I've eaten at Aljon's for many years, 15 or so years ago I used to go to the Princeton Junction store for lunch and always had a good experience. I wish I had the same at Plainsboro. I've left very few reviews in my day, but sometimes I just have to speak up. In the past few years I've ordered from Plainsboro; not as frequently lately. Mostly this is due to the fact that I gave up most animal products. and junk food for whole, more natural/less processed foods. But, a few times a year I get nuts and order "regular" food. I ordered again recently and remembered the other reasons this was not a good choice. Both are tied to the side dishes. The onion rings are usually overcooked. Very dark, and very oily. Overheated or overused oil, perhaps? Somehow the batter on the inside is mushy. They don't even taste like onion. Now, I hold every onion ring to the Cheeburger Cheeburger standard, and while most don't come close, these are just not right at all anymore. Wasn't always that way, but the past 2 years or so...just...no.
This store also became consistent in sending me cheese fries without the cheese, which would be alright if they were the same price. They always include the order slip, and it matches my email confirmation, so I know I ordered cheese. I always let it slide, but this time around I called to ask for my card to be credited, and was rejected. They did offer to give me a credit on my next order...but why would I order again when it was done wrong this time (again)? And that credit is apparently tied to my phone number, from which I have to call for that next order. If I order online apparently that precludes me from being made whole. I always order online, and I am not inclined to change my process because they can't plop some cheese on my fries. I'm old enough to remember the times when these situations were handled, rather than postponed, and I still believe in principles. I realize if I had called the very first time and found this out earlier, I could have saved more money, but it didn't seem worth the time to make the call until this last straw. The grocery store gyps me too sometimes, but they refund me right away.
All in all the people and service have been good. The delivery folks are always friendly. I've appreciated their service over the years, and even put up with being charged the 3% credit card transaction fee most other merchants pay themselves, but I can't continue to pay Aljon's any longer.a
