What to Taste Beyond Bouillabaisse in Modern Marseille

"A Mediterranean, market-driven restaurant founded by a Corsican and an Italian that alternates between seafood-forward plates — such as grilled octopus seasoned with fennel, black garlic, olives, saffron, and candied lemon — and terrestrial dishes like Iberian pork with white beans, pistachios, and arugula." - Erik Trinidad

"This little "olive grove" (alivetuin Corsican) is an oasis for foodies in the Saint Victor neighbourhood, abutting the Colline de la Garde. The restaurant is split into a dining area with a polished concrete floor and a mezzanine, where diners tuck into the chef's Mediterranean cuisine: think grilled octopus, sweet potato purée, corn and pepper sauce. A "Market Menu" on the board at lunchtime and a surprise set menu in the evening." - Michelin Inspector

A wonderful “blind” tasting experience where you pick either 3 or 5 courses and let the chef do his magic! We are real foodies and loved the experience. A nice little touch: you can either have the dish explained or eat it and guess what was in it! My chef partner loved this! Beautiful food, amazing ingredients. Highly recommend. Small intimate restaurant.

The food is amazing! Not only good quality but also Full of innovation and fusion. Rich and balanced flavours! The staff is friendly and efficient but I feel a bit of lacking warmth. the atmosphere is casual and relaxing more like a bistro.

It was a very enjoyable experience. First time I had a blind menu. We decided not knowing in advance what were the dishes and tried to guess the ingredients used, before being told in the end what we had. The dishes were exquisite, with great ingredients and skills. The service was great.

Skeptical at first, we ended up genuinely impressed—what Tim and Marie have created is a true culinary gem. With Marie’s charm and a kitchen full of fresh, bold flavors, it was an unexpected delight. Sadly, we’re 800 km away—otherwise, we’d be regulars. A real hidden treasure.

Awesome little restaurant tucked away in the back streets of Marseille. We chose the 5 course “blind” menu. So placed our trust in the chefs choices which was well placed! Have a look at the pics which mostly have a description of our guesses so not always right! Delicious all the same ..

What makes an outstanding cuisine? Not necessarily the Michelin star. Certainly not the price of the meal. In addition to fresh local ingredients, I always look for interesting, creative taste combinations. Where a meal is not a series of different dishes, but where the combination of dishes enhances each other. Where the wine list complements the food and the owner is knowledgeable about wine. (We had a super Corsican white wine!) In short where you have a memorable experience. Alivetu, a small ‘family’ restaurant has it all. The service and the atmosphere are wonderful. It was one of the best food experiences of the year so far, anywhere. And for a very affordable price. Whenever we are in Marseille again, we will come back to Alivetu.

Fantastic food and experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the blind menu. It is Michelin quality. Service is very kind and welcoming. All that said, portions of the two mains (when opting for the full menu) should be larger, even doubled. But even with this, the whole experience was such a joy. I would come again to try their lunch!

We chose the short "blind menu", but would recommend the longer menu. Each dish was inventive and delicious. Great shot for foodies, and we had a very good rose wine from Corsica.
