The Best Restaurants and Bars on North Williams Avenue in Portland, OR | Eater Portland

"Celebrate the Hot Ones-inspired Scoville renaissance at Portland’s best (okay, yes, only) hot sauce shop that doubles as a carefully curated bar and bottle shop. Hot sauces here number in the hundreds of varieties — exact offerings depending on the supply from many of its boutique producers — and range from mild-and-sweet to smoky-and-piquant to for-masochists-only. AleFire takes its beer just as seriously, with 20 mostly-local brews on tap, alongside dozens of bottled and canned beers. The staff can offer sage hot sauce and beer pairing advice to those grabbing food along North Williams after their drop-in." - Nathan Williams

I. Love. This. Place. I have been here a number of times and am moving soon, and this is one place that I will really, really miss (though I know that I will be back). The beer selection is exceptional - there is something for everyone - if you don’t find it on draft, you will in a can. We’re not talking Budweiser or Coors here, but some really unique brews, and some familiar staples too. Admittedly, I am not big on hot sauce, but there are like a million lil hot sauce bottles next the beer. AleFire for the win! Charlie, Jack, and Mark are real ones!! And they play dope movies! Come for the vibes, stay for the people. And the dogs that frequently join the fun are mad cute too. I really love this place :)

Google
A very sweet beer and hot sauce stop!! They have a lot of beers on tap as well as beers in cans and bottles to take home. They have an AMAZING selection of hot sauces. You can sit in and get some beer on draft or take things home to enjoy. Indoor and outdoor seating. Dog friendly. Sports and movies on TV.

Great outdoor seating and surprisingly large selection of hot sauce

If you love tasty hot sauce, crisp bevvies, great music, awesome service, or any combination of those, make a stop at AleFire. It's been one of my favorite Portland bars since it opened, and I always make a point to visit when I'm in town now that I've moved away. You won't be disappointed! 🍻

Google
It is a unique and interesting location. At least if you're from anywhere outside of the West Coast. You can get hot sauce and beer and cider, hard cider. The staff is extremely friendly and the drinks are delicious. Coming from the East Coast, I do wish that there was a little less IPA, but that's not to say it's not good as I'm still getting use to West Coast IPA. It's delicious as hell and I love it.

HAB Sauce

Google
You can get the absolute best hot sauce ever made here! Yes it’s called HAB Sauce! And they are so friendly. The beer selection is stellar.

Google
This place rocks! Best beer selection and an impressive stack of hot sauces. Beers and sauces no better combo than that! There's also unique beers on tap at any given time. We stumbled on this place waiting for dinner and the service was great. Everyone knew each other, laughing having a great time!

Nice successor to Tin Bucket with the added fun of hot sauce! Free samples of 8 or 10 are usually available and 100s available for purchase. 20 rotating taps and plenty of cans and bottles for individual sale here or to take away. Friendly and helpful staff.

Yelp
Hot spot on Williams, pun intended. Mouthwatering ~ tease the tastebuds when browsing at hundreds of bottled hot sauce and/or sip on a delish rotation of beer on tap. Just beer ~ love it. Bring your own food. Pup friendly. Sit at the cozy bar top and relax with friendly neighborly service. Small TV to watch the games if you like. Outdoor seating available too.

Yelp
Super cute spot for some beers and some hot sauce! They have a huge selection of hot sauces from all over, including some rare ones. Mark, the bartender, gave my friends and me some chips and a couple of sauces to sample. They were all extremely hot to me, ranging from 6-8/10 in my opinion. I can't handle too much spice anymore, but I did get a bottle as a souvenir for a friend! Fun vibes here, and they also have outdoor seating. Since they don't serve food, I think you can bring your own and hang out here. And you can also bring your dog!

Yelp
Hot sauce and beer. Enough said. But yelp disagrees so here us more filler text. They give out hot sauce flights for free usage while in there too.

Yelp
Our search for a place to park and watch the game led up here. Super clean, airy and a welcoming vibe. Had no trouble getting service and the gentleman pouring was very patient helping me make my decision; even provided a few samples. Ultimately I selected the Strawberry Fields, slightly sweet but crisp. Plus, they offer hot sauce, three refrigerators full.Overall great value and quantity.

Yelp
I LOVED this place! My buddy and I stopped in here on a whim and grabbed a couple beers. They have a great selection both on tap and in their coolers. it was a nice day and so we took advantage and sat outside. Ok, here's the best thing. HOT SAUCE. I love this twist. Half their coolers are filled with different hot sauces. Some famous ones (i.e. Da Bomb on Hot Ones) and may lesser known ones, some even local! The gentleman working there was so nice, friendly, and helpful too! If you haven't been here, give this place a try! It's got a wonderful location on Williams and is super fun, even just to browse their hot sauce collection!

Yelp
Great local joint with a good selection of rotating brews on tap, and of course fridges full of more beer and lots of hotsauce. Yes, beer ... and hotsauce. Haha. This is their thing and I am all about it! Simple service and reasonable prices in a cute local setting with both indoor and outdoor seating. I believe you absolutely can bring your own food (and Life of Pie is right down the block)!

Yelp
Ok. Beer and hot sauce. Yay! Glad to see some of our favourite there like cheeba gold and Scorpion sauce. Hope they can get another favorite line, Fraktured brand.

Yelp
Hot sauce heaven!!! Great new addition to Williams ave. 300+ hot sauces to purchase - great tap list - sports. Outside food welcomed; Go grab Pepe Chile taqueria tacos (Fremont + Vancouver), taste test their weekly line up, add your favorite to your tacos. Boom.

Yelp
Just came here to pick up some hot sauce and the owner (i think?) was incredibly nice and very knowledgeable. He asked us some questions and recommended some bottles. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience! I will recommend this place to my friends.

Yelp
I visited this neighborhood pub/hot sauce hub with my wife and brother and hand a great time. Any hot sauce enthusiast should check it out and if you're looking for a place to relax and have a beer while out and about it doesn't get much better than this. Great neighborhood vibes and super chill staff.

Yelp
Drew and company curate an incredible beer and hot sauce list. Been coming here all the time when we lived 20 minutes away. Now we can walk to it and go almost daily. You need to give this place a go. It's really outstanding.

Yelp
I'm a certified hot sauce nerd and this place is THE BEST. It's a perfect place to spend a day off, drinking something off of the tap list and sampling sauces on chips. Customer service is great, too. I will always bring my friends here.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! Do you like good beer? Go here. Do you like hot sauce? You REALLY need to go here. It's epic. Plus the owners are great!

Yelp
I love hot sauces and this place get it! Also great beer selection. The server was quite friendly and brought my friend and I at least 10 new sauces to try. Hope this is a viable business model!

Yelp
Oh, okay, I guess I should post a review of this place. I've caught myself calling it Tin Bucket a couple times. Oops! I really liked Tin Bucket, but everybody knew it was circling the drain. I'm glad somebody stepped in to take the space. We all need hot sauce, and we all need beer, but I don't understand the logic of selling them together. With hot sauce taking cooler space, the beer selection suffers (although they probably have more SKUs than the flailing Tin Bucket, lol). The beer selection, both in the cooler and the taplist, are uninspired. It's great that they allow outside food, but there are days when I look at the selection in the cooler and wonder if I'd be allowed to bring in my own beer too. I keep going back largely because it's in the neighborhood, but also because I like everybody behind the bar, and I like the atmosphere (which has been slightly upgraded). Despite the flaws, this is a decent place to hang out, and I anticipate spending an imprudent amount of time and money here for years to come.

Yelp
Awesome little bar. Came in with my brother for a quick beer ended up having a few. A lot of good drafts on tap. Plus they sell beer to go and hot sauces. Definitely a go to spot when I'm in the area.

Yelp
What a lovely place to spend an afternoon. I had a little work to do so I got that done, then struck up a conversation with the interesting people around me. Then I was offered samples of spicy pickles, and free chips and hot sauce. Friends showed up and we were all promptly served by a busy bartender. Just a good night at a great Portland spot! This place has really warmed up from the previous spot, Tim Bucket, which was a decent spot to grab a beer in its own right. Plenty of bottles and hot sauce in the coolers to take home.

Yelp
This is a great spot for a beer. Good prices and a good selection. They have TVs for sports which is nice. The employees are really friendly. The number of hot sauces available to buy and try are amazing! I definitely recommend this place!

K S.

Yelp
I love love the idea but the practice is underwhelming. This place has a small and less interesting taplist and the hot sauce is just a line of bottles in the back with a few chips to try. The sauces aren't particularly interesting (two of which are secret aardvark). Service was excellent though
