to our liking. Beautiful scenery, good service but food is really mediocre.

Yelp
My bestie and I stayed at Alderbrook for two nights and three days. Reservations were easy to make online. Rates for the Garden View Guest Room were about $235 a night. Check-in is at 4pm and check-out is at 11am. Complimentary valet parking is offered upon arrival. Discover is an accepted form of payment. There are a few charging stations on-site to charge electric cars. Upon our arrival (Friday) we were offered a complimentary glass of bubbly Rose wine. Nice touch. Our room had a fully stocked mini-fridge, a flat screen TV with access to Netflix (connection required) and full-sized shampoo/conditioner/body wash/lotion. Room service is available if desired. Alderbrook arranged my bestie with a birthday card and two large complimentary chocolate chips cookies in our room. Nice job on making my bestie feel special. Alderbrook offers a variety of activities for their guests: hiking (passes not required), golfing, water sport rentals ($20-$25 per hour), swimming/hot tubbing, spa services, dining, free shuttle to the Union Market and peaceful stunning views. The grounds are immaculate. The staff superb. Overall, we both had a fantastic stay and left refreshed and pampered. I look forward to returning again in the future.

Yelp
We stayed here for the first time this weekend and it was a truly beautiful setting and nice to get away! They take every precaution necessary with covid which is understandable and appreciated- but it does make it difficult to fully experience Alderbrook at its best it seems. - There's a limited menu and there weren't any restaurant reservations left by the time we arrived. -You must sign up for a pool time and for one hour at a time. You can go a couple of times during the day to the pool but only 30 people are allowed at one time in the pool area and you must sign up. - They have these amazing yurts and outdoor tables that seem perfect for dining but they weren't allowing them to be used or reserved- seemed like a lot of wasted space. -There's limited seating outside which was a bit odd - we would have loved to sit out by one of the fires but there was no room left- they were all being used. - the beds were the worst hotel beds we have ever slept in and that's saying a lot. This may be the one thing that keeps us from coming back. - masks must be worn at all times- inside and OUTSIDE. If we go back, it will probably be in the summer time and hopefully when restrictions have lifted a bit. Summers may be a better time to experience all that Alderbrook has to offer and the restaurant- when we can actually go!

Yelp
My wife and I had lunch there yesterday and we really enjoyed the atmosphere the view and the outstanding and friendly service. We both ordered the fish and chips and ate them without commenting as we were enjoy our time together and discussing happy things. At the end of the meal my wife had two of the three pieces of fish still on her plate. I asked if she wanted to take them home and she said, "only if you'd eat them." I said, "oh no, I would not eat them." That finally opened the conversation to use both discussing our worst fish and chips experience we've ever had. Now it's been a long time but, the breading reminded me of McDonald's chicken nuggets. I was concerned that the menu said it was Rock Fish, which I love for fish tacos, but I'd never seen such a flat filet used as a breaded fish. My concern was confirmed. It's not a good fish to deep fry. It's too flat and gets to greasy. The batter also had some undercooked doughy parts, probably due to not wanting to overcook the very thin fish. Because the restsurant is so nice, I will return and try a different meal, one that is harder to mess up, to give it another chance. Just in case I visited when the head chef was on vacation. (Photo from yelp of the same fish and chips we had)

Yelp
Alderbrook will become a family tradition! We had some delays with the room being ready when we arrived, but the staff was exceptionally accommodating and ensured we were compensated for the delay, even offering items from the gift shop for our kids. We had a great time kayaking and hiking the resorts trails. Food was fantastic, the kids loved the chicken and fries which is always a plus. Housekeeping went above and beyond, even folding my daughter's blankets and staging her stuffed animals! Overall a great experience.

Yelp
What an awesome experience. Our second anniversary here and everything about Alderbrook is above and beyond our expectations. I would recommend a stay with them to anyone
