Chicago restaurant and bar closures for 2021 - Eater Chicago

"Lincoln Park: Casual counter-service spot Ali Baba Doner is permanently closed with a for-lease sign in the window at 545 W. Diversey Parkway. Fans appreciated the restaurant’s chicken kebab, which some (including Reader critic Mike Sula) felt was best enjoyed as a sandwich with crunchy salad and a soft, warm pita. Local food writer Titus Ruscitti named Ali Baba as one of his favorite restaurant newcomers in 2019." - Naomi Waxman

Ali Baba Donor is a little gem that deserves your attention. This is a smaller establishment that seats only about 8-10 people, but this is a prime example of how size doesn't matter. The food was fantastic, and the owner/host was extremely helpful. They were very conversational and seem to really enjoy serving people amazing food. I would highly recommend this to anyone. One interesting aspect was watching the owners assemble the food. Through the glass panel I watched him meticulously layer each ingredient into the my sandwich; I was entranced. He genuinely wanted the food to look as good as it tasted, and because he put the time into making it presentable - I think it really adds to the experience. I will definitely be coming back. The fries are an absolute must-try; some of the freshest I've had in a very long time. (No photo because I ate them too fast) Fun fact: they speak English, Turkish and German!

Husband and wife team runs this restaurant. Service is very good. Turkish hot tea is complimentary. All the sandwiches were amazing and light, with very fresh ingredients. The sauces were meticulously drizzled to add flavor. French fries is a must. Very clean restaurant. Small seating area with 3 tables that seat 4 people per table. Street metered parking.

Fries are amazing. He recently changed the interior and it looks pretty. It was really clean inside too. The table is more comfortable too. We ordered online and it was very fresh~

This doner place just opened up today, February 20, 2019, and it's on my way home from the brown line so I stopped in for their opening deal (a doner sandwich--chicken with your choice of veggie toppings, traditional yogurt or garlic sauce, and spicy seasoning or feta cheese--and a can of soda for $9). The owners are super friendly and welcoming, and the doner was really tasty! There are a couple couches/benches to eat at inside but I think it will primarily be a takeout spot. Wishing them good luck, especially after all of the relatively recent business closures on this strip!

I cannot stress enough how much EVERYONE needs to try this restaurant. The doner sandwich was made of chicken (with the owners homemade marinade) and so delicious, as well as red and green cabbage, raw onions, lettuce, garlic sauce, tomatoes and a bit of spice. French fries were very good, fresh and not too greasy. The owner is so kind, and made us Turkish Tea, which I had never had before. There is minimal seating, a few couches, but maybe they’ll add in more as time goes on. Good price for the quality. Come support this business! I will definitely be back time and time again.

Stopped by as it was on the Chicago magazine to 10 list. Simple straight forward place. Service great. Sandwich was freshly made. Bread was very tasty. Filling good. The meat reminded me a shawarma bit less sweet. It was a solid sandwich but would have preferred in little more meat.

This place is terrific. The service is superb. Very tasty-like super yummy-food. Try the Turkish tea, with sugar, that accompanies your Doner. And it’s so pristinely clean!!! We will be back for more soon.
