Wow, everything we got was so good! We got the meatball and prosciutto subs. The ingredients were so fresh, and the meatballs were soft, cheesy, and so flavorful. We loved them so much that we went back and got their cannolis too haha. The chocolate cannoli had orange zest, which I loved, and the pistachio one was good too, I just wish the pistachio flavor was a bit stronger. We found even more things that looked interesting, like gelato, tiramisu, their housemade pastas, and other sub flavors, so we’ll definitely go back! I wish there were a bar counter or somewhere we could eat, even without chairs though.

I’ve heard so many great things about Alimentari and finally had the chance to stop in to pick up a sandwich and wow, it did not disappoint! I went with the Spicy Soppressata, which came with capicola, smoked muenster, hot giardiniera spread, nduja mayo, and Tuscan greens — all layered perfectly on Italian bread that’s made specifically for them. I tried to take a photo before digging in, but honestly, I couldn’t wait. Every bite was packed with flavor, spicy, smoky, and just the right amount of crunch from the greens and giardiniera. What surprised me most was that Alimentari isn’t just a sandwich spot , it’s also a charming market with beautifully curated gifts and specialty items that would make perfect presents for friends (or for yourself!). If you haven’t been yet, go. You’ll be glad you did.

On a whim, my spouse and I popped into Alimentari. What a groovy joint! Such a beautifully curated selection of products. The store has items I have not seen anywhere else and I imagine are difficult to find. The deli section is top notch. We got a roast beef sandwich and a bahn mi - both were phenomenal. The roast beef is one of the very best sammies I've had in Madison. The ingredients were fresh and delicious, and the sandwich had generous portions of everything. Both my spouse and I would and absolutely will return to Alimentari. Check it out, everyone!

Definitely the best sandwich I’ve ever had. I just got the plain turkey, but the meat was so flavorful, and you can just tell everything is fresh and homemade. One sandwich is very filling and it was the perfect ratio of meat to toppings and sauce. Would definitely recommend!!

I am in LOVE with this place. Not only are the sandwiches delicious (we’ve had the Italian beef, meatball bomber, spicy soppressata and the prosciutto) but they’re HUGE and VERY reasonably priced. They offer a variety of Italian grocery items to peruse while you’re waiting for your order. One thing to note is there is no indoor seating, but there is a park very close by with picnic tables.

I’ve heard so many good things about this place, we decided to try! It was amazing! Sandwiches were delicious and I love that they use Madison sourdough bread! Walking into the store felt fresh and clean! I didn’t have a lot of time to look around but the displays were beautiful! Food and ingredients are high quality and the staff was very friendly! So excited to have a sandwich shop like this on the near west side!!

Ordered a sub sandwich. Was appalled to receive ½ a sub (5" long) for $13+. "Where's the rest of my sandwich?!" Although the sandwich was tasty and well balanced with perhaps a bit too much meat, I find it hard to believe that people willing pay that much for so little. Way overpriced for what you get. I would be open to paying $8 to $10 for what I got. Also disappointed to find zero vegan/gluten free menu options, other than a basic salad. You can do better. Plenty of vegan/veg options in Italian cuisine. Store is basic, bland. Interesting selection of packaged goods, with just the basic selection of gluten-free pastas that cost much less at the Willy Street Co-op. Why are all the red sauces spicy? Lots of potential but you're not there yet. A Wisconsin-themed Italianesque sandwiched shop, but not really an Italian "alimentari"; maybe an upscale version of Fraboni's or Gino's.

My sandwich, the porchetta was missing something that could have made it better, like fig jam, perhaps, my husband’s trout salad sandwich was tastier. Overall very nice selection of N/A drinks and mixers and friendly staff.
