How to Spend a Food-Filled Off-Season Weekend in Kennebunkport, Maine | Eater Boston

"A friendly, casual seafood-forward spot where you can linger over television-lined booths and a wide selection of local and international taps. Standout dishes include a generously topped baked French onion soup, classic Maine lobster bisque, mussels in a white-wine garlic-butter sauce, and a petite lobster-roll trio that showcases a classic roll, a south-of-the-border variation, and a bisque-style version." - Nathan Tavares

Never disappoints. Plenty of options. Lobster rolls and lobster bisque is great (creamy, flavorful, and chunks of lobster). Love that you can order a petite roll with bisque. No reservations but can waitlist off yelp. Risotto was a little too el dente but such a great value with all the seafood in it and a nice flavor. I like the deviled egg potato salad option for a side for sometime less greasy. Seasonal beers and even a pumpkin chair cider. Great server too.

Went to Alisson’s for dinner after a long day exploring. It was exactly what we needed! My boyfriend and I split the mussels and each got the clam chowder, it was AMAZING! Especially the mussels, some of the best we have ever had. They also had quite the beer, wine and cocktail list. The service was great, our server was kind and appropriately attentive. Atmosphere was decent, I imagine if we got a window seat I would have been blown away but we did not. Nothing wrong but not over the top. I would definitely go back!

Google
Alisson’s is perfect!! I honestly didn’t think I like lobster, but wanted to give it a shot.. This place did not dissapoint! We had the Petite Lobster Roll Trio and Lobster Bisque Poutine, and both were fabulous. Try them if you’re unsure which lobster roll to commit to. Service was great as well. We can’t wait to come back!!

We visited Alisson's during the off-season, and despite many other places being closed, this spot was bustling, which is a great sign! Convenient paid parking is available right behind the building. Alisson's is a true pub—it offers a comfortable, lively atmosphere with traditional pub fare, but with a delicious Maine twist. In its category (distinguishing it from a cafe, standard restaurant, or fine dining), it's absolutely worth a visit. We ordered two of their creative menu items: the Henny Chesney (hot chicken sandwich) and the Happy 'Gil'more. Both were great! The hot sauce on the Henny Chesney was particularly fantastic and made the whole sandwich a hit. The atmosphere was cool, featuring a fun moving beer menu display. The service was excellent; both the host and our waitress were really nice and made the experience very welcoming. If you’re looking for a high-quality, bustling pub with great food in Kennebunkport, Alisson's is a solid choice!

Google
The hostess wasn’t the friendliest of ladies, but don’t let that stop you from visiting! My husband and I ordered the petite lobster trio and the fish and chips, both were very tasty. The location itself is super cute and has such a nice vibe. We also enjoyed a few cocktails the Apple Cider Mimosa, Campfire Mule, and Gettin’ Figgy With It and all three were delicious in their own way. Definitely worth checking out!

Google
A fellow guest at the place we were staying at heard my hubby and I discussing restaurants to try for fried clams and recommended Allison's. I checked out the menu on the website and became intrigued with the Lobster Bisque Poutine. We decided to give Alisson's a try for dinner. It was a Sunday early evening and we had no need to get on the wait-list. I would recommend visiting their website and checking the wait-list time as it does get busy here. We had no wait for a table and all of the staff was friendly. Our waitress was very attentive. We ordered the Lobster Bisque Poutine as an appetizer. My hubby ordered the Gouda Burger, and I ordered the small lobster roll that came with clam chowder, and a side of potato salad instead of fries. My hubby is picky about his burgers and he really enjoyed this one. The lobster poutine was flavorful and cheesy. It had alot of lobster chunks and was served hot. The lobster roll was served on a buttered toasty roll and was a cool lobster with light mayo salad type, not a hot buttered type. The lobster was cooked perfectly. The white chowder was very good. I am not a fan of ordering white chowder at restaurants because there are so many versions and some are awful. This white clam chowder was one of the best. A simple recipe that results in a creamy chowder with lots of clams and small pieces of potato. We were very happy with our dining experience Alisson's and will go again next time we are in the area to actually try the fried clams!

Google
We had a delectable dinner and wonderful service from our waitress who not only gave great recommendations but took the initiativeto change our fries to potato salad since we were ordering the Poutine. We had the Seafood Risotto, Petit Lobster Roll and Chowder, Lobster Bisque Poutine which were generous in portion and very delicious.

Google
Family visited the town for the Christmas lights. Most places close at 5pm. This place was a great find. We were not starving so we got a couple of appetizers before driving back to Boston. I would recommend this place all day.

Linda D.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, good food Service is also good. Gone during prelude and expect to be on the waitlist. But worth it. Right in middle of town!

Karen W.

Yelp
Loved it! Great food and service. Sat at the bar and was great. Great selection of Bourbon.

Danielle B.

Yelp
We love Alisson's! The food, the beer and cider and the staff and service! We are local and eat here all the time!

Yelp
What a great experience!! My girlfriends and I were on a weekend trip together to Peaks Island and rented a car to go exploring. Kennebunkport was super adorable, and we were starving. Alisson's was the perfect spot to stop for lunch! We ordered... probably everything! I ordered the lemon chive lobster roll which was delicious! Our server, Christopher, was super attentive. We were a larger group, and he did a great job keeping everything straight for all of us :) If I'm back in town, I'll definitely go back!

Yelp
We were a party of five and got seated right away, which was great. It was quite hot inside, but the staff was very kind, attentive, and quick with our orders. We had a mix of salads, sandwiches, fried pickles, and lobster rolls for lunch. Everything was fine, nothing fancy, but it hit the spot. The prices were on the higher side, $30 for a Caesar salad with grilled chicken and fries, which felt a little steep for casual lunch. The portion sizes were pretty large, and the food was fresh and well-prepared.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
What a great experience! Our waiter was amazing and the drinks/ food came out quickly. Just have to mention, the lobster poutine is to die for and the best clam chowder in town! 10/10

Yelp
The service was great! Tacos were a very good size! And tasted yummy, just wish they had an option for for fried fish! The combo of lobster roll + soup + side is AMAZING and so worth it. You get the best of both worlds! However my lobster was cold.. I wish I would've known that, the bun was warm though. Not a fan of the pieces of lettuce. I didn't get the Mayo and opted for the butter! Fries were crunchy and a good amount of salt.

Yelp
I visited Alisson's Restaurant during the Maine Day Ventures Foodie Tour. My friend and I were looking forward to dining here since we tried lobster at other locations in Kennebunkport. Our tour specifically covered lobster rolls. Alisson's delivered when it came to the variety of lobster roll choices. They offered three options. These included the traditional lobster roll, the lemon garlic lobster roll, and the lobster chowder roll. We ordered the traditional and lobster chowder rolls. I was so impressed with the serving size of the rolls. We had so much lobster meat as well as a hefty side of fries. Other side options included chips or Cole slaw. The pickles were amazing. I could've totally ate more. Friendly service and a large restaurant with available upstairs seating. Definitely check this place out. Alisson's gets an A+ for its lobster rolls.

Yelp
Ehh. Walked in the door and the hostess didn't even say hi she just stared at us. I said do you have a table for three? She points to the one right by the front door (on a freezing winter day... and I had my 2 year old) and she says "hows that table" I said preferably not directly by the front door. Not a great first impression. I believe the scallops were frozen. Every single fried scallop breading came off when trying to eat them. Steamed lobster was good. Not sure it was 1 1/4 lb as advertised, seemed kind of small to me. Drinks poured light. They let us exit through the kitchen since we parked in the back. Saw a big tub of shrimp defrosting under faucet water, so clearly FROZEN. We were disappointed and won't be back.

Yelp
You don't think 1,000 reviews would lie to you, do you? As someone who lives far from any coast, I am admittedly not refined in my lobster tasting skills. However, after spending a week bouncing along the coast of Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, I think I might be growing a claw of my own. We had a lot of lobster on this trip - as one should - and I can confidently say the lobster rolls at Alisson's were #1. Better even than some at highly rated lobster pounds on the water. We had to wait ~30mins for a table, but I would wait 30 days if I can get these lobster rolls again. Server was friendly and helpful, and the place is spacious with an upstairs dining section as well. Also ordered some potato salad, since y'all reviewers said it was so good. Turns out you didn't lie about that, either. Would recommend. Stop reading, just go eat here.

Yelp
Joined the waitlist a couple hours before wanting to eat (this was during prelude) & got in right at dinner time. We were sat upstairs, although downstairs looked much cozier & would've preferred to sit down there but had a nice view of the christmas tree from upstairs which was nice. Service was just okay although very busy so understandable. Food was great, I got the lobster bisque which was delicious and the baby fried shrimp which was also great and a huge portion so could definitely be a shared meal. Would come back again in the summer!
google avatar

Gretchen B.

Yelp
Still reliably good. I had their winter harvest salad and it was delicious. Friendly service, consistently good food. What more can you ask for?

Yelp
We love walking through Kennebunkport and needed a place for lunch. We checked out some places and Alissons seemed to have the best menu. They had more food choices than other restaurants we looked at. It's clean, comfortable and the waitress we had was very nice and attentive. I wanted the hamburger and it was very good. My daughter had the lobster roll. It was very good too. We started with the clam Chowder. It was made different from others I've had. It was buttery, not creamy. Not sure if I would like it. I was wrong. It was very tasty! So happy I tried it. I am glad I came and will come back when in town again. You cannot go wrong!

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch at Alissons, a classic eatery in downtown Kennebunkport. I had been eyeing this place for a few years now, however whenever I would visit they would be closed for off-season--luckily this time they were open!! The outside has a rustic look, but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how freshly renovated the inside was. They offer upstairs seating as well as downstairs, featuring a bar and many booths. I started with a cup of clam chowder which was super tasty. It was a little thick with a buttery taste. I also ordered the classic Maine Lobster Roll with coleslaw. The roll was buttery and the lobster was packed with mayo, making it super flavorful. The coleslaw was also super tasty and a good portion. On the side it came with dill pickles which I really enjoyed. Overall it was a great place for lunch after checking out all the local shops!
google avatar

Jess R.

Yelp
Loved the lobster poutine and the blueberry pie. We didn't get entrees but stopped here for a bite and to watch football and thought everything was amazing!! Our server was friendly and attentive!

Yelp
We were in KPT off season and many places are closed, but Alisson's was open and ready to serve us lunch. We were with some friends who follow a gluten free diet, and this restaurant has a GF menu specifically for those with that need. The restaurant has been around for a long time, and the hostess greeted us with a big smile and chose a window table upstairs for us. Nice view of Dock Square. We found service to be very friendly and efficient. I had a crab grilled cheese sandwich which was delicious. Generous portion of crab with cheese on a perfectly grilled sandwich. I chose the fries as a side, and I know I am very fussy about fries, and sadly these were weak. They were not fresh out of the fryer unfortunately and a bit soggy and limp. I also asked for a side of the deviled egg potato salad, which seemed to have lots of potential. I think it would have been a hit with me if the potatoes had been cooked just a tad longer for a softer bite. Everybody else at the table really enjoyed their choices. Nice drink menu, and one of the largest selctions of Bourbon I've ever seen! Overall a very nice and enjoyable lunch

Yelp
We had a delightful dining experience at Alisson's last week. This is an appealing restaurant, good-sized with an attractive bar area and plenty of comfy seating. The service is good, and the menu items are pretty reasonably priced especially when compared to some neighboring establishments. We had a very tasty, thick lobster bisque, the best we had during our trip to Maine, along with a large and delicious Southwest Salad with grilled chicken and a Caesar Salad. Add in a slightly spicy Bloody Mary and you've got a first-rate lunch. Our server Kelly was very efficient and friendly. Prices? The bowl of bisque was #22, the salads $20 and $22. We felt all were worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
Monday night @ 5:30 & the place is slamming. 60 minute wait to sit down. They're reservation system is tied into Yelp- very cool. My wife decided on a burger with Cheddar cheese & a huge side of potato salad. I decided on the petite lobster roll, french fries & a cup of awesome clam chowder. No room for dessert the portions are very generous.
google avatar

Noah F.

Yelp
Went here the other weekend looking for a quick dinner and found Allison's. The place is spacious and right by the water. Menu is fairly large and the prices are relatively fair for the quality of lobster. Service was great and the food came out fast. We got the large lobster roll and the lobster roll flight. The lobster rolls are large and for the price it's a great deal. I would highly recommend the flight. For the price you get a ton of lobster as the small rolls still aren't that small. My favorite one on the flight was the lobster bisque lobster roll! It's was delicious and the bisque on top adds so much flavor and creaminess. If you're in the area and looking for good priced Maine lobster definitely check this place out!
google avatar

Natalie A.

Yelp
Lemon chive lobster roll with coleslaw suberb! The staff was also very nice and knowledgeable to the menu of both food and drinks. Christopher was our server super nice and even recommended some breweries to check out while we are in town. We left full and happy.
google avatar

Olga G.

Yelp
Amazing lobster rolls at Alison's and even better service. The Caesar salad was very large, and perfectly seasoned. Excellent restaurant and I'd be back.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Everything we had was delicious. The restaurant staff were courteous and the place has a warm and comfortable vibe. It is conveniently located right on the main stretch of road. My MIL had the lobster bisque and really enjoyed it (not pictured here).

Jim K.

Yelp
Everything! A very busy night of the tree lighting, service was excellent, the food was excellent and the ambiance was Christmas!

Mary S.

Yelp
We've always enjoyed Alisson's for its family-friendly atmosphere, which makes today's experience especially disappointing. When we arrived with our toddler, we were turned away by the hostess despite there being several open tables and the restaurant not appearing crowded. No clear explanation was given but one thing was clear, she did not want us there. We were surprised and discouraged, as this has long been a place we've felt comfortable bringing our family. I hope this feedback helps improve the experience for other families in the future.
google avatar

Debbie M.

Yelp
Went here on 8/27/2025 We were apart to 10 guests. Waitress was wonderful. I booked a restaurant online and had requested a room on the ground floor when we arrived we waited five minutes and we were accommodated without any issues. The waitress is very attentive got our drinks sorted and appetizers. Dinner was served on time and delicious. For Husband, I had the white chocolate cake with strawberry filling, said it was delicious and my granddaughter had vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. It made her day. I definitely would recommend reservations but even with reservations we didn't wait for 10 minutes and we were seated. Definite will be back here in the near future.
google avatar

Yvonne H.

Yelp
What a lovely lunch we had here! We got lucky and didn't have to wait. Our party of two was seated upstairs promptly and our waitress was great! The stairs are a bit steep coming back down, but there's a bathroom upstairs as well, so you won't have to navigate them but once. The place was light and airy and the noise level was relatively low, so we could still have a conversation. My friend's burger and fries were really good. The deviled egg potato salad was delightful! I had the trio of petite lobster rolls and they were great! I think the lemon one was my favorite. The lobster bisque topped one was a bit tricky to eat, but really good as well. THis dish does not come with a side for $39.99. The white sangria was so refreshing and tasty!! Definitely would go back!
google avatar

Boo S.

Yelp
Great service with large menu selection and good food. I was concerned that Alison's would be extra touristy, but was pleasantly surprised with our meal. Got lobster rolls but with butter- which I can't recommend here. Others got lobster roll trio- delicious and much better than plain with butter, and fried haddock which was enjoyed. Waiter was incredibly knowledgeable about food and beer and very attentive.

Margaret D.

Yelp
Service was good, food was so disappointing. Had the clam strips, I think they were frozen they were horribly chewy. Husband had the fish, it was more like fish bites. French fries were frozen and not well done. Will not recommend or return
google avatar

Jim D.

Yelp
The food and staff were wonderful (server Jillian was sooo friendly). The bisque poutine was amazing! We definitely recommend it as a starter. For the entrees we shared a Petite Lobster roll Trio and the Seafood Risotto. As good as the lobster roll trio was, the Seafood Risotto blew it out of the water. Four or five types of seafood covering tasty risotto with Asiago sauce.
google avatar

Joy Q.

Yelp
This restaurant has plenty of seating. Environment is nice too. They are clean and bright. They also have beer on tap. The item that I recommended the most is the lobster bisque lobster roll! Very innovative and the flavor was hearty and satisfying However, the other two lobster rolls that came together in the lobster roll trio was disappointing - the texture of the meat was not tender/the lobster was not the freshest. It's easy to find lobster roast better than the ones here in a beach town like this. The muscles were fresh and had a well balanced flavor. However, the muscles contain quite an amount of sand in it. Maybe this is out of the control of the restaurant - but what a pity to the customers Service was friendly and attentive .
google avatar

Olivia H.

Yelp
Atmosphere was ok, very similar to a Sunday dinner at home. As a 30 year old, drinks were not great. Stick to the appetizers! Fish and chips were very breaded. I'm sure other things would be good!
google avatar

Joe L.

Yelp
A great lunch stop after a morning of playing pickleball in Biddeford. Found parking on the street right in front of the restaurant and our group of six were quickly seated upstairs. Drink orders were taken quickly followed by lobster bisque and clam chowder starters. All delicious! Mains ordered were: steamed mussels, fred clam strips, crabby lee miller (crab melt) and two orders of A Fish Called Wanda (haddock). Wow, all the food was excellent matched with quick attentive service. Kudos to the kitchen and wait stuff.
google avatar

Stacey C.

Yelp
We had an awesome lunch at Alison's yesterday. The lobster bisque was one of the best I've ever had and the Happy Gil'more sandwich was insanely good! Great drinks and great service too! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jackie L.

Yelp
Alisson's is a fantastic spot with what I consider to be the best lobster roll in the area. It's loaded with fresh lobster and prepared perfectly. I've eaten countless lobster rolls in my life and I've had this one at Alisson's many times before writing this review - it truly never disappoints! It easily ranks at the very top of my list. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
One of my favorite lobster rolls ever!! The clam chowder is also delicious- very thick and creamy. Staff is always friendly with quick service. Highly recommend Alissons if you're in the area.
google avatar

Tina M.

Yelp
Fresh, delicious and beautiful presentation. Bar area is rather noisy but a good option rather than waiting 40 minutes. Pasta primavera was excellent choice Ny strip served with only half of potato, weird
google avatar

Will D.

Yelp
Man what a disappointment. Not because the food wasn't good -- it was -- but because of a few glaring issues we had. We were seated upstairs with the other families with kids. I have no idea what the vibe of the main restaurant is but the upstairs feels like a cafeteria. Not great. We opted for a couple soft drinks to start. The Diet Coke tasted watered down and a little off. We had an app to start - the buffalo chicken dip was tasty and filling. For dinner we ordered the lobster trio, which was great at first. Then I bit down into what turned out to be a sharp triangle of lobster shell about the size of a penny. I pointed it out to our server and was met with, "It's part of the process, it happens sometimes. Well not that often. I'll tell the kitchen. Sorry." It felt handwavey for something that could've easily sliced open my mouth, especially when you pay nearly $40 for your entree. It unfortunately turned me off to the entire experience.
google avatar

Heena S.

Yelp
Not sure on the star ratings on this place. Our clam chowder and lobster bisque were mediocre at best. The lobster roll was decent. The fries were great. The place is huge. And our server was good. But with all other options in Kennebunkport not sure we would be back.
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
While on vacation in Maine, we drove down from Portland to take a history tour of Kennebunkport and needed a place to eat lunch first. We stopped in Alisson's because we had read about it, and it was right across from our tour's starting point. We walked in around noon and were seating upstairs in the front window. The room was a basic as can be, but what a great spot to watch the street below! Our server, Paula, was so friendly and buzzed around her tables with the ease of a seasoned server. She was great. We ordered the Mussels and the Fig and Brie sandwich with chicken. We were in Maine for 8 nights and had mussels 3 times and these, at this unassuming restaurant in Kennebunkport, were the best of the trip! The chicken on the sandwich was cooked perfectly and the flavors were great. The fries were good as well. This is a great spot to eat lunch in Kennebunkport.
google avatar

Hugh M.

Yelp
Great food, great people, great location in downtown KPT. Very interesting and complex drinks done by their talented mixologist. Best fried pickles ever...amazing clam chowder...love the lobster bisque version of the lobster roll!
google avatar

Kristina B.

Yelp
Super! Location is prime for a lunch spot when visiting kennebunkport! One draw back is no patio seating. Service was fast and friendly! Seating is upstairs and downstairs. Beautiful views of downtown upstairs! Lots of windows. The food was well cooked and tasty! The hot honey wings were top tier! The portions and generous and good for sharing. Lobster was excellent but pricey. The lobster roll was perfect size with the chowder. Would go back!
google avatar

Anne P.

Yelp
We both ordered the halibut sandwich broiled. It needed some charring on it and my husband didn't finish his. He thought it was bland. I liked mine - ate the whole thing! The waiter did offer to bring something else for my spouse. Cute place, lots of options and fun vibe. 4 stars because of the lack of char/browning on the fish
google avatar

Barbara B.

Yelp
The fish and chips dinner was a hit for three of our guests. The coating was crunchy and the fish was fresh. I didn't think it had much flavor but was assured that when dipped in tartar sauce they were great. The southwest salad looked underwhelming compared to others I have had but the spicy ranch helped kick up the taste. It was busy for a Monday but we are preseason so there was no wait.
google avatar

Alexandra R.

Yelp
Stopped here for our last lobster roll before flying home. It was quick service even though it was a typical sit down restaurant. The portions were decent even for the chowder and petite lobster roll selection. My one complaint is you can't get a hot buttered lobster roll, but you can get hot butter and a hot bun with cold lobster meat.
google avatar

Dennis S.

Yelp
Great casual spot for drinks and dinner in Dock Square. It's been around forever and is nicely worn in and comfortable; feels like an old friend the first time you enter. We sat upstairs and it was pleasant and roomy. Great long list of beers on tap. Friendly service. I went for the Fish Called Wanda broiled haddock sandwich with slaw. Not exactly pick up friendly, I finished it knife and fork, but still a good lighter choice. Also made me realize that I'd had a remarkable number of really good slaw sides in Kennebunkport. Must be a local specialty to cozy up with all the fabulous lobster rolls in town.
google avatar

Kellie B.

Yelp
I would and did drive a distance to dine here. Lobster Bisque is the best I've ever had and that's saying something. Fried scallops are delicious and the largest I've seen in the last several years. Good, friendly service, clean dining room, restrooms and a nice feel to the place. I understand why they have made it 50+ years.
google avatar

Sherry H.

Yelp
Food and service is always excellent and the history that goes along with Allison's is very special

Mary F.

Yelp
Food was delicious. The blueberry pie was by far the best I've ever eaten. The triple lobster roll was a bit disappointing.

Taals B.

Yelp
Best in town. Never disappoints. Can't wait for them to reopen with new renovations They were our saviors during Covid. Food is great too. Love the beer collection
