London’s New Restaurant Openings

"It feels like the people opening Alfonsina, a Farringdon restaurant named after a beach in Buenos Aires, in January, have a good sense of humour. The Latin American restaurant will serve steaks cooked over a Josper charcoal grill, ‘cebiche clásico’ with white flat fish and sweet potato, and Argentine-style pasta dishes like sorrentinos." - team infatuation

Alfonsina - Review - Farringdon - London - The Infatuation

We haven't heard about this place before, just stumbled into it by chance on a Saturday evening. Fortunately, there were tables available. We were thoroughly impressed. We were warmly greeted when we got there, as though we were regulars. Throughout the evening, service was attentive and fast. Moreover, the food arrived quickly but at a relaxed pace, never making us feel rushed. The food itself was great, with everything cooked just right and well seasoned (with one exception). We ordered the Empanadas (carne), Tacos Baja, and the Chicken Takicuchos. The chicken was well seasoned and tender, the fish in the tacos was flakey and the breading was light and crispy, and the tortillas themselves flavorful. The empanada dough was nice and flaky, with the filling slightly picant, as advertised. For the mains we got the grilled squid (one of the day's special), which was well charred and perfectly cooked, with a very flavorful sauce. The jalea real, again, with the fish well cooked and seasoned. We also got the Chipa Guazu as a size, which was the only dish they didn't get right, as it was too salty. This was one of the best Latin American restaurants we've been to in London. We'll definitely be going there again.

Wow! That was honestly one of the best Steaks I've ever had. Not ONLY that though... the whole experience was excellent from start to finish. The decor is warm, authentic and chic. The welcome and attention from all the staff was genuine, heartfelt and detailed. The Empanada starter made me just want to eat that all evening. (Ricardo, the owner and Chef, later told me that it is a recipe from his family that has been completely unchanged and unaltered....I can see why!) The Wine was sumptuous (and reasonably priced I might add). The whole experience left me with no doubt that I will be back at my soonest opportunity. This place is a real find! (Ps. I came here to impress a very important client. It worked. Next time though.....I plan to bring my Wife. This restaurant also has date night credentials)

Absolutely fantastic experience at this relatively new Argentinian restaurant. We love our Latin American food and we’re not disappointed by the range an offer and the quality of what we ate. Also a fantastic wine selection and the service was brilliant. I wish we were local because we’d be coming back much more frequently, but we will definitely return and I would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves South American food.

Delicious Latin American food and a great selection of wines. The team were very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us some great recommendations - you must try the yakicuchos! Will definitely be back!

Unexpected find on a Friday night near Smithfield market! Great fusion food by an Argentine chef combining South American flavours with global cuisines. Good wine selection (Malbec and carmeniere - obvs!). Good value as well - definitely recommend and must go back to try more of the menu.

Everything is simply great. We started off with fish dishes like ceviches, prawncuchos and baja tacos. Then we had an amazing ribeye steak, and corn leek tamals. We finished off with quince buttermilk millefouilles. TLDR; Taco shells are a sensitive topic to me. I love it when I can smell the corn/masa harina. Very generous amount of avocado within tacos. I loved it. Also, the ceviche is top of the notch. We had the clasico one, with beautiful tigre de leche and who would've known sweet potatoes would be a good companion to ceviche. I really liked it. And, for the meatlovers, ribeye imo is the best form of steak with its beautiful marble texture... You can taste this wonderful chargrill flavor and chimicurri is probably one of the freshest Ive had. The staff is also very friendly. We had a delightful conversiation with Rosie.
