Coronavirus Food Bank Use Puts Free School Meal Vouchers Under Pressure | Eater London

"One of the limited set of retailers authorised to accept the £15-per-week free-school-meal vouchers; being included on the narrow list means families can only use vouchers at this chain or a handful of others, which reduces practical access to food for households without a nearby branch and can worsen local food insecurity." - James Hansen

My go to place for grocery. Go in the morning to grab all the best discounts. I got pizza at 50% on a Thursday morning. Plants are at steal deals too. Their own brands like many stores are priced cheaper. And the day after any major event there is always discounted treats and sweets. Love their selection of cheese that has been priced low and also their cake/brownie mixes and juices. Love the eggs too!

Google
Best prices & reasonable quality , very helpful for the less income people, friendly staff, good deals on school supplies , vegetables & other household items

Love Aldi! Absolute god send when I wasn’t doing as well financially and such a blessing for people with analysis paralysis! Great food and affordable. Why the hell are eggs so much though? Government needs to stop all these chickens being killed for fake “bird flu” reasons.

I've been to another Aldi and had a bad experience, but I figured I'll try this one out. Just like with Lidl, I had to see what the hype was about. This store also seems busy with a lot of customers. on a Sunday afternoon. They charge a quarter for using a cart, and once returned so is the quarter. Of course, not everyone carries cash, or coins for that matter, so that can be inconvenient. Another BYOB store...bring your own bag. I just went Costco-style and grabbed a box for everything. They have a 100% Double Guarantee policy, where they replace a product and refund up to double the value. I personally don't see how I would be saving money here, as the prices seem to be the same as nearby grocery stores, if not more. There are some commonly known brands, such as LaCroix, Hershey's candies, Kellogs Pop Tarts and cereals, etc., some of which seem more expensive. The wine was decently priced, various brands, starting at ~$4.99 and above. This store is similar to Lidl, in that they have their own brands, comparable prices and they charge for bags at checkout. I did note some items were reasonably priced such as baked goods, wine selection, and candies. Other items such as milk, cheese and name-brand cereals, seemed regularly priced, if not higher, than other stores. Maybe I am a little brand-spoiled that go on sale at other grocery stores and find it harder to switch to store brands? I ended up buying a couple donuts, bottle of wine, bag of chips and some coffee. The donuts were a bit dry. As with Lidl, I personally would prefer to shop at the chain grocery stores nearby that have more items on sale, especially if I am signed up for their weekly ads. However, I may return here to purchase donuts and wine since the prices were reasonable.

Love Aldis! The prices are fair. I only buy their produce if I plan on using it within a day or two.

This place has just about everything. That average family needs grocery and toiletries wise. It’s quick and convenient and for the most part, has a good grade of food. Some of the produce I feel, stay on the shelves a little too long, not giving you the freshest produce experience, but overall, they do a really great job of stocking. Other than that, great customer service. They employees are very attentive to the lines and seem to be always available and ready to open up another lane when the lines gets too crazy.

Google
When you are OK with a limited selection, but really want great prices! This is the place for you! The Aldi brand of products, the house brand, provides phenomenal value! There are also well-known brands that are priced really well, just not a huge selection. Their gluten-free cauliflower crust pizza is amazing, according to my wife!

Cashiers could be a little bit more friendlier, I walk away, feeling like I somehow offended them by just being a customer and getting rung up.

Yelp
this register guy , in the receipt it says Bryce, he was very rude. There was a woman waiting in line , but he ignored her and continued doing what he was doing. I was also waiting.and then I asked him about the bags and he didn't even answer. I'll never come back here again.

Yelp
Never heard of ALDI until it showed up in Sterling. While I enjoyed it, it was out of my way and I wasn't sure how to process what it offered. But then I walked in here! And I'm a believer! Not a trace (sort of) of doubt in my mind! We are lucky to have the privilege of having this grocery store near our neighborhood in Broadlands. Organic and bulk at great value, they are environmentally conscious in their mission and policies with their stores. Did I mention how cost friendly it is? I can buy organic veggies, pasta, and meats combined for around $17-18 which is enough to feed me for the entire week. For someone who spends too much on groceries, it's a nice welcome change. Some of their rules might take some getting used too such as the quarter for a shopping cart (you get the quarter back when you return the cart) and bring your own bags (I must remember this). But to eat healthy on a frugal budget with a unique and capturing product line, I'm totally down!

Yelp
During this pandemic, I normally visit the Aldi in Sterling which has a decent crowd. Today as I was in this outdoor Mall, it was raining and I wanted to check inside to see if this late of a day they might have Hydrogen Peroxide, wipes, gloves etc. Of course not but I found a neat well laid out store. It wasn't too crowded so staff outside did not hold me up entering. I found available chicken which I didn't find at Whole Foods in the morning and other meats. Lots of vegetables and toilet paper. Lots of it.

Yelp
The Double Guarantee arrives at Ashburn! 100% satisfaction guarantee or you get the product replaced and refunded. Looking forward to trying their exclusive brands and savings. First, on the hit list of brands/products to try: * SimplyNature * Specially Selected * Beer and Wine

Yelp
When ordering online for a grocery delivery from this store, be careful. I had placed a fairly large order, almost $250 worth of groceries, for delivery. It was never delivered and I received a notification stating it would be delivered between 9am-1pm the next day. I was okay with that. But, the store had stopped my order (NO notification saying it was stopped-I learned this by contacting customer service) so I had to cancel it and reorder everything. It can take up to 10 business days to get your refund. So, now I have almost $500 missing out of my account (which is not something that I can afford but I have to have groceries lol) until my refund hits. The store here also usually only has 1 register open, which can hold up the line.. and that is just annoying, to be honest. Lol. All in all, I think this store is okay and has potential to become better. And I hope it does.

Yelp
Price gouging lately. They knew the middle class is now hitting their stores, and the prices have skyrocketed in the last six months. Indeterminate waits to check out. Hit and miss things in stock. Greed. The poor people get hit the most.

Yelp
I don't come to this Aldi often but I will do so moving forward. I had an issue with Instacart and they went above and beyond to solve it. I appreciated the customer service. They'll get my business in the future.

Yelp
Always love this place. Clean with friendly staff members. A must shopping here weekly are as follows: grass fed ground beef; Irish cheese; organic veggies; organic milk(love creating my own Instapot Yogurt); sprouted bread; and always check their Aldi Finds. Thank you, Aldi for having this store nearby. I had been your avid fan for as long I have been living here in USA. I will go extra miles when the nearby store was in Manassas. My hard-earned money stretches it. Keep up the good work!

Yelp
This store serves as a good supplement for a traditional grocery store for certain items. It isn't the kind of place where you would do a whole week's worth of shopping, but they do have some good deals. Where they excel: Produce is competitively priced. They have excellent prices on imported cheeses. Off-brand staples like cereals and condiments are offered at unbeatable deals. Where they lack: Meats don't appear to be competitively priced. Many of the store-brand products are lacking in flavor and taste more like science experiments than food. Toss-up: From time to time they have excellent prices on milk and eggs. Keep an eye on their flyer to know when. Overall, it's the type of place you would pick up a bag or two of items before you visit a traditional grocery store.

Yelp
I arrived here early to attend their grand opening on November 9th and it's a good thing I did because the first 100 customers would receive a gift card when entering. I was early enough to join a line of already eagerly awaiting shoppers. Upon entry, besides my anticipated gift card, I also got a nifty Aldi cloth shopping bag and a key chain. My initial impression was positive because the store was bright, clean and the shelves were all fully stocked. They have a small wine and beer section side by side next to the entrance. There's a nice fresh produce isle and they also carry organic produce which pleasantly surprised me. I sampled the cheese and cereal bars which both were good. I was short on time but took an extra minute to view their meat selection and it was pretty impressive because of the price and variety. Before leaving, I took a turkey kielbasa for only $2, it turned to be quite tasty and will gladly buy it again. I'm looking forward to returning soon, exploring and giving Aldi my business.

Yelp
Went groceries with my wife at ALDI in Broadlands,VA Yesterday August 13,2020 and realized at the end of the day that my wedding ring was missing from my car keychain. (It was on my keychain because I took it off during work out, and forgot to put it back on.) went back there today hoping that I dropped it there and someone may have found it and left it to one staffs of ALDI.. God is good! And to the person who found it THANK YOU! Thank you ALDI of Broadlands, VA. Thank you to the honest employees of ALDI. Much love!

Yelp
Good products, but this store needs serious help with customer service. They had one checker today with multiple shoppers in line with mounded carts. Several people asked the checker if he was the only checker available. He said yes, but he didn't call for any assistance. Another employee walked by and just told a waiting customer to start putting her purchases on the belt, even though that meant she wouldn't be practicing social distancing. I waited 20 minutes in line to check out. I was tempted to leave my merchandise in my cart and leave.

Yelp
Usually shop at Maryland stores they are always on point , with organization and products in stock , stores always look fantastic and the staff are great, I was in the area , came here... I was very disappointed and surprised that this store looked the way it did for them just opening they had nothing , the chiller looked terrible all empty the staff was barley working on it. I didnt feel like waiting for the cheeses I needed because she barley had opened the pallet. The bread area was empty and well it just makes me me sad I had to go to another store. Store looked like night crew didnt even care for the presentation of the store and the front area by the office was just a giant trash can I guess...

Yelp
Aldi is fantastically priced and has pretty much whatever you can find at bigger grocery stores. Their produce is a hit or miss as far as quality but it's still worth going for the deals. They also pay their workers well so you will find that they are always helpful and in good spirits despite seeming understaffed.

Yelp
Great food and prices that cannot be beat. Fresh and organic produce! This used to be (half of) the old Safeway that was there. Major upgrade in my opinion. Aldi is now our primary stop for groceries. If we cannot find something there, Which is rare, we then will go to one of the bigger stores. We have already cut our grocery bill in half. So glad we got an Aldi.

Yelp
Bought a large bag of butter potatoes. One potato had a small rotten spot, and the whole bag smells. The others are firm and look okay. I've scrubbed them and am hoping for the best as it's a long drive to return them. But I read another person's experience with Aldi's potatoes having this problem. Ugh.

Yelp
I am so glad we got one Aldi in Ashburn now. This place is amazing & you can't beat the prices. I got here on the grand opening & upon arriving, I got a coin key chain & a cloth bag which is very useful. The staff is very friendly & helpful. This store has a good vibe. It's neat & clean, big & bright. I am becoming a Aldi regular customer now. I am definitely planning on giving more business to Aldi.

Yelp
I'm an Aldis fan! I price shopmlike crazy and this is a great place to save money. Few grocers beat their produce prices and I never have issues with their produce. Their grass fed ground beef is the best price I've found, and we enjoy saving money with the spices, broth, Kleenex, bacon and omega organic milk. Their 5 $ pizzas are also my boys favorite and they are huge! Their stockers aren't so great as whether I go inon the weekend or early on a weekday it's almost impossible to get any whole omega organic milk and a few other items are hit or miss regarding availability. But I definitely recommend!

Yelp
Be aware, there are price differences between ALDI shops, especially for fresh products like milk and eggs. The prices in ALDI Sterling (route 7) are a lot lower. This one will have to compete the LIDL soon, so I expect them to adjust their prices.

Kevin F.

Yelp
We've been coming here for 3 years and until 4 months ago absolutely loved it. In the last few months we've bought numerous ground turkey that goes bad with a day or is frozen. We got two pounds in separate occasions that went bad 4 days before sell by, so we've moved to Lidl. Emailed customer service and they said pound sand.

John N.

Yelp
Single cashier with no express checkout means long lines and wait time to checkout. Good prices but Lidl just down the street with zero wait times.

Shannon G.

Yelp
As always, great shopping. This one has a bakery, which I haven't experienced before. We got fresh donuts on a Sunday morning, warm and soft and delicious, and a typical Aldi price.
