I'm deeply disappointed and disturbed by my recent experience at Alice. Our group, which included a close Indian friend, visited for what we thought would be a fun night. We ordered a very simple drink -- a "spaghet" (Miller High Life, Aperol, and sour mix), something easily prepared. One overweight black bartender begrudgingly made it once, then refused to make another without explanation. When we pressed politely for a reason, he simply said "cuz."
Shockingly, we then witnessed the bartender refuse to serve our Indian friend altogether. This behavior felt blatantly discriminatory. Worse yet, when other members of our party tried to order, they were refused service because of their association with him.
For a bar that loudly promotes values of inclusivity and acceptance, treating a guest this way based on race is absolutely unacceptable. I work directly with C-suite executives and hold an MBA -- I understand standards of professional conduct, customer service, and the serious consequences of discrimination.
Alice Cincinnati should reflect seriously on the conduct of its staff and the environment it is creating. Until then, I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone who values dignity, fairness, or respect.
