Located just off the 101, across from the Madonna Plaza, is the Extravagant Madonna Inn. Huge parking lot, so parking shouldn't be a problem! Inside, there is The Copper Cafe & Bakery, Silver Bar, and The Gold Rush Steakhouse. My family and I have been going here, at least once a year, since we moved from The Bay Area, decades ago. This was for my Sister's annual Bday drinks and dinner.
While walking up the stone pathway, you notice well manicured landscaping and water fountains. When entering the restaurant, you notice the huge, heavy, solid, wooden doors. You immediately are welcomed by the maître d'. You check in and then go to the right to the bar. Then after a cocktail or two, you go back and your table should be ready. We got our typical Dolly Parton booth. The dining room is pure opulence. There's a Dancefloor in the distance, a grand piano and staircase going up. There's leather booths everywhere that are a pink, pink wall paper and red and pink carpet. Gold is splashed everywhere even the ceiling. It screams over the top, but in a great way. Our server was awesome. She was on it and we never had to ask for anything. They have a gentleman come around and refill your waters and collect any plates that have been used. First class service. The complementary rules are always warm fluffy and delicious with the soft served butter on the side. It just is a lovely starter. The relish trays your typical starter for an older time. I ordered the cheesy garlic bread and The Pick & Shovel Turkey Sliders. I've had a lot of different things here so I wanted to try something new. My sister gave me her soup, which was the chicken and rice soup of the day. I thought the soup was OK. The broth had a good depth of flavors, saltiness, chicken and vegetable, but the chicken was a little bit of a texture of a canned soup. It was so so. The garlic cheesy bread is truly my favorite thing here. All it is you take extremely fluffy, soft garlic bread and add this beautiful layer of cheese and then throw it under the broiler. What you're left with, is a soft, yet slight crunch, bite of garlic, cheddar cheese and onion with a gooey top. Smoky and toasty to perfection. Just awesome! The Pick and Shovel Turkey Sliders were decent. The turkey patties were salty, peppery, charred, moist. The cheddar onion ring, and barbecue sauce added a nice western flare to it. Elements of fried, sweet, sugary, molasses and fatty, creamy, cheese. it also had a nice special sauce on the bottom that incorporated another nice creamy, smoky, sweet pickle, element. The bun was lightly toasted and soft. It was pretty decent. Normally, I would order a slice of cake, but I was just too full. Their slices are usually pretty large here and very sweet and decadent.
The whole thing about going to Madonna Inn is experiencing the opulence and decadence and old time charm that doesn't really exist anymore. Between the service at the bar and the restaurant, the decor and the formal approach, it brings something to the table, that is sometimes missing in nowadays pub/casual type atmosphere.
Until Next Time
