Is Prune Finally Reopening? | Eater NY

"I read that Ali Baba Organic Marketplace at 1 Mott Street, a Chinatown staple since 2010, is closing due to lost business caused by the pandemic; the 24-hour grocery was known for its salad bar and organic produce and was cited for not price gouging during the shutdown." - Melissa McCart

We stumbled across this international grocery store while visiting a restaurant in the strip center. Decided to take a look around and immediately felt like we were in the Middle East. The store is full of exotic ingredients and foods I had not seen anywhere other than the Middle East. We walked off with delicious in store cooked breads, olives, dates and snacks. They also carry Indian groceries. Very friendly staff too. Definitely going back!

I come here for all my cooking oils and random sweets you can't find anywhere else. Plus, they charge by the pound for bell peppers which I appreciate since every other vegetable is sold that way. Anyways, there's always great deals to be had here and if you've got an adventurous palette you'll likely find something new here.

Update 9-11-25: Made the trip to AliBaba's, greatly 😞 disappointed as unable to find one single bag of 3, 5 nor 10lb bags of Jasmine Rice-none in the store! Only 1 1/2 rows of Indian Basmati Rice. We buy Jasmine Rice regularly, no more! Also, Green Jasmine Tea-all gone! They've greatly improved the veg fruit section by expanding the walking area, not so much by introducing any new variety of fresh products. . . This Is a favorite store for purchases of Middle Eastern & Indian foods, spices. Recently (Aug. 2025) they've expanded & remodeled. Fresh fruits & veggies are available, Rices in various kg. weights, middle Eastern cookies, sweetest + multiple Sizes, flavors of Pita Breads. Stop by:)

I like this place, they have almost what I need. I would like to bring back some of the Greek products though. I miss the taste of my country. I love to cook. They have a lot of great food and I recommend it. They are very clean, nice prices and a big variety of international food.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ali Baba Supermarket in San Antonio is a hidden gem! This place has quickly become our go-to for all things Middle Eastern and international. The food variety is absolutely impressive—they have everything from fresh halal meats, spices, and grains to hard-to-find imported products, sweets, and snacks from all over the world. What really stood out to us is how well-organized and clean the store is. The produce section is fresh and well-stocked, the bakery smells amazing, and the hot food area offers delicious ready-to-eat meals that taste homemade. Whether you’re looking for essentials or unique specialty items, Ali Baba has it all under one roof. The staff is helpful, respectful, and always ready to assist with any questions. It’s not just a grocery store—it feels like a cultural experience. We always walk out with more than we planned to buy, and we’re never disappointed! If you live in San Antonio or are just visiting, Ali Baba Supermarket is a must-visit for quality products, wide selection, and a taste of global flavors. Highly recommended! I wish they open a branch in the north side as well.

I recently bought a bottle of şalgam (turnip juice) from this location, and I was really disappointed to find out that the product was expired. The “best before” date on the cap clearly said 06.08.2025, but it’s already October 2025, and the drink tasted off. It’s very concerning that expired products are still on the shelves, especially items like fermented drinks that can easily spoil. I only took a few sips before noticing something wasn’t right. I hope the store management takes this seriously and checks the expiration dates on all similar products. Customers shouldn’t have to worry about food safety when shopping here. This is absolutely unacceptable. Selling expired food is not just careless—it’s dangerous. It shows a complete lack of responsibility and respect toward customers. I expect immediate action to remove outdated products and ensure this doesn’t happen again. Shoppers trust to provide safe, fresh items, not expired ones.

I bought Kara save and got charged $9.99 for 250 g product which I used to bought in Stafford for 4.99. Extremely disappointed with price difference in the same state.
