Wow, everything we got was so good! We got the meatball and prosciutto subs. The ingredients were so fresh, and the meatballs were soft, cheesy, and so flavorful. We loved them so much that we went back and got their cannolis too haha. The chocolate cannoli had orange zest, which I loved, and the pistachio one was good too, I just wish the pistachio flavor was a bit stronger. We found even more things that looked interesting, like gelato, tiramisu, their housemade pastas, and other sub flavors, so we’ll definitely go back! I wish there were a bar counter or somewhere we could eat, even without chairs though.

I’ve heard so many great things about Alimentari and finally had the chance to stop in to pick up a sandwich and wow, it did not disappoint! I went with the Spicy Soppressata, which came with capicola, smoked muenster, hot giardiniera spread, nduja mayo, and Tuscan greens — all layered perfectly on Italian bread that’s made specifically for them. I tried to take a photo before digging in, but honestly, I couldn’t wait. Every bite was packed with flavor, spicy, smoky, and just the right amount of crunch from the greens and giardiniera. What surprised me most was that Alimentari isn’t just a sandwich spot , it’s also a charming market with beautifully curated gifts and specialty items that would make perfect presents for friends (or for yourself!). If you haven’t been yet, go. You’ll be glad you did.

I’ve heard so many good things about this place, we decided to try! It was amazing! Sandwiches were delicious and I love that they use Madison sourdough bread! Walking into the store felt fresh and clean! I didn’t have a lot of time to look around but the displays were beautiful! Food and ingredients are high quality and the staff was very friendly! So excited to have a sandwich shop like this on the near west side!!

On a whim, my spouse and I popped into Alimentari. What a groovy joint! Such a beautifully curated selection of products. The store has items I have not seen anywhere else and I imagine are difficult to find. The deli section is top notch. We got a roast beef sandwich and a bahn mi - both were phenomenal. The roast beef is one of the very best sammies I've had in Madison. The ingredients were fresh and delicious, and the sandwich had generous portions of everything. Both my spouse and I would and absolutely will return to Alimentari. Check it out, everyone!

Google
I am in LOVE with this place. Not only are the sandwiches delicious (we’ve had the Italian beef, meatball bomber, spicy soppressata and the prosciutto) but they’re HUGE and VERY reasonably priced. They offer a variety of Italian grocery items to peruse while you’re waiting for your order. One thing to note is there is no indoor seating, but there is a park very close by with picnic tables.

Google
Ordered a sub sandwich. Was appalled to receive ½ a sub (5" long) for $13+. "Where's the rest of my sandwich?!" Although the sandwich was tasty and well balanced with perhaps a bit too much meat, I find it hard to believe that people willing pay that much for so little. Way overpriced for what you get. I would be open to paying $8 to $10 for what I got. Also disappointed to find zero vegan/gluten free menu options, other than a basic salad. You can do better. Plenty of vegan/veg options in Italian cuisine. Store is basic, bland. Interesting selection of packaged goods, with just the basic selection of gluten-free pastas that cost much less at the Willy Street Co-op. Why are all the red sauces spicy? Lots of potential but you're not there yet. A Wisconsin-themed Italianesque sandwiched shop, but not really an Italian "alimentari"; maybe an upscale version of Fraboni's or Gino's.

Google
Definitely the best sandwich I’ve ever had. I just got the plain turkey, but the meat was so flavorful, and you can just tell everything is fresh and homemade. One sandwich is very filling and it was the perfect ratio of meat to toppings and sauce. Would definitely recommend!!

Yelp
I discovered Alimentari after diving into some research on where to find the best tiramisu in Madison--and this Italian inspired store kept popping up again and again. Located in a small strip center with plenty of parking, it's a cozy little gem that's easy to get to. I came in with one mission: to try the tiramisu. A heads-up--they serve it frozen from the freezer, not fresh. But don't let that deter you. Once thawed, it was absolutely delicious. The texture was creamy, the flavor was well-balanced, and it was beautifully presented too. The store itself is a treat for food lovers. Beyond desserts, they also offer fresh pasta made daily, sandwiches, charcuterie boards, wine, and gourmet pantry staples like canned goods and high-quality olive oils. The staff were also friendly and welcoming! If you're craving a taste of Italy without the airfare, this spot is well worth a visit.

Yelp
Visited Alimentari for their sandwiches for the first time last Saturday. Went during brunch time and there wasn't too long of a wait. The venue is really cool, there's a wine section, a food section filled with various produce and a fully stocked fridge & freezer full of house-made goods. I ordered the soppressata sandwich. It was fantastic. The bread was crunch & chewy, the ingredients were fresh, and the sandwich was around $13. Huge fan of the sandwiches they're making and personally I think it is on par with Cassetta's sandwiches. Check them out!

Yelp
The food lived up to its hype. The taste is incredible, only problem I had is with the bread. It's so tough, that the meat starts falling out the other end after every bite. I had to keep rotating the sandwich and figure out how to avoid it falling apart. The place itself is a bit crowded and is the market has some crazyy prices for random producrs. Staff are friendly too

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and also picked up a few items for future meals--pizza sauce, noodles, and their housemade giardiniera. I tried the roast beef sandwich and really enjoyed it, especially with their horseradish sauce. It had great flavor and wasn't overly spicy, though I wouldn't have minded a bit more heat. The bread was a bit tough, which made the sandwich slightly harder to eat, but overall the flavor was excellent. This place is a great little spot to grab a bite and stock up on some quality ingredients for dinner at home.

Yelp
Such a cool Italian inspired spot off of Monroe. We wanted to try out their sandwiches and were not disappointed. The pork porchetta was unreal. I highly recommend it to anyone who's obsessed with goat cheese like myself. We also ordered the pastrami and Swiss but realized after we got home they forgot to add the cheese. I will say, although the bread was delicious, it was a bit thick for my personal sandwich preferences. We showed up at peak lunch hours on a Saturday, so granted it was packed. However, there is so many packaged Italian items to browse through inside and even a dedicated wine and liquor corner. This definitely helps pass the time and we will be returning in the future now that I know all the ingredients they offer.

Yelp
The service was wonderful, the deli guy was so very nice - even with my annoying questions! They were pretty fast, even with a lot of people there, but I wouldn't recommend stopping here if you're in a rush. The white wine spritzer was SO GOOD! And the sandwich was unreal. I ate the entire thing in one sitting. I wish I had another one to eat as I'm writing this. The iberico ham chips were terrible though!

Yelp
This store was so cute, I really loved all the products you can get here! My partner is a regular here to get their sandwiches, and all the staff I've met are so friendly. Along with our sandwiches, I also got a balsamic vinegar and a fennel pollen/lavender goat cheese, which were both lovely on a salad I had this week. - banh mi (6.5/10): twas a good sandwich, the proportions are pretty huge, all the ingredients tasted really fresh and I enjoyed all the pickled veg. The only thing I disliked was that the pork was very salty which made it difficult to eat the whole thing-- however, important to note that my partner recommended this sandwich to me and said that it wasn't this salty when he got it so it's possible the saltiness was just a fluke that day! Overall, would come back to try more sandwiches (especially the porchetta w/ apple and fennel) and buy more goods, it had a lovely small business vibe that I would love to continue to support!

Yelp
Really enjoyed this sandwich! The protein was very high quality as well as all the ingredients. I got the prosciutto and it was magical! Bread was also very good! Overall so tasty and fresh!

Yelp
Excellent smoked trout sandwich and artichoke sandwich. My mother in law said "the turkey is good, but big." . Definitely would go back.

Yelp
The most fresh and delicious sandwiches! I stopped in during a weekday to grab a sandwich for lunch. It was order at the counter, grab and go style. The location is great being right off Willy Street. It's close to everything and has a parking lot. After I placed my order at the counter it only took about 5 minutes for them to make my sandwich. I got the prosciutto sandwich. It was so very good! It was big so I could have split it with someone. The bread, mozzarella, tomatoes, and arugula were so fresh. It had a little bit too much meat for me but overall a great sandwich. The balsamic and oil dressing added good flavor. Not only is it a great place to grab a sandwich but it's a mini Italian grocery store. The space is well organized and clean. It was fun looking at all of their cheese, meats, wine, etc. It was hard for me to not get a pint of gelato! The homemade pasta looked incredible as well. I need to stop back in and get some of their grocery items.

Yelp
It smells so delicious when you walk in. There's a variety of jams, pastas, meats, and frozen items. I ordered the meatball sub and the porchetta. It took about 5-10 minutes (granted, I think I beat the lunch rush because whole flock of people walked in after). The meatball sub: omg there were at least 5 very large meatballs. Every time I had a bite, a meatball was falling out of the sub - this is just to highlight that they ARE NOT skimping. This is a sub I'd get if I'm eating it right away. So hearty, flavorful. Would totally split this again with someone. I was so stuffed halfway eating this. Porchetta: the apples add a nice sweet addition. If you're looking for something savory with a hint of sweetness. I loved the bread. Would come back for the trout or basically any other sub! Cannoli: crispy outside, my favorite comment about a dessert: it wasn't too sweet (*this is a good sign*). I think there were hints of lemon in the filling.

Yelp
With so many options coming at you right when you walk in the door, it can be overwhelming at first. However, no matter what you get, you'll be itching to come back. Friendly staff and great environment. No seating inside, but that gives you the option to walk to a nearby park and enjoy your sandwich there

Yelp
Stopped in to their new location-love it's closer to my house. More space in their new spot. Same ordering system-order at counter and once you receive your sandwich, pay at the register. While it is still top 3 in Madison, I'm dropping my rating a star for their pastrami sandwich. The sliced meat is way too fatty to be served cold. It was rather one note and the cold fat coated my tongue and teeth. I would recommend it served hot. Of course, I'll still come back. Just avoid that option.

Yelp
This is a small fancy shop with a lot of great products. I came to get a sandwich for lunch. I got a beef roast sandwich and it was excellent. It had a wasabi kind of a spicy kick to it. And it was really hot. If you dont like spicy food may be its not for you. They had 4 flavors of home made gelato, from which I took 3 - spumoni, pistachio and caramel pie. It was really good. I also took a Barons gelato (lavander london fog flavor). That was a good try as well. Saw Mayana chocolate for the first time, so got a mayan spice bar flavor chocolate. Loved it. It had a center of caramel and some spiciness to it. Took amara falso non alcoholic cocktail, it was a little bitter for me. And had a ginger kick. Over all everything from here was good.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in Madison! We have tried most of them at this point and not a single sandwich has been disappointing. They also sell lasagne you can bake at home, it was very tasty as well!

AylaRose L.

Yelp
Love the artichoke sandwich! Great vibe in the shop. Great service. Would love to see a few more vegetarian sandwich varieties on the menu in the future. :)

Yelp
Such yummy sandwiches! Stop here to treat yourself if you want a "beyond ordinary" Sammy. Super sweet service, you can buy great wines and other snacks!

Yelp
Quick, friendly service. Really well-stocked Italian market, delicious sandwiches, plenty of variety.

Yelp
Alimentari all day. Their Italian beef rivals any in Chicago. I said what I said. Their bread is magnificent.

Yelp
European style living with good people and good food. That's Alimentari. Welcome to the neighborhood. Let us know how we can support you.

Yelp
I'm unsure about giving this place a good review because it would mean they might be out of sandwiches when I get there... the sandwiches... they are... SO GOOD!
google avatar

Alyssa B.

Yelp
The new location is great! The sandwiches are amazing as always and they have a great selection of fresh made pastas and other fun Italian finds. I had the mortadella and a pistachio cannoli, it was amazing! I haven't stopped thinking about it. The staff is friendly and very helpful. We will be back often!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Get here now! My Porchetta Sandwich was amazing! The family swooped on 4 different sandwiches and they would all run back for another. Bread was perfect and crunchy. Our families new spot for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best sandwich I've ever had- no joke! I got the Prosciutto and my husband got the Smoked Turkey. Both were excellent! The bread can make or break a sandwich, and these sandwiches are served on a beautiful crusty Italian bread. Super fresh and HUGE- either come hungry or plan on bringing half your sandwich home. In addition to the excellent sandwiches, they also sell a variety of specialty groceries. We picked up a couple bags of dried pasta to try. I wish they had something like this in Milwaukee! We weren't going straight home otherwise I would've indulged in some of their perishable groceries as well. Will DEFINITELY be back!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
The sandwiches at Alimentari are truly phenomenal. The bread is amazing...I could eat one of these every day! Everyone is always super friendly and this little grocery store is so quaint and cute. It's a must for those looking for specialty food for a party or just a nice meal at home. Highly recommend checking it out! Plenty of parking.

Yelp
killer sandwiches nice products, chill vibe nice service found this on a whim visiting town, random spot but a lovely find!

Yelp
Very delicious food and good location also friendly staff. And a very comfortable atmosphere.

Yelp
The prosciutto sandwich I got here was incredible. The bread was perfect - I hate crusty bread and this bread managed to walk the fine line of fluffy + not too crusty but still substantial enough to hold the mozzarella, tomato and arugula. The prosciutto was tasty, the arugula was super fresh, and the balsamic added just the right sweetness. I wasn't planning to eat the entire sandwich but it was so good I couldn't stop.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
Not sure how I never got to Alimentari before today. Wow! Huge sandwich that is delicious - I got the prosciutto sandwich which is stuffed with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and some light balsamic and basil. The bread is hearty. It will last me a couple meals, so I'm hoping it stays fresh. I also got some of their house Calibrian potato chips which are pretty spicy and so tasty. Also some Swedish gummy candies because why not? This seems kind of like a hipster Fraboni's - I think Fraboni's is still my favorite Italian deli but this has a lot of similar products and fresh tasty food. Recommend!
google avatar

Gabby N.

Yelp
Is Alimentari the best sandwich shop in Madison? If you asked me, I would answer YES! Wonderful staff, fresh bread, delicious ingredients, fast service, and great location. Although pricey, the quality matches the expectations.
google avatar

Jenny Z.

Yelp
DROOL WORTHY SANDWICHES. Perfect for our boat day. I tried the turkey and the prosciutto. Ratios were just right on both... with plenty of protein and flavor packed in. Would definitely recommend a stop here if you're in Madison.
google avatar

Justin U.

Yelp
Alimentari kind of gives off a slightly pretentious, hipster vibe, and you know what, they deserve to be able to do that. You don't go to Alimentari if you want a piece of bread with meat. You go to Alimentari to treat yourself like the king (or queen if you prefer) you are. Some other reviewers say that they're expensive, but when you first taste that wonderful capicola, you know why you're here. Alimentari isn't for everyone. But if you're in the mood for a GOOD sandwich, and are ready to pay a little bit more than other delis in town, then stop reading, and just go here. Get anything. It's all amazing. I won't spoil it for ya - try it yourself.
google avatar

Jevin H.

Yelp
Place was very clean and had good vibes. We got the porchetta which was really good. The apple was surprisingly good with the rest of the sandwich, adding a nice sweetness. The arugula and meat were mild in flavor and the goat cheese was funky but tasty. Overall a really good place and sandwich.
google avatar

Mag L.

Yelp
Probably the best sandwiches we've had in Madison!! Quite a nice variety on the menu with something for everyone in your party. We already can't wait to go back and try more! Plus the people working were super nice and knowledgeable. I also want to explore the store more and definitely try their fresh pasta (it looked great). Our favorite sandwich was the spicy soppressata, but the prosciutto and pastrami were also great quality and delicious. These sandwiches were definitely two meals for us as well (nicely stuffed with thick and excellent bread). Will be back for sure!
google avatar

Mikaela L.

Yelp
Still a 5 and still my favorite place to get a sandwich. I can now say I have tried every sandwich now. The Porchetta is still my favorite. The Bahn Mi is my least favorite. The bread is still heavenly. The staff is still the best and the restaurant/storefront is cozy and fun to look at and be in. 10/10 one of my favorite places to eat in Madison.
google avatar

Jonathan W.

Yelp
Five stars is the only suitable rating given the quality of the sandwiches and the deli offerings. The grocery selection is super broad and you can find pretty much any Italian specialty item not available at a conventional grocery store.
google avatar

Ericka B.

Yelp
Went here to grab some sandwiches before a road trip, and was surprised how large the sandwiches were. The bread was super thick and I'd say the sandwich was probably about 8 inches long. One note on the bread though is to be careful not to cut the top of your mouth as it is a pretty crisp crust. We ordered the prosciutto and the spicy soppressata. The prosciutto was the stand out favorite of the two, with its ample amount of meat, mozzarella, tomato, and arugula. It was also dressed nicely with the balsamic and EVOO so that it wasn't overpowering or soggy, just a good flavor complement. The spicy soppressata was a solid upgrade on a classic Italian sandwich. It had a little extra pop and the meat was high quality. The hot giardiniera added more value than the nduja mayo. It didn't land quite as well as the prosciutto though. We also picked up a jar of the extra hot giardiniera which we are loving. Definitely will be our go to place to get this! Overall, pretty good food. It's a little pricy for a sandwich, but you know the ingredients are high quality. We'd say it's one of the better sandwich shops in town, but definitely a great deli.
google avatar

Paige M.

Yelp
Stop here on my half-day after work for some lunch to bring home. I purchased the artichoke sandwich with salami. I brought it home and then toasted it in the oven for just a few minutes and it turned out perfectly. The bread was fresh, crunchy, and all of the flavors mesh together phenomenally. This was by far one of the best sandwiches I've had in a while. I will definitely be returning to try more sandwiches and purchase a few items from the deli and market as well

Erica F.

Yelp
Every time we visit Madison we are super impressed by the food scene. We wanted sandwiches and thought we'd give this a try based on the great reviews. The pork porchetta sandwich was incredible! Plus we picked up a few fun extras for later. We will definitely be back to Alimentari!
google avatar

Yelp
Best sandwich in Madison. I love their salads, sandos, wine selection, pasta, specialities. Just the best.

Molly O.

Yelp
AMAZING! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Alimentari. Not only is their food absolutly to die for but their customer service is above and beyond. We recently celebrated an event and the original carter cancelled last minute Ricco and the Alimentari team pulled together a fabulous platter of sandwiches and pasta salad. The quality of the ingredients and the creative way they are assembled is fantastic! Thank you do much Ricco and crew!!
google avatar

Robert D.

Yelp
Love their sandwiches, specifically the Spicy Sopressata Sandwich. This is a perfect amount of bread ratio and what a great amount of food it is. Each bite has such great texture and taste.
google avatar

Eunice H.

Yelp
Little piece of Italy right here in Madison. This unassuming, modest market has all the essentials you need for Italian cooking. From fresh and dry pasta, wine, cheese, charcuterie, chocolate, ice cream, selection of olive oils and balsamic vinaigrettes, etc... it's everything I need! Most importantly, their take out sandwiches are phenomenal. Their most recent sandwich with the truffle parmigiano spread and brown butter balsamic vinaigrette reminded me of All Antico Vinaio in Florence, Italy. my husband and I have just been chasing that same taste ever since and this sandwich right here was the closest! So good. A favorite is also the spicy soppressata sandwich. Really great spicy kick from the giadianera with the spreadable nduja is jsut perfection. Love it. The prosciutto sandwich is simple but packed with flavor I love the arugula, olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. We come here every other week and everything we've had is just excellent.

Piper L.

Yelp
Every single time I come here I'm compelled to tell every single person I encounter about it I love it I love it I love it I can't get it off my mind I have to call my mom and tell her about it every time. god, the flavor the freshness the love that's poured into it. There's not words for the way I love it, I think maybe I will have to paint you a picture or orchestrate a symphony to tell you how I feel
google avatar

Brynn D.

Yelp
SO good! We were passing through the Madison area and were looking for a sandwich shop. We came across this place and it didn't disappoint! It felt like stepping into a legit bistro in Italy. Don't be deterred by the prices. You get a very big sandwich that you can easily share if wanted. I would highly recommend. The pastrami & swiss sandwich was delicious!!
google avatar

Max B.

Yelp
There's not much I can add reading previous reviews. They have a delightful selection of Italian deli and pantry items keeping our snacks and meals delicious. Try the pasta! And the wonderful sandwiches are generously sized. We have found a couple wines we enjoyed and bought a case or two.
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
The Alimentari is my latest obsession. Between their daily fresh pasta, cheese selections, pantry items, frozen raviolis, and more - it's every Italian food lover's dream! This place feels clean, friendly, affordable, and most importantly - no bullshit (can I swear on here?). Honestly, 10/10 - I love this place and can not recommend it highly enough. Note: I am a vegetarian HOWEVER I have heard nothing but amazing reviews about their deli meats/sandwiches and I'd recommend people try those for a quick lunch or dinner.
google avatar

Laura N.

Yelp
5/5 - my favorite place for a sandwich in Madison! Don't let the higher prices turn you off. The sandwiches are HUGE (seriously huge) and worth it! Their space also doubles as a small artisan market with fresh pasta, gelato, wine and liquor, and more. I typically go back and forth between the Porchetta (with goat cheese, apple, fennel, arugula, and honey) and the Prosciutto (with mozzarella, tomato, arugula, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil). They change half of their sandwiches every so often, but not feeling anything on the menu? The staff is very welcoming and can whip you up something off the menu! Another tip: Call before you arrive to make sure they haven't run out of bread. And final tip: you can't enjoy your sandwich without a bag of their Calabrian chips (found next to the checkout). They're a little addictive, so you might want to grab more than one.
