This Under-the-Radar U.S. Region Has Surfing, Ancient Redwoods, Mountains, and a Rustic Charm | Vogue

"As you ascend Skyline Boulevard, drivers, motorcyclists, and horseback riders will pull over to fuel up at Alice’s Restaurant. It was built in the early 1900s as a general store for loggers. In the 1950s, a restaurant opened, focusing on stick-to-your-ribs food for weary travellers. By the ’60s, the hippie movement had drifted in and Joan Baez, Hunter S. Thompson, and Neil Young, who lived up the road, were calling themselves regulars. Wines are local and the menu is still hearty: BLTs and burgers are the move. The latter can, of course, be customized with gluten-free buns or Wagyu patties—this is California." - Kate Dingwall

25 Essential Peninsula Restaurants

"Located in a cabin among Redwoods trees, Alice’s Restaurant frequently plays host to motorcyclists, hikers, tourists, and locals. It was first constructed in the 1900s as Four Corners, a general store for logging supplies. Decades later, it was transformed into a restaurant named after both the famous Arlo Guthrie song and a previous owner named Alice. Today, the rustic restaurant remains family-owned and operated. Breakfast and lunch on the weekends get quite busy, with customers who rave about the egg scrambles, sandwiches, specialty burgers, and Texas-style BBQ." - Cathy Park

This has become my absolute favorite restaurant to dine at during rainy/stormy weather. There's just something about outdoor dining surrounded by redwoods while rain pours down around you as you enjoy a meal under shelter with firepits and heaters still keeping you warm. I used to eat here semi regularly when I lived closer, but have since moved. Today our family drove an hour to relive the experience for old times and we were not disappointed. The place had changed a bit from last time we were here. But we still enjoyed our food. My kids ordered some custom things and the staff was very accommodating to everything. Food was made and brought to our table quickly, and they kept checking on us to see if we needed anything. This place is still as good as I remembered and the rain made it all the more enjoyable!

If you’re a car guy/gal, this is the place to be, it’s that simple. The food is simple diner food, nothing crazy but hits all the right spots. The pancakes was amazing. The crowd can be busy but they manage it quite well. Ordering is simple and efficient and food comes out in a little under 10 mins for me. The car scene, that’s what you come here for and it’s very nice. Overall, if you’re in the area, swing by, enjoy the drive up and down. Spot some nice cars and have a good meal.

Google
An absolutely fabulous and beautiful restaurant literally in the middle of the forest (and the middle of nowhere.) The menu is extensive and the food is well prepared and tastes great. All served by possibly the friendliest staff in any food joint. Despite being out of the way and the long drive to get there, this place is worth every mile driven to reach it. Sometimes, the ones who take the road less traveled, are handsomely rewarded.

Google
Casual place, you order outside then are given a buzzer and seat yourself. Most tables are outdoors but there are a lot of heaters so it's not too cold. The staff are very friendly and provided excellent service. Vegan options include burgers (black bean, beyond) and pizza (they have vegan cheese). Could also veganize the salads and add a burger patty. Got the black bean burger which was fine, not house made. Came with a lot of lettuce/onion/tomato. The housemade chips were delicious. Mushroom pizza with vegan cheese was very good, love that they added so many mushrooms. Also got the garlic and herb fries which were good, but did not have much garlic and herb topping. Overall would recommend this place given limited options in the area, and the scenery is great. Good place to stop after a hike.

Google
Alice’s Restaurant is an awesome spot! The food is great, the service is always friendly, and the place itself has lots of cool things to check out inside if you get a table there. Sitting out back is also awesome — there are tons of benches and it’s really pretty out there. On top of that, you’ll see plenty of cool sports cars and motorcycles while you’re there. I recommend going during the week if you can, because it gets really busy on the weekends. Definitely worth checking out!

Google
Cute place to fuel up before or after biking, hiking, or just driving in the windy roads of the Santa Cruz mountains. Food was okay and plenty of space to seat down. It's gets busy during the weekends.

Google
I got the stake and eggs. I ordered the stake medium rare and I got it a perfect medium rare, eggs were great sunny side, potatoes were hot and fluffy, and bread 👍. My friend got one of the omelet and according to her it had little to no seasoning, though she really enjoyed the potatoes. Atmosphere was great with indoor, patio, and outdoor seating. If you choose patio seating you'll never be cold with the propane heaters they provide. They also have a gas station if you're ever running low, and it's inexpensive. Service was quick, polite, and Bilingual (English, Spanish). Overall great experience, worth the 2 hour drive.

Google
Our favorite brunch spot in the mountains. 4-corners area with beautiful scenery, exotic cars and motorcycles. Lots of heaters on the patio with the fresh mountain air. The line is typically long, but the food is always worth the wait.

Yelp
Alice Restaurant in California has quickly become one of my favorite spots to eat. From the moment you walk in, the place feels warm and welcoming--casual but still nicely put together. The staff is genuinely friendly, not just "going through the motions," and they check in just enough without being annoying or rushed. The food is the real star, though. Everything tastes fresh and made with care. The portions are generous without being over the top, and the flavors are balanced--comfort food with a little more thought behind it. I especially liked how they pay attention to small details: plates come out hot, food is seasoned properly (not bland, not salty), and everything looks as good as it tastes.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by yesterday afternoon after a 5-mile hike at the Open Space Preserve nearby. The location is convenient for hikers and bikers, but parking is a challenge. The lot is very small, and while there is some street parking, it was pretty packed. The menu has a wide range of options -- breakfast pizzas, burgers, salads, and more. My friend ordered a coffee and a breakfast burrito, and I ordered a root beer, herb fries, and a half-and-half gluten-free pizza (half wild mushrooms, half Italian combo). Ordering is done outside where they give you a beeper, then you find your own seating. Indoor seating is limited, but there is outdoor seating with heat lamps. We managed to sit inside at the bar area. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, the food was a bit hit or miss. My fries were cold, and although I ordered herb fries, I was given garlic fries instead -- they weren't great. The gluten-free pizza was very small, and with the extra $3 charge for the gluten-free crust, it didn't feel worth the price. The flavor was just okay, nothing memorable. On the positive side, my friend's breakfast burrito was quite large -- she only ate half. The breakfast potatoes, however, were very small and looked a bit greasy. Overall, Alice's is fine for convenience and location, especially after a hike, but given the price and food quality, it's not somewhere I see us frequenting again.

Yelp
Always like coming here especially when it rains. Nothing beats eating in a wooden cabin next to a heater while it's raining. The service is pretty sweet, seems like they always have a bunch of wholesome people running the place. The beers are great, the brunch has lots of great options. I love the burgers, definitely can't go wrong. This is kind of the place to be after a bike ride or a nice hike at Purisima or Corte madera trail. I took my family here for my engagement party. Oh yeah, they are super dog friendly :) Lots of outdoor space, almost 15-20 picnic tables outside, a front patio(heated) a back patio(heated) a side patio(heated) and also a little indoor section with like 8 tables. On weekends you can find groups in the parking lot checking out luxury cars. This is such a fun, family friendly atmosphere to be a part of!

Yelp
Crazy busy parking lot. We ended up parking our car on the side of the road, a ways from the restaurant. The restaurant was very busy when we were there on a Saturday. Maybe a weekday would be a better time to visit. Wait in line to order your food, get a buzzer and find yourself a table. Service and food were both good, but it was a bit of a zoo on the day we were there.

Yelp
This restaurant stands, without a doubt as one of my most favorite dining destinations in and around the Bay Area. Our first visit, approximately eight to nine years ago, instantly cemented its place in our hearts and it has since become the star of our favorite random and spontaneous weekend plans. Whether it's for a hearty breakfast, a brunch, a comforting lunch, an evening dinner, or just a simple, soul-warming coffee or hot chocolate, the experience is always perfect. The staff is consistently friendly and exceptionally cool, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The ambiance is truly second to none: a beautiful location infused with warm, cozy vibes that make every visit feel like coming home. I have an immense love for this place.

Yelp
I usually go to Alice's for breakfast- I happened to pass it and decided to do some take out dessert. I loved the evening ambiance- with heaters and lights. It had such a lot cabin feel - cool evening with heaters outside - gorgeous! The staff is always so friendly and helpful. The dinner menu looked quite interesting- I will have to come back again. My all time favorite place for sticky toffee - if you love sugary delight - hot dessert with ice cream on top, do stop by! You will not be disappointed:)

Yelp
Christmas Eve lunch was definitely less busy than expected. Sat outside on the front porch under the heaters (which were more than adequate). Another Redneck Benedict and Irish Coffee, excellent and filling. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
This is a cool little spot out in the beautiful mountains amongst the trees. It's a gas station/restaurant catering to a lot of people out for a drive through the scenic Santa Cruz hills. The food is good. You order outside and they bring it to your table. Employees are great, and if the line is long they still work to get you through quickly. On my recent visit there were four of us and I was the only one with an issue...they made the wrong pizza so they had to re-make it, but they were quick to do so and it wasn't a big deal. The food was hot and the drinks were cold, just the way you want them. Come early, parking can be a nightmare, but it's such a cool place, you have to visit.
google avatar

Yelp
If there is one thing I'd recommend is the BMW BURGER! The ingredients taste so fresh and delicious and I always come back ordering the same thing. The hot chocolate is so comforting especially when it gets colder during the winter. Parking gets crowded on the weekends but as long as you circle around for a few minutes, there's always someone bound to leave. Highly recommend if you want to make a drive out here and I love that they're dog friendly.

Yelp
Came to Alice's Restaurant after a hike and it was really good. The breakfast burrito was really fresh, and went well with the side salsas and guacamole. Breakfast potatoes with some veggies were also good, but needed some more veggies. Great vibes, good food, and good service, but parking is an absolute mess. You may have to do a couple of laps to find something.

Yelp
Having seen it on my way to hikes, I've long been curious about Alice's restaurant. And on my second attempt, we made it! The first time I was going to visit, my friend had called me from Alice's Restaurant's parking lot, letting me know that it's completely congested (inside the parking lot!!!), and suggested we meet elsewhere. On my second visit, while the parking lot was still quite full, we lucked out with another customer leaving, and parked right by the entrance to the restaurant. Pro-tip: folks at the restaurant let us know that there're plenty of parking spots nearby on Skyline. Food here is decent; it's your typical American fare, with pizzas, salads, burgers, etc. We especially enjoyed the pizza! The vibe is causal as others have said, where you walk up to the cashier, place you order, then head to a table of your choosing with your #, and the staff will bring you the food when ready. What makes Alice's Restaurant really special are the people, the charm and beauty of the restaurant and surrounding areas. Owners and brothers Jamie & Andy stopped by separately to say hello and chatted with us briefly; they made us feel welcome and at ease with the place. They both seem super down-to-earth and friendly! In addition to seating areas on the deck and inside the restaurant, there're lots of tables in the back of the restaurant, amongst the tall redwood trees. There's live music two nights per week too. I can see why so many people rave about this spot! While I probably won't make a trip specifically to come eat here, I'll definitely return when we hike in the many neighboring parks (e.g. Windy Hill, El Corte de Madera, etc.)!

Yelp
We went to Alice's for the first time over the weekend. I had higher hopes to be honest. We were surprised there wasn't really much of a line on a Saturday, but with the gloomy weather I guess people didn't wanna make the drive. I ordered a blt and a gluten free honey cake. The blt was pretty average. The honey cake was good. The host was really nice, but one of the servers was kinda sassy with us when we confirmed that the honey cake was gluten free. Not sure we would come back here as in our opinion, it wasn't really worth the hype...
google avatar

Misha M.

Yelp
The service is friendly and efficient. You order your food upfront and get a buzzer that you place on your table. Someone brings you the food. The host and staff are very friendly. There's seating outside with heaters, and also inside with a dog-friendly area. The food was great. We ordered coffee, fish tacos, fish sandwich, and potato Benedict. The soup of the day was also delicious- veggie medley. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
I've lived in the Bay Area a very long time and have always wanted to try this place. We finally got around to trying it out for lunch. It is a nice drive up here. When we arrived the parking lot was very full, but we were still able to get a parking space. You stand in line to order and then seat yourself at an available table. After I ordered a gluten free pizza, we self-seated to wait for our food on the outdoor deck. As beautiful as the surroundings are, it is extremely noisy here. Motorcycle engines in the parking lot are very loud. A server brought my pizza but without the pineapple, so they took it back and threw on some cold pineapple. Unfortuantely it isn't the same when you cook it on the pizza. The gluten free crust was okay, not the worst I have had, but certainly not the best. It was nice to finally try this place out.

Yelp
Great meal at Alice's! It was my first time eating here, having driven by multiple times. I got the chicken burger - love that it's organic! And the sour patch cocktail! My favourite was the sticky toffee pudding - so so good! Please get it. The only weird thing was my friend found a sticker that said "lime juice" or something like that in his cocktail. I understand that mistakes happen

Yelp
Nestled in the redwoods like something out of a NorCal daydream, **Alice's Restaurant** is undeniably **adorable**. The rustic charm, the outdoor seating, the motorcycle-meets-country-diner energy--it's the kind of place that *feels* like a hidden gem, even if everyone and their cousin already knows about it. The menu? **Massive.** From burgers and Benedicts to vegan scrambles and tri-tip sandwiches, there's **something for literally everyone**--which makes it a solid choice for mixed company. But with that many options... comes **serious wait times**. And that's where the wheels start to come off a bit. We waited **forever** for our food--like, "Is this a slow food movement protest?" levels of slow. Great company helps, sure, but if you're hungry or on any kind of schedule, just know: you're in for the long haul. When the food finally did arrive, it was solid--not mind-blowing, but comforting and hearty, which is kind of the vibe here anyway. Would I come back? Sure, for the **ambiance and the ride up alone**. Just next time, I'm bringing snacks... for the wait.

Yelp
This was our first time visiting, and we were a little confused at first about how the whole process worked. When we arrived, there was a line of about 20 people outside, which we assumed was for seating but it turns out that's actually where you place your order before heading in to find a table. Luckily, the line moved fairly quickly, and they have large menus posted outside so you can browse and be ready to order by the time you reach the front. One thing I wasn't a big fan of was having to pay and tip upfront before knowing what the service would be like. They did have a cash tip jar as well, so I held off on tipping with my card and decided to leave a cash tip later based on our experience and I'm glad I did. Once we placed our order, we were pleasantly surprised to find that there was tons of seating available inside, out on the patio, and around plenty of picnic tables, even though it was a busy Saturday afternoon. We were handed a pager, and as soon as we sat down, it buzzed. I went up to the pickup area and found it was just our drinks, so I headed back to the table. About 10 minutes later, the pager went off again and I went back to grab our meals. I had a classic cheeseburger and chips. It was simple but really well done, the burger was juicy, and the bun was great. As we were eating, I noticed that while most people picked up their food like I did, some tables were getting food delivered to them. Not sure what the system is there, but it seemed a little inconsistent. That said, there were staff roaming around checking on guests and offering drink refills, which was a nice touch. Everyone we encountered was super friendly, working hard, and had great attitudes. It made me feel good about leaving a proper tip at the end. The setting was really charming, surrounded by woods and a small body of water. It had a relaxed, almost rustic vibe that made the whole experience feel unique and memorable. Definitely worth a visit, just go in knowing the setup is a little different!

Yelp
Alices is a staple of the bay area. The atmosphere is absolutely stunning with a lively inside, an amazing beer garden and a culture surrounding the area like no other. The service is quick and the food is what you want from a diner. My favorite is breakfast on a weekend where you can see every insane, crazy and expensive car you can possibly imagine in the parking lot. If you like nature, cars and a lovely place to hangout, Alices is for you.
google avatar

Sayeeda A.

Yelp
The ambience is just incredible, with the lovely picnic style seating outside surrounded by tall evergreens, and overhead string lighting. Loved the live music on the friday evening we visited. The staff were cordial and welcoming. You order at the entrance counter and recieve a buzzer for when food is ready to be picked up at the same counter. I was very excited about the wagyu beef burger, it missed the flavor margin. The kale salad was yummy. Will come back again to try other food options
google avatar

Yelp
Expected so much more! This roadside restaurant is nestled within the redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains. There is an order station as soon you walk up the deck. They have an extensive menu to order breakfast, lunch or dinner with a good local beer menu. Plenty of seating on the deck and out in the back. It provides a great place to hang out and eat amongst nature. The service was helpful and fast. They brought out our food to the back area, despite giving us a buzzer to go pick up our food. Not sure why they hand those out if they aren't used. We ordered the Jalopy Burger. This was a good burger but there is a lot of bun. The bun was very dense. It comes with homemade chips that were overcooked and lack taste. We ordered the plain fries, that name is accurate. Again over cooked and no seasoning. Finally, we ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich based on the servers recommendation. The pork was extremely dry! We had to dump all the BBQ sauce on it to moistin it a bit. The same bun as the burger. Same overcooked chips. The cole slaw was good, not to much sauce. We did like the experience of sitting in the back yard area and eating, just wish the food was better.

Yelp
Alice's is tucked away and feels like you're deep in the forest once you're seated among the trees. They have a great variety in their menu included vegan and vegetarian options. The ambiance is the best part in my opinion, especially if you choose to sit outside.
google avatar

Yelp
I've driven by this restaurant many times in the past and finally decided to stop by since I was in the area already. My first impression of the restaurant is that it blends wonderfully into the nature scenery! The staff was very nice and the outdoor heating was very adequate. I didn't feel cold at all (it was a chilly day actually). We found a nice outdoor table in the back of the restaurant. Here is where I must interrupt my review of the restaurant to say something about the patrons. I've never been to this restaurant before and thought maybe to get water, it was self-service. I saw a water dispenser inside by the bar, so I got up and went in to get cups and started pouring water for my table. I did notice there was a family sitting inside; maybe they wanted to get away from the cold and wanted to sit indoors. However, that's ironic because it felt much colder inside that space than the outdoor heated tables. Or maybe they just wanted the exclusivity to sit away from us plebeians. After what happens next, I suspect the latter. I got my water in both hands and I'm walking towards the door. One of the ladies at the table just ambushes me with "Can you close the door on the way out?" She wasn't rude, but she was also not exactly polite (if you're going to ask a stranger for a favor, maybe say 'please'?). She basically ordered me to close the door on the way out. With a tight-lipped smile, I manage to gently close the door with my hands full of water. After I sat down, I am left to wonder if that white family inside thought I was actually service staff. I noticed almost everyone eating there was white, so maybe they just thought any non-white person was staff or something. I was tempted to go inside for another cup of water but then just "accidentally" leave the door open --- to air out the white privilege and entitlement stuffing up that room. Other than that, we very much enjoyed the Patty Melt and Reuben sandwiches. I would come back if the stars aligned, but I would be wary of the other customers.

Had the potato Benedict, and it was top notch. Service very good, and a friendly auto/bike enthusiast vibe. L

Yelp
We took a beautiful drive up La Honda RD, to Alice's restaurant. Awesome redwoods, ferns & clean air. Parking was tough. Recommend a small vehicle or plan ahead to get here at opening. Arrived at 12;00 -height of activity. About 30 people ahead of us. You walk up to a person sitting outside who will take your order, pay for the meal they give you a buzzer. Then you choose your dining location, and place your buzzer on the white sticker on the table. Our complete meal arrived within five minutes. Food was delicious, waiters, very attentive and overall climate very friendly .

Food was amazing and the area and views are killer. Everything came out really quickly and it has a nice cozy atmosphere.

Yelp
We took the RV (and motorcyclea) up to Carmel/Monterey for the weekend and went for a ride up through Woodside, CA with a stop at Alice's Restaurant for lunch. The parking lot was crowded and it seemed like a long line to get in, but things moved quickly. I ordered the BLT with homemade chips while my buddy (Matt) ordered the Albacore Tuna Melt with homemade chips and a side of onion rings. Meal was very tasty and filling. Good choices for sure. Service was on point, friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely going back the next time we are in the area.

Yelp
Came here on Sunday afternoon after a nearby hike at Wunderlich Park. There are some parking spots in front of the restaurant, but I took the last one at the time, so you might need to look for a spot. Lots of vintage sports cars and motorcycles, so be careful parking! When we first arrived, we were honestly pretty confused. There's a table out front where you have to order from, and since it does get pretty busy, there was a pretty long line to order. At first, we thought the line was for takeout orders only, but we soon realized it was for actual orders. We waited for about 15 minutes in the line. Be mindful that the weather can get cold, so bring some layers! They have heat lamps on the patios but not near the lines. I ordered Alice's omelette, while my friend ordered the Steak and eggs, as well as a Diet Coke (they don't have Coke Zero, much to her dismay. But she noted that the Diet Coke was some of the crispiest Diet Cokes she's had at a restaurant, much to her happiness!). After you order, you get a buzzer and can seat yourself while waiting for your food. We found seating indoors (very rustic cabin vibe) right away, and it was very warm inside. But you can sit outdoors and admire the trees and nature around you as well. It took around 10 minutes for our food to be ready, which we picked up at the window on the patio. The food came very warm, and we were so excited to dig in. My omelette was a great consistency, although I wasn't the biggest fan of the ingredients falling out while I was eating it (the egg was thinner on the bottom). However, I enjoyed the flavor combination, as well as the side of potatoes and biscuit. My friend noted her medium steak and sunny side up eggs were to die for! The steak was a large size and was juicy. The eggs were amazing as well, and it was her first time having eggs that weren't scrambled (crazy, I know!). It served to be a good egg selection, as she was to able to dip her steak, biscuit, and potatoes in the egg yolk. She did a happy dance as she ate :). Overall, despite the initial confusion, we were very glad to have eaten at Alice's. It was the perfect way to wrap up our outdoor hiking adventure. My friends had recommended the breakfast burrito and pancakes, which we would love to come back and try, along with the eggs benedict!

Yelp
Fun spot on Skyline - tricky to find parking given how busy everything is, so plan accordingly. Also popular spot for a motorcycle stop, so plenty of background noise. I ordered a Le Mans burger, which was cooked medium rare as I requested, and was quite tasty. The staff were also very friendly, and we were able to sit outside with our dog. Was the food amazing? No, but a fun outing and nice vibe overall!

Yelp
I've been going to Alice's for years & it has been continuously yummy!! It's a place I take visitors, the vibe is calm & laid back. I feel comfortable going solo. Parking is a challenge especially on the weekends & competing with motorcycles. But it's been part of the charm of Alice's.

Yelp
The food and service here are pretty good. My husband enjoyed his burger and the chicken sandwich was pretty good. We didn't really like the garlic fries because they were oily and the raw garlic taste was too much. The outside seating area is so pretty though.

Yelp
I ordered the Harley Burger & lemonade It was good service. It was my first time there. I love the location and the music and the employees Service with a smile The restaurant was very clean Wonderful service!

Yelp
Drove by this place so many times heading to fishing trips on Highway 84 that I lost count! I've been here twice since, in the last two months. Every time it has not disappointed. The first go-around I got the chicken pesto sandwich which was incredibly delicious with tender and well-roasted chicken. The second go-around I picked up their steak sandwich which was ordered to medium doneness and came with some crispy onion rings as well. I've tried their mud pie as well as a number of the non alcoholic drinks and really liked all of those too! I really can't complain about anything here -- my recommendation would be to go outside to the back picnic area and take in the surrounding forest views while enjoying your meal. One could also admire some of the exotic vehicles parked outside as this place is frequented by exotic car and motorcycle enthusiasts. Seating is never a problem and service is super quick and efficient -- you get a buzzer and they let you know via buzzer when to pick up your order. I plan on making this a regular part of my routine whenever I pass by on 84!

Yelp
Tons of outdoor seating tucked into the woods this classic spot is a great road trip stop. We enjoyed homemade pie a la mode and some burgers. The burgers were okay and the chips thick but the pie was so yummy! You order at the front and grab the number buzzer and then sit down and wait for your food to be picked up.

Yelp
Roadside type of restaurant in the hills. It's self serve at the counter and you pick up the order when it's ready. They have some beers, bbq, breakfast and more. They have some indoor seating and benches outside. I tried the pulled pork sandwich it was ok. It was a fun place to get together with friends.

Yelp
Been coming here for years now. But now w/Charlie the Challenger, it's a great drive to come to Alice's, say hello to the bikers and auto enthusiasts, and to strangers that are visiting or just stopping in to grab a bite to eat. The experience here - never a dull moment. From the hostess, servers, just the entire staff in general are great. The food is delicious so there you go - come on in to experience Alice's. You'll love it here =D

Yelp
I love this place. First of all, the food here is really good. The breakfast here is tasty, I especially love the Benedicts and my go to is that cowboy Benedict with the egg and homemade corned-beef. The service here is super friendly, the people here always make sure you're taken care of. The ambiance? Unmatched. If you love cars, come here in the morning especially in the weekends and you'll be sure to spot some amazing rides. The drive here alone is already amazing as it is. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Busy busy!! If there's more than one person in your party I advise one stay in line to order and one find a table. It's first come first serve for tables. We had nachos with chicken, California turkey melt and Brie and pear pizza. All were great!! The pizza was a stand out, we devoured it! Note the different menus on weekends vs weekdays and enjoy!

Yelp
Great stop for motorists and Palo Alto visitors looking to fill their itinerary with something unique. The restaurant's casual ambience paired with the surrounding scenery offer a very relaxed experience. Having tried several of their breakfast and lunch dishes, the food is consistently better than expected given its ambience/setting. The portions are quite filling, so it's best to order and plan your departure accordingly, as only windy roads access this location.

Yelp
Food is consistently good. The ambient is welcoming and nice. They have both indoor and outdoor sitting areas. I have tried omelets and burritos and both have been delicious.

Yelp
I've made a fun-filled habit of driving any new car I get (which isn't often, I'll have to admit) from where I live down Highway 1 with a left on Highway 84 and up to Skyline where Alice's Restaurant sits. The best way I can describe the ambiance here is "forest lodge meets diner". :-) This is absolutely my kinda vibe! Since I hadn't visited in a while, I noticed the outdoor seating is now covered with tent tarps with propane heaters to keep guests warm. There's indoor seating as well, but hey, if they offer outdoor heated seating, I'm takin' it! :-) The other difference I noticed is that I now order from a counter outside instead of being offered a menu like my previous visit (quite a few years ago). No problem. The food and drink was brought out in short order, too. Since my new car is a BMW, I obviously ordered their BMW Burger. ;-) Absolutely DELISH, and one of the tallest-stacked burgers I've ever eaten. Comes with a side of the thickest, crunchiest potato chips I think I ever had. Do they make their own? I need to ask next time I'm down there. Well, my most recent visit with my new car has now inspired me to visit a LOT more than just every time I get a new car! I should turn this into a monthly thing and start trying other items in their very expansive menu.

Yelp
This is such a beautiful place to have lunch after a nice hike or a cruise through the hills. Lots of scenic areas and nice cars. A nice escape away from the city. The food is actually pretty good. The line may look long because you're ordering first before sitting, but there's lots of seats. Definitely would come back.

Yelp
Came here last Thursday at about 4:30 with my dog and mother-in-law. We all had a great time. Came back again today at about 6:15. Much more crowded. Next time, we will arrive earlier. Ordered food and drink, claimed a picnic table, then listened to the Thursday live music offering. Food was ready in a reasonable amount of time, all things considered. Drinks (beer and margarita) ended up taking 30 more minutes. I stood waiting for half of that time, assured by the staff repeatedly that "they are making them". I could clearly see the bartender and he was definitely NOT making them. I was annoyed so, after 30 minutes, I asked to speak to the manager. He came out just after the drinks finally arrived, apologized, and offered to comp the entire meal. I thought that was overly generous but I decided not to say anything. A few minutes later, he came out, apologized for the new bartender, and gave me a receipt showing that he had comp'ed meal. I would have been happy if he had just comp'ed the drinks. I decided that, at least, I owed him a good review of the restaurant. The food is consistently excellent (been here many times over the years), the bar offerings are extensive, the outdoor seeing is expansive, and the vibe is great. I highly recommend this place for families, couples, and dogs.

Yelp
Sadly Alice's restaurant still hasn't returned to its pre-covid glory. Table service is still non-existent and they have awkward order and pick-up tables cluttering the restaurant. Yet they'll still ask you for an 18-25% tip at check-out, even before you've received your food and beverages. I liked this place a lot more when the tips were justified by good table service.

Yelp
Love this restaurant. Great place for brunch, especially after a morning hike. This place is a magical place to stop by when in the mountains. Great outdoor & indoor seating. Great service. Wonderful food. Amazing vibe! Steak is also amazing here. A lot of parking as well, but this place gets really busy so be prepared for a wait and a line but it's well worth it! 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
What a unique find. We were on the way to Big Sur and this was a most perfect stop. Everyone was so nice. You order before you go in. You can take out, sit outside on the tables on a large property or eat inside. It is a place to take in and stroll. The food was high quality and very delicious. Everything from the kale salad, I got, and the eggs and omelets my dining partners got were wonderful. I wish I lived closer because I would go every week.

Yelp
Beautiful location, delicious food! Its mostly self serve, order up at the front and pick up your food when your buzzer goes off. We ordered the Yamaha sandwich, Beyond burger, and jalapeño poppers. Everything was super yummy and loved the house made chips too! It was decorated very cutely for fall with pumpkins everywhere and the outdoor area was really nice to sit after eating.

Yelp
Post chestnut picking, we all came by to Alice's to try out the food. I got the brisket, and it was pretty dry, so it was difficult to enjoy. My SO made the better decision and got a juicy burger.

Yelp
This place was packed, came here after lunch hours and thought it wouldn't be that bad. Long line to order food. We got burgers and poppers. The burgers were good...nothing mind blowing. I ended up putting hot sauce on it chips were decent. The poppers were really good! I'd get those again. I guess for the area it's a cool spot to stop by but I would drive out of my way to try it. Maybe breakfast options are better?

Yelp
We came to Alice's for Valentine's Day dinner! The place was decorated with flowers and a special menu was available. There was live music and it is definitely a small getaway away from the city. The drinks were yummy and entrees gave rustic vibes. I especially loved the soup! We did have to wait for about 30 minutes for our table with reservation so I would plan for some leniency with your reservation time!
