I moved into this building a week ago, and I have to say—the management team is great! When I first moved in, my apartment floor wasn’t clean, but the management quickly took care of it by sending cleaners the next day. The building itself is beautiful, with great amenities, including a nice pool, hot tub, dog area, and a fantastic rooftop. There’s also a gym and a stylish clubhouse. The prices are reasonable, and the neighbors are really friendly. Highly recommend moving in and becoming part of this wonderful community!

The new management at our building led by Angel and her team has really helped improve things over here. It’s always been a nice building, but there were previously some persistent issues with trash and fire alarms that have been improved a lot. The building amenities are really nice, and generally things are well maintained. I also love living within walking distance to Bart, along with million great restaurants, bars, music venues and cafes, which is why I sold my car when I moved here and never looked back.

One month in, got our SUV stolen from the monthly paid garage. There are 2 levels, one is from the city (lower level) and another from the apt complex (upper level) and those you have to be on a waitlist to get on that one. Even with a monthly paid parking, the building adm does not take any kind of responsibility since it is the city level. Either way, since day one, we've seen theft issues happening on cars and bicycle storage, regardless of them having cameras. We've felt highly unsafe and regretting our decision to move here. —— We did come to the adm office, 2x. This review is after the no action and solution proposed.

The tour was great. Beautiful well kept property and very polite and professional leasing staff and management. Be sure to ask in advance because there were surprises and barriers when it came to the application submittal process, the specials and qualifying constrains.

I’ve lived here for two years and have had the best renting experience I’ve had in Oakland. Amenities are great, maintenance is super fast, and Angel in leasing is such a great handler of many random requests the residents might have.

Living at 2330 Webster Apartments has been quite disappointing. The piling trash in the loading dock, which is also the route to the elevators on Valdez Street, creates an unsightly and unhygienic environment. Unleashed dogs are common, leading to dirty carpets marred by pet urine, which makes the common areas unpleasant. The stairways often have trash that can sit for weeks, adding to the overall neglect. Frequent false fire alarms are a nuisance, disrupting residents at all hours. The parking lot, shared with a nearby restaurant and the city as public parking, is often smelly and poorly maintained. Adding to the discomfort, the smell of weed is always in the air due to residents not following rules and management failing to enforce them. These issues indicate a lack of proper management and upkeep. If cleanliness and a well-maintained living environment are important to you, 2330 Webster may not meet your expectations.

The turn around in management teams has been plenty but the current team is fantastic! Angel, Tiarah, Ramon- the reasons I’ll stay here and would refer anyone to live here

This apartment used to have really bad fire alarms, but when the new management team came in, they took steps to fix the issue and now the errant alarms have entirely stopped! The new management under Angel has been very responsive, accessible and easy to work with. We're super grateful that they managed to fix the fire alarms!

Yelp
After nearly three years at Alexan (moved in just after it opened, left early 2023). I'm sad to see the state it's in now under the new management. There used to be a wonderful community there with the old management team. Most of the neighbors I know left around the same time as me. Two lease renewals and we had enough. They started renting to ppl with reactive dog breeds that were previously not allowed. There was a resident on my floor that has a pit puppy but was hardly walked. You could smell the old dog pee in the entire hallway it was sad and disgusting. The carpet in front of their unit was all brown and stained. And dogs have been attacked before by other big untrained dogs, and nothing is done about it. There were also frequent break-ins to the mail room where bike storage is so I started keeping my bike in my apartment. I caught a guy once but he ran away. Cameras and security ppl are of no use. Old management used to do paint touch ups in the hallway and clean the exterior windows, New management did nothing. I know there were some tragedies in the building as well. New management staff is undertrained to handle this kind of building. Wonderful walkable lake Merritt neighborhood but... The building and its community has fallen apart.

Yelp
I've been living here for just over a month and was waiting to leave a review. While the bad reviews initially scared me away, I'm so glad I gave the Alexan a chance. I love living here! A few things that make the Alexan great: The value for money is incredible-- the prices and deals make it feel like a steal, especially considering the amenities (pool and nice gym) and location. Obviously, I would expect concessions aren't as great at renewal, but every building is like that. The on-site staff is exceptional. Tiarah, Derwin, Ramon, and Angel deserve a special mention - they're incredibly helpful, nice, and invested in the building. I've found a great sense of community here. Neighbors are friendly, and there's an active building chat where people are always willing to help each other out and let you borrow things. Management has hosted one building-hosted event, but otherwise, neighbors find ways to get together on the chat. Maintenance has been top-notch. Just last night, when my smoke detector started beeping at 11 PM, Derwin was here within minutes. Every other concern has been addressed within 48 hours. The property is well-maintained overall and always being cleaned. My Thoughts on Things I Read in Other Reviews: Safety: I've never felt unsafe in the neighborhood. It's comparable to any other urban area I've lived in - just use normal precautions. I heard a non-resident kept tailgating and getting into the building, but management said they now have a restraining order on him, and this was before I moved in. Noise: The pool area is quiet and locks after 10 PM. I'm a light sleeper and haven't experienced any issues with excessive noise except for one day when they turned over the apartment above me for the next tenant. Fire Alarms: In my time here, I haven't heard a building-wide fire alarm go off once. The ones inside our units are somewhat sensitive, and I have had issues when I don't turn on the fan, but it's easy to hit the button and reset. Management: The new management team has been here for about 6 months and is good. They're responsive and seem to care about residents' experiences. Parking: I was on the waitlist for my first month but just found out I'm off the waitlist and will have a spot next month. The garage is very secure and safe (it also helps that I still get phone service in the garage). Location: It's great - close to BART for commuting. Lots of nice restaurants nearby. Super close walk to Whole Foods and Grocery Outlet. Loading Dock: There can sometimes be large items and lots of trash in the loading dock area, mostly due to neighbors. Management can be a bit lax about this, which has pros (easy to get rid of junk, use for moving in) and cons. The Few Downsides: Package room: the package room is pretty disorganized, so it can be hard to find your package unless you have a photo of what the box looks like. I haven't had an issue with any packages being stolen, and there's also an Amazon locker for smaller packages. The buzzer system doesn't work, making it tricky to let guests in (you always have to go downstairs). My lease also only gave me one key. I wish there was a digital or keyless entry system. The leasing process was slower than I would have liked. I had to follow up a few times to get what I needed, but I also am a bit impatient (I like getting things done quickly). Sometimes, there's trash in the streets surrounding the building. However, this isn't the management's fault - it's more of a city issue. The building itself is always clean and well-maintained. Despite these minor issues, I'm genuinely happy with my decision to live here. The positives far outweigh the negatives, and the value you get for the price is outstanding. If you're considering this building, don't let the negative reviews deter you - it's worth checking out for yourself!

Yelp
I would avoid this place due to poor management. The office does not respond to emails and rarely answers the phone. Frequent security issues- homeless in the parking garage and common areas, attempts to break into units, bikes stolen, packages stolen. I've had 4 packages stolen since living here. Safety issues/incidents are also not communicated to residents Management often provides no response to issues presented to them, or will act unconcerned and offer no solutions.

Yelp
WARNING: Be warry of your choice here. (Experience from a former resident of 3 years) .... Prepare yourself for a spicy read I had moved out of the Bay late last year (December) to SoCal and I recently had an issue with fraud that occurred last month which was indicated it happened in the Bay area. I reached out to management for assistance if they can just provide me documentation that include my time of residency and new address (Which they requested incase if any mail needed to be forwarded to me at my new address). I spoke with a representative multiple times and was given false promises of providing information to me. After several phone calls they started to dodge my calls when I was checking in when I didn't receive anything back after they said they would send documents via email after a few hours passed. I was able to indicate they were dodging my calls cause I attempted to call them on my work phone right after they dodged my call on my main number, which they picked up in quick manner. After picking up while using a different number they informed me that they will not provide what was promised and I would need to submit a police report to get any information of my past residency with them. It surprises me that this would be required since no money transactions with them was involved and all I needed was help on them providing perhaps 3 lines saying my stay duration at the establishment to help support my fraud case. It makes me think as if they were hiding something from me related to the fraud case or perhaps didn't care. If they could have simple picked up the phone and told me due to company policy that extra steps were needed this post wouldn't have been created but I had to go to an extra extent especially since the root of the problem occurred at the establishment. Be careful of your commitment with this establishment as if you may read from this post that being a good Samaritan is not along the lines they follow and I fear that maybe their father company maybe are the same since they are an extension and representation of them. I can say the first year was a pleasant experience but as former property managers have left, things quickly landslide down for the worse from what I have herd and currently experienced.

Yelp
(This review was far longer and infinitely more specific before I did an AI assisted rewrite to meet the character limit inflicted upon my contribution.) Living in this building has been all over the place, largely due to the current property management company's seemingly profit-focused approach at the expense of resident retention. The feeling of being exploited by the Avenue5's constant desire to fill units at what I'm assuming is an increasingly expensive standard, without consideration for retaining or impacting the local community, has been distressing. The management's indifference towards retaining residents has led to a cycle of constant turnover, affecting everything from elevator accessibility to the quality of community events. Events that used to be well-planned, enjoyable gatherings have now become last-minute, half-hearted infrequent affairs. Instead of fun and engaging activities, sponsored events by banks and companies offering pizza have become the norm. All the while, they've been steadily increasing fees without visible improvements to the property. Trying to communicate concerns or suggestions feels like shouting into a void. Resident feedback seems to vanish into thin air, with the leasing office showing little willingness to genuinely address issues in writing. It's frustrating to see policies selectively enforced or completely disregarded. The management team might be well-intentioned individuals, I want to think the disconnect is that their hands are tied by Avenue5 Residential's policies or a lack of supportive resources. However, it feels that residents' input is not a priority. The lack of response to important inquiries or concerns, especially regarding increased fees or other issues, is not just frustrating but also anxiety-inducing. Dealing with the greedflation during the lease renewal process was incredibly distressing. It felt like there was an implied leveraging of their legal team against my lack of resources to ensure a lack of contest against an increase that rivaled California rent increase policies, with the reasoning given that they are exempted from Oakland rent ordinances, this was ultimately stepped away from but never felt accounted for. The handling of various policies and noise regulations has felt arbitrary and at at times retaliatory. Moreover, inconsistencies in various management approaches between old and new administrations have added to distress and unanticipated inconvenience or violations among residents. While the building has its perks, such as modern amenities, that may or may not function consistently for residents, and a convenient location, these positives feel overshadowed by a myriad of issues. The lack of transparency, lack of responses that exemplify genuine concern for resident's ideal living space, and what feels like a profit-driven cost cutting agenda severely impact the overall living experience. In conclusion, this building has the potential to be a five-star community, but that would require a major shift in management attitude and policies. It's not just about fixing amenities or holding events; it's about genuinely caring for and involving the community in decisions that affect our daily lives while being transparent and accountable. If you seek to live here ask questions. Ask for a demonstration of the fire pit. Ask how much residents typically pay a month for trash. Ask for a demonstration of the printer. Ask about how domestic violence and feelings of safety around other residents who may be of documented concern are handled. Ask how often the luxurious gas range sets off incredibly sensitive fire alarms in the building. Ask about package security and garage break ins. Ask about the last event put on for residents. Ask about how resident feedback is gathered and put to use. Please be inquisitive about what matters to you.

Yelp
This is seriously the best place I've ever lived. I've been here for 20 months and it's been everything I dreamed of and more. I want to especially highlight my favorite leasing members: Marlene takes care of business. She's always responsive, on top of things, so friendly and easy to talk to and work with. She makes everything run so smoothly and she works so hard. She clearly cares about her residents and I see the relationships she's built in this community. The customer service is unparalleled. Kayla is always there for everyone. If it's a package I can't find, a delivery I have coming, or just a friendly face and some help. Kayla jumps in and makes it happen. She greets everyone and handles all resident needs. Tim from maintenance is stellar with ensuring anything not working gets fixed immediately and communicates on timelines or if a part is taking time to be delivered. He's so polite when he enters if I'm on a work meeting or something and even went above and beyond for me with getting a package I needed. The building takes safety and security very seriously (we have security!!), all the common areas and amenities are UNREAL (jacuzzi!!!!) they even try to have guest events and snacks for us on special days. I love my unit also of course - in-unit washer/dryer, large bedroom for a king bed, love the navy blue finish and the dark wood flooring, two large closets and an entry closet. There's so much more but this review is already long. Ownership / management: your team is doing an amazing job! Everyone deserves a bonus!!! Future residents: come live here it's great! Also all the residents are so nice!

Yelp
Building management is awful and completely unresponsive. There are constant break-ins, and regular theft of bikes and packages. Residents let their dogs pee and poop in the hallways and stairwells. People smoke in the building, in their units, and in stairwells. Upstairs noise is a pain for everyone, as is noise from the businesses on the street below. Go read the other 1 star reviews on google and yelp, they're all accurate. It's an overall terrible experience.

Yelp
I have lived here for 2 years and it is tough to want to leave. The location is great and getting better as new restaurants and bars opening in the area. Easy access to walk the lake or to Oakland's first Friday celebrations. My interior pool facing location is super quiet and gets great natural light. Nothing makes the place feel more welcome than Antonette, the office management and the community staff. They provide so many amenities that are not communicated as part of your lease; like free coffee, community parties and networking gatherings. It's the smiles and kind greetings for me. They make it feel like home. But also, that I am part of a community. They do everything they can to create a safe, fun, clean and valuable living environment. So go see Antonette today! Her kind smile will help you become a neighbor and join the community.

Yelp
I've had a great experience living here over the past 9 months and that's coming from someone who moved from sunny San Diego! Althea at the leasing office helped make it welcoming from the moment I walked in for a tour, to move-in, and continues to be a friendly face that makes it feel like a community! Key pros: Super convenient location close to stores/restaurants/the lake, updated interiors, nice amenities (pool, fitness center, rooftop and BBQ grills stay well maintained), helpful and responsive staff! Good to know: It is still city living though so the occasional construction downstairs can cause minor inconveniences and garage parking ($240 extra) feels like a must for safety in the area. My 1-br facing towards the pool manages to somehow be very quiet with a nice sunny view!

Yelp
This complex is like living in one of those sci-fi/dystopian nightmares where you are constantly being monitored by Big Brother... They watch every move you make and any small infraction leads to a vicious warning and threats of you getting removed. Even when following their overly strict guidelines, your guests will be detained and questioned. This feels almost like a prison situation. The staff is extremely rude and only friendly when they are trying to get information from you or your guests to use against you. After a while, you won't even want to use the facilities that you are entitled to as their constant surveillance will distress you. If you enjoy living in constant fear of removal and if you like living in a 1984-esque environment this is the place for you. However, if you like to be treated like a responsible adult look elsewhere. Freedom awaits you in another building. If I could leave 0 stars I would...

Yelp
Although I did not end up renting here, just wanted to give a special shout-out to Marlene from their leasing office. She was beyond amazing, helpful, very responsive and just overall pleasant. More apartments need to having leasing agents like her. Love her!

Yelp
I moved to the Alexan during the Holidays and it was such a smooth move in. Antonette was very helpful in all aspects, and I couldn't imagine going through the process with out her. She was professional and welcomed me with open arms assuring me that The Alexan was the right place for me to call, home. Thanks to Antonette, I look forward to elevating and growing here. She is the best and represents Alexan Webster well! Besides my apartment, which is oh so lovely, the rooftop and pool are my favorite places to be. Thank You Antonette & Alexan Webster

Yelp
I had the pleasure of touring with Althea today. She was absolutely amazing! She answered all my questions with patience, she had the best energy and spirit, she was also very knowledgeable of the property (I had my 1 year old niece with me, who she gave snacks and drinks to too ) Alexan Webster is such a beautiful property with great amenities. The inside of the apartments are very modern with the best kitchen (stainless steel appliances) I definitely recommend this property.

Yelp
I love living at Alexan Webster. The building is super clean, always smells good, the tenants are friendly, and the office and maintenance team is super responsive. Special shout out to Althea, who I toured with; she's gone above and beyond since I moved in about six months ago. She even goes as far as to let me know if I have a package, which she always organizes in the mailroom, and personally follows up on any requests I've put in.

Yelp
We lived in this place for a year and loved it. Terrific management. Jasmine and Rafael were alway on top of everything. The building was extremely clean and the neighborhood was great. 5 mins walk to whole foods and target both can spoil anyone easily. Lake Merritt is less than 5 mins away by walk. Sad that we had to move.

Suh-Mii Y.

Yelp
I moved in in May 2021 during COVID have loved living here. The staff are amazing and so on top of addressing resident needs and concerns. Althea, who originally toured me, goes above and beyond to ensure the residents feel welcome and their concerns are addressed. I looked at over 20 building before deciding on this one, and ultimately signed here because: 1) Location - close to bars, restaurants, and breweries. I feel safe walking around at night. Close to Lake Merritt. 2) My unit layout is amazing - I wanted a breakfast bar and open concept and its perfect for living/hosting. 3) THE STAFF. In addition to Althea being one of the best leasing consultants ever, the maintenance staff are truly incredible. I have never been kept waiting to have concerns addressed. Cecil and his team, who run maintenance, are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful and truly care about the residents. They have never nickel and dimed me about things or made me feel like a burden for requesting repairs. 4) The building is on the newer side so the appliances, flooring, built-in furnishings and amenities are still nice. But because the building has been around for a few years and occupancy is high, the management is focused on keeping existing residents happy vs trying to sell new leases. This is an issue with a lot of buildings in the area - the consultants are great until you move in, and then when you move in they are too busy working issues and selling leases to be attentive to the residents who live tehre. the building is NOT so new that the leasing consultants / management are focused on building occupancy. Because the

Yelp
I will say that I loved my unit. We rented when it was brand new, however you could see that the materials used weren't meant to last very long. The carpet is pretty cheap. The paint is even cheaper. We scuffed it on move in and then when I tried to clean the scuff off the paint started coming off as well. The bathroom sink's faucet was definitely installed too far back from the bowl and as a result prepare to get your entire countertop wet when you wash your hands. Overall luxury is only surface level and the only advantage this complex had was being brand new, but it's been over a year and common spaces are rapidly showing their age and then some. The hallway carpets are disgusting if you decide to actually look at them. Cleaners were hired to deep clean them, but I honestly can't tell the difference. Every once in a while the jacuzzi get a murky tint in the water that lasts for days. This most recent time it took on a yellow/brown tint, which did not look clean. Also if you happen to get a pool facing unit be prepared to hear screaming kids, drunk pool goers and people blasting music through boom boxes daily. I have to laugh that this place bills itself as a luxury apartment complex, it most certainly is not. Lastly, good luck trying to break your lease early. Crime in Oakland has risen drastically thanks to Covid and the neighborhood is not safe. Someone was robbed at gunpoint in the Alexan Garage the week after we moved out. Management doesn't care and you will be paying the full amount despite some empty statements during lockdown about understanding that times are hard, new flexible lease terms etc. They will nickel and dime you at move out as other users have said and if you have a pet they will charge you an extra steam clean on the carpets, needed or not. Management is super robotic at negotiations and it's basically like trying to talk to a brick wall, so don't waste your time. They will default to boilerplate corporate statements. They don't do compassion because this is a large company that only cares about their bottom line. This might be harsh but this is not luxury and for them to masquerade as such is a total misrepresentation. Don't be fooled by the complexes "newness" it's only slightly over 1.5 years old and it's already in mediocre condition.

Yelp
Love Alexan Webster! Beautiful building, great amenities, and location. Management is super nice and helpful, especially Althea, who has always made us feel welcome since our first meeting.

Shawn C.

Yelp
Units are great. Decor and lobby are phenomenal. A true luxury complex with a few key deficiencies you wouldn't even find at other lower-end complexes. 1. Love the central AC in the units -- but so very loud. It is not a minor nuisance. It is LOUD when it cranks up and when it turns off. It could just be my unit but given I moved in when it was new... 2. NO where to dispose of large items. They make you call your own personal hauling service to get rid of big items like mattresses etc... 3. Packages can be stolen. Why? The packages come and are scattered across the lobby. Anyone who has entry can pick it up and take it. Also, if you get a package you aren't expecting, you won't know because no one will notify you of it (unless it's small enough for them to put into an Amazon locker). 4. Parking -- waitlist waitlist waitlist. Suddenly they sold their space to the city to allow public parking while actual residents are still on waitlist. Nice. Besides that, overall very modern and chic. Staff is generally nice.

Maya K.

Yelp
The staff at Alexan Webster have been so helpful during a stressful time of trying to find an apartment community. Kayla at the leasing office answered all of our questions and gave us a very thorough tour, showing us multiple available units and all of the amenities. She also was very responsive when I came back to the office with additional questions. Not only was she kind, but she was also knowledgeable about the property and the leasing details. Applying was such a smooth process because of her. Robyn was also very kind and helpful! She was very understanding about how difficult moving can be and she was willing to make it as smooth as possible for us.

Alan H.

Yelp
I moved to Alexan Webster five months ago, and I'm so happy I chose to live here. I've lived in dumpy old apartments most of my life, so it's been such a pleasure living in a new and nice complex. The staff here is excellent-all of the ladies in the leasing office are friendly and helpful, and the garage and maintenance workers are also amiable. The one time I had an issue with something someone came the next day to fix it, which was a bit of a surprise. When they say hot quality, they're right-when friends come to visit they say it feels like we're at a high end hotel! I looked at three apartment complexes in the immediate area, and a couple in Berkeley; Alexan Webster stood out from the others for me, and I'm glad I moved here.

Chris S.

Yelp
I have to agree with the previous reviewer. This place is amazing and slightly more affordable than other new constructions in the area. The HUGE pool, massive jacuzzi and commuter bikes you can checkout are amazing amenities. I love the new stainless applicances and W/D in every apartment. The apt layouts, proximity to the train the lake and many bars and restaurants are the reason we chose Alexan Webster to be our new home. The area is about to seriously pop off. Oakland's diversity and culture and creative energy are underappreciated. It should also be noted that Rafael and Jasmine are amazing people and always eager to help things run smoothly. Thank you all for making my move an amazing move. It was worth the three extra months we waited just so we could move here. I think for the money Alexan Webster is the best youll find in the bay area right now.

Albert K.

Yelp
Althea and Jasmine have been wonderful during our stay. Jasmine is one of the most hard working property managers. Always go him above and beyond for her residents along with Althea who is super attentive and always greets with a smile no matter the day. These two make any community that much better to be a part of.

Yelp
Very pleased with Alexan Webster so far! Moved in a couple days ago and my unit was clean and everything is working properly. Rafael & Jasmine in the leasing office have been very helpful, responsive to questions, and accommodating throughout the entire leasing to move in process. We even got 6 weeks free of rent as a move in special! The units are modern and sleek, wit higher ceilings than most buildings nearby. The parking garage is very secure, pool and gym are nice, there's great natural light in the units, and the location is very walkable and close to lots of restaurants, bars, whole foods, lake merritt, and the train. 10/10 would recommend!

J L.

Yelp
There are plenty of new construction apartments nearby that offer similar amenities/floor plans but the management and policies here are subpar for the rent being charged. I don't think this is a bad place to live, but it is overpriced for the experience. Pros - new apartments, modern finishes, good amenities, near transportation/restaurants, pet friendly. The building also had a good initial response/plan to COVID19. Cons - 1. You can hear your upstairs neighbors even if they're just walking around. We talked to our upstairs neighbors and they had carpet everywhere so it is likely the building has poor sound insulation. 2. Front office seems understaffed - you have to follow up several times. Maintenance requests are also ignored - we had a pending maintenance request that wasn't responded to for almost half a year and another one that was completely forgotten about. There were also frequent issues with paying rent where the portal was down, the portal was slow to reflect your balance, autopay didn't not work, etc. 3. Front office isn't empowered to make common sense decisions - the building is owned by a large company and management has no flexibility to make reasonable accommodations. We were right next to an elevator but for move-ins/move-outs, we had use an elevator that is on the other side of the building because the building didn't bother to purchase elevator pads for all the elevators (cheap decision for a 'luxury' complex). We felt so bad for our movers having to carry stuff across the entire complex when there was an elevator right there. 4. There is no bulk trash pick up - only trash compactors. We had never lived in a building that didn't have a bulk trash area and it is inconvenient as you cannot throw away anything that doesn't fit inside a 13 gal trash bag. 5. Mail confusion - mail can be delivered to 3 different places, you must check multiple spots to locate a package. Packages are also at risk of being stolen, with one of the 3 package locations right by the front door. 6. Fire alarms are extremely sensitive - both when cooking and when the downstairs garage is being power washed. It can be stressful if you have pets to have the alarm go off so often. 7. Parking garage was constantly broken/under repair 8. Expect to be nickel and dimed for everything during your move-out walk through. We paid for professional cleaners to come in and we were told we would be charged an estimated 2-4 additional hours of cleaning, with a fingerprint smudge on the microwave being pointed to as a sign of dirt.

Yelp
We moved into Alexan Webster last October, and are very happy we did! Before signing, we'd checked out a few different apartment complexes, and a large reason we went with Alexan were the good vibes we got from the staff. Since moving in, everyone from the front office to the maintenance staff have been very friendly, helpful, and responsive. The building itself is well maintained and clean, including the parking garage -- honestly, even the area around the dumpsters is kept neat. As for our apartment: we love it! It was practically pristine when we moved in. It's super well insulated from the outside temperature too, so we're not often running the heat or the AC. Lastly, it's in a great location. There's a number of good restaurants and bars within just a few blocks, and the lake is a very short walk away too. Overall a very cozy and friendly place to live!

Yelp
We had a terrible time at Alexan Webster. We had to move out after about 6 weeks because the noise from the nearby AU lounge was so loud on the weekends no one in my family could sleep. We complained to management, to the City of Oakland, and we called the police non-emergency number but nothing helped. We ended up spending a lot of money on hotels during the weekends just so we could sleep. Management was very nice, and the building was beautiful. We wish this would have worked out.

Yelp
I have been a resident for about six months. I've had all good interactions with the staff. They are friendly and always willing to help. Althea from the leasing office is great! She gave me a tour. I loved her energy and enthusiasm. She was very courteous and professional. She was one of the reasons why I picked this place. I really enjoy living here. The building is clean and very well maintained. My unit is spacious and has lots of natural light. The amenities are wonderful. The fitness center is well equipped. I love the location. Everything is within walking distance (Target, CVS, Whole Foods, Sprouts Farmers Market, numerous restaurants, etc.) It's about a ten-minute walk to the train station and a five minute walk to Lake Merritt.

Yelp
I really hate to do this, but it feels like this is my last resort at getting better customer service from this building's management. The so called outdoor fitness center has been open for a few months now and it feels like they do nothing but put obstacles in the way of you using the equipment. They started out by sending a notice that it was open and saying that you could go downstairs and request a time or email them with a request, but when we tried to do it in person they said we would have to send an email a day in advance, and did not allow me to use the equipment that day and there was NO ONE out there using the equipment for the time I requested it. I would totally understand if there were a lot of reservations, but there is hardly anyone out there working out. I know because I can see the pool area from my window and balcony and there are maybe 2-3 people per day using the cardio equipment (this is all they have by the way). I gave up on using the cardio equipment after this incident. Then they changed the process to signing up online when they opened up the pool. On my first try using the system, it didn't work and I emailed them to let them know it was not working but that I would still like to use the pool and they didn't respond for 2 days. As a resident, I would like to reserve a spot for the same day with advance notice, and when asked why I am not able to do it, they said it's because they have to plan out a day in advance who they are going to let up. What kind of reason is that? It takes at MOST 5 minutes to let people up to use the equipment. They are not accommodating at all. Also, we've had issues with the parking set up because they were not assigning cars to spots based on size. We ended up with an SUV in a compact spot when there are plenty of small cars in the parking lot in regular spots, and they wouldn't do anything about it when brought up to their attention.

Yelp
About a month in, still troubleshooting some features of the apartment. It's become apparent that their building inspection upon completion is not as thorough as it should be. The front call box also currently doesn't work. Be aware that your new apartment will need to get some kinks worked out. Thankfully, the front office is still responsive and friendly.
