24 Hours in Rome: What to Eat in Italy’s Capital | Eater

"A 24-hour Syrian kebab shop serving assorted kibbeh and brik followed by lamb or chicken kebabs sliced from vertical spits and wrapped in house-made lavash; a reliable option for late-night sustenance frequented by an eclectic cross-section of night workers, clubbers and chefs under a flickering blue neon sign." - Katie Parla

A few days ago, my friends and I visited Alibaba Restaurant in Rome, renowned for serving some of the most famous kebabs in the city. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. While the outdoor tables were not entirely clean—with some even having pigeon droppings—the indoor area was quite warm, making it less comfortable for dining. I opted to find a cleaner table outside. Alibaba offers a variety of kebabs, including meat, chicken, and mixed options, available in sizes ranging from small to maxi. I ordered the Grande meat kebab and was prompted to customize it with additional ingredients. The quality and quantity of the food were satisfactory, and it's an excellent spot if you have a hearty appetite. The staff was reasonably helpful, and the diverse customer base suggests that the restaurant caters to a wide range of tastes. Overall, I recommend trying this place at least once!

Ali Baba in Rome is one of those places you remember long after the trip is over, especially if you are craving a proper shawerma at any hour of the day or night. Being open 24 hours already puts it in a special category, and it shows in the steady flow of locals and visitors who clearly know exactly where to go when hunger hits late. What really sets this place apart is the way they let you build your shawerma exactly the way you want it. You choose every ingredient yourself, watching it come together fresh right in front of you. I usually keep it traditional. For chicken, I go with toom, that rich garlic sauce, pickles, and if possible just a light hint of french fries inside. For meat, the classic combination is hard to beat: tahini sauce, parsley, onions, and pickled turnips that add the perfect balance of sharpness and texture. The shawerma itself is satisfying and comforting. The meat is juicy, the bread is warm, and everything feels freshly prepared. Flavor wise, it leans slightly on the mild side and could use deeper spices to truly elevate it, but it still delivers a very enjoyable and authentic bite. Where Ali Baba truly shines is the experience and the people. The staff are welcoming, patient, and genuinely kind, even in the late hours. There is a level of hospitality that makes you feel at home rather than rushed. Between the 24 hour availability, the freedom to customize your order, and the warmth of the team, this place earns its reputation. It may not be the most aggressively spiced shawerma you will ever have, but the overall experience makes it absolutely worth coming back to while in Rome.

You know sometimes, the answer to life's problems is very simple - get yourself big honking shawarma. And that's exactly what the good folks at Ali Baba serve, no nonsense, no flash, just a big delicious shawarma. The prices are also excellent. Are you hungry? Are you on a budget? Then come to Ali baba! You won't be disappointed!

Stopped by for a quick bite and was amazed. Didn't expect that food would taste that good. I have a shawarma plate, and all the ingredients were so good. The staff were super friendly with a very fast service. The only thing is they need to pay more attention to tables cleanliness, especially the ones outside. I will be coming back soon for sure.

So many reviews but disappointing place. Saw a lot of youths maybe because the food is cheap. - plenty of birds trying to eat your food if you’re seated outside - meat was not flavourful and disappointing. (Hummus and kunafa was alright) - shisha water was dirty and bottle looked so unclean didnt bother to smoke at all. - staff were not the most friendly.

Good food but always in a rush so picking flavours is a stress but once they gave us sample to taste when there was mo rush.

Great food and very authentic and tasty for this area. Come hungry with an appetite. Between appetizers and main meal guaranteed to take some home with you.

The food was really good (i just love kebab), especially the chicken one. A lot of filling choices. The waiting time isn't that bad considering the taste. Maybe a bit boring if you're alone but if you're have company, then definitely go for it. Tables inside are mostly full but comfortable and wide area outside is better in my opinion. Very good, lives up to the hype.

Yelp
I am just waiting to come back to Rome to come back and eat here! I cannot tell you how amazing the food was!!! The shawarma and bread we got were super delicious and yummy. We also got baklava to go for our hotel and we ate it for breakfast the next day. Amazing. I miss drinking the Fanta drink from here. Will be back one day.

Yelp
Best kebab I've ever had in my life and I'm a complete kebab snob. They take the bread and rub it on the meat so even the bread is full of flavor. Lots and lots of options...not just your standard lettuce, tomato, onion and sauce. My friend and I ate in near silence because it was so good. We ate very well in Rome, but if you need a break from Italian food or Rome is sucking away all your money (and it will), go here. This place was recommended by a Roman friend who really talked it up, and it exceeded expectations.
