My 75 year old mother was talked into purchasing a $325 monthly pool pass for herself and my nieces. Less than an hour later, she tried to cancel for a refund because my nieces were going to be out of town for the rest of the summer, but she was told that they have a no refund policy.
I called and spoke to the pool manager, who just so happened to be the person who sold my mother this pool pass, and she told me my mother was told, before the purchase, that there were no refunds. My mother said she only found out after the purchase when she received a laminated pool pass. Oh, and the pool manager got upset when I asked to speak to another manager and told me she considered our conversation over and hung up on me.
Then the hotel manager calls me after I called her and left a voicemail.
I say "Hello"
She says, "Yes, I'm returning your call" with a short annoyed tone of voice.
I ask who I'm talking to.
She says, "Cat".
I ask, "From Aliante Casino?"
She says, "Yes, how can I help you?" with an exasperated tone.
I then explain the situation and she says that I was told already and she'll tell me again that there are no refunds and basically hangs up on me too.
With no verbal notice and no posted written notice concerning refunds, this should be an incident for which we could file a complaint with a state consumer protection agency, but Nevada apparently does not require businesses to have or post no refund policy information.
Why would a company would not allow same day refunds for a service which was unused? Because they rely on hard sales tactics and know that they would otherwise be refunding a high percentage of their sales.
My mother spends at least $1,000 per month gambling at Aliante Casino and more on food. As a family, we generally purchase pool cabana services, which cost $300+ along with food and drinks 3-5 times each summer. This policy is unethical. This sale and situation was deceitful by the pool manager. My mother won't be gambling at Aliante or any Boyd Gaming properties. We as a family will not be spending money or frequenting any of their properties. If we as consumers choose to spend our money with large corporations, we should do so with corporations with ethical policies and practices. Aliante Casino / Boyd Gaming are not where we should be spending our money.
