The reviews saying this is where the locals spend their time?? They're absolutely correct. We were planning to meet a friend who lives in Homer for brunch, and she suggested Alice's - I was a bit skeptical, but hey, what do I know?? Clearly nothing. This is THE BEST breakfast or brunch in town, hands town. We arrive to a slow morning start for the dining room (same, Alice, same) but by the time we left, it was clear this is where everyone stops by before heading out for their day. After ordering mimosas, we decide to simply order the entire left side of the menu and share it all family style. This was an excellent decision, and I like to start my days with mimosas and good decisions.
All 5 plates arrived simultaneously and I was so overwhelmed with tasty goodness, I couldn't decide where to start. The breakfast grilled cheese was perfectly grilled, toasty brown and ENORMOUS - big enough to share and take some home. Stuffed full of bacon, cheese and scrambled eggs, it was my idea of the ideal marriage of breakfast and lunch, better known as my favorite meal: brunch. Next up, we had the belgian waffle topped with homemade custard, fresh berries and whipped cream. Get in on this one early, as the custard is melting to provide the perfect syrup for the crispy, vanilla belgian waffle - this is dessert in breakfast form and I'm here for it. We couldn't pass up a chance to try the traditional scrambled eggs, toast and breakfast potatoes, which were seasoned well with the right amount of savory spice to compliment the fluffy eggs. Being originally from Texas, I was skeptical about their biscuits and sausage gravy but that doubt was quickly put to rest. My mother (also a Texan, in addition to being a good southern mama) liked the sausage gravy so much she raved about it to my grandmother on their Sunday afternoon call. Paired with a fluffy, buttermilk biscuit and that's about as high a compliment as I can share. Top all of this off with an extra side of breakfast sausage adnn crisp bacon, for good measure. We absolutely gorged ourselves and I felt no guilt for it, because food this good deserves it.
I would be remiss to not mention the VERY GOOD sauce (trademark?) that should be used liberally on everything, from the eggs to the breakfast grilled cheese and also the bacon. I asked, but they're not bottling it for retail... YET. In short, don't miss this gem of a spot for brunch - it's the hands down best in town. Cheers!
