Aleksey's Market

A wonderful market focused on Eastern European food items. Staff was very friendly, and very service oriented. The place is not huge, but they try to put a lot in there. The Deli/meat/fish, and cheese case is wonderful. Great teas, and some beverages and confections. Jarred goods, frozen pierogis too.

Such a great find. Max took the time to help my daughter pick out some fun candies, which made the visit even better. We also grabbed fresh bread, pickles, and some fantastic butter. If you have Eastern European roots like we do, this place will feel like home—but honestly, anyone who enjoys discovering new candy and food should stop in. 10/10.

Didn’t realize we had a european market here in Nashville since moving here. I was surprised at the robust selection considering Nashville not being a hotspot, and was able to get fresh cakes, kobasa, sour cream, pierogies, candies, honey, teas, pastries, drinks, and other items. Definitely a great spot to stock up on your favorites or try something new.

I drive from Birmingham Alabama to visit this store. Every time is a great visit. Very nice organize store. Costumer service is great as well. Food is AMEZING. Definitely have planty choices for everyone. I recommend this store very highly. I can't wait to go back.

Stopped by here, amazing experience. The food was so so good (got beet salad and eggplant salad). So many good Ukrainian and Russian foods. They also have borscht!! Everything is made fresh.

I have always enjoyed shopping at Alexey’s Market, and my previous visits were excellent. However, during my last visit, I was disappointed by the service from a young employee. He was unfriendly, did not seem to understand the difference between salami and cervelat, and did not listen carefully to what I wanted to buy, including the cheese. Good customer service and product knowledge are important, especially in a specialty market, and I believe staff should be better trained. I hope this was just an isolated incident, as I have had very positive experiences here in the past. I would like to continue supporting this market and hope to see improvement.

Great place for Eastern European food! They have a great selection and specialty items around the holidays. On Fat Thursday, they make pączki, so be sure to order in advance since they sell out quickly! If you need something, just let them know, and they will try to order it for you. 🇺🇦

Small, but had a nice selection of European bakery items, sausages and supplies to make your own foods. The person working was knowledgeable but curt, which slightly tainted the experience. Still, I would return if in the area, just to be able to get things I can't find elsewhere.

Being from the Midwest/Chicagoland area and having grown up with a Polish childhood best friend, Eastern European food is dear to my heart. This place reminds me of home. This is the only place I know of in the Nashville area that has these offerings. I was able to find my favorite Prince Polo bars, periogis, Kabanos sausages, pickled cabbage, and so much more. Nashville needs more places like this! Come and support this small business and try something new. The staff is friendly and welcoming.

Very good variation of Eastern European goods. Bread, tea, candy, red caviar, selodka. We bought basturma, yogurt cheese, blood sausages, pryaniks, selodka. It is all very tasty and fresh.Very friendly atmosphere. Store is clean and well organized. Recommend to everyone

Amazing food and candy ! I'm so happy it's open rarely do you find authentic European food that tastes like the really thing.

Small store but has a lot of items from several countries. I found items from The Baltic States that I wanted (there is a Latvian Flag in the front window). Very friendly and helpful staff. They also had Halva, which I have difficulty finding at other stores in the Nashville area. I chose the one from the Ukraine and it was very good. Parking was easy right in front of the store. I wanted to try their in-house made borscht, but they were sold out for the day; maybe I can get some during my next visit. I did get some Lithuanian "Russian" cheese that was good on sandwich with the Latvian Rye Bread.

Love this place. Been there many times. So many products you can't buy on other grocery stores. Who ever likes ethnic food this is the place to stop. For me this store is not close to stop every day. Sometimes I won't find the same item on every visit. That's understandable because of the store size. My favorite item are pickled peppers, rye bread and sour cherry compote.

I think I was a little hard on Aleksey's the first time I reviewed it. Probably just because it isn't as large as some of the international foods markets in Nashville? It definitely is on the smaller side, but since it is really specific to Russian and Eastern European foods, it manages to pack a lot of products into a small space! From meat (sausages, deli meats), pastries/bread, canned/jarred goods (from pickled veggies to jams and preserves), refrigerated items (cheeses, butter, kefir), frozen items (premade dumplings), smoked fish, beer, candies and sweets, and more! (I left with farmer's cheese, butter, smetana, come salmon roe, some herring fillets in oil, a jar of sour cherries in light syrup, sunflower oil, and more!) Whether you're from Russia/Eastern Europe, or have Russian/Eastern European heritage, or are just curious and want to try cooking some Russian/Eastern European foods, Aleksey's is worth checking out. For COVID purposes, it is quite small, but I was at the door just after they opened, and there was only one other person in the shop - it was much easier to stay out of each other's way than it would have been at a regular grocery store!

Great place to get some Russians food! Not a huge selection but definitely worth trying! Will be back soon and I will tell my friends about this place.

Where have you been all my life? Oh, you have been here 15 years? Being of Polish heritage, I have had to drive over 6 hours to find groceries like these. Even though it is out of my way, every chance I am near here, I will stop and buy something familiar to eat or something new to try.

Folks, how many of you are tired of the same mass-produced sausages and deli meats from the big supermarkets? I was searching for an authentic alternative to the fake-smoked selections of sausages I normally have to settle for, and found this small gold mine in Berry Hill that's tucked back in a little plaza on Thompson Lane across from Guitar Center. This place is really small, but the unique selections of ethnic deli meats and sausages makes this place a monster of the midway! The sausages at Aleksey's are genuinely smoked, and you'll find several European and Russian meat products to choose from. They take pride in their especially large deli selection, and I guarantee you won't find familiar name brand products in this meat case. I've had to ask what many of these meats are, and these folks are very friendly and willing to assist and educate you. Today I asked for salami and tried a recommended spicy selection, and it was outstanding! I would love to try one of everything just to educate my palette! They carry a nice selection of canned goods and other non-perishables that you would expect to find in international markets, and they do it in a pretty small space. I want to reiterate that it's the ethnic meat selection that's the star of the show! Markets like this are what you would normally find in multinational communities like NYC, and we're very fortunate to have a place like Aleksey's in the Nashville area. Please stop by and give these folks the opportunity to introduce you to a whole new world of ethnic flavors!

I love this little store! If you love eastern European products, you have to visit this place. I grew up in Germany, so I was super excited to see so many German products as well. The store was very easy to find. The only thing that I did not like, is some of the items were not priced. I would suggest pricing everything to prevent the loss of sales on those items.

I may be too hard on this little shop... I grew up on the west coast in the most Slavic populated community in America. Within a 20 mile radius, I can think of 15 different European markets, grocery stores, bakeries, restaurants, etc. I guess with not running into a Russian/Ukrainian on a typical day should have instantly made me realize that there may not be much in this one Slavic store in Nashville. Anyways, the bread wasn't freshly baked (maybe I'm jut spoiled). The prices for some items such as buckwheat and permeni were way overpriced, something I could get at Whole Foods as an organic option or buy fresh ingredients and make the plate myself. There were no fresh vegetables or fruit. The Raspberry preserve cost twice as much as I'm used to paying (but it's okay, worth it) however as soon as I got home, I realized that my container had already been opened. Anyways, the one great thing I will say is that the selection of imported salami and cheeses was what I expected. SO good! Definitely the only items I'd come back for. All in all, I was slightly disappointed, but then again, I cant blame the shop owner for what was lacking in the shop. Without a massive need for European groceries in Tennessee, it wouldn't be cost effective to include fresh produce or freshly baked goods. But if you're stopping buy for salami, snacks and chocolate, go for it

As many times as I've visited, then returned, then re-returned, to Aleksey's, I surprised myself upon realizing I'd never reviewed it outside of my time writing for "Valley Planet" and "Culture and Leisure Magazine." I discovered this many years ago, in the Dark Ages, when ethnic eateries and markets in the Music City were few and far-in-between...and seldom lasted. That has pleasantly changed over the intervening years... Aleksey's may have been the clarion call of this transmogrification, separating the drought of the 90's from the cornucopia of, say, last Tuesday. My understanding is the actual Aleksey, himself, was originally an expatriate Russian ballet dancer. My understanding now is the newer owner hails from the Republic of Georgia. But bear in mind that although the language barrier is easily hurdled here, there's just enough remaining to make anyone's "understanding" a potential MISunderstanding, so don't take this paragraph as gospel. Aleksey's sports a great number of non-perishable and slightly non-perishable items in the form of canned and "jarred" goods (Riga Sprats, Polish Teas, Smoked Fish), as well as candies. These originate from nations far and wide and, though predominately Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, and the like, you'll find Czech, German, and other items. Ratcheting everything up a notch or eight is a very enticing refrigerated area teeming with numerous sausages, cheeses, and the like. I can't say which come from over the waves and which from, say, Chicago, but chances are you'll be overjoyed, regardless. Imported "Salads" and Slaws and, during the holidays, a GREAT selection of imported holiday candies... My last visit, I was very happy to discover Aleksey's offers fresh Kielbasa (well, frozen, but uncooked)...unfortunately, they were out at that time. I will be buying that every time I go, every time they have it in stock, particularly since the nearest source after Aleksey's of which I'm aware is in one of the war-torn areas of Saint Louis. On one of my visits prior to that, I happened upon, and nabbed, a cheese-infused pastry of some kind. There's always something new, and something tried-and-true upon which you can depend. You won't find many options around these parts to compare with this neighborhood deli. True, there's World Market, but that chain (as much as it's deservedly revered) can't match the freshness and variety of the refrigerated items here and, in its endeavor to be the be-all and end-all, can't concentrate as heavily on Middle and Eastern Europe as does this more specialized shoppe. Give thanks that Music City denizens are lucky enough to have the option to shop at both, then do so. Aleksey's is comparable to, say, Huntsville's European Market, Birmingham's Nabeel's International Market and Mediterranean Food Market, and Al Baraka near Chattanooga (though I'm led to believe ownership has changed and that's altered the food offerings there). After that, you're pretty much compelled to head to Hotlanta. Yes, you can always shop online, but why, unless it's for something so rare you'd put up with buying it sight unseen and taste un...licked? If you're not that familiar with such fare as Swiss/German Cervelat (sausage), true Polish Podlaski or Morski (cheeses), or Russian Moskovskaya (sort of a salami/kiełbasa family member), Aleksey's would be the perfect place to knock out a platter for some festive occasion and offer the meaty/cheesy ambrosia to your friends or coworkers or family or neighbors or people in need of bribing. As I once said, you can always tell the quality of a wedding by the number of cheeses you can't name at the reception, and that's also a good rule of thumb elsewhere (for both you and your self-created Aleksey's samplers). And, while on the subject, "The Rule of Preserving Thumb" tells us to have Aleksey's do all the slicing FOR you. Now, show all those wannabe foodies that you've stopped wanting to be and now ARE be. Stock up here and get out the mandolin--the slicey, not the stringed, kind--you'll be the highlight of the social season on whatever rung of the ladder you currently occupy. Or just grab some snacks, hole up in front of, say, "Bates Motel," and indulge yourself to the dismay of all non-participants.

Love Aleksey's! Great selection of all kinds of stuff from cupboard staples to baked treats. Speaking of which, their homemade baked goods are great, especially the poppyseed bread in the small case by the register. Fun bite-sized cream cheese frozen treats. Staff is very cordial. Excellent prices. GO!

Wish this place offered Russian mini pies made with potatoes and mushrooms, cabbage or meat, like you can find in New York. I like to shop for Russian chocolate there, especially around Christmas!

First, a great Polish or Russian or Slavic place better have more than one type of Kielbasa. This does. I travel to the Nashville area 2-3 times a year to visit family and one of those days, I'll drive the hour to Aleksey's to pick up some different styles of Kielbasa and pierogi to take back to my mother (Ruthenian background) to have instead of the standard store beef/pork/turkey versions you get these days. Location: back side of a U shaped mini mall. Across from a main mall. Parking is adequate in front and there are a small number of places around the back. It is setup as a little market store, with small aisles of cookies, canned vegetables, condiments from all over, a frozen display with pierogi, soups, etc and a butcher display with the various meats, some I can't pronounce and some bring back childhood memories. The selection of breads are reasonable...I like the Vollkornbrot style from Germany. Service: help with the butcher display. the rest of the time, you wander around and pick out what you want, asking questions over the counter. Price: more than a Winn Dixie on the items, but here you're getting the original items and not stuff that sells on a mass market area. Going Back: whenever we're in the area.

I love this store. We went here after driving all the way from Alabama. It was great. You can find so many wonderful things which I really miss from Europe. We got some Kinder chocolate and Russian Soda. They have meat, cheeses, bread and if you are looking for any type of mashrooms they will have them. And the people working there are so friendly. Will be coming back here a lot!!!

I found Aleksey's Market on accident and it is such a cool little place. They specialize in Russian and Eastern European food and offer everything from traditional meats and cheeses to bread and desserts. This was also one of the few places in Nashville I saw that sold Turkish Delight during the holidays! Be forewarned before you go, this is an authentic Russian/Eastern European market. Most of the labels are in Russian. So, If you are looking to cook up some authentic Eastern European cuisine or just looking for a unique little market to browse, I highly suggest Aleksey's Market.

"Ya Lyublyu Aleksey Market" Since i have some family ties to eastern european culture and cuisine I'm overly extactact that Nashville has a place like Alekseys. If I want to party like I'm back in Kiev, Kharkiv or Balakleya, then this place fulfills the required necessities, except awesome vodka. Pickled herring, kielbasa, caviar (beluga & salmon roe), pelmeni, pasztet, pickles, pickled mushrooms and veggies, smoked sprats, cold smoked salmon, koreiskaya markov, true Russian style mayonnaise, a huge variety of cheeses and salamis. Canned imports of all kinds to explore. I wish that "Taste of Russia" was still open. It would probably of been more successful in an area that Alekseys is located in rather than in a snooty "chain loving" area like Cool Springs. The great attraction to Alekseys for me is the superior selection of salami & dried pork products that inhabit the main deli display case. Its filled with a selection of meats that are primarily found in eastern european delis. Then the cold case to the right of the register is full of smoked fish, caviar, herring and packaged cold smoked salmon!! On top of that deli case theres dried or jerkied calamari/fish. Awesome with a Russian/Ukrainian beer (piva) to chase. Theres chocolates, sweets, cakes, breads, kavas, sour cream, spices, ketchups, and sauces. The service is great and the prices are reasonable for imported specialty products.

A healthy selection of Russian staples: dried fish products, caviar, Russian chocolates, various pickled items, a small frozen section, mustard's, drinks syrups, movies, cheeses, and a serious selection of cold cuts. All of this and more can be yours at Aleksey's for rather low prices. Located in a small strip with Applebee's and Pizza Hut, it's easy to pass this market if you don't know what you're looking for. Even if you're not in the market for Russian goods, it's worth a visit to try some of the Russian chocolates that are sold by the pound. My favorite one has a polar bear on the wrapper, you can't miss it. They have some interesting Russian sodas that are worth a shot for a new experience. There's also a small take-out counter. On my last visit borscht and stuffed cabbage were the specials. I didn't get a chance to ask if they offered other prepared food items, I'll find out on my next visit.

This place carries primarily Russian and Eastern European items; however, they do have a limited number of German items. That is our main reason for visiting because my husband is a German National. He really likes the German bread selection as well as the deli selections. For me, it is all about the Kinder Schokolade. I adore those chocolate bars and it is rare for me to see them in Nashville so I usually scoop up an armful and craftily hide them from said German husband lest he eats them all! Aside from the bread, deli selections and chocolate, there are times we get smoked fish or smoked eel as well as jars or cans of herring. This last trip I also got a small, but pricey, jar of caviar that I am looking forward to indulging in as well. We also snagged a couple of jars of preserves and some German coffee. We usually head here a few times a year to get our fix on some his favorites. Although now that I think about it, I may consider sneaking by there soon and loading up on more Kinder Schokolade without him there to see how many I buy!

Rating upgrade! I took another opportunity to visit Aleksey's today. Last time I was there must have been between frozen food shipments, because the selection was even better today! They had a wide variety of pierogi, yes pierogi in Nashville, including the much-coveted all Farmer's cheese variant that is nigh impossible to find outside of the Pierogi Pocket of the Northeast and Midwest. This week they were carrying Grandma's Pierogi from Buffalo, NY, but I cannot vouch for this being an all the time brand yet. They are nice, small pierogi sold in big two-pound bags at a very reasonable $9.99, considering the shear mass of the bag. The selection does appear to vary, so I'd recommend making two well-spaced visits if you are finding them for the first time and are dissatisfied with the product selection. I had concerns about the lack of non-Russian products last time, but that was apparently a fluke. Also keep in mind many products carry different names in different Eastern European countries, but are really the same product. For example, Kwas is also Kvas, Kvass, etc... I'm consistently impressed with the selection, overall, despite my prior concerns. They have a wide variety of product types, considering the store is actually quite small, and everything they carry is excellent. The candy selection is awesome! Highly recommended!

What an amazing place! My son's school is studying different cultures and how they celebrate the holidays. One of the countries they are studying is Russia. I researched places to buy authentic Eastern European foods and treats. I found these reviews online and had to try it out. Well, it was even better that I imagined. The owner was so kind and helpful. She showed me just what I needed and made me feel so welcome. Amazing foods, deli case, candies all in a tucked away store. Even if you have never considered coming to a Russian grocery/market, you should try it! Amazing caviars, cheeses, smoked and dried fishes and more. Thanks for an awesome experience!

2013/008 I never pass up an ethnic grocery store, and this place being right near where I had lunch just made it easy for me. I studied only half a semester of Russian back in the day and of course I could not read most things in this place. But that didn't matter -- half the fun in a grocery store like this is buying something you can't read and hoping it turns out to be something you'd like. They have canned/jarred goods (lots of beet products!), candies, oils, deli meats, breads, a refrigerated section, videos, etc. It's a small store, but the selection is varied. The woman was nice and I know she'd gladly help me if I asked. But she could tell I was only browsing, for which I was grateful. I did end up buying some candy, candied nuts, and some other random things to remind me to come back.

Decent Eastern European store, carries all of my favorites (cod liver, buckwheat, cottage cheese, rye bread, millet). It could be better of course, but again, it's not Brooklyn and for what it takes, given the traffic, it's probably not easy for them to hold really fresh produce and goods. Some things can be found at places like World Market for lower price, but some can't be found anywhere else. I hope they will never go out of business. The service is a true Eastern European experience (i.e., very ... dry and succinct).

My husband and I went in to Aleksey's for the first time today. We bought Kvass, rye bread, cucumbers in brine, honey cake and various cheeses. The woman running the shop was very gracious: friendly, welcoming, helpful. As soon as we got in the car I tried the cucumbers and they were so delicious! Then my husband thought that we could have a picnic. We drove to Sevier Park and sat out in the shade. We ate a little of everything except the honey cake and finished it off with a bit of Kvass. It felt so good to lay in the grass and eat good food, a perfect Sunday! Back at home, we just now ate the honey cake for supper and it was amazing: sweet, light and with a perfect honey flavor! Great service, amazing products: Aleksey's has a new loyal customer!

If your looking for homemade paczki in Nashville (which this is the only place I could find). Keep looking !!!! These were horrible !! Taste like dried up bread with only a teaspoon of filling.

If one lives in New York or Chicago, one is probably used to going to delis like this, a small store chock full of delicacies from mostly Russia but also from all over eastern Europe. For Nashville however, this place is a true gem. I went to the store because my brother in law had recommended it and because I was working half a block away. I really wasn't expecting much, aside from the delicious half-sour pickles that he had already turned me on to, but when I found was a store full of yumminess. Salami and Bologna amd dozens of other kinds of meats from all over Russia and Poland. Cheeses hard and soft from Denmark to the Ukraine. Borscht and stuffed cabbage and pickled vegetables every size and shape. I picked up some of the pickles I came for, a cheese or two and some pickled garlic. If only I was a meat eater (or at least didn't keep kosher) I'd give this store the extra star. But for those of you that do eat meat Go check it out (and then tell me about it).

i feel compelled to give this place four stars, as everyone else already has :p but for real, this place is cool. it really is a little piece of russia here in nashville. i have a russian friend that always had the BEST chocolates at his place, and he hipped me to this place when i asked him where they came from. now, all the super yummy ones that i remember him having are unfortunately not carried anymore. but, they do carry kinder brand candies which i remember from living in germany when i was younger (army brat represent!!). the deli meats and cheeses always look so good and i know one day i will fold. i've noticed the milkshake assembly by the register, too, so i'll have to check that out one day. all in all, it's worth coming by here and checking the place out. a nice little unique business in nashville that i hope sticks around for a long, long time. eric b

This is the only place in Nashville to get Russian and Polish food! I wish there was a Polish or Russian restaurant, but this spot keeps me stocked to cook at home!

I didn't know people still hung their meat up in shops until I entered here, curious about what a Russian market would consist of. I'm still not completely sure because many of the items were in Russian or Slavic, but it was really fun to have a look around at the place. There's a table as you enter with local ads in Slavic, and I'd be lying if I didn't pick some up as souvenirs. Hey, it's a recession. You get your culture where you can. The place also has movie rentals in, you guessed, the Russian language. Gotta love it.

I can't believe that we were able to find our beloved poppy seed roll in Nashville!!! The people there are super nice and helpful. The chocolates are yummy; they have the old world display where you can pick individual candies and pay per pound. If you are a visual person you will love the candy wrappers as well. My only question is when are you going to open a restaurant!? Oh...they occasionally have the very unique T-shirt on the wall for sale. I bought a Harley Davidson of Moscow T! Yeah, really!

I've been going here for quite a while and finally feel compelled to extoll it's virtues after me and Pablo just scarfed down a packet of lamb dumplings and a whole honey cake, Quite delicious. You can find a good selection of meats and cheeses here including that gourmet delicacy HeadCheese. All good value. The dumpling selection is terrific and be sure to pick up a jar of beets with horseradish to daub the dumplings with and a jar of sour cherries to drop in your vodka when you get home. All great comfort food and pleasant service but slow because there is always 3 or 4 peeps in line. Russian beer and videos available.

I was totally lost in here, since pretty much everything is in Russian, but I certainly recognize, and appreciate the significant of this great store in a multi-cultural town like Nashville. I tried a juice out of the cooler and a selection of candy that I have never seen before. There were some unexpected items there too, like beer from Fort Collins, Colorado. Although I guess Russian and Fort Collins both have communist ties...

A fairly good eastern European charcouterie counter, and therefore the best deli counter in Nashville, bar none. East Nashville's hipster butchers (who I appreciate too) will have to wax their mustaches for another 200 years before they can produce something that can stand to Pick's Hungarian Winter Salami. Also has a small number of fresh and frozen Russian and Eastern European foods, as well as shelf groceries. Service is delightfully Russian.

I love this place. They have my favorite beers and all sorts of Russian and German candies. Their meats and cheeses are fresh and delicious. The people who work there are nice and always have a smile on their face.

A great experience comrade. They are so helpful in giving you samples you might leave full. Very small store, but items you won't find elsewhere in Nashville - from the cheeses, to the deli selections, to the borscht. Feels like a real Brighton Beach shop sans the fact you're staring at an Appleby's when you leave. A great Saturday adventure.

We are lucky to have an authentic European market like this in Nashville! Being Polish and from the Northeast I was thrilled to have discovered this little gem. Their deli sausage meat selection is amazing. All the items in the store are things I am used to seeing at similar places back home.

I just found this place yesterday after having made several trips to Nashville. What a great store! It was very neatly organized and the prices were reasonable. The lady working there was very pleasant and helpful. I was able to get some Russian chocolates for my kids. I was unable to make my annual trip last year so it was great to be able to get some. Next trip to Nashville will include a cooler for some pelmini!
