Alfredo Alla Scrofa - Review - Campo Marzio - Rome - The Infatuation

"You’ve undoubtedly heard of, and probably even tasted, fettuccine Alfredo. Chances are, the version you’ve tried was loaded with cream, which is far from the original recipe that was invented in Rome. Since 1914, Alfredo Alla Scrofa has been serving fettuccine con burro e parmigiano—fresh pasta with butter and parmesan—to Romans and celebrities alike." - Annie Replogle

This Time Tomorrow Florence Review | Hotels Above Par

"Right on the doorstep of the apartment, Ristorante Alfredo plates up typical trattoria fare; locals eat here for the run-of-the-day menu and to gripe about their days with the no-nonsense staff who serve as much drama as taste."

Google
This is a "must visit" for anyone visiting this amazing city .... the home of "Alfredo". Really good menu with plenty to choose from. The Classic pasta Alfredo is really enjoyable if you like creamy, cheesy flavours. I'd highly recommend that you order the Truffle, it's very expensive but it totally finishes off this once in a lifetime visit. Service was good but the restaurant is so busy that service comes down to a personal level, its still good though. Big queue outside so make sure you book in advance.

Alfredo alla Scrofa is a legendary Roman restaurant and absolutely worth a visit. This is the birthplace of the original Fettuccine Alfredo, and tasting it here feels like experiencing a piece of culinary history. The pasta is rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced – simple yet unforgettable. The restaurant itself has a charming and elegant atmosphere, with walls filled with photos of famous guests who have dined here over the decades. It feels like stepping into both a dining room and a museum of Roman culture. Service was attentive and professional, with staff eager to explain the history behind the dish and make the evening special. The wine selection complemented the meal perfectly, and the desserts were equally delightful. Yes, it’s a bit more expensive than a casual trattoria, but the experience is unique and iconic. For anyone visiting Rome, Alfredo alla Scrofa is not just a meal – it’s a tradition and a memory you’ll take with you.

Famous and absolutely worth the hype! A reservation is recommended. Their reputation is 100% justified. This is not a tourist trap, the quality is genuinely excellent. If it's your first time, you must try their original Alfredo. The pasta is incredibly thin, and the sauce is so perfectly balanced, that they both melt in your mouth. They also have black and white truffles as an additional, which go very well with their Alfredo! Order a nice Chardonnay with it, and I promise YOU WILL LEAVE VERY HAPPY!!!

Ate here for lunch on Friday. I had a reservation and my party and I was seated promptly. Our waiter was not very nice nor personable. I figured it was just the culture as it was my first time in Italy. We ordered the famous Fettuccine Alfredo as did the other two tables in the room with us. Every table besides ours got the history of how the Alfredo was created besides our table. The waiter was rude when I asked if I could have butter with the basket of bread. Also my Aunt never received her drink she ordered and they never came back to check to see if we needed anything. We flagged down the waiter and asked for the check in which the waited asked us for a tip. The Alfredo was ok but I just wished we had a better experience.

Google
I was honestly skeptical about Alfredo alla Scrofa due to all the social media hype, but it definitely lived up to its reputation. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the service was attentive and friendly throughout our meal. We tried the original Fettuccine Alfredo a dish we don’t usually go for, but it surprised us with how light, creamy, and full of flavor it was. A true classic done right. The lasagna* was good, though not the highlight, while the arrabbiata spaghetti was bold, well balanced and absolutely delicious. Overall, a nice experience and worth a visit, especially if you’re curious to try the famous fettuccine where it all began.

Google
We were sat right away even though we did not have a reservation. But making a reservation is recommended. The food portion were more than enough for us. The food was really good, however the Fettuccini Alfredo was not the most delicious dish on our table. The service was ok, however there is a mandatory 10% of the total bill service fee. Also a surprise charge of 5 euros per person’s for the cutlery.

Google
We had dinner here on our first evening in Rome. We were lucky to get a table without a booking, but I strongly recommend reserving in advance, when we left, the line outside was very long. The service was very kind and attentive throughout. Drinks were excellent (Aperol Spritz, Hugo Spritz, and an Old Fashioned , all really well made). Food was tasty and flavorful; we tried from each other’s plates and were all satisfied. It’s not the “authentic homemade Italian” type of restaurant, but it doesn’t pretend to be either. Prices are moderate to considering the history, the name, and the atmosphere, center location, it felt acceptable. I read some reviews calling it a tourist trap, but honestly, if you know what to expect, it’s worth it. Classic ambience, good food, great service. All in all, I can recommend it for what it is – especially if you want to experience the famous Alfredo name in Rome.

Google
I made a reservation to try the infamous Original Alfredo. I'm glad we did, reservations are definitely recommended. We did the set Alfredo menu, which I know makes it easier for the kitchen to prep so it's a good system. The server set up a little station in front of us, for a couple of the tables, that they were mixing the sauce together and handing right to us. The food was good, I could have eaten more, so don't expect a big full meal when choosing this option. The tiramisu dessert was also a small size. Staff were friendly, everyone was working well together like a well oiled machine. I don't need to go again but I'm glad we tried it out.

Yelp
We ordered seabass, fettuccine Alfredo, and grilled vegetables with a bottle of red wine. The fettuccine was great with the truffle shavings! They also prepared the fettuccine with cheese table side, which made for a nice visual treat. I enjoyed their fettuccine as it was very thin and the truffle shavings really took it up a notch! I would highly recommend having it with the truffles! I personally really enjoyed their sea bass! It also came with a crisp skin left on top of the seabass, which gave it more of a crunch to better complement the seabass itself! Wonderful dish! Service was very attentive throughout the whole evening! The noise level was moderate depending on the number of tables seated during your meal. It was a full house while I was there so conversations were a little difficult at times. They also have walls of photos of famous people that have dined at their restaurant. Certainly a nice conversation starter while you wait for your meal to arrive.

Yelp
Probably the best mozzarella i've ever had in my life, however i added olive oil, vinegar, and salt for extra flavor. Then there's the famous fettuccini alfredo. The story goes, over a 100 years ago, a chef named Alfredo had a wife who was giving birth. She had a difficult delivery and was very sick afterwards. She told her husband she couldnt eat anything, and asked him to prepare a dish that she might be able to have without getting sick. And so the most famous pasta dish was born. Its Very different from what the rest of the world considers fettuccini alfredo. In the original recipe, There is no sauce. Its just butter & parmesan. Very plain. At some point in history, some chef decided to add a little sauce, and thats the dish everyone is familiar with. This one is still tasty but a bit dry and basic.

Yelp
I stumbled across Alfredo alla Scrofa on my first visit to Rome 11 years ago. I remember the tableside Fettuccine Alfredo preparation being amazing. I remember the waiter preparing my Alfredo tableside using a lot of butter and other ingredients and mixing it all in front of me. The performance was memorable. Enough so that I desired to return here with my family to share in this experience. We came this time with a group of four. We all ordered the legendary Fettuccine Alfredo and this time the waiter preparing our Alfredo simply added cheese and pasta water to the pasta and mixed it up and served it. Disappointing. This would have been a 5 star review but I downgraded Alfredo alla Scrofa to 3 stars due to their shortening and cheapening that experience and the value you get for the price paid. Also in the value paid consideration is the actual price paid for your meal. This place is fairly pricey for just pasta in Rome. At 25 Euro per person for this dish with not even complimentary bread included, it makes for a bad deal. Was the Alfredo good? Yes. Even better than most I've tried but not 25 Euro worth. The bread - most places provide complimentary bread like a Mexican restaurant provides complimentary chips and salsa. Not here. You have to pay 4 Euro for bread. And you only get 4 pieces! What?!!! That is 1 Euro per piece. We chose "Roman Pizza" bread and it was simply Focaccia bread and not even large pieces. Ripoff! We also shared a tiramisu for dessert and had a bottle of white wine with our dinner. The meal was good and the restaurant well appointed and staffed. It's just not worth the hype and the price in Rome.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food and loved the ambiance, but like others, found the prices to be a little high for what you get. We tried to tableside Alfredo and the meatball appetizer and thought everything was delicious. The Alfredo is really worth the try, even if you find it to be a bit pricey. It was one of the best bites of food I had in Rome. I recommend it.

Yelp
Some of the best Fettuccine Alfredo I've ever had. We started with the Deep Fried Meatballs with Green Sauce and although I know they're very good they weren't my favorite. I did love the Seabass Mugnaia it was in a buttery sauce with carrots- try it! Finished with the Pavlova that was yummy! Service was just ok (our waiter mixed up courses not bringing them in the order I wanted yet telling me this is how most people like it ). The ambiance is festive - tables are close together and it is lively day and night.

Yelp
One of the best dining experiences we had in Rome! The original Fettuccine Alfredo is made right at your table, and it's just as rich and delicious as you'd expect simple ingredients, expertly done. The restaurant is full of charm and history, with a classic vibe and excellent service. Pro tip: reserve a table online in advance. It gets busy, and you don't want to miss out on this iconic Roman dish in the place it was born. Perfect for anyone who loves food with a story.

Yelp
We enjoyed our lunch here. Food was yummy. Service was great and so kind. Allowed us to purchase a bottle of their water even though they don't sell them. Ambiance was lovely. Lighting was just right. Dont prefer the dark restaurants.

Yelp
This place was excellent. We were seated right away as we head reservations. Service was excellent and the food was to die for. Of course we had the fettuccine Alfredo, chicken cacciatore, and the meatballs. Paired with an excellent wine that the server assisted us with.
google avatar

Yelp
Went here based on a recommendation from a friend. Also, alfredo is my go-to pasta so of course I had to try it from the restaurant where it originated! That said, for the price- the servings are VERY small. You can go literally anywhere else in Rome and feed two people for the price of one dish here. The meatballs were... unique. It was in a green pesto style sauce, though still tasty, not my favorite. The alfredo, while delicious, wasn't as good as the alfredo I can get at home in Vegas from Prosecco where Daniel makes it IN THE CHEESE WHEEL! Would I recommend this? Maybe for the nostalgia of saying you ate where alfredo was invented- but otherwise, sadly, no.

Yelp
The fettuccine Alfredo was great and the outdoor seating was quite pretty, and I loved hearing about the origin of the dish. My one complaint with this place was that the original waiter we had audibly sighed when I ordered it, and continued to act annoyed throughout the interaction. The other servers were fairly nice, but certainly not exemplary service for the prices we paid.
google avatar

Yelp
We were really unsure if we were going to make the reservation for this restaurant because it was definitely on the pricey end and the lines are always long. While I think it was a delicious experience and tasted unlike any other Alfredo I've had, it wasn't the best thing I had in Italy so I would have been okay to skip it. Because of popularity there were tons of tables very close to each other and the service was slow. The story of the sauce is that Alfredo's wife was pregnant and couldn't stomach anything bedsides buttered noodles. Alfredo sauce was born and we got to experience it in its true form, rather than filled with heavy cream and other unnecessary ingredients that are usually in American Alfredo. They make it table side and the true star was the pasta it self. The pasta was thin and easily soaked up the sauce, resulting in a a melt in your mouth buttery, cheesy experience. Overall, the pasta was great but there is so much to see in Italy that I probably wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Nice street side seating or inside. Service was a team and excellent. The food was great. Had to get pasta. We are staying right across the street and will be back often.

Yelp
This place definitely knows how to make Alfredo. I will forever not be able to have Alfredo anywhere that compares. Staff were great. The restaurant is so cute, brings you back to the very beginning with old photos on the walls and newer ones of who has frequented the restaurant. This place is a must for anyone visiting Rome.

Yelp
Alfredo all Scrofa....the birthplace of fettucine alfredo! Me and my wife visited this restaurant during our honeymoon last month. We had made a reservation, as this place is ALWAYS busy. Highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. There is a walk-up line, but I overheard some people saying they had been waiting for over an hour. To drink, me and my wife shared a bottle of wine, which was recommended by our server. It was pretty good honestly. As for food, we each got a main dish and shared an appetizer, (we ended up sharing everything anyways.) To start, we got the Tuna Carpaccio. It was SO GOOD. Every bite was flavorful. It may in fact be the best tuna carpaccio I have ever had. For the main dishes, I got the Fettucine Alfredo and my wife got the Risotto. The risotto was pretty good, my wife loves risotto, so she knew she wanted to get this. As for the main event, the fettucine alfredo...I was a little bit disappointed. I wasn't too impressed with how it tasted. The server came to our table and mixed the cheese and the pasta and did this whole presentation, which was nice, but the overall taste just wasn't that good. It tasted very chalky, and the pasta was way too soft, not al dente where it has that nice bite to it. I was very displeased with this dish. For this place being the birth place of fettucine alfredo, you'd expect it to taste way better. Regardless, we HAD to get it, as this is what the restaurant is known for. I don't recommend getting this, but if you're going to come here, you have to get it, just so you can see if it's worth it. The restaurant is very bright, which was kind of a buzzkill. The lights were on everywhere, and there wasn't too much of an intimate feel. Our table was super close to the other tables, and there really wasn't any privacy at all. The service was decent, but could've been better. Overall, I was expecting the visit to be better, but it barely met my expectations, I would say that it didn't even meet them at all. I probably wouldn't come back here. If there's anything you take away from this review, it's: #1 Make a reservation ahead of time #2 The fettucine alfredo isn't the best

Yelp
Before leaving for Rome we were told to go to Alfredo's, the originator of Fettuccine Alfredo...then when we got there we were told by two of our tour guides that we really should go...so we did. I'll admit, I don't remember who else had what, but I had the fettuccine Alfredo and I am pretty sure I will never be able to eat it again...it was just so damn good. Seriously, if you want great food, great service, and an all-around great ambiance and experience have dinner here.
google avatar

Yelp
The ambiance and service were great, however the food was subpar. The food was lacking a lot of flavor which was disappointing. I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Great service. Super professional wait staff. Prices were good for the quality. Wine steward was good and not pushy. House wine selection was terrific. Elegant dining room. Their bread was good especially the shortbread like ones are really delicious. Good rich dark green olive oil. We had classic Alfredo and carbonara for pasta and a sea bass dish that was delicious. The Caprese had rich basil and a fantastic mozzarella without toasted bread which we liked. 1st class. I wish more people dressed accordingly to the restaurants elegant vibe. All the staff was well dressed and tight. Highly recommend for a classic historical restaurant with 1st class service and great dining experience
google avatar

Yelp
Listen to the people the waiters are so RUDE and disrespectful!!!!!!! So many reviews in both Google and here mention the service and how they were treated. We were treated like garbage. Dirty plate. Burnt food. Long wait. Not a care in the world. Do NOT go here.
google avatar

Kiran K.

Yelp
Visited this restaurant because I heard so much about it. For being the birthplace of Fettucine Alfredo, food was alright at best compared to other more local, hole-in-the wall spots. There's always a line to get a table here despite how the food is so make reservations beforehand.
google avatar

Yelp
I have to be honest this place was talked up big time by some friends and to me it was just okay. My sister was referred here and it wasn't her favorite either. The burrata was nice, beef tartar just okay. Sea bass was decent but not the best. Hated the fried meatballs and chicken cacciatore. No thank you. We also had a risotto eh. For wine, Amarone was beautiful, Chianti not so much. For the grand finale, the fettuccine Alfredo... it was just okay. I had a better one in Miami and they prepared it in the wheel of cheese. Here not the case as suggested but if you read my reviews... find amazing cacio e pepe and carbonara elsewhere. Don't forget the rigatoni! If you want pasta, try that! It looked good coming out but I can't comment. Presentation was nice, service was average. Tiramisu, not my nephews favorite *and he had like 6 or 7 already, so he's literally a pro! Sorry to be harsh, but had much higher expectations as this was 3-4 times the cost in relation to others around Trevi and Trastevere! Decide for yourself. Friend's recommendations seldom live up to the hype! Ciao Ciao on to the next! Grazie
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely the best noodles I had in Rome. Food was good, best fettuccine I have ever tasted on the world and is a must get. It's super creamy and the noodles are super thin and light. The cheese flavor of amazing. However the good review stops there. Everything else we got was terrible and wasn't fresh. The seafood tasted like it came out of a can and was very smelly. Worst of all was the service. We had a reservation but it took 40 mins to get our menus and we weren't even offered the drink menu. After ordering, our food took another 45 min to arrive and after finishing, we waited another 30 min to finally get the check. We saw several tables around us change 3 times before we finally left. The table next to us commented that the restaurant doesn't really like ethnic groups. So definitely was the best pasta I have ever had, but didn't think it was worth it to deal with the service.
google avatar

Kevin R.

Yelp
Had a reservation and skipped the line. This place is worth the hype. The Alfredo is subtle yet full of flavor. High quality olive oil for dipping. The steak was very tasty and cooked to perfection. It's a nice restaurant, good for a date night or special occasion.

Mary J.

Yelp
Food was so cold! I was really looking forward to this experience but it was not it. Please don't waste your time
google avatar

Lorenzo K.

Yelp
Came here for the history of Fettuccine Alfredo. We came without a reservations during lunch time and didn't have any problem getting seated quickly. We had the Fettuccine Alfredo of course and the Carbonara (my first time trying it). Both were good but we actually liked the Carbonara better. Their champagne that we purchased was also very good. I recommend coming here for the historic Alfredo and enjoy their other tasty foods.
google avatar

Cary B.

Yelp
We went to this restaurant because we had been here 41 years ago on our honeymoon. The food was ok, nothing spectacular and not worth the money or the wait. There are many other not famous restaurants in Rome that are much better. The service was subpar and the hostess was not a pleasant young woman.

Diana B.

Yelp
The pasta is at best disappointing. I've been here twice before years ago and this has become a tourist trap. I came for the Alfredo pasta and I guess my last experience will have to stay with me as this visit was awful. Service is slow, burrata salad was good, pasta was nothing to recommend. I will not come again
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
The original home of Fettuccine Alfredo! The service was incredible very attentive and helpful. Made the Fettuccine at the Table! The atmosphere was beautiful old Italian styling. Looked very high end. The crowds were large because of the quality. The food was fantastic! We got a meatball appetizer ( with mashed potatoes and pickle. Amazing!!then we both got the fettuccine Alfredo and it was so great. Panna cotta for dessert was excellent. Add to the some great red wine and it was an evening to remember.
google avatar

April V.

Yelp
50 stars to the food, the service, and the ambiance. Alfredo alla Scrofa is the birthplace of fettucine alfredo! The dish is made at the table, tossing the fresh fettucine noodles with butter and cheese until it makes the most delicious, rich creamy sauce perfectly coating every noodle. Absolutely outstanding! I loved every bite of my fettucine, and I also had a green salad, which was delightful as well. Service was terrific!
google avatar

Jenna T.

Yelp
This place is a tourist icon. It was everything we hoped based on what we saw on YouTube. Excellent service, even better pasta, good drinks in a fun atmosphere. Be sure to make reservations in advance, otherwise you might be turned away. DEFINITELY get the fresh shaved truffle on your alfredo, it takes it from good to fancy foodie. Don't bother with the steak.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Appetizer of chickpeas, zucchini and burrata was delish. Salad was also great. Fettuccine Alfredo was good but I've had better. I really appreciated the wine list! Great selection to choose from. The service staff was very attentive and quick to fill request. We sat outside across from the main area. It was pleasant and comfortable.
google avatar

Brenna C.

Yelp
For me...you go for the Fettuccine Alfredo (which is outstanding) but we happened to opt for the tasting menu and was a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, if you want to fall into a deep food coma after the dinner and eat a meal filled with fried food, bread and pasta - this is your place. The tasting was just too heavy. Would've loved to see the meat dish not be fried, a vegetable or salad not fried, a dessert of gelato or something fresh. Fettuccine is to die for though! Service was nice.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Alfredo is very famous for inventing fettuccine Alfredo. His namesake pasta design is one of the first things on the menu and will run you €22 as of August 2023. It's delicious! The pasta and sauce are delicate and so very smooth. The other partas on the menu are good and cost €20 or below. Don't enter planning to split something. Staff requires everyone to have a meal on their plate so you can't split the cost of one dish only. Indoor and outdoor seating is available.
google avatar

Celeste P.

Yelp
This by far was the best service we've had in Rome. Wish I would've gotten his name. He told us the story/history behind their famous Alfredo which I enjoyed. The pasta was so delicious. Super thin and tasteful. It's on the pricer side but everything was worth it. There was a line outside as soon as they opened up I suggest you make a reservation to avoid the wait.
google avatar

Patton N.

Yelp
The alfredo origin story was great to hear as part of a gastronomic history and cuisine. I would recommend groups just order one alfredo to share and get other menu items. The alfredo tasted very cheesy as usual. We also got the three tomatoes and burrata pasta which was delicious! The pasta was a perfect Al dente and the noodles were thick, with a light sauce to finish it off. The mixed vegetables were decent; while they were cut up, they could work on the presentation. I've had better in other restaurants around the area.

Yelp
Tips: - make sure you have a reservation - all the Alfredo wines are stellar - get something other than the Alfredo, in addition to it. Alfredo alla Scrofa is apparently where Fettucine Alfredo was invented. Unfortunately it is where it was born, and where it will die. I was very disappointed with the Alfredo, but I understand and respect the birthplace of the dish. Would I come here again? Yes. It is like eating a piece of history. But I must say it has come a long way, and other places do it much better. The Alfredo: - 22 euros, overpriced for just the food - it is prepared table side, where the waiter explains the origin of the dish. He mostly just mixes and portions it for you. Nothing fancy in the preparation. - everyone orders the dish, so I'm sure the waiter has to say the same blurb hundreds of times a month, unenthusiastically and without passion. - noodles were over cooked and it lacked any salt, pepper or any real depth. Really just sauce and noodles. Make sure to get other dishes, you will get tired and feel like you need more protein if you just get the Alfredo. What was great: - Ambiance, aesthetic and service - Wine selection I would come here again with other friends; think of it as a historical experience rather than fine dining. I can get a cacio e pepe for half the price, and much more tasty.

Yelp
So, I've been here each time we come to Roma. This was our third visit. Third is the charm. We were terribly disappointed . We felt so pressured into getting the course dinner by our waiter to the point of feeling pressured and guilted if we missed it. So we gave in. What a terrible choice. The appetizer was only fair. The meatball was shredded meat. Uh . Ok the hi light why we come for the Fettuccine Alfredo. Table side. He made it great served it great. Tasted it ugh pasta mushy overdone and watery that it was fast dripping off the pasta he added to much water as the flavor was lacking it's unbelievable flavor. He noticed as nothing was hardly eaten off our plates. Asking nothing he cleared our plates. Dish two why may I as why would you serve your second course yet another pasta dish oh ok red sauce with meat so crunchy it turned to powder just about. Pasta was much to Al dente compared to the mush of the previous dish. Then an over fried lamb chop with no seasoning no sauce and chicory and dessert 80€. Yes that's right. We can not get over the disappointment. You ask why did we not say anything, we choose not to because the dining room we crowded and did not want to cause a scene as we don't want to cloud others experience. Because Alfredo's is an experience. Well for us it unfortunately was not. I did notice other waiters making the fettuccine perfectly and was zealous. We are coming back to Roma next week but I just don't know. Breaks our hearts.

Yelp
I arrived at this restaurant with my son just a few hours after we had eaten a full course meal at another restaurant. It's our very first day in Rome: However, my son stated he really wanted to try the pasta here. As you know, teenage boys are like a dump truck...they can eat, eat, eat. I decided I would have a cocktail while he enjoyed the pasta. After taking my son's order and my drink order the server told me I had to also order an entree. However, it does not say this anywhere on the menu, website, in front the restaurant, etc. Also, the place has to go orders and does home deliveries, so what was the issue? It's not like I was not going to purchase anything at all. I typically have 2 cocktails in a dining setting which would have easily equaled the cost of a meal. However, I refused to purchase food when I truly was not hungry. The server's whole demeanor changed when I explained that I would not be eating. He could not give me a reason why I had to purchase my own meal. I assured him I wasn't eating from my son's plate either. I was NOT hungry. He was rude, rolled his eyes at me and at that point I calmly told him we would be leaving and I offered to pay for the still water. He said "no it's whatever, rolled his eyes and walked alway:" I am definitely NOT coming back here again. This server needs to learn better customer service. Also, is this how PAYING customers are treated? Or just tourists that look like me? I do NOT recommend this place anyway, way lower reviews than i expected for all the hype.... I'll take my business elsewhere!

Yelp
Delicious pasta, the original fettuccine Alfredo was tender with melt-in-your-mouth noodles. The a/c struggled to keep the very full restaurant cool in the high 90s heat of August in Rome.

Yelp
We made a reservation in advance. I'm an old Hollywood fan and I wanted to visit Alfredo's because there are old celebrity photos all over the place. First impression: this restaurant feels so vintage and has good natural lighting. I ordered fettuccine alfredo, of course. They prep it tableside and I enjoyed watching the process. The pasta is deliciously cheesy. Alfredo's seem to have an good wine list, but this is not my area of expertise. The staff accidentally overcharged us (see my photo). I assumed the charge, which was more than we paid for food and drink, was some fancy Italian restaurant charge. I asked someone I know who has spent significant time in Rome about this and she said that it wasn't right at all. She can write in Italian and she sent Alfredo's an email on our behalf. They responded by email and my friend returned the next day to talk to the staff about it. Our server gave a dramatic reaction and refunded her in cash. I hope it was a mistake and nothing intentional, but I recommend you review your receipt because apparently they enter the service fee manually and that's how they overcharged us so. Note to Alfredo's: A friend has since informed me that the photo display outside of the restaurant doesn't show celebrity patron Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., who came with Mary Pickford and started that long history of celebrity visits, but his son Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. when he was dressed to look like one of his father's characters. Please look into this and amend it the next time you are going to update your sign out front.

Yelp
Don't bother eating here. It's the birth place of fettuccine Alfredo but it's ok. You can find better elsewhere. Waiters are rude and talk to customers in an arrogant and disrespectful way. They will try to add items to the bill without you knowing so if you do end up eating here check it adds up.

Yelp
I had a bad case of food poisoning. Not to enter into detail, but it let me out of combat for the entire day today, after having dinner there last night. I wasn't able go to visiting any sites or eating anything. The whole day in bed at the hotel. I am sure it was the lamb from the tasting menu, as it was the one I had to deal with the whole day. And it wasn't cheap. I do not recommend to anyone.

Yelp
"Where there's smoke there's fire" Having read the mixed reviews we shouldn't have gone but a family friend recommended we go.... So we did for our last dinner out in Rome. We were SO disappointed. The atmosphere was beautiful, the history of the restaurant was charming - and that is where it ended. The food was overpriced compared to other restaurants in Rome and the food wasn't nearly as good. The Alfredo was WAY too cheesy (I agree with another review - only get 1 for the table... one bit will be more than enough). The food was way oversalted so you really didn't experience any unique flavors. Lastly they took our order in the beginning and we basically never saw our wait staff again. Our drinks were empty half way through and stayed that way. Upside - the desserts were great - specifically the Pavlova.

Yelp
Felt obligated to visit this place while in Rome due to it being the birthplace of Fettuccine Alfredo. Though I'll say that I was not all that impressed. The food was okay, but I've had better elsewhere throughout Italy and even in the US.

Yelp
If you're looking for a good Italian meal, look elsewhere. This is the worse cooked pasta we have eaten in Italy. This restaurant is a high price novelty restaurant only.

Yelp
I don't know why this place has such low ratings. The only thing I'd improve is the service because it was a bit slow. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was nice too! We sat outside but inside seating looked nice as well. This place is where Fettuccine Alfredo was born! It's a great place to try out!

Yelp
We didn't make a reservation, we got in line and we were seated in about 20 min. This was our first meal in Rome, so we thought it was really good, until we tried other restaurants. It's also a bit pricey for pasta (IMO)

Yelp
Could you have had better Alfredo elsewhere? Likely, but what fun it is to experience where it started. I recommend to grab a reservation in advance. We were sat right away , staff mean business but were friendly enough. The Alfredo was good but I was impressed with the simple meatballs as the second. The portions are smaller in comparison to other places I've had in Rome, but still pretty filling.

Yelp
overall this place was good. it had good service and food. i was excited for the fettuccine alfredo but since im from usa the alfredo there is different. but it was very different and it is good "italian" alfredo. #1 thing the vegan chocolate cake was very eh. ambiance was good as well.
