The 11 Best Taco Shops in Broward County and Fort Lauderdale | Eater Miami

"Along a stretch of Andrews Avenue between Commercial Boulevard south of Oakland Park Boulevard, diners will find a stretch of homegrown Mexican restaurants. Amid them, this one – which translates to happiness in Spanish – brings just that in the form of its melt-in-your-mouth al pastor and asada perfection, served on the softest corn tortillas."

Honestly, the vegetarian tacos and tortas at this place are absolutely incredible. As a vegetarian, I'm constantly thinking about where I can eat, but this restaurant completely blew my expectations out of the water! The flavor of every single ingredient is amazing; you can truly savor it in every bite. On top of the fantastic food, the staff is exceptionally polite, kind, and warm. They always greet you with a genuine smile. I recommend this restaurant to everyone—vegetarian or not! Thank you so much for an amazing experience.

Google
They did not disappoint. I ordered 3 carne asada tacos & a drink. I was full after 2 tacos. Taco size is bigger than most. No sauce needed. Taco shells were soft with a crisp. Meat very well seasoned. Fresh toppings. Friendly & welcoming staff. Place is very clean. Will definitely return.

Google
Alegría Tacos is a gem — plain and simple. From the second you pull up, you’re met with warmth, not just from the grill, but from the family running the show. These are the kind of people who treat you like you’re already a regular — smiling, generous, and clearly proud of what they’ve built. Now let’s talk flavor. The al pastor? Unreal. Perfect balance of sweet and heat, with crispy edges that somehow melt in your mouth. The asada is bold and juicy, packed with smoky richness like it just came off a backyard grill in Mexico City. And the chicken — underrated until you try it. Tender, seasoned to perfection, and not just a throwaway option like at most places. It’s rare to find a spot where you feel just as good after the meal as you did during. Alegría isn’t just serving tacos — they’re serving up pride, hospitality, and real-deal flavor that hits you right in the soul. We can’t wait to go back.

Google
Best tacos I've had in years from a restaurant. Rivals those in Matzalan, Mexico. Gusttova is great and a Navy Vet like me. Highly recommend! Ede is a great chef.

Google
We live really close to this little gem, always wanted to try it and FINALLY made it there for lunch today. What a huge loss that we waited so long! Their food is so good. I ordered the 2 carna asada taco lunch special which came with beans and rice. My husband ordered the carnita taco lunch special. The meat was so flavorful and juicy. The rice was fluffy, the beans were topped with melted cheese. We ordered a side of chips and salsa. The chips were warm, crunchy and seemed freshly made. Absolutely amazing lunch.... We will not wait too long to return here to eat.

Google
Absolutely delicious. I came for the first time yesterday, and I'm already back today for lunch! I love the chicken tacos, and the lunch special is a great price for the amount of food. I also love that it's a small place - makes for a cozy lunch. Friendly and welcoming staff. All around new favorite taco spot! I'm already planning to come back very soon to try the chicken taco salad.

Google
Best little team to serve you the best tacos filled with love and great quality service!!

Google
This spot was closed for about a month but finally had a chance to visit it. For the food, we got al pastor tacos and an al pastor burrito with a side of beans and rices. The tacos and burrito were incredible. This is place is very very small, so chances of eating inside are not too high and it's a bit hot inside but the focus for me for this place was the food which was incredible. If atmosphere is a big part for someone this place would drop a star. The service was great, the man upfront was very attentive to everyone eating inside while taking orders.

Yelp
Five Star Tacos! Five Star Burritos! Small corner shop turning out some really great authentic Mexican fare! My Veggie Burrito was very generous and satisfying!

Yelp
We had an excellent lunch here. Sometimes you're not sure you'll agree with the Yelp reviews, but this set was right on. Yes, it's a tiny hole in the wall place. Located on the west side of Andrews Avenue at the south end of the strip and at the corner of the street. We parked a couple doors north and walked over. Inside, there are only two small tables and one booth. I ordered a couple tacos and my husband had a burrito. They were doing a lot of take out when we were there. Many of the people stopping by were long time, regular customers. One guy said he'd been coming here for twelve years! I asked and they said the woman cooking has been doing so in the same location for 18 years. We dined in (we got the booth!). I had one chicken taco and one asada (steak). Both meats were well cooked, nicely seasoned, and hot off the grill. Even the taco "shells" were warmed. With mild white onions and cilantro, they were some of the better tacos I've ever had. I didn't need to add a thing. My husband's veggie burrito was packed with lettuce, tomato, avocado, onions, jalapeños, and sour cream. He said it was good. But he wished they'd added the cheese he'd wanted, too. They have Mexican sodas, and even Inca cola. We just shared a canned soda (American) and they nicely gave us a couple cups of ice. They now have Mexican ice cream bars in several flavors for dessert. And they're contemplating adding a couple other options as well. And yes, I'd come back.

Yelp
Omg this has to be the best fish tacos I ever had. I pass by this taco spot everyday and Ive always been curious about it. Glad I took a chance. When entering the restaurant you're greeted immediately. They are super friendly and helpful. The ambiance is nice. Small but super intimate. You could seat inside or outside. This a family owned restaurant. I got the fish tacos and it was amazing. Fresh and delicious. The portion size was perfect. The also have vegan options. I've been here twice since. This place is a true gem.

Yelp
Hidden gem with huge flavor. This little hole-in-the-wall spot serves truly authentic tacos made with fresh ingredients and warm, friendly service. A must-try if you're craving the real thing.

Yelp
This place is definitely a hidden gem. One thing I was not prepared for was the lack of seating and how incredibly small it was. But the amazing customer service and flavorful food made up for it. The Tacos exceeded my expectations. While waiting for our food to be prepared we had the privilege to speak to the husband of the owner, he honestly made us feel like family. I can't say enough good things about the food here and how fresh it is. The burritos were huge and full of fresh ingredients and flavors, the tacos were amazing and the rice and beans perfectly complemented the food.
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
The size of the restaurant may be "small" as some of the other reviews have mentioned but it's MIGHTY. The expression "good things come in small packages" is an understatement with this place. Cozy and warm from the authentic decor, pleasant owners and love poured into the food you can taste with every bite. Their service is impeccable! I needed a last minute order of 200 tacos (with sides) for my office and they over delivered! From the quality of food, the careful packaging, and the being able to complete the order within 2 hours is unheard of but they were able to do it - MIGHTY INDEED. I highly recommend this establishment for all my taco lovers! You won't be disappointed

Alanna M.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic street tacos and incredibly, incredibly sweet staff. We'll be back--highly recommend the birria, Al pastor, or chicken tsco (or all 3).
google avatar

Mariangel M.

Yelp
The best authentic Mexican tacos ever. Very flavory, crunchy, Cheesy (Birria taco). It's just perfection. Definitely coming back again

Emily R.

Yelp
This place is FIRE. It's authentic, delicious and you can tell the people who make the food make it with love. I didn't even realize I was dancing in my seat eating it til I caught my reflection in the window. I used to come here years ago before I moved away and I was driving by and came across it again and had to go in. It's just as good- if not better- than I remember. The people who work here are so sweet. The only thing that surprises me is that they didn't have a line out the door. Maybe because I came at a weird time, either way. Perfect hole in the wall with the best food, I was literally sad when I finished my last bite. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
10/10 -- New Favorite Alert! Just found my new taco obsession! The rice? Fluffy little clouds of deliciousness. The tacos? Flavor explosions in every bite. And the service? So good they deserve their own standing ovation . Already planning my next visit--who's coming with me? oh and yes I forgot to take a pic

Lance H.

Yelp
5/5- The food is spectacular! The carnitas and al pastor are unbeatable! I've eaten here a number of times, as I did just yesterday, and I'm already Jones to go back... But sadly, they are closed on Sundays and Mondays so I'll have to wait until Tuesday! 5/5- the service from this family-run space is kind, prompt, warm and filled with love 5/5- well it only has two tables inside and I think two or three tables outside... Doesn't matter, because you're going to be focused in on the food and service! :-)

Yelp
Came here on my lunch break , and was not disappointed made an order knowing the spot and they made it in under 10 minutes. These tacos were some of the best I've had in a while. They don't taste like your typical tacos and I believe they use a different type of corn tortilla that I don't see often. They seared the tortillas a bit which gave it a bit of crisp when you bite into the taco the steak was seasoned and delish the toppings were fresh not only that, the rice and beans were good too. can't wait to come again and try the torta and their burrito, I see why they're so highly rated
google avatar

Eli L.

Yelp
Good food , the tacos are flavorful ! A bit pricey for the place though The place lacks of cleaning and the trash was super overfilled

Yelp
Some of the most authentic Mexican street tacos I've experienced in Florida! We found them on Yelp while visiting the Fort Lauderdale area, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The owner herself was there taking orders around lunch time on a Thursday and they were definitely busy (looks like they do a big to-go businesses). I recommend calling ahead and putting your order in for pickup if you're on a time crunch. We were on vacation, so we didn't mind the wait. We ordered one of everything (asada/steak, pollo, chorizo, al pastor, carnitas)... they were honestly all amazing. I think the chorizo and the asada were my two faves tho! Paired perfectly with Jarritos and a Mexican Coke. I love when a spot like this has a full fridge of Jarritos. It's a small joint with only about 2 tables inside and a couple outside as well. They also have some good lunch combo options, but since this was our first visit, we needed to try allll the tacos. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in South Florida!
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
Best tacos I've had in my entire life! Not too overcomplicated, just good meat and good ingredients!!
google avatar

Marivi R.

Yelp
Ordered a steak burrito, chicken quesadilla and a variety of 4 tacos - everything was incredible. Can't go wrong!

Yelp
We went to Alegría Tacos after my wife, who's from Texas and always chasing real Mexican food, started craving it. Wow, what a find. It's a small corner spot, nothing fancy, but don't let that fool you. The food is as authentic as it gets here in South Florida. There are only a couple of tables inside and a few outside, but while we were there, people kept coming in to pick up orders. It was clear this is a local favorite because everyone seemed to know each other and were chatting like family. I couldn't believe we hadn't heard of this place sooner, especially since it's been open for years. You order at the register and then they bring your food out. Gus, the cook's son, greeted us right away and gave us some great recommendations. He was super friendly and even told us about the history of the place and where my wife could find pozole, which she's always on the lookout for.We ordered the carne asada tacos with rice and beans and a torta, which was my first time ever having one, and it was amazing. I'm Cuban, so I've never had anything like it. The bread and flavors were so fresh. After we finished, his mom, who's the cook, came out to say hi, which made it even more special. You can tell they really care about what they do and their customers. This place has so much heart and we can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Maria S.

Yelp
This is the closest to homemade as I could get. Their birria tacos are ahhhmazing! We also tried the chicken tacos and birriaqueso tacos, which are just as excellent. This is a must try! The place is a bit small so suggest taking to go.
google avatar

Brenda H.

Yelp
Fantastic authentic street tacos , i got the al pastor and they were even better than ones i had in Puerto Vallarta mexico , very full of meat $4.95 per taco well worth it . Service also A+ , super nice people
google avatar

Karen N.

Yelp
Sometimes when things come in small packages, they are the biggest gift. My vegan daughter picked this spot to help me with my birria taco addiction. When I say this is a hole in the wall, I'm never t kidding. There is one booth and maybe 2 tables and one chair. There are 2 tables outside that sit 2 people. There is no alcohol, but that did not turn me away. I was here for the taco. The taco hit the spot. It seems like everyone knows your name. They were steadily busy and these are the regulars.
google avatar

Melissa T.

Yelp
This is a mom and pop restaurant and it's a gem!! It's best to go in person and place an order because they're very busy. The food Amazon! I had rice, beans, Al pastor taco and carnitas taco. I also eat the red and the green sauce. Green sauce is very spicy but tastes so good. Don't let the location discourage you. This is a true authentic Mexican restaurant t. They don't use canned beans, they make them from scratch!

Daniela M.

Yelp
Hate they no longer serve lengua :( and there's not much space if you plan to eat in. I ordered three tacos: chorizo, al pastor, carnitas. Carnitas are AMAZING!
google avatar

Brittany T.

Yelp
The best hole-in-the-wall spot for authentic tacos! If you're looking for a no frills, straight to the point taco joint, then you're in luck. Alegria Tacos has a plethora of options and still somehow remains true to their roots. We came in for the first time and noticed how small it was inside. But it's the true definition of: small, but mighty. We snagged one of the three tables inside and enjoyed our tacos while noticing a steady flow of customers coming in and our; either take out, dining in or picking up. This place is doing really good business and I know why! The food is delicious! I had 4 tacos: steak, Al pastor, chicken and veggie. I was a little over zealous ordering 4 because i was full after 2, but they were so good I couldn't stop eating them! My favorite was the steak. So much flavor! My boyfriend had the al pastor and carnitas tacos and the steak torta. He enjoyed the tacos more than the torta but I just think he was full too and didn't have space for the torta. It was huge! We took his other half home. Service is friendly and looks like the kitchen is family run listening to them interact and cook with each other. It's a very special place and I'm looking forward to coming back.

Bryce K.

Yelp
Amazing food and super nice staff. I will be coming back many many more times. I got the chorizo tacos. My friends got tacos too. I heard the burritos are delicious as well.

momo b.

Yelp
They have the best tacos in my opinion. The food is delicious no matter what you get. The service is always friendly and you can tell it's genuine. The place is small but I love places like that, the food is always good. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone
google avatar

Abiud M.

Yelp
One of the best tacos I have ever had. Better than the one's in Mexico. This is a hole in the wall with only two seats but that's ok. When I am in the area I always stop here.
google avatar

Danielle V.

Yelp
LETS TACO-BOUT IT. Yelped a taco spot while on a road trip that wasn't too far off of 95 and ended up here.... Not disappointed!!!! Got some al pastor tacos, a carnitas taco and a steak taco. So so so good! The tortillas are slightly crispy around the edges which make them so tasty. I also got a side of chips and salsa- the chips were fried hard, which I love! The salsas were both delicious (note- the green one is veryyy spicy!) They were only doing outdoor dining because of covid, but had a steady stream of takeout orders while we were there. Would definitely recommend !!
google avatar

Destiny M.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Def should try. We tried steak , al pastro, carnita & chrorizo tacos. They were alll good. We also had a steak quesadilla which was also very good ! Small cozy restaurant. Very nice & friendly. They made sure we enjoyed the food. Loved it
google avatar

Idan E.

Yelp
Seriously the best Mexican food! The food is always so wonderful and the owner is like the Abuela I always wanted. They have limited hours so check before you go and it is worth the trip!

Brian B.

Yelp
I drove 25 minutes to Allegra as I heard great things about their food I arrived almost 20 minutes before they were supposed to close and the doors were locked and the lights were off. They lost a customer that was dying to try their food Just dumb
google avatar

Stephen G.

Yelp
Not the ritz Carlton but the food sure is award worthy. I pigged out totally. I had carnitas torta, steak burrito and chicken quesadilla. All of it was fantastic. The ingredients were all fresh and made by one person. You can taste the love in her cooking. My wife and mother are Mexican and they absolutely love the food no matter how much they try to critique the place. Two bites and they were convinced. I absolutely love the fact that if a homeless person walks up for food that they will meet them outside and take their order and treat them like a human being. The food, the people, the humility and grace they showed and again the food make this my new go to spot for Mexican food in the area. Go there enjoy yourself, chat with the gracious young man taking orders and thank me later.
google avatar

Florence P.

Yelp
Quintessential mom & pop dive spot but oh so good. Although it's on a corner of a busy street, if you blink you'll miss it. It's a really cozy place with two small tables inside and two outside. Parking is extremely limited on the side of the building but worth the stop. Hearty authentic Mexican eats that'll have you moaning, ummmmm. From the yummy corn tortillas to the perfectly seasoned fillings and the fresh toppings all incredibly delicious. I ordered the three tacos lunch special. For my fillings I ordered one of each protein (chicken, pork & steak), all were on point. Must try spot!

H G.

Yelp
First time customer and the rice had some kind of dirt, grit, or sand. Almost the exact sensation of when you bite into clam chowder and chew little bits of sand. I had to spit it out. This photo shows what I bit into. Absolutely disgusting. The sand or dirt was scattered all throughout the rice. I don't think I am not eating here ever again. The food here didn't even taste authentic. I've noticed a lot of Yelpers like to hype reviews out here in Florida. I was disappointed after I had a poor experience when people swore in their reviews that this place as "the best tacos in town". If I didn't account the multiple specks of dirt that was scattered throughout my rice, I would give the food a solid 3 stars for taste alone. I don't like to give restaurants harsh reviews, but that dirt in the rice was almost unforgivable. I hope you guys double check to wash your rice.

Joshua G.

Yelp
Whenever i come to this spot it is always hot and very good service. I came all the way from Virginia to try this place and it was worth the drive.
google avatar

Alicia C.

Yelp
BEST TACOS in town. I am a sucker for the chorizo tacos and their rice and beans. Recently I decided to have a lunch date with my daughter and it truly did not disappoint.
google avatar

Joe D.

Yelp
Possibly the best Mexican food in Florida. Low on ambience as a little hole in the wall, but man this is good food. The service is always with a warm smile. This little taco stand is tiny, and looks a little derelict from the outside. A couple of the letters on the Alegria sign look a little crooked and less than happy. Ignore the tiny interior and slightly tattered exterior...the food at this place rocks. Fish tacos are always my acid test for Mexican food and theirs are fantastic. Simply prepared but incredibly fresh, these tasted like they might have been alive and swimming ten minutes before. The closest I have ever seen to this were fish tacos actually made on the beach in Cozumel, with fish just caught in the Gulf. Burritos are off the charts too. It can be a little hard to find, we drove past twice. It's half a storefront on a busy stretch of Andrews Avenue. Park in the small shopping plaza next door (there are TWO parking spaces in front of Alegria, hehe). The staffers here are uniformly sweet and friendly. It helps to speak Spanish, especially if you're customizing from something on the menu. Oh, and to add a little cool authenticity, pretty well everything comes in those compartmentalized styrofoam boxes. In short, I love this place. Recommended, big time.
google avatar

Mike R.

Yelp
Hands down one of our go to places for authentic food. It may be a small place but they pack a lot of flavor into their food. They always greet me with a smile and the service is quick. When we don't feel like cooking we will hit this place up for take out.
google avatar

Aja N.

Yelp
I went to this place due to the positive Yelp reviews. I was expecting to get a lunch special, but instead of $8.50, it was $16.95!!! The Mexican cokes are $4.99!!! I could've had two lunches at my go-to place for that price. The carnitas had no flavor, the rice and beans were even tasteless. There are 2 tables in the place, so to-go might be a better option. However, everything is served in styrofoam and is edible, but not good. The owner was friendly and nice, but that was very pricey for what it was. When she asked how I liked it, I told her that it wasn't very good. She said that she will talk to her cook and next time it'll be better. There won't be a next time for me. I ended up giving my uneaten food to a beggar outside. First time shame on you, second time shame on me! Awful!!
google avatar

Isabel V.

Yelp
I happened to stumble upon this place while being at my friends house and boy am I glad that I did. The spot is in a small little shopping center or plaza, and it's in a small location. I only gave it four stars because there's not much seating area so I had to eat my tacos in my car. But other than that, the tacos that I ordered were amazing and so delicious. They were ordered fresh and out by no more than six minutes wait if any. I ordered the Al Pastore taco and also the carne asada tacos and both were phenomenal. The tortilla was a Mexican corn tortilla and it was golden and crisp and they packed a lot of flavor. The hot sauce was definitely spicy if that's your thing. I'll definitely come back to enjoy more tacos while in the area.
google avatar

Elena P.

Yelp
Omg what a find. Someone (milamunchies) posted this on Instagram and it looked so perfect for lunch that I immediately got up and went. I got three tacos for ten bucks. It comes with two heated soft corn tortillas that are perfectly crisped to be a little crunchy and have the right amount of bite. I'm usually a hard shell taco girl so was very impressed with the texture of these. It came with onions, tomato and cilantro and choice of mild or hot salsa. They did have lunch specials but I didn't feel like rice and beans so just went with the solo tacos! It is literally takeout only - I walked in to order and had my food no more than 5 min later. Very fast. Definitely no frills but a solid taco. Will be back to maybe try more things on the menu but prob just end up getting more tacos!

Denise H.

Yelp
It's a small place but the tacos are really good and have plenty of protein and fixings. The service is excellent, very friendly ladies.

Marquise T.

Yelp
the food was delicious and had flavor with every bite and they even consider the food that falls out the taco so they give you a fork to eat that

Yelp
My niece was in town from Orlando and we went to Fort Lauderdale with the intent of going to beach but than the craving for street tacos came on and of course I went to my yelp search bar. Lol Two places with great reviews came in, which was this place and Quates Mexican Restaurant which are literally across from each other on opposing corners. We knew that we were going to be in that area again the following day and decided to try both places and back to back fresh reviews. We went to Alegria tacos first on Friday. First off the parking lot is almost non existent and DO NOT park in the shopping plaza next to the restaurant. You will be towed apparently. The parking for this restaurant is on the side by the street and it is limited. It looks like this building used to be an apartment complex at one time which explains the limited parking spaces. The restaurant is very very small inside. One booth and three two seater tables with a soda vending machine inside the dining area. The server was very nice and accommodating and explained everything and made sure the orders were correct. I could tell she was from out west because I am originally from Utah and we do have accents. Apparently the family is retired military from California and Mexican! Which made me very happy because Mexican food from the West is very different than from here. We ordered steak and chicken tacos and a tamale and a bean burrito along with bottled Mexican Coca Colas! The corn tortillas were grilled perfectly and the chicken and steak were diced and shredded nice so that when you take a bite you don't have a gigantic piece of meat in your mouth. The lime was fresh as well as the pico. The retried bean were very good as well and fresh. The rice was good but ok. Needed more taste. The salsa's were a green and red ( home made) they were tasty but I have had better. The Coca Cola bottle was large and cold! Loved it. The tamale was just ok for me. Not a lot of meat inside and really no flavor but tamales always come out different. The tacos are what makes this place without a doubt. My son loved his burrito, pretty large portion. I will definitely come again.
google avatar

Sarvin K.

Yelp
Blown away by the tacos here! Safe to say the best tacos in town. Not a lot of seating and it's in a plaza so this is the perfect place to grab and go. The service is fast and friendly. I have now recommended this place to several friends and they all have amazing things to say about Algeria tacos as well. My only regret is not discovering this hole in the wall sooner!
google avatar

Ed W.

Yelp
The restaurant was closed. I came here to have lunch but upon arriving I found that they were on vacation apparently. Maybe I will try again some other time.

Blair B.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!!! Awesome fresh, homemade Mexican food!! Small but the best in town.
google avatar

Victor M.

Yelp
Amazing tacos and food! Cooked on the spot, so you know it's fresh. Don't be swayed about the location, you won't regret the taste of these tacos!!
