After going to Alfonso Burritos in Duncanville, he told me about his dad's spot in Abilene. This place was just as good and Burritos were delicious! Staff wasn't that talkative when trying to bring up the son so I was like...okay lol...but good overall, would definitely come back!

This was our first time dining here. We had visited once before for pan dulce, but the selection was so minimal that we ended up going elsewhere. Today, we decided to eat in. I ordered the chilaquiles plate, which was very good! Unfortunately, my partner's barbacoa plate was disappointing, it was about 80% fat and 20% meat. The tables and floors were also quite dirty, which took away from the overall experience. On a positive note, the girl at the cash register was very friendly and welcoming. That said, we probably won’t be returning.

Recently went in for burritos. Mind you , I’m pregnant and was sooo craving the barbacoa burritos and a bean an bacon. That’s literally all i ordered. Two barbacoa and one bacon and bean. Upon receiving my burritos I realized they only gave me one barbacoa and an egg and cheese burrito. No big deal right? Went back and politely told them my order and waited about 5 minutes. They came back to drive thru window handed me my food I drove off and again looked in the bag to see I still had egg and cheese and barbacoa. Irritated at this point I go back and I’m like I specifically asked for two barbacoa and ONE bacon and bean! The lady behind the counter looked annoyed by my request and in Spanish the cashier was telling her bean and bacon only no egg just bean and bacon . Lady rolling the burritos looked super annoyed . Grabbed my food and left. I get home and my barbacoa burritos barely have any meat and consisted of mainly fat and my tortilla was absolutely saturated in oil to the point I couldn’t even eat it. And I guess burrito lady wanted to be petty as she barely smeared any bean in my burrito and put mostly burnt bacon. I cried for a good 20 minutes . All I wanted to do was enjoy some good burritos. I will never return to Alfonso Hernandez bakery ever again. I know the line is long at la popular in south 1st and sayles but it’s definitely worth the wait :) burritos are clean not oily at all and delicious 🤤 do better Alfonso Hernandez and teach your employees some respect and how to take constructive criticism with out getting mad because they made a mistake .

Great burritos! Good salsa. They aren't stingy with their meat. Try the salsa Verde or Chile Verde.

My husband picked up a dozen and a half Tamales this morning. I've been wanting some and haven't found anyone selling them for a while now. So I was super excited to have them. WORST Tamales I've ever tasted! If you like salty food, these are #1. They are so salty, the salt must have fallen in while being measured. (Hopefully it was an accident. ) Now if you can swallow the extremely salty tamale, you wouldn't even know you're eating a tamale unless you're looking at it. They had such an overpowered taste of smokey burnt food. I could even taste the mask. Even as I sit here writing this review, the smell of something burned is lingering in the air. So dry, salty and burnt. Definitely overpriced, especially for terrible food. Oh, and the hot sauce was just as bad. Disappointed customer.

Google
Went there a little after 2 because everywhere else was closed while waiting to get my food and older man instead of even bothering to use the tongs was grabbing concha’s with his bare hands and that’s gross the bakery items didn’t seem fresh either, got my food and when I got home the food was drenched with grease it was unbearable that there was no flavor in the barbacoa especially the carne guisada was very disappointing then when it was time to put hot sauce on food it was spoiled that just made things worse I will not be going back ever,

Google
I went here looking for bread and was disappointed that they have less bread than a convenience store. Their bakery is just a small display with three trays that have about 10 biscuits per tray. This is no bakery. This is a I joke of a bakery. Don't waste your time driving here.

Google
I have never had problems .I like their potato n egg burritos. They put more potatoes which is good. Popular puts more egg than potatoes in the burritos. But I have to say that Abilene sure needs a Panederia bcuz it's frustrating that there's no pan dulce Mexicano store here. You have to be going to different restaurants to get pan dulce and most of the time there out of pan dulce. Come on people there should be a Pan Dulce store with nothing but Pan Dulce Mexicano. They would make good business if someone would open a pan dulce Mexicano store here in Abilene. I hope in the future someone can open a store full of Pan Dulce Mexicano Store. 😋

Yelp
The Hernandez Bakery is a staple! It doesn't look like much on the outside but the inside is very large with lots of room to eat by yourself or with a group. The food is amazing. I have yet to try something I don't like. They actually sell pan dulce that I found out the owner bakes himself! He or his son are always around and always make their rounds to check on guests and ask if they need anything. The service is fast, the staff is friendly, the food is great, and it's affordable! It truly doesn't get any better.

Yelp
Finally giving Hernandez Bakery a try since they are open on Sundays! Decent breakfast burritos with a good tortilla, but not my favorite spot in town. Happy they had a drive thru, but the speaker with the menu in the drive thru doesn't seem to be working. Ordered at the window instead! $7.86 for two breakfast burritos! I'd say that two burritos is a serving size rather than one. Comes with red sauce on the side. Tried the bacon, potato, and egg & the sausage and egg burritos! Eggs are cooked "harder" here, so the burritos feel a bit dry if that makes sense. It was alright, but didn't really impress. Probably won't be back, but I was happy with the meal.

Yelp
We came at 9am on a Sunday. Our order was taken right away by two very underaged girls lol. The wait for the food wasn't long, maybe 10-12 minutes. I ordered a small menudo. and it was really good! Loaded with tripe and hominy. I had to request cilantro, but they accommodated. My only hesitation on giving 5 stars is the sit down experience. Customer after customer came coming in with complaints of wrong burrito orders or missing burritos, which happens. But the lady in the kitchen was hollering at the customers from the back. She actually hollered at the young girls in the front that she had made a customer's burritos, while he was standing in the restaurant. He had to say he was standing right there still.. awkward.

Yelp
If I was my father reviewing this business they might get a solid 5 star. But I'm not my dad. He goes on a constant basis and enjoys Them all the time!! Anyhow. When I am the one enjoying this business, it's because my father went and brought it home. He handles the service, the counter the people and the wait. So I can't review and base an opinion on those particular parts of a review. But on my experience on the egg and cheese burrito. Solid five stars.

Yelp
I ordered menudo for delivery. When I received my order the whole thing was spilled out of the container and in the bag. When I poured the bag into a bowl to try to salvage it, there was so much skin and bones in the menudo I couldn't even eat it. 0/10.

Leah H.

Yelp
I ordered 3 burritos and on all 3 of them the meat was very dry and tough like it had been sitting out all day and my tortillas were soaked in grease. Very disappointing....

Yelp
I ordered 2 egg and sausage burritos. The food tasted wonderful. The hot sauce was good as well. My only complaint is that the burritos kept falling apart every time I would lay them down. I will probably give them another try in the future.

Yelp
My favorite huevos rancheros I'm town. And, IT'S LOCAL! Good burritos. My 5-year old loves the lemonade. Mix it with some Topo Chico for an awesome bubbly/lemony/sugary treat.
google avatar

David E.

Yelp
This was not Mexican food, when selling menudo make sure it comes with bread, tripp not fully cooked, tortillas are not home made. This is more like texmex food. Tamales with no seasoning so they tasted bad. The soup from the menudo was good thou, also make sure your pigs feet are clean with no hairs. We are travelers so no need to come back to this place.

Yelp
Still looking for that 6 am burrito, Brenda C. likes this place. The usual chorizo and egg was my burrito of choice this morning. It was quite good as was the hot sauce. But overall, just like the other places. They do have the bakery case with lots of sweets if your looking for a morning sugar rush! You know, I do have a favorite burrito place, but their not open at 6 am. Would late to work just once a week be ok so I can have my burrito fix? Probably not, so the 6 am search continues!

Kaylin F.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars I would. I ordered 7 burritos somehow I only got 3 and instead of making the order I waited 25 minutes for. Instead of making the order right the manager screamed I didn't want it anymore and gave me a refund smh 10/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

Yelp
Best in town. Any other burrito stop is sub par. The others may rate higher because of more reviews. But Abilenians choose Alfonso Hernandez.

Yelp
My food was fantastic! I ordered the breakfast burritos and they were delicious. Homemade tortillas and salsa. I will be a loyal customer from now on!

Yelp
I just went through the drive-thru this morning and got my usual bean and cheese burrito. The service was quick as usual and the burrito was very good as usual. I got overzealous with the hot sauce, which, by the way, is awesome...and spilled a little right in my lap. It was then I realized they didn't give me a napkin. Other than the missing napkin, all was great!!!...as usual!

Yelp
i love good tex mex food but since alfonsos hooked up with bites and the one before that delivers there food. well it has turned to slop not like it was since i remember the only thing that has gone up is there prices 3.50 for egg and chorizo come on crazy thats just one example. and the other tex mex restraunts have also followed suit for there prices go get a steak or chicken fried dinner. in my opinion bites and the other delivery co. before created greedy restraunts and cheap food.

Yelp
Best burritos in town! The meat was tasty and very tender and the gravy was delicious. Overall it seemed clean. The girl behind the counter was very friendly and handed me my food with a smile. The price was great. I doubt you find better food anywhere in town for that kind of money. I was impressed with the whole place. Definitely going to go back often.

Yelp
Place is great, love the breakfast and reasonably priced! easy ordering and good service!!

Yelp
Burritos are 1.75 and there are not too bad. A lot of people order to go but you can also dine in. However, drink selection is a bit confusing. 1.75 for large drink with $1.00 refills and soda is from a vending machine. The Mexican pastries are nothing to brag about but its nice that its there and it'll do the job.

Yelp
Quick and friendly service. Prices are unbelievably great. We ordered three types of carne asada burritos and none disappointed. The homemade tortillas are heaven. We will have to come back for empanadas. Only suggestion is to have more heat in the hot sauce.
google avatar

Jaime F.

Yelp
Of all the Mexican restaurants in town, my wife and I rate this our number 1 pick. From burritos, gorditas, and menudo, to sweet empanadas, pan de dulce and horchata. Staff is friendly, prices are fair, food is good and authentic. I gave it 4 stars because staff is very limited and service can be slow at times.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped for lunch and were profoundly disappointed. I had nachos, which were just bagged commercial chips with unseasoned hamburger, commercial cheese sauce, lettuce, tomatoes and very little flavor. My wife had enchilladas, which were equally tasteless and commercial.

Unani M.

Yelp
Really... $1.00 small coffee... N no cream n sugar.no napkins wtf. Only sweet n low no sugar... Don't go there...picked up rocks smarter then drive up window teller... Idiot

Yelp
Go ahead, get the carne con chile, it hurts sooo good!!!The guisada is also great if you aren't one for delicious food pain at 6:30am. #1 breakfast spot in Abilene for me!

Danny R.

Yelp
Big disappointment, ordered tamales and they were tasteless. The maza was still gooey (undercooked). My brother ordered the beef enchiladas also no taste basically ground beef wrapped in a corn tortilla.

Ron M.

Yelp
Still Great! Took my son in for Huevos Rancheros yesterday and they were just as good as always. Real fried potato chunks. And thick cut bacon. Always very good.

David L.

Yelp
If you like eating mexican food in a gas station restroom, the this is the place for you. The establishment is the chit and so is the boney as menudo. If you imagine spooning a dead person.
