In Nova Scotia, the Waves Are Fast and the Food Is Slow | Bon Appétit

"A weekly market overlooking the harbor that brings together top local growers, cheesemakers and bakers from across Nova Scotia; it’s a hub for local food and includes notable vendors such as a seafood stall serving some of the city’s best fish and chips, haddock burgers and lobster rolls, and offers convenient ferry access across the harbor." - ByMelissa Buote

Alderney Landing is a lovely spot by the waterfront in Dartmouth. It’s a great place to take a walk, relax, and enjoy the beautiful view of downtown Halifax across the harbor. There are often local markets, small events, and live performances on weekends, which make the area feel lively and welcoming. The atmosphere is calm during the day and charming in the evening when the city lights reflect on the water. A nice place to visit for both locals and tourists!

It was the last day of our Canada vacation from the States so we decided to keep it easy. We enjoyed a relaxing ferry ride from Dartmouth to Halifax, where we explored a few shops and had dinner. The ride was cheap and we got a beautiful view of the harbor. Definitely recommend!

I routinely use the ferry to commute to and from Halifax which is a lovely little trip with views of the harbor and views of Halifax and Dartmouth downtowns. The ferries are great, but the area serving the should have more restrooms- and too bad that the Tim Hortons by the waiting hall closed. That corner has a whiff of abandon about it. The farmers’ market on weekends is fun, even if prices bite: the produce quality is appreciated ( oh those fresh eggs from a lively Amish woman!). The bread and sweet selection is ample; the produce doesn’t disappoint either. There’s plenty of handmade trinkets to be eyed. Fish is available, too, both in cooked and raw varieties. Check out the waterfront trail, sample fish and chips or just hang out in the sun taking in the views.

Great spot for concerts and food trucks. Right on the downtown Dartmouth waterfront. Amazing views and easy access to the ferry terminal to Hakifax

What a great way to get Halifax. Parked our car took the ferry across from Dartmouth. $2.25 is a pretty good deal. No messing with parking and traffic.

Enjoyed our ride. Best way to cross over to Halifax from Dartmouth in my opinion if you plan on visiting Halifax waterfront. Free parking on Saturday and only $3 a person. Added bonus there was a farmer's market in the area.

The ferry is a nice, easy ride for just $3. Alderney Landing itself is a market + library + transit centre. The market is small, so there isn’t a lot to do or explore.

It's always a great scenic view. whether it be morning, noon, or night. Go over by the pyramid shaped structure, and sit on the rocks and enjoy!

Yelp
TL;DR/The Short Version: It's the ferry terminal in Dartmouth, but also an event space. They hold a farmers' market here and concerts. The Slightly Longer Version: Nice space. There was no special event happening when we went, so we just experienced it as a ferry terminal. However, we did eat at Evan's Seafood, the restaurant there and walked along the waterfront. There's a section that has beautiful glass sculptures hanging from the ceiling. And the waterfront has a heart bench sponsored by Charms covered in locks put there by lovers, lol. There's also a liquor store there. I'm sure it's much cooler when there's an event happening, but even when there's not, it's still nice. (190)

Yelp
Alderney Landing offers far more than it did a decade ago. It seems to me that this space used to simply be a hub; a place of passage for those commuting via the ferry. But nowadays, Alderney Landing is a special little space all on its own. After disembarking from a nice voyage over the harbour, I was surprised to see a booth booking whale watching tours and other fun aquatic adventures. As I stepped further, I noticed people sitting at a table, enjoying sammies and coffee from a little resto in the building. Not only is there a little alternative product/healing shop, there is an art gallery, an NSLC, a fancy restaurant and a little deli. On the weekends watch out, because this place is turned over to farmers and independent wares producers. Come for the salad greens, and stay for the theatre! The Alderney Landing Cultural Convention Center has a lot to offer. Whether you're looking to pick up a bottle of wine to go with dinner or you're wanting a bottle of infused oil from the deli, this place has a surprising amount to offer. I was quite pleasantly surprised by how this place has expanded over the years. Yay Dartmouth!

Yelp
Since I live in the neighbourhood, I get to go to lots of events at Alderney Landing. And they have lots of events - whether it's theatre or Nocturne or outdoor concerts. This is a great venue that probably doesn't get its due. I think the mixture of outdoor and indoors vendor space plus the indoor and outdoor stages make this ideal for almost any major event. While, as a neighbour, I don't always love the loud concerts and noisy crowds, I hope this space can be used for more festivals. The Multicultural Festival used this space to great advantage.

Yelp
The Alderney Landing Farmers Market has been offering up its wares for 30 years - hard to believe it's been that long! You can find many of the same products here that are showcased at the (busier) market across the harbour. The crowds aren't quite as pressing here either, which makes for a much more relaxed market experience. If you can't make it in between 8 and 1 on a Saturday, drop in to see some of the permanent retail vendors like the Casaroma Wellness Centre or Olivers. You're guaranteed to enjoy lunch on the patio at Ducky's no matter what day you show up.

Yelp
An excellent venue for big concerts! Went to see Arcade Fire here and had a wonderful time! The stage is nice and tall so you can see. The lighting used is really good and the sound system is nice and clear and crisp (which is wonderful when you're dealing with such a big band)! Hopefully more large acts opt for Alderney Landing instead of Citadel Hill. Especially considering that the stage is already there and there isn't a lot of grass to tear up.

Yelp
I'm with Eleanor M - we're spoiled to have a venue like Alderney Landing! I haven't indulged in any of the recent big ticket concert shows (Arcade Fire, Wintersleep, etc.) but I have been to some of them in the past and I'll never forget how nice it was to have a cool ocean breeze and harbourview to really take the edge off being in a crowd of thousands of people. Plus it provided ample room to get down to Rihanna at Summer Rush that time. What? Umbrella was a jam-and-a-half, y'all... Alderney also has some sweet grandfathered-in liquor laws that allow for free-roaming boozing at certain events. As if there wasn't enough to love...

Yelp
This is one of my favorite music venues in Halifax. I like the set-up; the view of the stage is always good and I like it's location- right next to the water.
