Acclaimed Birmingham Chef Firms Up Plans for ‘Last’ New Orleans Restaurant | Eater New Orleans

"A German-born discount supermarket chain with a cult following, Aldi opened on Veterans Memorial Boulevard near Power Boulevard in Metairie this week and is the latest of several Aldi locations to open in south Louisiana since last year, when the company opened stores in the Acadiana region and in Slidell and LaPlace." - Clair Lorell

Love the changing & often unique variety of groceries. Used to love the self checkout, where you could get in & out without waiting in a long line. Now often a long line with 1 or 2 registers open, & employees litterly throwing your groceries in your cart to try to speed things up. Debating if it's worth it to go there now.

I bring my own bags every time and set them up at the check out right before I start ringing up my items, but before I knew it a cashier on the other lane started adding bags remotely to my total so I'm looking around like what's going on, then she states, "The bags aren't free." So I told her I know, that's why I bring my own! Then she proceeds to remotely remove the (6) bags she had added to my prior total. It pissed me off because Are you watching anyone else!! Really Aldi!!

Not much choice. More expensive than Walmart but has nice choice of bread. Bring a quarter coin with you to use the shopping cart which is refunded once the cart is returned. Also bring your own shopping bags as they don't offer any. Not sour if you have to buy them.

The system is very slow; it was a mistake to remove the self-checkouts. On top of that, prices have risen sharply, putting an end to our prodigious and profitable purchases at these stores. Meat prices have increased dramatically. You waste a lot of time in line to pay for your items and only have one open register for all the people who are buying.

Was super impressed my first visit! They had a lot of really nice things, the produce looked great and the store was very clean. They have SEVERAL gluten free options for decent prices here. The Aldi branded foods so far have all been very good - especially the coffee creamer!

I love Aldi, so it makes me sad to leave this review. The reason I usually skipped the Aldi on Airline even though it's closer was because this location had self checkouts. Imagine my disappointment going to check out last week. Instead of walking right up to the register and scanning my stuff, I find myself in a line! No more self checkouts and 1 cashier open. I understand the good have to suffer for the bad people who steal, but it's still such a bummer. They took away one of the main things I loved about shopping there.

I was anxious about coming here, so I figured I would do a visit to see how things worked before coming for a shopping trip. Around the edges is produce, meats and dairy. On the interior aisles is the shelf stable items. There are several self check out lanes, and one that is manned. Check out and go to the table by the exit to bag your own items. The process of getting your cart is not like the process at the airport, there's a spot on the handle for the quarter to go to release the cart to you. You plug it back in to get your quarter back. Reasonable prices on inventory. On the seasonal shelves, I did meet some of my gnome friends.

Yelp
Love Aldi, but this one is a little rough. Normally Aldi are known for their very German standards with everything being in order neat and clean. Maybe it's because we visited on a saturday? It was all a little rough, empty shelves, empty boxes, things on the floor- including trash. We might give it another try on a weekday to be fair. We do love aldi, just maybe not this one?

Yelp
Was so excited to come here. Never been to an Aldi and have heard great things. The prices are cheaper but this place is brand new and it looks very run down and picked through. It was already dirty and it's also not that big. I get Walmart neighborhood supermarket vibes here. I might be back to give it a few more tries but it's not that close to my house to want to go here all the time. Trash outside, carpet dirty, no one working here. Seems very lack there of. Also bring your own bags! It costs .12 per brown paper bag to use theirs and the bags rip VERY easily.

Yelp
Went to this Aldi for the first time and it was the most pleasant grocery shopping I've ever had. The shopping carts were big and clean. The aisles were wide and the entire store was clean and well stocked. I already have favorites here and they stock plenty of them. The produce was so fresh. And the prices were great. The staff was happy and friendly. Will be back often.

Yelp
I genuinely want to like them. I actually do like shopping there, but I will tell you that I will never get my fruit from there anymore. It goes bad immediately sometimes it comes bad and I'd be better if I were to buy it from elsewhere. Everything else is fine. I just wouldn't suggest getting your produce or any fresh vegetable there.

Yelp
Sparse -- like an empty warehouse. Few choices. Not worth the small saving on what they do have.

Yelp
This is definitely NOT like the Aldi's in my old neighborhood in Maryland, and I'm thankful for that. Even though it was packed, there were still plenty on the shelves. I was able to get the majority of my grocery shopping done, and the prices were much cheaper. The fruit looked really fresh and there was a variety of bagged salad mix. For the cheese lovers, lot of varieties here. I found some awesome vegan goodies like mozzarella style sticks and Thai basil dumplings. Be sure to check expiration dates because there were lots of bagged salads on the shelves that were passed the expiration date. This is weird because aldi just opened the day before yesterday. Other than this, I'm returning!

Yelp
Okay so if u never been to a Sav-a-lot go to one before you go to Aldi. Now provided you haven't lived under a rock and you have been to Target go to Aldi. It what would happen if Sav A Lot and Target had a baby! I'll sum it up like this looks like a Sav A Lot the prices and the odds and ends items remind me of Target! Good Luck! Also you have to pay for bags so bring ur own if u got them and bring a quarter as well u will need it for the shopping cart!
